In an interview with Sky News, the American actress condemned what she called the failure of the international community to intervene effectively in recent crises in the Middle East and Nigeria.

Asked by Sky News presenter Anna Jones if Britain and other countries should take in more refugees, Jolie replied: “Yes.”
But she added that the international community’s current approach to such a crisis is “broken”.

Her call for action has been welcomed by The Refugee Council – a UK charity that works with refugees.

Jolie lamented what she called the increasing inability of the international community to solve crises like the recent kidnapping of 200 Nigerian schoolgirls by extremist group Boko Haram.
However, she admitted she could offer no immediate solution herself.
“I do lie awake at night like most people wondering… I cannot get my head around all of the horrors in the world today,” she said.
Are you laying awake at night troubled by the world? It seems clear to me…..
…. for the Syrian civil war—let them fight it out themselves and then the Syrians who ran for cover should return. Then there is only one solution for Islamic terrorist groups like Boko Haram, wipe them out swiftly and completely, but no African or Western country has the testicular fortitude to do it.
A Somali described as a “person-of-interest” to the FBI is being held in Manitoba after he and another man walked across the border from Minnesota and were captured by RCMP officers.
Ahmed Abdi Ismail and his travelling companion got 15 kilometres inland before they were picked up by members of the RCMP Integrated Border Enforcement Team on March 20.
Three days later, FBI agents flew to Winnipeg to interview Mr. Ismail, who is described in court documents only as “the subject of an FBI investigation for matters of security.”
Although he has been detained almost two months now, the reasons for the FBI probe remain a mystery. “All we know is that the FBI is interested in him and has asked for him to be held,” Anthony Navaneelan, his Toronto lawyer, said Wednesday.
The Canada Border Services Agency is conducting its own investigation into whether he should be deported under a section of the immigration law that applies to those engaged in terrorism, espionage and subversion.
Mr. Ismail has claimed refugee status in Canada. [Wants protection from America!—ed]
Yesterday we had a report on Canada’s first Somali terror trial.
For new readers, we have a lot of posts over the years about problems with Somali refugees in “welcoming” Canada.
Just one more reason to slow the flow of so-called asylum seekers into Australia. Are they there for a better life, or just to rest and propagate before heading off to some Muslim war zone?
From the Sydney Daily Telegraph (attempting to not sound Islamophobic in the opening paragraph):
SUCCESSIVE waves of immigrants to Australia largely abandoned disputes in their homelands after reaching our shores. Indeed, many immigrants from Europe, Asia and elsewhere specifically came to Australia so that they could escape violence and conflict.
Unfortunately, this inclination to leave troubles behind is not universal. Australia’s Muslim community features a small but troubling minority who actively seek out opportunities to take up arms. It is estimated that more than 100 Australian Muslims, many from NSW, have so far travelled to Syria and joined in the civil war.
Another reminder of local links to the Syrian war came on the weekend with the arrest of a young woman at Sydney International Airport. The 29-year-old, who allegedly was caught attempting to ferry cash and equipment to her husband in Syria, was charged with supporting incursions into a foreign state with the intention of engaging in hostile activities.
These developments are deeply worrying on a number of levels. It is bad enough that Australian citizens are joining, in relatively large numbers, a foreign conflict. Worse still is that they are becoming members of radical Islamic groups, whose extreme doctrines of hatred and intolerance therefore gain a greater hold within Australia’s Muslim community.
They will be baaacck! with their newly-acquired jihadist skills!
There is a much more detailed story here at News.com.auwhich is also where the photo and protest report was found.
See our Australia categoryfor all of our posts especially recent ones where the Abbott government has taken serious steps to stem the tide of illegal boat people.
This is a story from last week, so you may have seen it elsewhere, but even late it is worth posting because it contains a few bits of useful information. (My apologies to the reader who sent this—I’ve lost track of who it was!)
Before he sentences her for perjury, which carries a maximum sentence of 5 years in the slammer, Chief District Judge Michael Davis wants to know if she would likely be deported upon her release from prison.
A woman who admitted she lied for the terrorist group al-Shabaab will have to wait until April to learn her punishment.
Saynab Abdirashid Hussein, a former Minneapolis woman studying nursing in Tennessee, was to be sentenced Tuesday in federal court on a count of perjury. But midway through the hearing, Chief U.S. District Judge Michael Davis put off handing down a sentence.
The reason: He wants her lawyers and prosecutors to provide legal briefs explaining whether they think the conviction and sentence will result in her deportation.
Her new sentencing date is April 29.
Prosecutors are seeking a minimum sentence of two years, anything over one year could get her deported says expert:
Hussein was born in Somalia and was a year old when her parents fled the country. They spent nine years in a Kenyan refugee camp before they were allowed entry into the U.S.
After the hearing, prosecutors didn’t say what their position would be regarding deportation, and defense attorneys declined comment. Neither would comment on what her immigration status is, but court documents suggest she is a lawful permanent resident.
Ruslan Bocancea, a Minneapolis lawyer specializing in immigration law, said that because Hussein pleaded guilty to an aggravated felony involving honesty — in which prosecutors are seeking a sentence of at least two years — the woman could be deported.
“When there’s an element of fraud involved, like lying, Immigration is not forgiving at all,” Bocancea said, referring to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. “Once your sentence is one year or higher, the government can deport you, assuming you are a permanent resident.”
One way to keep from being deported is to marry a US citizen!
A permanent resident facing deportation can ask to stay, and among the reasons they can cite is that they are married to a U.S. citizen, Bocancea said. Hussein got married this month, but neither side said whether the groom, who was in court, is a citizen.

Hussein was the 19th person, and only female, charged in “Operation Rhino,” the FBI’s investigation into al-Shabaab’s alleged recruitment of fighters from the Twin Cities, home to this country’s largest Somali population.
Israeli intelligence agency Mossad will help Bulgaria with the Syrian refugees, it became clear from the words of Interior Minister Tsvetlin Jovchev in a TV program on Nova TV, Standart daily reports.
The Deputy Prime Minister was on a week-long visit to Israel a few days ago and confirmed that the Middle Eastern country will help Bulgaria in securing the refugee situation, due to Israel’s experience in the area.
Jovchev also noted that he hopes that the forecast of 200,000 immigrants in Bulgaria will not prove true. “We have over 10,000 illegal aliens now. Part of them – more than 1,000 – have not sought refuge and will have to be expelled out of the country. About 8,000 of them declared that they seek protection. Around 3,000 of the applicants will not receive such because they have no reason to want it “explained Jovchev.
Keeping the jihadists out of Europe!
Jovchev confirmed the information that there are jihadists in Syria, who aim to return to Europe – perhaps through Bulgaria. However, he assured that the government uses all its resources to keep the terrorists out of the country.
