In advance of Obama’s visit to Burma, the NYT does the Rohingya as victims story

Burma, one of the only countries in the world with the guts to stand up to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation. Monks protest in 2013: http://www.demotix.com/news/3243077/buddhist-monks-protest-against-oic/all-media

I would have to write a book to tell you why this story is so infuriating to me.  I don’t have time for books!  But, I have followed the Burma (Myanmar) Rohingya Muslim issue for years (174 previous posts in our Rohingya category) and it makes me want to explode when I see the one-sided portrayal of the issue by the mainstream (leftwing, pro-Islamist media).

By the way, my initial interest in the Rohingya story was that our refugee resettlement contractors are pushing for the US to take more Rohingya refugees (USCCB here), and in fact have already resettled some in America.  Esar Met, convicted of killing a Burmese Christian girl earlier this year in Utah, was almost certainly a Rohingya.

Oh, how times have changed.  Here is Time magazine on the Rohingya in 2002 (see our 2009 post here to see how Time got with the Rohingya as ‘victims’ meme by 2009).  In 2002:

Today, southern Bangladesh has become a haven for hundreds of jihadis on the lam. They find natural allies in Muslim guerrillas from India hiding out across the border, and in Muslim Rohingyas.

Interestingly, the US State Department removed its link where Rohingya had been previously linked to Islamic terror groups.

I don’t see one single word in the New York Times article from last Thursday about what started the latest round of violence between the Buddhist majority and the Muslim Rohingya minority—the rape and murder in 2012 of a Burmese girl by a gang of Muslim men. Not a word about outside Islamic agitators (Muslim “pilgrams”) working among the Rohingya population, and definitely not one word about the Organization of Islamic Cooperation attempting to get an Islamic/sharia foothold in Burma.

Remember everywhere is fair game for the creation of a Sharia state.

Here is the New York Times carrying water for the lecturing Obama again and the Islamist agenda:

SITTWE, Myanmar — The Myanmar government has given the estimated one million Rohingya people in this coastal region of the country a dispiriting choice: Prove your family has lived here for more than 60 years and qualify for second-class citizenship, or be placed in camps and face deportation.

The policy, accompanied by a wave of decrees and legislation, has made life for the Rohingya, a long-persecuted Muslim minority, ever more desperate, spurring the biggest flow of Rohingya refugees since a major exodus two years ago.

In the last three weeks alone, 14,500 Rohingya have sailed from the beaches of Rakhine State to Thailand, with the ultimate goal of reaching Malaysia, according to the Arakan Project, a group that monitors Rohingya refugees.

The crisis has become an embarrassment to the White House ahead of a scheduled visit by President Obama to Myanmar next week. [Obama off to Asia here—ed] The administration considers Myanmar a foreign-policy success story in Asia but is worried that renewed conflict between Buddhist extremists, who are given a free hand by the government, and the Rohingya could derail the already rocky transition from military rule to democratic reform.

Mr. Obama called President Thein Sein of Myanmar last week, urging him to address the “tensions and humanitarian situation in Rakhine State,” the White House said.

In his most public appeal to the government yet, Mr. Obama asked the Myanmar leader to revise the anti-Rohingya policies, specifically the resettlement plan. Myanmar must “support the civil and political rights of the Rohingya population,” he said.

The Rohingya have faced discrimination for decades. They have been denied citizenship and evicted from their homes, their land has been confiscated, and they have been attacked by the military. After one such attack in 1978, some 200,000 fled to Bangladesh.

Many paragraphs of blah, blah, blah and this:

The latest flare-up began with an outbreak of sectarian rioting in 2012, in which hundreds of Rohingya were killed and dozens of their villages burned to the ground by radical Buddhists. Since then, close to 100,000 have fled the country, and more than 100,000 have been confined to squalid camps, forbidden to leave.

No discussion of how the latest flare-up started!  Or, how the Rohingya set Buddhist villages on fire and killed innocents.  Typical biased and disgusting coverage!

See our Rohingya Reports category.  And, you could write a book!

No one wants the Rohingya Muslims either, why is that?

In our previous post this morning we learned that no Muslim countries want to take in their fellow Syrian Muslim Palestinians and the same applies to the Rohingya of Burma and Bangladesh.

Just in time for Mother’s Day, we see the Washington Post on Friday published a lengthy AP sob story on the poor and downtrodden Rohingya people with this large photo centered above the fold on the print edition.

Rohingya mother (“too poor to afford food”) with malnourished 2-month-old featured on the front page of the Washington Post. Photo: Andre Malerba/Getty

I can here the shrieking from critics as I ask this question:  So why is this obviously well-equipped and not underfed mother not breast-feeding her 2-month-old child?

If there is some other medical problem with this child then tell us!  Or, is the purpose of the photo to say that Buddhists starve Muslim children?

The article goes on to tell readers how bad the Buddhists in Burma treat the Rohingya with Buddhist mobs burning villages and killing Rohingya with abandon.  I have been following the news from both sides of this controversy for nearly seven years and frankly it is difficult to tell who started the conflict, but I put my money on Rohingya Muslim agitation for creating most of the problems.

However, of course, the Buddhists get the blame from the Islamic agitators at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation who wanted to open an office in Burma (aka Myanmar).  The Buddhist monks may be the smartest and bravest people in the world to stand up to the politically-correct media, the OIC,  and the humanitarian industrial complex demanding that they turn over part of their country to Muslims.

Read the whole WaPo story if you feel like it.  Then read this story from last month (that I didn’t get to previously) about Rohingya waiting in Indonesia for third country resettlement that never comes.

Indonesia and Malaysia don’t want them!

Two of the stars of this story at IRIN News (Rohingya refugees in Indonesia await resettlement that never comes)  tried to break into Australia, their boat broke down and now they are in “detention” in Indonesia (a Muslim country!).   So why don’t well-off Muslim countries take in their co-religionists?

Rohingya couple in “detention” in Indonesia. Looks like they are safe and comfortable to me! http://www.irinnews.org/report/99991/rohingya-refugees-in-indonesia-await-resettlement-that-never-comes

We even had a report in 2012 that Saudi Arabia did not want Rohingya in the kingdom!

Rohingya to America?

The drumbeat to bring Rohingya Muslims to America has been pretty quiet recently (I expect there is lobbying behind the scenes though!).  Last year we heard the US Conference of Catholic Bishops testify to the State Department that it was time to bring in more Rohingya.

There are Rohingya mixed in with the Christian Burmese we have been resettling for most of the last decade.  One Burmese Muslim refugee of note was Esar Met who was found guilty of raping and brutally murdering a little Christian girl in Salt Lake City earlier this year.

Stories, like the one-sided Washington Post/AP report, are published in an effort to put pressure on the Burmese government and to ultimately soften you up to the idea of “welcoming” Rohingya to your neighborhoods.  It is pure propaganda.

For new readers:  We have an entire category on the Rohingya issue with 173 previous posts.  Someone should write a book because it’s a great example of how the Open borders Left with its “humanitarian” cover and the Islamists have manipulated the news.  One day Americans will be scratching their heads and wondering where did all these Rohingya Muslims come from?  (Just as they are doing now with the burgeoning Somali population in certain US cities.)

The OIC does not need an office in Burma (Myanmar)

No OIC! No Sharia Law! Take Foreign Bengalis to your country! Monks protest in Sittwe last Friday

But, they sure would like one.

It is my view that it would serve no purpose other than to create a political agitation foothold in the largely Buddhist country.  If the rich countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation want to send humanitarian aid (food and supplies) to their fellow Muslims, let them do it through established international channels!

My alerts this morning are filled with Ihsanoglu crying stories, but here is a surprisingly (slightly) more balanced story written by Nizam Ahmed at The Financial Express (emphasis is mine):

US Ambassador Derek Mitchell was hanging around during the OIC visit according to The Financial Express.

The Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) urged Myanmar to allow opening a country office in Naypyitaw so that the organisation could cooperate and contribute to socio-economic development programmes in the Buddhist-majority country, diplomatic sources said in Dhaka Saturday.

The call was made during official level talks between an OIC delegation and Myanmar officials in the capital of the Southeast Asian country Thursday, the second day of a four-day visit.

The delegation led by OIC Secretary-General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu concluded the visit Saturday after assessing the level of human rights abuse against minority Muslim Rohingyas, the sources said.

However the delegation while visiting camps of homeless people, mostly Rohingya Muslims, displaced during the communal riots in western Rakhine state over the past one year, met noisy protests of ethnic Buddhists in Sittwe, the capital of the state Thursday.

About 3,000 Buddhists led by monks staged the protest when the OIC delegation visited different camps of displaced Rohingyas and met local officials in the Rakhine state (formerly Arakan), bordering Bangladesh.

However Rohinygas welcomed the delegation comprising senior officials of the respective foreign ministries of seven member countries namely Bangladesh, Djibouti, Egypt, Indonesia, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia and Turkey, who visited the camps, said a senior official at the ministry of foreign affairs in Dhaka.

The ethnic Buddhists staged the protest as they feel that the international aid groups are biased for Muslims in Myanmar, he said. [yes they are!—ed]

Now this is unbelievable!  For the first time in a very long time someone actually mentions that the latest upheaval resulted from the rapes and murders of  Buddhist girls by Muslims!

Rakhine state was the scene of communal clashes between Muslims and ethnic Buddhists last year that left some 200 mostly Rohingya Muslims dead and 140,000 others displaced.   [Rarely does anyone mention that Buddhists died in the clashes too!  Some Muslims were killers as well, but you would never know it from western media reports!—-ed]

The riot that erupted last year over alleged rape of two women by Muslims, opened up an old wound of sectarian animosity and hatred between the two communities.

Here is one more point of fact rarely mentioned these days.  Buddhists claim the Rohingya are largely illegal migrants who have come over from Bangladesh in modern times.

Myanmar Buddhists consider Rohingya Muslims illegal immigrants from neighbouring Bangladesh, brought over by the British when they ruled over colonial India and Myanmar, also known as Burma. The Rohingyas say, in response, that they have lived in the country for generations.

The protest photo is from this story.   I loved the banner telling the OIC to take the ‘Bengalis’ (Rohingya) to their countries.  That is exactly what I’ve been saying!

As I said yesterday:

Editors note:  Pay attention!  This is not some faraway problem—it will be yours in the West when they start pushing in a big way for the resettlement of Rohingya to your towns!

This past May the US Conference of Catholic Bishops implored the US State Department to bring MORE Rohingya to America.

Anyone want to write a book?  See our previous 160 posts in our Rohingya Reports category.  LOL!  We have your research done!

Burma: One of the few places in the world telling the OIC to take a hike!

Protestors Nov. 15th with NO! OIC stickers and banners. Photo: AFP

The OIC, of course, is the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the Buddhists in Burma (Myanmar) believe they have come to their country to help facilitate the expansion of the Muslim population and Islam in the mostly Buddhist nation.

Here is the story in the Irrawaddy (one of many today) about protests that greeted OIC members from Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Malaysia, Egypt etc.   My view is that if they are so concerned about the “plight” of the Rohingya, then resettle them to their Muslim countries!  (emphasis below is mine)

RANGOON — A high-level delegation from the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was greeted by an estimated 3,000 protestors Friday, when the group that includes foreign ministers from Islamic countries arrived in western Burma’s troubled Arakan State.

Monks: Get out OIC!

A group from the 57-member OIC arrived in Burma on Wednesday to meet with officials and investigate the situation of Rohingya Muslims, who make up the majority of the estimated 140,000 people displaced by two waves of violence in Arakan State last year. At least 192 people were killed in inter-communal violence between Arakanese Buddhists and Rohingya, who the government of Burma does not recognize as citizens.

Buddhists have staged demonstrations across the country this week accusing the OIC of trying to interfere in Burmese affairs.

On Friday, the delegation landed at about noon at Sittwe Airport, where angry demonstrators held aloft banners saying “Get Out OIC,” and “We Don’t Want OIC.”

“Our people arrived here at 7 am. We have over 3,000 people,” Tun Hlaing, an organizer of the protest, told The Irrawaddy. “We all shouted to them that we do not want them to come here.”

The Burmese government has approved the visit and reportedly guaranteed the security of delegates, who include OIC Secretary-general Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Malaysian, Saudi Arabian, Egyptian, Djiboutian and Bangladeshi officials.

Tun Hlaing said the group did not leave the airport, but was taken by Burmese military helicopters to parts of Arakan State where the population is majority Rohingya.

Having watched this situation evolve for nearly 6 years, I believe this is exactly correct:

Tun Kyi claimed the conflict between Buddhists and Muslims in Arakan State is stirred up by international involvement.

And, for the umpteenth time, Americans should be concerned because the federal refugee contractors want more Rohingya resettled in your towns and cities.   Some are already here.  See our Rohingya Reports category with its 158 previous posts to learn more.

Top photo is from this story (Radio Free Asia).   The second photo is from the Irrawaddy.

Muslim Bangladesh doesn’t want more Muslim (Rohingya) refugees

So, they are now banning some aide groups fearing those groups only attract more Rohingya.  I have such a backlog of things I want to post today, so I’m just throwing this one up so as to keep our Rohingya category up-to-date and to make the point again that although Muslims claim to be the most charitable “religion” in the world they are pretty rotten to their own people.

Just a little background, these camps discussed in the story are mostly in and around Cox’s Bazar which has in the past been a breeding ground for Islamist terrorist groups (take my word for it we have posts going back 5 years confirming that).  Also, remember that the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) wanted to get into Burma to aid the Muslims there and the largely Buddhist country said no.

So my solution to this is let the money-bags of the OIC feed/clothe/house these Muslims in the Muslim country of Bangladesh.

Here is the story about the ban on some western NGOs.

COX’S BAZAR, 17 December 2012 (IRIN) – Some 40,000 undocumented Rohingya refugees are being adversely affected by a government ban four months ago on NGOs working at two makeshift sites in southeastern Bangladesh.

In August, Bangladeshi authorities ordered three NGOs – Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Action Against Hunger and Muslim Aid UK – to stop the formal delivery of humanitarian services, including health care and nutrition assistance to undocumented Rohingya refugees, saying such services would encourage more to flee to Bangladesh.

According to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR), there are more than 200,000 Rohingyas in Bangladesh, of whom only 30,000 are documented and living in two government camps assisted by the agency.

Some 12,000 documented refugees live at the Kutupalong camp in Cox’s Bazar District, with another nearly 18,000 further south at Nayapara – both within 2km of Myanmar. The 40,000 undocumented refugees live on the periphery of the two official camps.

Documented refugees are provided food rations by the World Food Programme (WFP), along with shelter assistance, non-food items, water/sanitation services, vocational training and supplementary feeding for malnourished refugees by UNHCR.

However, most Rohingya – a mainly Muslim ethnic group who fled persecution en masse to Bangladesh from Myanmar’s neighbouring Rakhine State years earlier – are undocumented.

UNHCR has not been permitted to register newly arriving Rohingya since mid-1992.

Only those who are documented receive regular assistance, while those who are undocumented are largely dependent on a handful of international NGOs who until recently were allowed to work in the area.

Why do we care about the UNHCR in Bangladesh and Burma?  Because if the US Conference of Catholic Bishops has its way, more Rohingya will be coming to your towns and cities.  From testimony at the May 2012 hearing held by the US State Department about resettlements for 2013:

…..one thing that jumped out at me in what I’ve read so far (or heard at the meeting) is that no one spoke for Christians persecuted by Muslims!  The US Conference of Catholic Bishops never even mentioned them, but they sure asked the State Department to send more Muslims to the US, in particular, they want more Somalis and Rohingya* (Burmese Muslims)!   Several of those testifying also called for the prompt re-opening of the P-3 family reunification program that has been closed for nearly 4 years due to the widespread fraud uncovered involving Africans, mostly Somalis.  The State Department has reported that as many as 36,000 Africans entered the US fraudulently in a 5 year period after 9/11!
