What do you think?

I’ve been betting on Sweden, but some of my compatriots say it will be the UK.  Other guesses?

The news from Sweden’s election yesterday would indicate that Sweden has just stepped-up the pace in the all important race over the cliff for western civilization.  Or has it?

The Wall Street Journal reports that the Swedish Left wing has pushed out the Center right with Leftists angry that their welfare state is eroding.  They worry that health care isn’t as good nor is education as it used to be, but this article laughably makes no DIRECT link to the enormous influx of Muslim third-worlders Sweden has “welcomed” and the decline in the ability of the social safety net to hold them all.

I suppose the big question for the Left is:  do they want the welfare reserved for Swedes or are they sharing their goodies with the world (until they run out)?

The media label Akesson “anti-immigrant.” Now they will have to pay attention to us says the leader of the Sweden Democrats.

Eventually the WSJ mentions the Syrians and the success of the “anti-immigration” party, Sweden Democrats, in the election.

The strong showing of the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats—whose share of votes climbed to 13% from 5.7% in the 2010 election—surprised pollsters. Their opposition strength in parliament also could force Mr. Lofven to recruit a center-right party to his coalition to ensure he can drive through policies.

Fifteen paragraphs in we finally hear about the Syrians (on top of all the other Muslims from places like Iraq and Somalia already flooding into Sweden).  We told you about Sweden swinging wide the door to Syrians just when Obama visited last year at this time, here.

Last September, Sweden became the only European Union country to offer permanent residence to Syrians fleeing their devastated homeland and ahead of the election Mr. Reinfeldt asked Swedes to “open their hearts” to those seeking refuge.

He also acknowledged that immigration will strain the state budget in the short term, something the Sweden Democrats seized on for their campaign. They became the country’s third biggest party in Sunday’s voting.  [LOL! short term?  Where are they going to get the resources long term?—ed]

“Now it will be hard for the other parties to ignore us,” Party Leader Jimmie Akesson said.

For those of you watching Europe’s slide with bets on the UK going first, here are some stats from the Daily Mail yesterday (hat tip: ‘pungentpeppers’) that argue for your case.

Maine governor’s effort to cut welfare to asylum seekers/other migrants stymied

Maine has a reputation in the country (and probably in Africa too!) as the go-to state for welfare benefits before one is even a legal resident.  In fact, it is the welfare magnet that brought the first of what is now tens of thousands of Somalis to Maine.  (Click here for one of our most-read posts about Maine the welfare magnet).

On Friday, Maine Attorney General Janet Mills ruled that it would be unconstitutional for Maine to disallow social services to those seeking asylum or generally illegally in the state.

Keep in mind that federal laws do not give benefits to asylum seekers UNTIL they have been granted legal asylum status.  Just because one says one is seeking asylum that does not give them the rights of legitimate ‘refugees.’   Maine has been giving benefits to one and all, thus the flood of migrants to Maine.

The fiscally conservative governor has been trying to stem this budget-bleed since he took office in 2011.

Here is the latest at The Bangor Daily News (emphasis is mine):

AUGUSTA, Maine — Maine Attorney General Janet Mills has ruled that a proposal by Gov. Paul LePage to bar immigrants and asylum seekers from receiving General Assistance is illegal and unconstitutional.

Health and Human Services Commissioner Mary Mayhew reacted with dismay and said she will continue to pursue implementation of the rule.

The proposed new rule, which was unveiled late last year by the Maine Department of Health and Human Services, was meant to align qualification for the state’s General Assistance program with other public assistance programs such as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. In essence, the proposal would block anyone from receiving General Assistance until they receive full U.S. citizenship.

Mayhew said Friday in a written statement that she has revised the rule so that only illegal immigrants — and not legal noncitizens — would be barred from the General Assistance program.

Lewiston, the Somali capital of New England, is one of three migrant-overloaded cities in Maine.

The rule would allow towns and cities to continue to provide the benefit, which is intended as an emergency measure to help individuals and families through financial crises, but without any financial support from the state. In most municipalities, the state pays 50 percent of the benefits, though there are three cities — Bangor, Portland and Lewiston — where state support ramps up to 90 percent after local spending reaches a certain threshold.

General Assistance cost the state and local municipalities a total of $12 million in 2013 and provided an average benefit of $966 to approximately 12,000 people. About 64 percent of that cost was in the immigrant-heavy cities of Bangor, Lewiston and Portland.

Has civil war already begun in Sweden?

Fjordman, the well-known Norwegian writer/investigator has penned a piece about Sweden in which he predicts a coming civil war in the world’s model ‘welcoming’ welfare state—Sweden.  Indeed it may already have begun as largely Muslim immigrant gangs are pushing crime rates through the ceiling.

Below are snippets I’ve selected from his longer post at the Bolton Patriot (a publication of the British National Party).  For readers of RRW, you know we have been following closely Sweden’s open borders policy for years and none of what follows should be news to you!  If you are a new reader, type Sweden into our search function and catch up with dozens of posts on the topic.   (emphasis below is mine)

The country that gave us Bergman, ABBA and Volvo could become known as the Bosnia of north Europe.

The “Swedish model” would no longer refer to a stable and peaceful state with an advanced economy, but to a Eurabian horror story of utopian multiculturalism, socialist mismanagement and runaway immigration. Some thought I was exaggerating, and that talk of the possibility of a future civil war in Sweden was pure paranoia. Was it? In a new sociological survey (pdf in Swedish, with brief English introduction) entitled “Vi krigar mot svenskarna” (“We’re waging a war against the Swedes”), young immigrants in the troubled city of Malmö have been interviewed about why they are involved in crime. Although it is not stated, most of the immigrant perpetrators are Muslims.

The immigrant youth regard the Swedes as stupid and cowardly: “The Swedes don’t do anything, they just give us the stuff. They’re so wimpy.”

It is interesting to note that these Muslim immigrants state quite openly that they are involved in a “war,” and see participation in crime and harassment of the native population as such.

Resident aliens from Algeria, Libya, Morocco and Tunisia dominate the group of rape suspects.

One can see the mainstream media are struggling to make sense of all of this. That is because they cannot, or do not want to, see the obvious: this is exactly how an invading army would behave: rape, pillage and bombing. If many of the Muslim immigrants see themselves as conquerors in a war, it all makes perfect sense.

Malmö in Sweden, set to become the first Scandinavian city with a Muslim majority within a decade or two, has nine times as many reported robberies per capita as Copenhagen, Denmark. Yet the number one priority for the political class in Sweden during this year’s national election campaign seems to be demonizing neighboring Denmark for “xenophobia” and a “brutal” debate about Muslim immigration.

What happened to the Swedish nanny state, you say? Don’t Swedes pay the highest tax rates in the world? Yes, they do. But tens of billions of kroner, some say several hundred billions, are being spent every year on propping up rapidly growing communities of Muslim immigrants. Sweden has become the entire world’s welfare office, because the political elites have decided that massive Muslim immigration is “good for the economy.”

Although Sweden is an extreme example, similar stories could be told about much of Western Europe. As Mark Steyn points out, the Jihad in the streets of France looked like the early skirmishes of an impending Eurabian civil war, brought on by massive Muslim immigration and Multicultural stupidity. Law and order is slowly breaking down in major and even minor cities across the European continent, and the streets are ruled by aggressive gangs of Muslim youngsters. At the same time, Europeans are paying some of the highest taxes in the world.

This is urgent. When enough people feel that the system is no longer working and that the social contract has been breached, the entire fabric of democratic society could unravel. What happens when the welfare state system breaks down, and there is no longer enough money to “grease” the increasing tensions between immigrants and native Europeans?

Addendum:  So, if you read our post from several days ago about 2000 Somalis having to be dispersed by the police in Columbus, OH after going wild for 200 subsidized apartments, is it too hard to imagine that the incident will become a more serious one when the US welfare system begins to crumble.  And, it will, it cannot sustain itself with larger and larger numbers of needy third world immigrants entering the country.
