One more story about immigrants/refugees fueling growth, this time in Minnesota….

I’m not an economist, but what exactly is growth—is growth more houses being built that gobble up open space? Is growth putting more cars on the road? Building more roads? Is growth constructing more schools and hiring more teachers? Building more Walmarts or more low-income housing? Does growth require more government agencies including for more services such as welfare and police? And, does growth mean that we generally need more government to control everybody and every thing?

You betcha! The refugee slowdown is effecting this resettlement contractor’s “growth.” It is all Trump’s fault says its executive director Jane Graupman. Five of nine federal refugee contractors share the refugee pie in MN because business is good (for them). Or, has been good for them until now!

I know, call me an economic ignoramus, but why is all that a good thing—that we must haul in more and more (culture challenging) immigrants to fuel the growth?  Seems like it’s a vicious cycle to me!

The more immigrants we admit to work for mostly big global corporations, the more we need to supply them with things. Is that what growing the economy means?

(See yesterday’s post about how the UN is a driver for mass migration and globalization.)

Anyway, here is a meandering story (worth reading!) from the Twin Cities Business Journal that basically boils down to yet one more whack at Donald Trump for cracking down on immigration of all sorts.

It begins with a whinefest about those good (upstanding!) Minnesota workers illegally crossing in to Canada as they scamper to get out of Trump’s way. (Emphasis below is mine)

A dramatic shift in global migration patterns is unfolding this year on Minnesota’s border with Canada. Refugees—typically from African countries, motivated in part by fears they are not welcome in the United States—have been moving from and through Minnesota to seek asylum in Canada. While their ranks are still small overall, their numbers began spiking last winter as they walked north across the sparsely populated border near Emerson, Manitoba, often risking their lives in sub-zero temperatures.

[….]

Janzen says many asylum seekers have overstayed their U.S. visas, while others have criminal records. [Canada is welcome to them as far as I’m concerned!—-ed]

Both groups fear imminent deportation under the newly instituted zero-tolerance policy. Initially, Janzen says, a majority were Somali, but increasingly they represent a diverse array of ethnicities and national origins. The situation is unprecedented in recent memory.

“I’ve been here for 27 years and I’ve never heard of refugees leaving Minnesota or the [U.S.] to go to Canada,” says Jane Graupman, executive director at the International Institute of Minnesota, one of five refugee resettlement agencies in the Twin Cities. “The tone from the White House is something I’ve never heard before.”  [The International Institute is a subcontractor of primary contractor USCRI***—ed]

Here it is!  It is not about humanitarianism, it is about labor! In Minnesota the poultry industry is a leading consumer of cheap migrant labor, including refugees!

Minnesotans beware of these two spinning news! I had to laugh about the Chamber honcho touting ‘economic studies’ about immigrants starting businesses at a high rate in states other than Minnesota. Is it possible the data is wrong in other states?

All of this is part of a larger economic picture that has caught the attention of Susan Brower, Minnesota’s state demographer. “I’m concerned,” says Brower, who worries that the rising anti-immigration sentiment will lead to a growing labor shortage in Minnesota.

And, for those scratching your heads about why Republicans supported the ‘Gang of Eight’ amnesty bill and refuse to reform the US Refugee Admissions Program, here it is—the Camber of Commerce wants the laborers and the new consumers!

The ongoing failure of both Republicans and Democrats to fix the system frustrates Bill Blazar, a longtime executive at the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce. About a decade ago, the chamber, concerned about looming worker shortages, formed the Minnesota Business Immigration Coalition. The alliance, which works with business lobbies, unions, attorneys, religious groups, social service agencies and professional groups—43 organizations in all—continues to press for an overhaul of the immigration system.

Blazar points to a stream of reports showing that newcomers, who often take big risks coming to the U.S., are generally more likely to start companies than native-born Americans are. (Minnesota is a notable exception to this trend.) But he says the number of Minnesota businesses founded and/or led by immigrants has grown since the 1990s.

[They love to talk about immigrants starting little businesses because that sounds so all-American, but they really want the sweat laborers such as poultry workers who then rent apartments, buy used cars, and buy stuff at Walmart!—ed]

[….]

Brower and Blazar’s concerns are based on data that underscore the importance of workforce growth to the state’s economy. In January, a University of Minnesota analysis predicted the state will fall to zero growth after 2020. This forecast assumes that robust numbers of newly arriving immigrants will continue, but doubts are growing about that assumption. The report also showed that Minnesota has become more dependent on immigrants for workforce growth in recent years.  [Of course they don’t have to pay higher wages when a steady supply of labor is always arriving—ed]

More ‘diversity hires’ will surely be needed in law enforcement going forward.

“Immigration has been fueling our growth,” says Brower. “We would expect to see increases in immigration to Minnesota, overall, under the projections we have out right now.”

But she notes pointedly that if the flow of foreign-born workers tails off, “we’d see no growth, or contraction” in the workforce.

Thus, she concludes, the new hard line doesn’t square with the needs of employers or the prospects for the state’s economy.

There is even more here. And, there is lots of data!

***Federal contractors/middlemen/propagandists/lobbyists/community organizers paid by you to place refugees in your towns and cities (and to find them jobs at places like airports!).

Because their income is largely dependent on taxpayer dollars based on the number of refugees admitted to the US, they work very hard to promote news that refugees fuel the economy, start businesses etc.

The only way for real reform of how the US admits refugees is to remove the contractors/propagandists from the process.

Minneapolis police chief resigns; Bachmann says grand jury must be impaneled

Apparently Mohamed Noor still won’t talk to police investigators in the wake of the worst disaster for advocates of ‘diversity hires’ in America—the shooting by a Somali former refugee of an unarmed woman, an immigrant, who had called 911 looking for help.

Former presidential candidate Rep.Michele Bachmann, not silent in her home state: Where is the grand jury? And, could this have been a hate crime?

Not only has the police chief resigned, announced by the mayor at a tempestuous press conference, but the people of Minneapolis are out for the mayor’s head as well.  Here is one report from The Guardian (foreign press isnt’ giving up on the story!).

Here is what Leo Hohmann (WND) reported yesterday in an update of the story we reported here, here and here.

A day before submitting her resignation, Minneapolis Police Chief Janeé Harteau, in her first public statement on the killing nearly a week ago of an unarmed woman by a Somali refugee cop, called her death “unnecessary” and said it went against the protocol and training given to her officers.

“Justine [Damond] didn’t have to die,” Harteau, the city’s first openly lesbian police chief, said at a press conference Thursday night. Harteau had been hiking in Colorado all week in the aftermath of the shooting.

Harteau said based on current information about the case, there was no justification for officer Mohamed Noor’s decision to shoot Damond, a 40-year-old bride-to-be and yoga instructor who had moved to the U.S. from Australia to be with her fiancée.

Harteau submitted her resignation Friday in the wake of the fatal shooting at the request of Mayor Betsy Hodges, according to a statement from the city.

[….]

Noor has refused to talk with police investigators since the July 15 incident.

Noor is not talking (to investigators) but he has reportedly talked to friends in the Somali community. Time for a grand jury! Sure hope they keep him under surveillance. Too many Somalis simply disappear before they can appear in court when in legal trouble.

Former Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann said Harteau has to accept a large part of the blame for putting an unqualified officer on the street.

“Finally the female chief of Minneapolis police came out and said Justine Damond should still be alive. She said Mohammad Noor had no reason to shoot Justine,” Bachmann told WND. “He violated police policy and training. Noor refuses to cooperate with investigators. He refuses to give a statement.

“Firing him isn’t enough, the question is whether a grand jury will be impaneled. Manslaughter charges should be considered,” she added.

Again, will the prosecutor and police department work to determine whether this was in fact a hate crime. Clearly it wasn’t premeditated, but was it a gut reaction of Mohammad Noor resulting from his cultural beliefs? What mosque did he attend? What are his beliefs?”

Another mystery about what happened last Saturday night involves a missing two minutes from the official police log of the incident.

Hohmann continues:

As noted by a media outlet in Damond’s native Australia, the 9-1-1 tape reveals a “critical missing two minutes.”

A timeline pieced together through the bride-to-be’s 911 calls and a newly released police incident report shows Damond was shot two minutes after police officers arrived at the alleyway behind her home.

“What it doesn’t explain is what happened in those two crucial minutes that prompted officer Mohamed Noor to draw his gun, reach over his partner and discharge his weapon through the open window, delivering a fatal shot to Ms Damond’s abdomen,” reports News.com.au, an Australian outlet.

Go here for the rest of the story and the actual time line.

For new readers!

Don’t miss this post from 2011 where we first learned how so many Somalis ‘found their way’ to Minnesota.  Hint! The US State Department hired Catholic, Lutheran and evangelical contractors*** to place them there because the welfare was so generous and as I later learned, some big industries needed cheap labor including a window company in Owatonna and poultry plants scattered around the state including near St. Cloud and Wilmer.

***Federal contractors/middlemen/lobbyists/community organizers paid by you to place refugees in your towns and cities. At this minute they are sending ‘abstracts’ to Washington which are their personal wish lists and plans for who will be ‘welcomed’ to your towns for the upcoming  fiscal year that begins October 1, 2017.

Because their income is largely dependent on taxpayer dollars based on the number of refugees admitted to the US, the only way for real reform of how the US admits refugees is to remove the contractors from the process.

Minneapolis Somali police officer, shoots and kills woman who called 911

The 40-year-old Australian woman had called 911 to report a disturbance in an alley near the home she shared with her fiance. As  she walked to the responding officers’ car, reportedly in her pajamas, she was shot by officer Mohamed Noor, one of the city’s newest diversity picks for its police force.

Justine who is described as a 40 year old veterinarian and yoga instructor from Australia was inexplicably killed by a Somali refugee cum police officer. Dare I say, white lives matter.

I heard about the story on our local radio station yesterday, but not a word about the shooter, until I read Leo Hohmann’s report at WND last night.  Believe it or not, but CNN was reporting the story this morning complete with the officer’s name scrolled below the report.  CNN said Officer Noor apologized and said he had her friends and family in his “thoughts and prayers.”
There was no explanation given in the CNN report about why he shot the unarmed woman, or why the officers’ body cameras were turned off.
Here is Hohmann at WND:

The Minneapolis cop who shot and killed a 40-year-old woman after she called 9-1-1 to report a possible crime near her home was identified Monday as the precinct’s first Somali-American officer — Mohamed Noor.

Noor has only been a police officer for two years and has already been sued for alleged unprofessional behavior. The May 2017 lawsuit also involved a female and accusations of brutality.

The shooting late Saturday night happened at the end of an alley in the city’s Fulton neighborhood.

Justine Ruszczyk Damond, a native of Sydney, Australia, was a veterinarian and a yoga instructor who recently got engaged to longtime boyfriend Don Damond. She and her fiancé lived in the 5000 block of Washburn.

[….]

Noor, 31, was born in Somalia.

That is Minneapolis mayor Betsy Hodges in green head scarf, literally snuggling with a Somali constituent. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u3po7RG2Eyc

KSTP, citing a source with direct knowledge of the shooting, reported that Noor was sitting in the passenger seat of the squad car at the time of the shooting and “shot across his partner” at Damond, who approached the officers’ car in her pajamas and began talking to the officer in the driver’s seat.

One of Damond’s friends, who identified herself only by her first name, Hannah, told the Star-Tribune that there was “no way” Damond would have been armed.

“She often talked about how much better it was in Australia, where people aren’t allowed to have guns,” Hannah told the local newspaper.

“This is a very bizarre story,” Debra Anderson, chair of ACT For America’s Minnesota chapter and a resident of Minneapolis. “How could a women in pajamas possibly be perceived as a threat, on the opposite side of the car, no less?”

The story is making headlines around the world.

Minneapolis mayor Betsy Hodges will have a lot of explaining to do!

Minneapolis has the nation’s largest concentration of Somali refugees, with the community estimated at approximately 50,000 strong in the city. The city’s Democrat mayor and council have made every effort to hire Somalis as part of the city’s diversity program.

Continue here for more information and more photos. I’ve only snipped a tiny bit of a more detailed story. And, surely there will be updates during the day.
For new readers: Why so many Somalis in Minneapolis?  Thank Catholic Charities and Lutheran Social Services (as well as other refugee contractors) placing Somali Muslims there for decades.  See my post from 2011 when I first learned how that happened.  See yesterday’s post about Catholics and Lutherans placing the largest numbers of refugees into unsuspecting American towns and cities.

Minnesota needs more money to combat refugee communicable diseases

The story at World Net Daily yesterday gave me an opportunity to vent about one of my major pet peeves.  And, that is that economic studies being scattered like rabbit turds around the media landscape that conclude that refugees bring economic prosperity wherever they are dropped never include the true cost of medical care (like MN is experiencing right now), the true cost of the criminal justice system, or the true cost to the economy of remittances (money sent ‘home’ by refugees) that is lost to the US economy.
But, oh well, it is all good for Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey that we deposit refugees throughout America—right Heritage Foundation!
Here is the news and some comments by me:

Minnesota pays out millions every year in welfare for refugees, but there are secondary costs that never get tabulated.

‘Assimilating’ in Minnesota. Somali men and women do not sit together! https://refugeeresettlementwatch.org/2014/09/07/wnd-more-on-minnesota-somalis-welfare-and-jihad/

In fiscal 2017, which ended last last week, the state spent $1.5 million to combat three infectious disease outbreaks — including the largest measles outbreak in 30 years, which swept through in the Somali refugee community. And health officials notified legislative leaders this week that they want to tap a special public-health fund to offset additional costs.

Dr. Ed Ehlinger, Minnesota Health commissioner, told the Star-Tribune his department will need another $600,000 for fiscal 2018 to help control the spread of measles, drug-resistant tuberculosis and syphilis.

The state has had 78 confirmed cases of measles this year, in an outbreak that began in March. Of those 78 cases, 64 have been in the Somali refugee community.

[….]

Ann Corcoran, an expert on the resettlement industry who blogs at Refugee Resettlement Watch, said the industry is fond of churning out “bogus economic studies” that falsely inflate the value of refugees to U.S. communities.

[….]

“I am sick and tired of hearing reports on the economic benefits of the refugees that they pay and start businesses and create jobs, and in those studies they never discuss the true cost of health care, or the true cost to the criminal justice system from the numerous criminal trials, incarcerations, etc.,” Corcoran told WND. “Imagine what it costs to put refugees like Fazliddin Kurbanov away for life.”

[….]

“Have you ever seen a study on the cost of even short-term incarceration? It’s never in those bogus economic studies,” Corcoran said. “And the other thing that is never in there is the remittances that are gone from our economy. And you can bet your bottom dollar it’s not just wage earnings they’re sending back home. They’re sending welfare money back home, too. So you never see a net inflow or outflow of money from our economy in these phony economic studies touting how much these refugees boost our economy.”

Continue reading here and see what Minnesotan Deb Anderson has to say about the secrecy of the refugee industry in the state (are you listening Olivia?).

And, as someone more astute than I pointed out recently: If refugees bring economic prosperity, why isn’t every country in the world begging for more?
