Biden is on Track to Admit Fewer Refugees Than Trump

“We cannot and we must not fall victims to politics of fear and hatred that drives the far-right…..[Biden] “must follow through on his promise.”

(Rep. Ilhan Omar)

In addition to abysmally low numbers, Biden hasn’t re-started the flow of refugees from Muslim countries, the flow Trump halted for a handful of countries that hate us.

Syrians, Somalis, Iraqis are waiting and frustrated, but not nearly as frustrated as the refugee contractors*** and their friends in Congress like Minnesota Somali Rep. Ilhan Omar.

As I have said before, the mystery for me is this:

How do the contractors who have been paid since at least 1980 to place refugees in your towns and cities and who have had a pipeline to the US State Department via their swamp dwelling bureaucrats (even as Trump was in the White House) not know what is going on?

Apparently they don’t and the guess is that Biden doesn’t want to look too pro-immigration as the southern border is being overrun.

Well, duh!

It is too late for that as most of America sees Biden as the most open borders President ever!

And, besides the average American voter does not even fully understand the difference between fake asylum seekers (illegal aliens!) at the southern border and the Refugee Admissions Program.

It is ludicrous to think that voters are sitting around saying, gee it’s good of Biden to stop the refugee flow right now so let’s give him some brownie points because he is slowing, by a tiny bit, the Great Replacement!

Yesterday the Washington Post got in on the guessing game.

Biden’s delay on refugees baffles and frustrates allies

Senator Ted Kennedy created the present refugee and asylum system with the help of Joe Biden in 1979. Jimmy Carter signed the Refugee Act into law in 1980. A question I have asked for over a decade is this: Why has Biden’s Delaware resettled only a handful of refugees since then? Maybe Joe doesn’t like foreigners in HIS neighborhood!

President Biden sent a stark message in February to foreigners fleeing oppression, persecution and danger: The United States stands ready to help them once again. He pledged an eightfold-plus increase in the annual cap on refugees set during the Trump administration, saying he would aim for a “down payment” on that promise “as soon as possible.”

More than two months later, Biden has not made good on his vow. He has yet to sign a directive that would lift the cap for the next fiscal year or enact more-immediate changes to the Trump limits.

His advisers have provided little public clarity on why, angering many human rights advocates who say the delay is inflicting growing harm on refugees desperate to take flight to the United States.

[….]

People close to the White House’s decision-making attribute the delay to several factors. Some point to the administration’s ongoing struggles to contain a massive increase in migrants arriving at the southern border, saying they detect political concerns from the White House about expanding the refugee program at a moment when there is increasing pressure on Biden to be tougher on immigration and border security.

Jenny Yang of World Relief

“What’s missing is the political will of the president,” said Jenny Yang, vice president for advocacy and policy at World Relief, one of a handful of resettlement agencies working with the government.

The result, Yang said, is that “the program is effectively operating as if President Trump were still in office.”

[….]

Before becoming a highly paid refugee contractor CEO,  Vignarajah worked for Michelle in the White House.

“Unfortunately, I think it shows that President Trump may have been effective in conflating refugee resettlements and the asylum program,” said Krish O’Mara Vignarajah, president and CEO of Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, another resettlement agency working with the government.

She said there “is no substantive reason” why Trump’s directive should remain in place, given that changing it is “not a herculean task” for Biden.

I don’t know why Lutheran CEO Vignarajah is complaining as her organization is raking in millions of your tax dollars to take ‘care’ of the Unaccompanied Alien (mostly teens) Children invading the border.

Biden cautious on immigration!

Biden’s careful posture underscores the broader caution with which he and his advisers are approaching immigration.

Keenly aware of how the issue has sparked impassioned divisions in recent years, Biden, who ran as a unifier, did not emphasize it as a candidate. As president, he and his aides have treaded lightly, wary of inflaming a polarizing debate that could threaten to his appeal to a broad swath of voters.

He didn’t emphasize it as a candidate because controlling immigration appeals to most Americans and plays in Trump’s favor!

Some of the most fervent concern has come from Democrats in the House. Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.), who lived in a refugee camp in Kenya as a child after her family fled a civil war in Somalia, warned in a recent statement that “We cannot and we must not fall victims to politics of fear and hatred that drives the far-right.”

Biden, she said, “must follow through on his promise.”

[….]

Biden announced that he would raise the annual cap on refugee admission to 125,000 for the first full fiscal year of his administration, which begins in October. He informed Congress that his target for the current fiscal year was 62,500.

But he never signed a new presidential determination, a decision that has left Trump’s directive in place. Now, Biden is on pace to accept the fewest refugees this year of any modern president, according to a report the International Rescue Committee released last week. The Biden administration has admitted only 2,050 refugees at the halfway point of this fiscal year, according to the nonprofit organization’s report.

Data from the Refugee Processing Center. You can readily see that if Biden follows through on what he said, his numbers would eclipse anything George Bush or Barack Obama ever did.

Six months into the fiscal year and only 2,050 refugees have been admitted. They have to do some real hustling if they want to beat Trump’s lowest year of 11,814.

The Washington Post continues….

The report says Biden’s inaction means “tens of thousands of already-cleared refugees remain barred from resettlement and over 700 resettlement flights have been cancelled.”

Absent a reversal of Trump-era restrictions, most refugees from civil war-ravaged Syria, who have the highest resettlement needs according to the report, do not have a chance of coming to the U.S.

Refugees from other Muslim countries are also being hit hard by current rules, according to the report

[….]

Some White House allies find the president’s delay perplexing because the refugee program has attracted bipartisan support in recent years. Even some of the Republicans who have been critical of Biden’s handling of the border have called for raising the refugee cap to expand the legal pathways for immigrants to come to the United States.

Republican Senator Portman:  Increase the refugee cap!  Any Republican wanting to increase the cap is making the Chamber of Commerce types happy!

“The refugee program is much more of an orderly and legal process that is entirely distinct” from the situation at the border, said Sen. Rob Portman (R-Ohio). “I would increase the refugees cap from where it was in the Trump years, and I would make the asylum system work as it should.”

There is much more.

Two Major Refugee Contractors Receive Millions to Move Illegal Aliens from the Border to Interior US

Because this story is so important, I’m posting it instead of a weekly round-up of refugee news.

And, besides, the US Refugee Admissions Program has been stalled for some mysterious reason by the Biden gang so there isn’t a lot new since last week.

I can only guess the hold-up is because they have created such a crisis at our wide open border with their fake refugee invasion that they aren’t beginning the large movement they promised the Left of Africans, Asians and Middle Easterners into the country fearing more anger from their 80 million voters! (Only 24% of all Americans support Biden border policies.)

That isn’t making the nine contractors***, who are paid by you and me to place them, happy.

However, two of the nine contractors are busy collecting millions to ostensibly take care of the women and kids, including some “not so nice women,” arriving at the border in historically high numbers.

Those two are the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service.

Sister Norma Pimentel, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, and Cardinal Blase J. Cupich of Chicago greet asylum seekers at the Humanitarian Respite Center at Sacred Heart Church in McAllen, Texas, in 2017, the location of the viral video from Infowars last week.

First, to get a feel for the magnitude of the crisis, see the New York Times story headlined:

Young Migrants Crowd Shelters, Posing Test for Biden

The administration is under intensifying pressure to expand its capacity to care for as many as 35,000 unaccompanied minors, part of a wave of people crossing the border.

More than 20,000 children and teenagers are in the custody of a government system that is already at “103 percent of capacity,” including nearly 17,000 in shelters run by the health department, according to briefing materials from Operation Artemis, a response to the border crisis led by the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Government projections obtained by The New York Times show there could be more than 35,000 migrant children to be cared for by June — a prospect that one former senior health and human services official called “terrifying.”

The NYT story does not mention the role Catholic agencies are playing, but does mention Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland.  Of course you are led to believe that they are doing their work of moving migrants to the interior US out of the goodness of their Christian hearts.

Viral Video

Now,, see the controversial film in front of a Catholic agency in McAllen, Texas from Infowars this week if you aren’t one of the million or so who have already seen it.

Sister Norma Pimental was chosen by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in America for 2020. https://time.com/collection/100-most-influential-people-2020/5888284/sister-norma-pimentel/

Needless to say, Catholic Charities has blasted Jones’ video saying at Catholic World Report:

Catholic Charities Rio Grande Valley on Thursday said a viral video of their work with migrant children on the U.S.-Mexico border is “inaccurate and unauthorized.”

We have been doing our humanitarian work for years, said Pimental director of Catholic Charities Rio Grande Valley.

One of those on the scene for the confrontation in front of McAllen’s Catholic Charities facility is Tim Enlow and it is worth an hour of your time to see and hear him explain to patriot interviewer Delora O’Brien what exactly went down that day.

One of the most shocking revelations in the interview is that Enlow describes the arrival at the scene of a white man identifying himself as wealthy and from Philadelphia who claims he was told by a nun! that he could come down to McAllen and pick up a couple of van loads of single women he could care for and provide work for!

Watch it before Youtube removes it!  Hat tip: Robin.

O’Brien and Enlow charge that the government, our US government, is sponsoring child smuggling!

Your tax dollars at work!

They are more right than they know since both Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) and the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) are raking in millions from the US Treasury to ‘care for’ Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC).

If you are a long-time reader of RRW, this news is not new!

I bet for others, you had no idea that YOUR TAX DOLLARS were paying these ‘religious’ charities for their work!

Data for the Bishops from USA Spending where all federal grants and contracts are catalogued.

Here we learn that the USCCB has pulled in $17.9 million in just the last 12 months for their UAC ‘care.’

The UACs represent the biggest chunk of the Bishops payola right now.

Below you can see a year-to-year comparison.

They have lost some serious money since Obama, but they are picking up steam again.  See for FY21, which we are in right now, they anticipate more millions this fiscal year as represented by the yellow line.

The Lutherans have got the Catholics beat!

Again data from USA Spending.

LIRS doesn’t need to be bringing in refugees from around the world, they are doing very well taking care of the illegal alien children. The $55 million is their take (of your money) for the children! over the last twelve months.

By the way, LIRS is over 90% taxpayer funded. There is no passing the plate at Sunday services for them!

Longtime readers know that LIRS was mired in controversy a few years ago, but notice how much the Trump Administration was shelling out to them.  More than any Obama year!  Pity that Trump never put anyone into key positions who knew where the bodies were buried.

Refugee News Round-up: Fourth Week of March 2021

The mystery deepens and frustrations grow as Biden still has not signed the all important Determination to begin the admission of the 62,500 FY2021 refugees his State Department consulted Congress about more than month ago.

As I reported a couple of weeks ago, refugees were ready to fly into America from throughout Africa, Asia and the Middle East when we learned that plane tickets were canceled because Biden had yet to sign a document that would begin this branch of the invasion.

Across Africa and the Middle East, Refugee Plane Tickets to America Canceled

There are only 6 months left in this fiscal year, so getting 62,500 resettled throughout the country would be a major undertaking as it represents a number not seen in decades.

Here The Hill on Thursday published an opinion piece by Mary Elizabeth Margolis  from a new political lobbying group that promotes refugee resettlement and the candidates who push for changing America by changing the people.

Voice for Refuge Action Fund got its start just in time to make this big endorsement last year:

This is their team and they endorse candidates at all levels claiming that they are the first legally approved group to do so. https://www.voiceforrefuge.org/endorsements/

Why is Biden stalling refugee resettlement?

There are fewer refugees being resettled to safety in the U.S. right now than there were during the last year of the Trump administration. Read that again.

Mary Elizabeth Margolis

For refugee protection advocates, hopes for a Biden administration have been high.

From the beginning of his campaign, President Biden promised he would quickly restore American leadership by rebuilding the historically bipartisan life-saving refugee resettlement program — which was decimated under the Trump administration. It’s the reason we at Voice for Refuge, the only refugee focused 501(c)4, heartily endorsed President Biden.

To his credit, after inauguration President Biden quickly signaled his intent to follow through on his commitment to support refugee resettlement. Through executive action, he rescinded the previous administration’s wrongful refugee bans and laid the foundation to strengthen refugee protections and increase refugee admissions.

President Biden also announced his plan to increase the refugee admissions goal, known as the presidential determination, for the remainder of this fiscal year to 62,500 — from the historic low of 15,000 — and then to 125,000 for Fiscal Year 2022. This change would also end the Trump-era guidelines harmfully restricting which refugees could be resettled, which had made even meeting the tiny existing goal nearly impossible. The harm caused by the overly restrictive refugee categories cannot be overstated.

As the administration met its legal obligations to consult Congress on the revised refugee admissions goal, it seemed as if it would only be a matter of days before families would be reunited and American communities would be able to start welcoming more refugees home. Flights were booked, apartments were prepared, and then nothing.

[….]

President Biden has not been forthright with why this delay is happening.

LOL! Not being “forthright!” Just imagine the language they would be using if this was Trump!

More here.  We also learned that Biden has not chosen an Assistant Secretary of State for PRM to oversee the program.

RCUSA gets up a letter….

Maryland US Senators Van Hollen and Cardin are making themselves the face of the refugee invasion caucus in the US Senate. https://www.cnn.com/2021/03/24/politics/democrats-biden-refugee-response/index.html

The Refugee Council USA is the long-standing consortium of groups that lobbies for refugees and includes the nine federal resettlement contractors*** and a whole host of open borders groups.

One of their favorite activities is to gin-up letters and here on Wednesday they did just that.

Over 200 groups sent Biden a letter demanding he get moving on opening up the flow from around the world, including from those terror producing countries that Trump had restricted.

We elected you so get moving buddy!

PRESS RELEASE: More than 200 local, state, and national organizations urge President Biden to sign a revised refugee admissions goal

Today, Refugee Council USA and 208 local, state, and national organizations sent a letter to President Biden, urging him to follow through on his promise to refugees around the world.

See the letter here to see who exactly is trying to flood America with third worlders.  In addition to national groups there are groups listed by state.

And, along with the usual contractors and ‘religious’ charities, CAIR is listed, as is Islamic Relief USA and even Codepink!

BTW, RCUSA tracks monthly admissions to the US, see here.

Dragging out Jimmy Carter…..

Jimmy Carter is the granddaddy of the US Refugee Admissions Program and Senator Joe Biden helped create it!

I missed this news last week, but it’s worth adding here.

This is Mark Hetfield of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society using Jimmy Carter to chide Biden.

At the Dallas Morning News:

On the anniversary of the Refugee Act, Biden needs to act

Mark Hetfield of HIAS

On Feb. 12, the Biden administration made the case in a 15-page document to Congress that the White House intends to issue an “emergency presidential determination” to reset the U.S. refugee resettlement program because of “grave humanitarian concerns” and “the public interest.”

The Biden administration’s subsequent failure over the last five weeks to address what is, in its own words, an “emergency” is both perplexing and harmful.

[….]

The now deceased Senator Ted Kennedy was the chief sponsor of the Refugee Act of 1980, Biden helped get the bill passed and Jimmy Carter signed it into law on Saint Patrick’s Day 1980.

With the stroke of a pen, Biden can reverse the harm that Trump has caused the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, raise the refugee ceiling from its current all-time low and, most importantly, end discriminatory policies barring refugees based on national origin.

Yet, in spite of the good intentions expressed on Feb. 12, Biden has merely continued all of the Trump administration’s refugee resettlement policies.

[….]

This past Wednesday was the 41st anniversary of President Jimmy Carter signing the Refugee Act of 1980. To mark the occasion, he issued the following statement reflecting on the importance of the Refugee Act

And then here is Hetfield’s wrap:

As a nation of immigrants and refugees, we now wait for Biden, who as a young senator was a co-sponsor of the Refugee Act, to restore the promise of the act and the American tradition of being a welcoming country.

More here.

No one ever asks (except for me!), but it is interesting to note that Joe Biden’s Delaware hardly ever ‘welcomed’ refugees and here, in the 40 years this program has been changing America. Why is that?

I had more news for the week, but this is getting too long.  Maybe it will keep for next week.

Refugee News Round-up: Third Week of March 2021

I’ll begin this week with high praise for Georgia Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene who introduced legislation in the House of Representatives that calls for a moratorium on immigration.

One tough brave woman! https://vdare.com/posts/marjorie-taylor-greene-backs-full-immigration-moratorium

It will go nowhere, but she deserves much praise for doing something the Republicans rarely do—she went on the offense!

The foolish GOP chickens, time and again,  simply react to what the Dems are pushing and virtually never stake out a position that forces the Socialists to counter them.

Trump did it brilliantly and they all hated him for it. And, that is why they want to get rid of Marjorie as well!

I heard Greene interviewed by Greg Kelly on Newsmax and Kelly seemed a bit nervous when he asked her if she meant a moratorium on all immigration and she said, no, just illegal immigration.

Kelly looked relieved.  Although it is simply a guess on my part, I figure that he has swallowed this line and has been repeating it everywhere:

ILLEGAL immigration is bad, but LEGAL is good!

When I hear someone say that, usually a politician, I know that they don’t know what the hell they are talking about (or they think you are too dumb and uninformed to counter them!).

Don’t they know how screwed-up the LEGAL US Refugee Admissions Program is (I have over 9,000 posts archived here to prove it)?

Don’t they know about all the LEGAL temporary refugees who stay here for decades under the ridiculously named Temporary Protected Status label?

Or, what about the LEGAL Diversity Visa Lottery (aka Green Card Lottery) where 50,000 migrants a year are admitted to the US after winning a lottery—a program that exists thanks to the now deceased Senator Ted Kennedy who created it because he claimed we don’t have enough diversity in the US.

Unaccompanied Alien Children (UAC)

And, that brings me to the news that you are all hearing, every day and all day, that the US border is being overrun by child refugees.

First, the “children” are mostly teenaged boys as I reported here recently.

Oops! Biden Administration Faces Immigration Crisis

Secondly, readers need to understand that these “children” are NOT refugees.

Supposedly they plan to ask for asylum which if granted would make them refugees and give them all the rights of refugees we select and bring to America through the US Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP). However they are not refugees when they arrive.  They are illegal aliens.

Finally, most will never even fit the definition of a legitimate refugee who must prove that he or she is being persecuted, has left their country, and cannot safely return to his/her home country.  The UACs are largely economic migrants.

Seeking a better life and/or running from crime are not legal grounds for refugee status.

I think the Open Borders agitators knew that by pushing legislation two decades ago that put the (mostly) teens’ care under the umbrella of the Office of Refugee Resettlement it would (further) muddy media understanding and cement in the public mind that they are refugees.  They are not!

And, as you know, they are eventually coming to a town near you with the help of at least a couple of the nine refugee resettlement contractors.***

Two contractors that are paid to take care of the kids are the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service.

From the Office of Refugee Resettlement:

View the number of unaccompanied children released to sponsors by state and by county.

The Hill reported yesterday that apparently, since Biden’s inauguration in January, the US border has been breached by 15,000 UACs:

Number of migrant children in US custody passed 15,000: report

The number of migrant children in U.S. custody has passed 15,000, CBS News reported Saturday.

Records reviewed by the network showed that the government has about 15,500 unaccompanied migrant minors in U.S. custody. Over 5,000 unaccompanied minors are currently held in a tent holding facility run by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and other stations along the U.S.-Mexico Border as of Saturday morning.

More here.

And to put that in prospective here is data at the Office of Refugee Resettlement on past years.  See that in the entire FY20, that UACs were at 15,000.

However, there were many Trump years that saw very large numbers of mostly teenaged youths entering the US.

And, btw, I have finally begun hearing commentators on Newsmax say that the “children” are mostly teenagers.  It is about time!

Moving on to other refugee news….

It is a great mystery that as of a couple of days ago there was still no news about Biden signing a Presidential determination to admit 62,500 refugees into the US before September 30th.

As I reported in the first week of March round-up, refugee plane tickets are being cancelled and the so-called banned Muslim refugees have not begun entering the US.

Checking the (limited!) data just now at the Refugee Processing Center, I see that we have admitted only 1,779 refugees in the first 5 months of the fiscal year.  The 2020 fiscal year began on October 1, 2020.  That is a long way from 62,500 with only 6 and a half months to go.

It is interesting to note that the cabal at the Refugee Council USA, the Washington, DC based lobbying arm of the refugee industry, is silent about Biden’s (their man!) failure to sign the determination.

Biden is however, getting some negative media attention for his failure to agree to the 62,500 admissions proposal his State Department has already put forth.  See this headline:

Biden wants credit for reversing Trump’s refugee policies. So why has he left them in place?

In more round-up news LGBTQ refugees are in need of mentoring.

Vermont is looking for more refugees and so is Arkansas.

Refugee News Round-up: Second week of March 2021

First up this week to lure you in (before I get to some more important, but less titillating news) is today’s post at ‘Frauds and Crooks’ which could just as easily have been posted here first.

Know that almost all Somalis in America arrived in the US as refugees (you paid for them to come with your tax dollars) or are the children of refugees.

The resettlement contractors*** and the US State Department salted them throughout the country including in Tennessee.

Busted in Tennessee: Somali Students Ripped-Off College to the Tune of $114,000

And, since we are on the subject of colleges….

A new campaign by the refugee industry is calling on Chairman Joe to get behind the idea of allowing colleges to sponsor refugee families!

This is one more ploy to find more places to ‘welcome’ refugees and it’s a twofer as far as they are concerned—it will help indoctrinate your college students to the supposed joys of diversity as the push is on for so-called ‘action civics’ as I mentioned at ‘Frauds and Crooks’ on Tuesday.

From the Niskanen Center:

More Than 50 Organizations Call Upon Biden Administration To Pursue Campus Sponsorship of Refugees

At first when I saw this news, I assumed that 50 colleges were begging for refugees, but check out the letter, here, and see that the signatures are the usual refugee industry activist groups (including Americans for Prosperity/Koch Brothers, and a few of the resettlement contractors) and only a smattering of colleges are backing the idea.

For my Minnesota friends, St. Cloud State signed the letter.

Another bit of news this week that you need to keep an eye on going forward is this.

The refugee industry wants to make sure that a President could never again lower the ceiling on refugee admissions as Trump did.

Democrat Bill Would Stop Future Presidents Lowering Refugee Intake Quota.

Pay attention to this news too!  In 2014, Obama began a likely illegal program involving Central American children who could be processed into the US as refugees from their own countries. Trump abolished the program, but now Biden has reinstated it.

They think that if they can process ‘kids’ (mostly teens) into the US from their own countries it will slow the rush on the border.  It won’t.

And, by the way, remember that fleeing violence is not a criteria for a legitimate determination as a refugee.  Over the years the open borders Lefties have expanded the definition and just assume they will get away with it because they are rarely challenged in court.

From USA Today:

Biden restarts program to help migrant children fleeing violence in Central America

Find your state refugee coordinator!

One day this past week I was reading information on refugee medical assistance and was reminded about your state refugee coordinators.

Refugee coordinators are in the process (right now!) of figuring out (along with the contractors) how many refugees can be accommodated in certain towns and cities in your state.

Get in touch with them and get as much information as you can about plans for your state by being friendly and courteous.  Your goal is to get information first, so it is also best to not be a know-it-all.   You won’t learn a thing if you start by antagonizing them.

***For New Readers these are the nine federal refugee contractors who worked to put Biden and Harris in the White House, are lobbying for millions of illegal aliens to be transformed into legal voting citizens, and they have succeeded in getting the new administration to promise to raise the ceiling for refugee admissions to 125,000 for next year FY2022—that is the highest it has been in 29 years.

The 62,500 number is for the remainder of FY21.  FY21 ends in less than 7 months.

They are largely paid by you, the taxpayer, for their work of changing America by changing the people, and in so doing, are putting struggling Americans last!
