Boston bomber pal gets out on bail with help from “refugee” mom’s elite friends

Robel Phillipos is charged with lying to federal investigators after he and others went to Dzhokar Tsarnaev’s room after Phillipos recognized his friend on the videos released by the FBI in the days following the marathon terrorist attack.  He did not call the police to report that he recognized the bombing suspect as his buddy.  A shouted question from a reporter yesterday as to why he didn’t alert authorities is heard at the end of this interview with his lawyers (as they walked away).

From the Daily Caller:

Robel Phillipos, the 19-year old classmate of Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokar Tsarnaev who was charged with lying to federal investigators, gained release from custody with the help of a number of supportive affidavits from Boston-area academics and humanitarians close to his mother, according to a copy of his bond request obtained by the Daily Caller.

Mom is Ethiopian refugee who has important Boston “humanitarian” friends:

Phillipos’ mother Genet Bekele — an Ethiopian refugee who holds a master’s degree in social work from Boston University and worked for a refugee resettlement agency and as the director of the emergency shelter at the nonprofit battered women’s shelter Transition House — provided an affidavit in support of her son.

Transition House executive director Risa Mednick also provided an affidavit supporting Phillipos, claiming that she knew Phillipos’ mother when they both worked at Transition House and on the Cambridge Domestic Violence Task Force. Mednick claimed that Phillipos had a “surprisingly nuanced understanding of how social issues impact families and youth.”

Wellesley College art professor Salem Mekuria also provided an affidavit defending Phillipos.

“Robel’s mother is one of the most humanitarian and generous beings I know. Having experienced hardship as a refugee after escaping from an oppressive military regime, she has been working tirelessly to help others with similar experiences,” Mekuria said in an affidavit.

Martha Goldberg, a sponsored programs administrator at Harvard’s John F. Kennedy School of Government, also defended Phillipos and stated that many employees of the International Institute of Boston knew the young man.

“I met Genet fifteen years ago as a coworker at the International Institute of Boston. I knew all about Robel as she would talk about him and many of the other staff members knew him. We were all proud of him because he was a really sweet, smart kid,” Goldberg testified in her affidavit.  [Smart?—ed]

For my critics!  I do have sympathy for Mom!

Readers, if you are having trouble finding the International Institute of Boston that’s because it is now “doing business as” the International Institute of New England.  It is another of the 300 plus subcontractors resettling refugees and providing services to “new Americans.”  I believe they are still a subcontractor of USCRI (remember them here yesterday).

Some of these contractors (top nine who have a monopoly) and subcontractors have changed their names over the years, why?  I assume it’s because somehow they got in trouble with federal grant money, but who knows, it could be innocent name changes.  Here in 2009, I reported that USCRI itself changed its name.  In any case it makes it harder for the average taxpaying citizen to keep up with them!

Ethiopian on expired visa storms US Capitol steps, scares a bunch of Congressmen

What is this, Ethiopians gone wild week?   We have the Ethiopian Boston Bomber pal released on bail today, the Takoma Park ‘Death to America’ graffiti artist arrested and now this.

Greta Van Sustern has the story, here.

Ethiopian nabbed by Capitol Police today after storming Capitol steps, demanding amnesty NOW!
(just kidding on that last bit!)

Bit of a scary scene here at the Capitol as dozens upon dozens of members exit the Capitol at the end of votes.

Middle Eastern appearing man runs past police at the base of the steps….and toward the House entrance as members were coming down. Has a backpack. Starts yelling “I am Ethiopian” and “Salaam, Saalaam.” He unfurls a small Ethiopan flag….before Capitol Police tackle him. He ran right past me as I was talking with Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).

Gets very close to the door as there were literally 40 or so members on the steps. Came close to getting inside.

Members were told to divert from the door as they left after the votes.

It appears the suspect had nothing but books in his backpack and has a visa that expired in 2006.

Crazy!

Oh, now I know, he thinks the Gang of Eight is taking too much time with his amnesty.  Remember readers, it will be people like this visa over-stayer who will be eligible for legalization if Rubio and the Gang get their way.

Montgomery Co. MD man arrested for racist graffiti

The 32-year old “student” Dawit Bezuneh was arrested for scrawling “Death to America” and “Cracker is inferior race” on the walls of his school—Montgomery College/Takoma Park.

This is hilarious!  Takoma Park is the hometown of Thomas Perez soon to be Obama’s Labor Secretary, the birthplace of CASA de Maryland (scroll down to second half of this post), and it’s a town that allows non-citizens to vote—hardly a town whose residents could be called ” white crackers.”   They “welcome” immigrants there, just like Cambridge, Mass does!

Dawit Bezuneh arrested for writing “Death to America” and racist slurs in Takoma Park, MD

I’m guessing Bezuneh is an Ethiopian refugee or asylee (DC area is loaded with them), but of course no media accounts (I read several) mention his immigration status or his nationality.

Here is the story from Scott McCabe at the Washington Examiner (last Friday):

A 32-year-old District of Columbia man has been accused of vandalizing Montgomery College’s Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus with racist graffiti.

Takoma Park police said 32-year-old Dawit Bezuneh used spray paint to tag “Death to America” and green and red markers to write “Cracker is inferior race,” “white crackers” throughout the school.

Cracker, sometimes “white cracker,” is sometimes a pejorative expression for white people, police said.

The vandalism occurred between October and April and appeared to be racially motivated, [duh!–ed] police said. Graffiti was written inside classrooms, bathrooms, in the library and on computer equipment.

Bezuneh was charged with malicious destruction of property, malicious destruction of property scheme, and race, religion ethnic property damage. More charges are pending, police said.

Readers, assuming he is Ethiopian (but even if he isn’t, this is interesting anyway!), check out this post about an Imam in Northern Virginia stirring up Ethiopian Muslims with “jihad talk.”  We have many more posts on Ethiopian refugees so just type “Ethiopians” into our search function for more.

Somali sentenced to life in prison for North Dakota mass murder

Good deal for the American taxpayer? You paid to resettle him here and you will now pay for his incarceration for life!

Brenda Walker at VDARE (they are on top of the news, visit them and follow them on twitter!) has the whole story here.

Go there and read it.

Our original coverage on the case began here in 2011.  The family he killed was of Native American origin (which is neither here nor there, they are dead, but might be of interest to our liberal readers.)

Your tax dollars will now support him for life—he is 28, so if we are unlucky, for 50-60 years we will clothe, house and feed him special Halal meals!

One new consideration—we are now deporting Somalis back to Somalia, here.

For new readers: We have admitted well over 100,000 Somali refugees to the US.   To check out the numbers visit this post, one of our most widely read posts over the last few years.

Since the beginning of the 2013 fiscal year we have resettled 3,674 Somalis.  If that rate continues we will be bringing  nearly 9,000 Somalis to your cities this year, putting 2013 right up there with some of our top resettlement years (since 9/11!) for Somalis!

Norwegian towns saying “NO!” to more refugees

Norway’s Refugee Dilemma!

Holy cow!  It’s not just stunning that many towns are saying NO!, it is stunning that they are even given a choice in Norway of whether they want any refugees at all!    Even with our Constitutional tradition of “States Rights,” American cities and states are not given an opportunity to say to the US State Department—sorry we can’t afford more refugees!

Here is the news from The Nordic Page:

Aftenposten writes that only 64 of the 368 municipalities agreed to accept as many refugees as the government wants. 27 municipalities simply reject, while 204 municipalities receive less than the government has requested. 73 municipalities have not even responded to the request of Integration and Diversity Directorate, IMDI.

Later in the article we learn this about who is going to Norway—mostly Muslim young men.

The refugee and asylum seeker definitions are similar to the ones used by the US.

There are two main groups of refugees who come to Norway. The first group consists of asylum seekers who come to Norway on their own initiative, and the second group consists of resettlement refugees. Resettlement refugees are refugees who cannot return to their home country and cannot be granted residence in the country in which they are staying. Resettlement refugees’ cases are processed by and, they are recognised by, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) before they arrive in Norway. The Norwegian parliament, the Storting, stipulates a quota for the number of resettlement refugees Norway accepts each year.  In 2010, Norway accepted 1,300 resettlement refugees. Most of the 2010 quota was reserved for Eritrean, Afghan, Palestinian, Burmese and Iranian refugees. Minimum 55 per cent were to be women and girls, while 15 per cent of the places were for vulnerable female refugees.

Also, there are asylum seekers who come to Norway on their own initiative and apply for protection from the Norwegian authorities. In the end of September, the Directorate of Immigration (UDI) had received 7,299 asylum applications. Many of these applicants come from countries badly affected by war or previous conflicts. The biggest groups of asylum seekers come from Eritrea, Somalia and Afghanistan. Not everyone who applies for asylum in Norway is entitled to protection or a residence permit.

A total of 163 500 persons with a refugee background were living in Norway on 1 January 2012. These persons accounted for 3.3 per cent of the Norwegian population, and 30 per cent of all immigrants in Norway. The two largest groups were persons with a refugee background from Iraq and Somalia.

Male refugees were overrepresented, with around 10 200 more men than women as at 1 January 2012.
