DOJ Announces Fraud Bust in US Refugee Admissions Program

“It is important to hold accountable those who would seek to defraud such programs, particularly when the crimes compromise our national security and public safety, when they impose such high costs on taxpayers…”

(Acting U.S. Attorney Michael R. Sherwin for the District of Columbia)

Three foreign nationals from Russia, Iraq and Jordan have been charged in stealing information about refugees from the US State Department’s WRAPs data base.

I guess this might explain why the Trump State Department has removed much of the WRAPs data that was available to the public (throwing away the baby with the bath water).

And, this case might explain why the flow of Iraqis to your American towns had slowed dramatically late in the Trump administration.

As we have been saying for over a decade, the US Refugee Admissions Program is filled with fraud and corruption. These three are likely small fish in the overall scheme of things.

From Russia to the Middle East….

Department of Justice last week:

Three Foreign Nationals Charged with Conspiracy to Steal U.S. Government Records and Defraud U.S. Refugee Program

WASHINGTON – An indictment charging three defendants was unsealed in the District of Columbia today.

The indictment charges Aws Muwafaq Abduljabbar, 42; Haitham Isa Saado Sad, 42; and Olesya Leonidovna Krasilova, 43, with conspiracy to steal U.S. government records and to defraud the United States, theft of U.S. government records, and conspiracy to launder money, all related to the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program (USRAP).

[….]

According to the indictment, Sad was employed in Amman, Jordan from 2007 to 2016 by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and Krasilova held a similar position at the U.S. Embassy in Moscow, Russia. Part of their duties included processing applications for refugee resettlement in the United States through the USRAP.

The indictment charges that, from approximately February 2016 until at least April 2019, the three defendants, led by Abduljabbar, conspired to steal U.S. government records related to hundreds of USRAP applications. The records contained sensitive, non-public information about refugee applicants, their family members, their employment and military history, their accounts of persecution or fear of persecution, the results of security checks, and internal assessments by U.S. officials regarding applications.

[….]

As outlined in the indictment, the theft of USRAP records creates a number of risks to public safety and national security while imposing significant costs on the U.S. government, its taxpayers, and otherwise legitimate refugee applicants negatively impacted by the scheme. Defendants Abduljabbar and Sad were previously arrested and remain held without bond. Defendant Krasilova remains at large.

[….]

“Individuals like Ms. Krasilova and Mr. Sad are entrusted to protect the integrity of the U.S. immigration system and sensitive information vital to our national security interests,” said Department of Homeland Security Inspector General Dr. Joseph V. Cuffari. “The Office of Inspector General remains committed to aggressively investigating DHS employees who abuse their positions, betray the public trust, and conspire with persons such as Mr. Abduljabbar to defraud the United States.”

More here.

We will have more to say, but just wanted to get a preliminary story out.

For those with inquiring minds, here is the indictment itself.  (If this doesn’t open, send me a comment to this post and I’ll send it to you directly.)

We expect the Biden administration to be doing a better job of hiring people for this work than Obama did…  Ha!

And, I just came across this cutesy video created as Obama was leaving office explaining to potential refugees the process for admission to the US.  Thought you might find it interesting.

Jewish Open Borders Advocates Lament the Loss of Trump as Punching Bag

This is too funny!  They are worried that they will not be able to whip up a public frenzy to demand more migration to American towns and cities once they have installed their man—Joe Biden—in the White House.

This is just one of many stories I’ve read in recent days in which the Socialist Dems worry that either Biden can’t possibly unwind all of the changes the Trump Administration made to our immigration system that slowed the invasion at the border, increased vetting for refugees, limited refugee numbers to help American low wage workers***, restricted the flow of migrants possibly carrying the Chinese virus, and saw the deportation of criminals who should not have been here.

What will Biden do when this happens? And, it will!

And, they are in a pickle if the flow across the border picks up (it has already started). Images of border wall crashers will be a public relations nightmare for the Biden team. The vast majority of Americans do not want to see an invasion repeat.

If Biden can’t or won’t act quickly to reverse what Trump has done to limit immigration, how on earth are they going to whip up a public frenzy after they destroyed our election system to get their candidate installed in the White House?

Here is a story that had me rolling on the floor laughing….

Let me be clear this is about Leftwing Jews!  Just as there are Leftist Catholics and conservative Catholics, there are many conservative Jews who do strongly support the Trump Administration’s immigration restriction stance.

From The Forward:

Jews rallied behind immigrants under Trump. Will they stop once Biden is president?

Alain Mentha, co-chair of the New Jersey Jewish Coalition for Refugees, watched with dismay last week as the board of Hudson County voted to extend a contract to hold Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainees at the local jail. The board consists entirely of Democrats, many of whom had pledged to stop working with ICE during the Trump presidency, and yet it approved the extension in a 6-3 vote.

Mentha on Twitter https://twitter.com/amentha

Mentha’s frustration with the vote mirrors the concerns of some immigration advocates across the country who were heartened by Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election, but fear it may not be enough to reverse Trump-era policies — especially if the public pressure over the issue dies down.

“I’m very worried, to be honest,” Mentha said in an interview. “I don’t want to be cynical or pessimistic, but I think it’s fair to wonder whether our elected officials are going to become complacent or suffer from inertia.”

Or, is it possible that even Democrat elected officials know that the general public will not tolerate loosening immigration policy!

The Trump administration took more than 400 executive actions over the last four years to break apart and reconstruct the nation’s immigration system, the Migration Policy Institute said in a recent report.

Liberal Jewish groups mobilized in opposition to these changes, which included the practice of separating children from their parents at the Mexican border, and the decision to make asylum-seekers wait in Mexico for their court hearings. Many advocates are optimistic that President-elect Biden will follow through on his campaign promises to reverse these policies, but they also fear that a Democratic administration may not face the same scrutiny that turned arcane border and refugee policy into frontpage news over the last four years.

What they are really saying is that they won’t have the orange monster to beat up (with the help of the media) and how on earth are they going to beat up Biden!

“There is that possibility that in January people feel like, ‘OK, everything is back to normal,’” said Melanie Nezer, a senior vice president at HIAS, the leading Jewish immigrant aid group. “We really have an opportunity here, but it won’t happen without intense pressure.”

Biden has pledged to resettle 125,000 refugees per year, more than in all but seven years since the program began in 1980 and well above average of 70,000 per year under President George W. Bush and 80,000 per year during the Obama administration. The ambitious goal would also be 10 times the 12,000 allowed to enter the United States during the past year.

He has also committed to end the current policy requiring asylum-seekers to await their hearings in Mexico; restore the program that allows undocumented immigrants who arrived in the country as children to receive legal residence; and prioritize the deportation of people who have committed crimes unrelated to their immigration status.

But Nezer said the immigration system has been so thoroughly altered by Trump and his senior adviser, Stephen Miller, that it will take years to repair.  [LOL! She is lowering expectations to protect Biden.–ed]

No kidding!

Mentha said he fears that Biden may not prioritize immigration policy early in his term, as the country continues to grapple with a public health and economic crisis that could make Americans skeptical of allowing in foreigners.

“I’m very concerned that the climate as a whole isn’t very receptive,” he said.

The Forward continues….

The old man makes a controversial pick, Alejandro Mayorkas, a board member of the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. Mark Hetfield is overjoyed about his pal “Ali” is getting the job of unraveling Trump’s immigration policies. https://www.hias.org/news/press-releases/hias-congratulates-board-member-alejandro-mayorkas-dhs-nomination

It’s certainly not all doom and gloom for those active in the Jewish immigration-rights world, most of whom are optimistic about the next four years. Several activists interviewed cited Biden’s nomination of Alejandro Mayorkas, who arrived in the United States as an infant, to serve as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.

Mayorkas, who is on the board of HIAS, comes from a family of Cuban-Jewish refugees. He helped craft DACA while serving in the Obama administration and pledged after his nomination last week to protect “those who flee persecution in search of a better life for themselves and their loved ones.”

More here.

*** Here is one story from recent days about how difficult it is going to be to unwind Trump’s policies.

Refugees under the Obama Administration were coming in in vast numbers to supply low wage workers for big business and the service industry (you know maids and janitors).  But, the Chinese virus crisis has limited those jobs and here we see former Obama refugee honcho make that point:

“There are challenges that were not present during the Obama administration that are going to complicate or present obstacles to expanding the program,” Carey said. “And I think refugees generally enter entry-level jobs in the service industry, and that’s an area that’s been particularly hard hit in the economic downturn.”

So will Biden (if he makes it to the White House!) just bring in larger numbers than we have seen admitted for decades and simply put them all on welfare?

If you are new to RRW, you might want to learn more about the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society. I have an extensive archive on the federal government contractor (taxpayers pay them millions for their ‘work’) that has probably worked the hardest of the nine federal refugee contractors to remove President Trump from the White House.

Michigan: Pakistani Hotel Owner Alleges City Picked on Him for Housing Syrian Refugees

The point you should take away from this story is that in addition to new refugees being illegally housed (newly arriving refugees are required to be placed in their own apartments or homes upon arrival, not placed in hotel rooms) is that the Michigan Lutheran refugee resettlement agency was working with the Muslim hotel owner who the city says was already in violation of fire and other safety codes.

Formerly Lutheran Social Services of Michigan

The Lutheran resettlement agency, Samaritas, is a subcontractor to Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service I wrote about yesterday. Check out that post and see the salaries you pay!

For newcomers to RRW, there are nine federal resettlement agencies largely funded by you, the taxpayers, who work for the US State Department.

Each of those has many subcontractors.  Your money flows through the nine down to hundreds of smaller organizations (like this Michigan subcontractor) making it very confusing for concerned citizens to know who it is that is changing their communities and it makes it almost impossible to follow the money.

(See LIRS other subcontractors below.)

From Detroit Free Press:

(emphasis below is mine)

Sterling Heights hotel in dispute with city alleges anti-Muslim, anti-refugee bias

The owner of a Sterling Heights hotel who is Muslim and of Pakistani descent alleges in a lawsuit filed Monday that city officials targeted and drove him out of business because of his faith and ethnicity and because he had housed about 200 Syrian refugees.

But on the same day, a Macomb County judge ruled against the hotel in a separate lawsuit that had been filed by city against the hotel, agreeing with the city that the hotel had failed to meet safety regulations.

Asad Malik, the owner of Wyndham Garden on 15 Mile and Van Dyke and president of the Pakistani Association of America, says in a lawsuit filed Monday in federal court in Detroit that after he started housing Syrian refugees in 2016, the city started to slap him with citations for violations of fire codes that he said other hotels with similar problems were not receiving. The hotel closed in September.

Malik purchased the hotel in 2014. He is an active member of the Muslim community in metro Detroit as a leader with the Islamic Association of Greater Detroit in Rochester Hills and meets with elected officials who have visited the mosque over the years.

The hotel was “opening her arms to refugees escaping from their war torn country,” his attorney Shereef Akeel, who filed the lawsuit on behalf of Sterling Hotels, told the Free Press. “The last thing you would think is then one of our own cites shutting the door on them. And now, my client has had to pay dearly for their act of generosity.”

The hotel started taking in Syrian refugees in November 2016 [during the big Obama flood of refugees—ed] working with Samaritas, formerly known as Lutheran Social Services of Michigan, which helps resettle refugees.

Malik said he then received an email from the Sterling Heights city manager asking him: “Are there any Syrian refugees being housed at the Wyndham? A resident is alleging such at our council meeting.”

The targeted harassment started after that….

Keep reading to learn more about the complaint.  The fallback position for a certain group of people is to cry DISCRIMINATION!

So where else is LIRS working to change America by changing the people?

This is something I need to do every time I write about a resettlement agency funded by you, in this case Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (the mothership) that passes its case loads to subcontractors like Samaritis.

Here is where you can find out if a refugee agency in your city is affiliated with LIRS.

Below is a screenshot of the full list of subcontractors.  Note how some have dropped the word “Lutheran” from their names.

40 Criminal “Clans” Active in Sweden; Prime Minister Says Integration Not Going Well

I’m writing about Sweden this morning in my ‘Invasion of Europe’ series because it is so interesting to see that after watching Sweden actively committing cultural suicide for more than a decade, law enforcement and political leaders may now be on the same page and admitting they have a problem.

Hey, let’s loot and burn down Sweden say migrants ‘welcomed’ to the naive country. Photo from 2017 story at Breitbart. https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2017/02/21/sweden-cars-torched-looting-riots/

See my Sweden archive which is mostly filled with stories about foolish and naive decisions the quasi-socialist country has been making for more than a decade.

There is a lesson here for us! Sweden is the canary in the coal mine.

First this news (and btw note the use of the word “clan” rather than any mention of the ethnic origins or religion of those who refuse to be Swedish):

Migrant clans have come to Sweden solely to organize crime and obtain power, says national police chief

According to Deputy National Police Chief Mats Löfving, at least about 40 criminal clans are now active in Sweden, and these clans have migrated to Sweden for the purpose of obtaining power, making money, and further expanding their criminal syndicates.

“These clans have come to Sweden solely to organize crime. They work to create power, they have a great capacity for violence, and they want to make money. And they do that through drug crimes, violent crimes, and extortion,” said Löfving, who made remarks during an interview on Ekot’s Saturday program on Swedish Radio.

According to him, the clans have migrated to Sweden to not only to engage in crime but also to raise their children into a life of organized crime.

The police chief said that the increasingly serious gang crime is something the police have long warned about.

“What we are amazed at is that we believe this development was very clear since 2012. In 2015, we developed a method and mapped Sweden regarding these phenomena.

Then see this.

Oopsy! No integration happening!

Golly gee, was Donald Trump right after all!

Löfven’s turn: Connects large migration with the development of crime

The Social Democrats have firmly denied that gang crime can be linked to migration.

Prime Minister Stefan Löfven speaks at rally for refugees in 2015

But in tonight’s hearing in Aktuellt, it sounds different from Stefan Löfven.

– If you have a migration that means in the order of magnitude that you can not cope with the integration then it will be that we get social tensions in a society and that is not good, says Stefan Löfven in the pre-recorded interview.

Stefan Löfven has long said that the issue of gang crime cannot be linked to migration. In SVT’s Agenda in November last year, for example, he firmly said no to the question. The Prime Minister explained that gang crime is due to segregation, social divisions and areas of exclusion.

During the party leader debate in the Riksdag on Wednesday, Stefan Löfven was asked why he did not see the connection between a large immigration and growing crime.

Then Löfven answered:

With a large migration where we can not cope with the integration, then we also follow a greater risk of the problems we see. It’s crystal clear.

And, then he said Donald Trump was right (no! just kidding!).

Don’t miss my post this morning on Sweden and the Chinese virus at ‘Frauds and Crooks.’

Trump Immigration Policy and Chinese Virus Concerns Help Spur NYC Population Decline

But, gee no mention of the riots and crime having a thing to do with it?

I’m not crying for New York City and you likely aren’t either!

The Wall Street Journal is boo-hooing about the reduction in population on-going for NYC. Even the WSJ is into the Trump blame game.

Maybe the city can figure out how to get more African Americans in the workforce there.

Immigration to New York City Declines, Amplifying Economic Concerns

New York City’s economy depends on immigrants, but at a time when it needs all the help it can get, the flow of new residents from overseas is slowing.

Immigration to New York City dropped 45% between 2016 and 2019, with about 34,000 immigrants moving to the city last year compared with 62,000 in 2016, according to an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau population estimates by William Frey, senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. City officials and immigration advocates say tighter federal immigration policies and delays in processing visa applications during the pandemic have reduced the flow of transplants.

Immigrants make up about 45% of the local workforce and own more than half of the city’s businesses, according to a 2019 report by the Mayor’s Office of Immigrant Affairs.

“I am worried that declining rates of international immigration will hurt not only future economic growth in New York City but the stability of New York City’s tax base,” said Michael Hendrix, director of state and local policy at the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank.

Immigration has traditionally offset the departure of New York City residents to other parts of the U.S., according to Frank Donnelly, a geospatial-data librarian at Baruch College. The recent slowdown in arrivals from other countries, however, contributed to an overall drop in the city’s population the last three years.

[….]

President Trump has restricted legal and illegal immigration since taking office, including banning travel from several Muslim-majority countries, reducing the number of refugees allowed to enter the country and imposing a public-charge rule that critics say will prevent immigrants from poor countries from moving to the U.S.

More here.

By the way, you should know that very few refugees have been placed in NYC for a very long time and that is primarily because the resettlement agencies couldn’t find enough cheap housing.
