Comment worth noting: Correspondent from Australia brings us up to date

Editor’s note:  Since we have been so focused on the ruckus going on in the US with resettlement, especially as Rep. Trey Gowdy does the first brave thing  (out of Congress) that we have ever seen in our nearly eight year project to shed light on the US Refugee Admissions Program, we have been forgetting our readers around the world.

Below is an update from Australia thanks to ‘FatherJon’ where the Abbott government is one of the few in the world discouraging the illegal aliens (phony asylum seekers) from trying to break into their country.

From Australian government campaign to stop the boats. http://www.buzzfeed.com/jennaguillaume/australian-government-sends-graphic-message-to-asylum-seeker#.cfmwzdL6aA

Ann, the boats have stopped, due to the efforts of our Abbott Federal government. If they don’t get a lot right they’ve certainly got the boat problem solved.

Problem is that under the previous Labor governments a backload of foreign kids built up to several thousands, as families thought that this was a better ruse than just sending teenage ‘Ali’ out as a forward scout. A government can get tough with a young shaver and refuse him landing rights, but they can’t do that with a family which includes young kids, right? Wrong! Kids were locked up with their families, firstly on the mainland, then on off-shore detention centres, then in neighbouring countries that welcomed the cash injection as we off-set our detention costs at home by giving hand-outs to Papua New Guines, Nauru and Cambodia to look after the illegals.

However the human rights lawyers attacked that on all fronts, claiming it was doubly inhumane to lock up children, and the gradual push was to get as many kids on the mainland to be given temporary protection visas. This allowed them to go to school and lead lives outside internment. There are now a little over 100 kids left, who have yet to be placed due to initiatives of the present government.

The Abbott government is now negotiating with Iran to take back its own nationals, who comprise roughly 80% of the detainees, but it’s proving a tough nut to crack as Iran just says ‘we can’t take back our own if they didn’t want to be here in the first place’. Our Foreign Minister is in Iran as I write trying to work out a deal about sending them back.

The next US President needs to get some pointers from Tony Abbott!

Australia: Tony Abbott cracking down on radical Muslims and mosques; welfare mooches

Sigh!  How wonderful it would be to have a real leader….

From Top Right News (Australian Leader Abbott Slams Muslim Imams, Launches Crackdown on Radical Mosques, Muslims Furious) thanks to Fatherjon:

Australian Muslims were outraged on Tuesday after Prime Minister Tony Abbott hurled criticism at their leaders to “get with the program” to combat Islamic extremism, and launched a nationwide crackdown on radical Muslims and mosques.

It was a speech that many Americans wish their own leader might give.

In an address to the nation about security, Abbott slammed Islamic leaders and their attitudes toward extremism:

“I’ve often heard Western leaders describe Islam as a ‘religion of peace’,” the conservative leader said. “I wish more Muslim leaders would say that more often, and mean it.”

Abbott’s speech comes in the wake of a hostage siege by a Muslim radical Imam in a Sydney cafe that left three dead last December.

Abbott also announced a national security crackdown that would deny welfare payments to people seen as potential threats, strip the passports of those with dual nationality and curb travel overseas — a move designed to curb Australians from fighting with ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

[Actually on this bit—stopping them from leaving Australia—I wouldn’t stop them.  In fact, I might offer a free ride out to the Syrian wilderness and revoke their passports.  All aboard!—ed]

He linked welfare to terrorism

Abbott said new laws would remedy failings on the immigration, welfare, policing and intelligence fronts by clamping down on supporters of radicals, especially Muslim welfare recipients, and also target “hate preachers.”

He explicitly linked welfare to terrorism, accusing dozens of Australians fighting in Syria and Iraq of having been on the dole, and adding that payments to “individuals assessed to be a threat to security” could soon be cancelled.

We have an extensive archive on Australia, here, one of the only countries in the world actively trying hard to save itself from Muslim migration (from the Hijra!).

Australia: No more sugar on the table for UNHCR ‘refugees’ in Indonesia!

If only we had men like these leading America. Scott Morrison (left) and Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott (right).

Maybe some of our Australian readers are not perfectly happy with everything the Abbott government does, but we sure are loving them.

Can you imagine the sputtering and fuming going on at the United Nations over the latest comments by Australian Immigration Minister Scott Morrison.

Keep in mind as you read this that international refugee law says that asylum seekers are to ask for asylum in the first safe country they reach, thus the mostly Muslim ‘asylum’ seekers should ask for asylum in Indonesia (a Muslim country***).  But, of course, as we see in Europe every day, they are really ‘asylum’ shoppers (aka economic migrants) not truly persecuted people.

From the UK Daily Mail (hat tip: ‘pungentpeppers’):

(Emphasis is mine)

Australian Immigration Minister Scott Morrison Wednesday said he was “taking the sugar off the table” in announcing that Canberra was slamming the door on UN-registered asylum-seekers in Indonesia.

Morrison said that from July next year, asylum-seekers officially recognised by the United Nations refugee agency in Jakarta would no longer be eligible for resettlement in Australia.

The move, he said, was part of the government’s work to “strip people-smugglers of a product to sell to vulnerable men, women and children” and stop Indonesia being used as a transit lounge.
“We’re taking the sugar off the table. That’s what we’re doing,” he told ABC radio.

“We’re trying to stop people thinking that it’s OK to come into Indonesia and use that as a waiting ground to get to Australia.”

The giant northern neighbour is not a refugee generating country, but has become a key magnet for others seeking to reach Australia, often through treacherous boat journeys that have left hundreds dead.

Since the government came to power last year, its hardline immigration policy — to deny asylum-seekers arriving by boat resettlement in Australia and instead send them to camps in Papua New Guinea and the Pacific state of Nauru — has halted the flow.

The move to shut the door on even those registered with the UNHCR refugee agency in Indonesia is the next step, Morrison said.

“While nine of 10 months of 2014 have passed without a successful people-smuggling venture to Australia, we know smugglers continue to encourage asylum-seekers to travel illegally to Indonesia for the purpose of seeking resettlement in Australia,” he said.

I wonder how Obama felt in the presence of real men in Australia a few days ago?

By the way, if those unaccompanied alien children‘ who traveled through Mexico to the US border were legitimate asylum seekers they would have asked for asylum in Mexico!

*** Another element to consider is whether the Muslim government of Indonesia and the UNHCR are helping to advance the Hijra (Islamic migration) by attempting to send more Muslims to non-Muslim countries.

Australia may take 4,000 Christian Iraqi and Syrian refugees

The Abbott government, which is constantly beaten-up by those who want Australia to take in the world, is considering resettling persecuted Christians, but that isn’t enough for the no-borders pushers.

From the Sydney Morning Herald:

The Abbott government is considering offering refuge to as many as 4000 Iraqis and Syrians after the new Anglican Primate of Australia, Philip Freier, called for asylum in Australia for Christians facing slaughter in northern Iraq.

Dr Freier, Anglican Archbishop of Melbourne, said he had written to Prime Minister Tony Abbott and Immigration Minister Scott Morrison asking that they emulate France in offering refuge to Christians facing forced conversion to Islam or death.

By the way, has anyone seen anything from the US Conference of Catholic Bishops, the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service or any of the other US “religious” resettlement contractors saying we should be taking CHRISTIANS into the US now?  Or, are they so politically-correct and fearful of saying anything against Islam that they keep their mouths shut?

(New readers of RRW probably don’t know that Catholics and Lutherans are responsible for much of the Muslim refugee resettlement happening in the US right now.)

Adam Bandt wants to know why Abbott treats those in detention differently than persecuted Christians from Iraq. Could it be that those in detention have broken the law and won’t make good citizens.

Greens call out Abbott

The text of the Sydney Morning Herald story does not include anything from the Green Party, but there is a clip of Green Party leader Adam Bandt criticizing Tony Abbott for what he calls hypocrisy because while perhaps agreeing to take 4,000 refugees now, the government is holding hundreds of Iraqis in detention.  He wonders why the disparity in treatment.

It is pretty obvious to me!   Those in detention are mostly Muslims who broke into Australia illegally—not persecuted Christians running for their lives at the moment.

Here is the caption under the film clip:

PM needs to decide if he’s a humanitarian or a hypocrite: Greens

Granting extra places to refugees fleeing Iraq is a good start, but it would be hypocritical of the government to send refugees already in detention back to Iraq says Adam Bandt.

Australia: The ‘asylum-seeker’ showdown we all need to be watching!

As readers here know, Australia has a new government, a conservative one, which promises to get the ‘boat people’ crisis under control.  But, the human rights industrial complex is punching back hard with a gambit to take the Abbott government before the UN Human Rights Council before it even gets off the ground.

Tony Abbott sworn in September 18th as the new Australian Prime Minister. Immigration policy was on the voters’ minds.

Here is the news from The Guardian (Australia’s refugee stance sets ‘alarming global precedent’).  Precedent is right, alarming is wrong.  Every Western country must get its borders under its control and we will all be watching to see if Australia can stem the tide of mostly economic migrants (most from Muslim countries) arriving by the thousands on their shores.

[Here is another story (Global Post) on the same subject, hat tip:  Joanne]

The Guardian gasping in indignation:

Australia is engaging in “unlawful and increasingly punitive” treatment of asylum seekers, an Australian legal group will tell the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

In a scathing statement to be read out to the UN’s premier human rights body on Tuesday night, the Melbourne-based Human Rights Law Centre will call on the council to condemn the “alarming global precedent” set by Australia’s stance towards refugees who arrive by boat.

The HRLC will highlight how asylum seekers are being “subjected to arbitrary, indefinite detention” in inadequate conditions on Nauru and Manus Island based on their mode of arrival, contrary to the Refugee Convention, of which Australia is a signatory.

The statement also criticises the new Coalition government’s policies of towing back boats to their origin, abolishing the right to appeal negative refugee assessments to an independent tribunal and the withdrawal of publicly-funded legal assistance for asylum seekers.

From the Global Post story here is another list of the new measures Abbott proposes in order to discourage those who are invading Australia:

Abbott says he will use the navy to tow rickety people-smuggling boats back to their place of origin — typically Indonesia — and will force those who do arrive or are already here onto a tough new regime.

They will be placed on three-year temporary visas with no chance of permanent residency, denied family reunion, appeal or legal assistance and made to work for government benefits.

The general supposition is that most who are arriving illegally are economic migrants and not truly in need of protection, as is the case for the majority of illegal migrants to the US.  They have all just figured out how to use that magic word—asylum.
