Refugee News Round-up: First week of March 2021

I thought that one of the most interesting articles this week was this one from Politico where the authors suggest that President Trump has permanently damaged the general publics’ view of refugees.

They suggest that, before Trump, the country loved and welcomed refugees in one big bipartisan lovefest, but now, not so much.

It was a myth that the vast majority of Americans welcomed refugees, what Trump did was to speak about it and make it okay for Americans who feel the same to discuss and debate the issue of whether moving the third world to America benefits Americans.

In other words he gave us all permission to speak (LOL! as he does on many topics.)

One Way Trump May Have Changed Immigration Forever

For decades, U.S. presidents have managed a delicate consensus on taking in refugees. Trump blew it up.

Another piece of information this week is that Biden has so far failed to sign the “emergency” order that would set the ceiling on refugee admissions at 62,500 to arrive in the US by September 30th.

That lack of action has the resettlement contractors*** panties in a wad as refugee flights have been suddenly canceled.

From the Wall Street Journal:

U.S. Refugee Flights Canceled as Record-Low Cap on Admissions Remains

Here we have one of the contractors, the International Rescue Committee, gently chiding their President to get moving to implement the emergency determination.

IRC calls on the Biden Administration to sign an emergency refugee admissions goal for FY21

Then there is the border crisis….

I suspect that the Biden administration is too overwhelmed with the crisis at the border as tens of thousands of migrants are making their way into the country.

Among them are thousands of so-called ‘Unaccompanied Alien Children,’ actually mostly teenagers who come under the care of the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR).

They aren’t really legally defined refugees, but are illegal migrants hoping to prove an asylum case.

Having placed the illegal alien kids (mostly teens) under the care of ORR a number of years ago, the open borders agitators have managed to advance their propaganda about the kids being legit refugees.

Legitimate refugees must prove they are “persecuted” they can’t just be poor and shopping for a new country.

From CBS News:

Biden administration scrambles to expand housing space for migrant children amid sharp increase in border apprehensions

And, from the Daily Beast:

Immigrant Advocates Warn Biden: Don’t Repeat Trump’s ‘Unforgivable Crimes’

Firmly cementing the idea in the public mind that the illegals scrambling across our borders are legitimate refugees, we have a United Nations agency, IOM, helping the migrants enter the US.

From the Federalist:

United Nations Officials Shepherd Migrants Across Southern Border

Back to the US Refugee Admissions Program….

Now, just as I showed you in my round-up last week, fluffy refugee stories are being published in many locations where refugees will be distributed by the contractors.  See my earlier post on locations where refugees are likely to be placed, at least at first.

I’ve been posting some of those puff-pieces at my Refugee Resettlement page on Facebook and they have reached thousands; hundreds have weighed-in with spirited comments.

Will Minnesota be the first Muslim State in America?

One last thing to watch for…

A libertarian think tank is promoting the idea of private sponsorship of refugees.  Now on the surface you might think that is a great idea because the numbers admitted would surely decline because frankly how many people or groups could pull together the enormous amounts of money needed to completely take care of refugee families WITHOUT THE TAXPAYERS.

But that isn’t what they propose.  This new group of privately sponsored refugees would be in addition to the ones that would be admitted through the regular US Refugee Admissions Program where the contractors are paid with your money to resettle refugees.

It is merely an effort to get MORE refugees into the United States.

***For New Readers these are the nine federal refugee contractors who worked to put Biden and Harris in the White House, are lobbying for millions of illegal aliens to be transformed into legal voting citizens, and they have succeeded in getting the new administration to promise to raise the ceiling for refugee admissions to 125,000 for next year FY2022—that is the highest it has been in 29 years.

The 62,500 number is for the remainder of FY21.  FY21 ends in less than 7 months.

They are largely paid by you, the taxpayer, for their work of changing America by changing the people, and in so doing, are putting struggling Americans last!

February 2021: Refugee News Round-up

Refugee industry media has gone into high gear.  As we reported recently, Biden is now aiming for 62,500 refugees to be admitted by the end of this fiscal year—September 30th.

Biden’s New Plans to Boost Refugee Numbers, Wants 62,500 by September 30th

See maps (in below story) where the first waves of new third worlders will be placed.  Later in the Biden administration I expect the contractors*** and the US State Department to spread out to new sites as they overload the existing sites.

During Trump’s Presidency Many Refugee Agency Affiliates Closed

By the way, the maps in the above post do not tell the whole story.  Refugees can be placed within 100 miles of a resettlement office, and at the end of the Obama administration his State Department was working with the contractors to expand offices into about 40 additional locations. Trump’s victory in 2016 killed that plan.

There is limited data available now at the Refugee Processing Center where numbers indicate that they have a long way to go to reach a cap of 62,500 by September 30th.

State Department data shows that as of the end of January (4 months into the fiscal year) only 1,403 refugees were admitted.  They were distributed across three fourths of US states.

Top ‘welcoming’ states are California, Washington, Texas, New York and Illinois (North Carolina is just one refugee behind IL).

Media fluff stories!

Apparently, the word has gone out to all of the subcontractors, who work for the nine federal government resettlement contractors, to gin up the media with fluff stories about the refugees soon to bring the joys of diversity to your towns and cities.

I’ve been posting some of those stories at my Refugee Resettlement page on Facebook and they have reached thousands; hundreds have weighed in with spirited comments.  Over the last 28 days I’ve reached 75,000 people there, so I don’t plan to get off of Facebook until they dump me.

Reminder: Some Posts at ‘Frauds & Crooks’ Overlap with RRW

I’ve written two posts in recent days that could just as easily have been posted here at Refugee Resettlement Watch.  I don’t know how much overlap there is between readers here and my other blog Frauds, Crooks and Criminals, so I thought I should link them here as well.

Some reader comments of late have led me to believe that I might have readers who don’t know that I write at two blogs throughout the week.

If you don’t follow ‘Frauds and Crooks’ here are a few recent posts you might want to see:

At the end of that post I said this about sending comments to either RRW or Frauds & Crooks.

On Comments!

I do see all of your comments since I have to approve them.  They are not automatically posted because you wouldn’t believe the crap that would get through if I didn’t review them.  Sometimes I don’t get to them for a day or so, so don’t be discouraged if you haven’t seen yours posted immediately.

For new readers, I am a blogger, not a group.  I have no staff, I regularly write two blogs, RRW and Frauds, Crooks and Criminals, and I have a life!

It is impossible for me to get to all of your e-mails, so if you really want to send me something that you want to make sure I see, send it as a comment to a post.  You can preface the comment with “NOT FOR PUBLICATION.”  I will see the message within a day that way and it won’t be posted.

Italian Interior Minister Salvini threatens to quit; Australia elects immigration hard-liner; and NY Times says Trump wrong on South Africa white farmers

In the midst of vacation season for many people around the world, the news is anything but dull and quiet.

First an update from Italy on the latest migrant transport ship stalemate.

From The Express:

Italy sparks EU crisis: Brussels calls emergency migrant talks as leader threatens to QUIT

ITALIAN interior minister Matteo Salvini has sensationally threatened to resign over the latest migrant crisis engulfing bloc as the European Commission called an emergency meeting on the issue.

The leader of the right-wing Lega party is at loggerheads with Italian President Sergio Mattarella over whether 177 migrants rescued in the Mediterranean should be able to disembark from the Diciotti ship, which has been left in limbo since docking in Sicilly since Monday.

Salvini turns away another ship
Salvini trying to save his country!

Only 29 unaccompanied minors have been allowed to leave the boat so far.

He has insisted that migrants should only be able to disembark onto Italian soil if other EU allies agree to share the burden with them.

Mr Mattarella is more in favour of letting migrants onto Italian soil for humanitarian reasons and made a rare intervention to end a similar dispute last month by letting 67 migrants disembark from the Diciotti after another rescue mission.

But Mr Salvini has stepped up his opposition to the Italian President’s proposals and will not let him do the same thing again.

In a video message yesterday, he said: “Either you change the country or you change the minister.”

Alexander Winterstein: Priorities like his will be the end of Europe

[….]

European Commission spokesman Alexander Winterstein attempted to calm fears over the latest crisis that threatens to put a wedge between allies across the continent.

In a press briefing on Thursday, he told reporters: “We continue working towards a swift resolution so that people on board can be safely disembarked as soon as possible.

“The priority for everyone should be to ensure these people receive the care they need.”

Moderate Malcolm is out in Australia….

Australia’s new PM is Scott Morrison as moderate Malcolm Turnbull is forced out

Socially conservative architect of hardline asylum policies takes the helm as fifth prime minister in five years

[Since Turnbull is now out, does that mean the “Dumb deal” to take Australia’s rejected asylum seekers to America is dead?—ed]

Australia has a new prime minister in Scott Morrison – the socially conservative architect of Australia’s hardline anti-asylum seeker policies – after he mounted a late challenge during a drawn-out struggle for power in the governing Liberal party.

And then this on South Africa…

I assume you have been following the extensive news accounts coming out of SA about the Communist government there beginning to take farm land without compensation from white farmers.

The New York Times is downplaying that news and once again it (everything in the world!) is all Trump’s fault or in some way connected to him.

white-crosses-sa
Crosses to commemorate the number of farmers murdered in South Africa

I’ve been writing about the decay and the xenophobia in South Africa for years that puts a lie to the Leftwing meme that S.A. is the “Rainbow nation” (implying it welcomes all colors).

It does not and in fact please note that the US is still bringing Somalis and other Africans (not the white refugees!) to your towns and cities as refugees from SA “xenophobia.”  (See my South Africa archive by clicking here.)

Here is the NY Times playing down the latest news…. Trump can never be correct in their eyes!

Trump Cites False Claims of Widespread Attacks on White Farmers in South Africa

CAPE TOWN, South Africa — President Trump waded into South Africa’s proposal to seize land from white farmers, saying in a post on Twitter late Wednesday that he had asked Secretary of State Mike Pompeo to “closely study” the “the large scale killing of farmers” — a claim disputed by official figures and the country’s biggest farmer’s group.

Mr. Trump’s comment came after the Fox News host Tucker Carlson presented a late-night program on South Africa, including land seizures and homicides, and described President Cyril Ramaphosa as “a racist.” [Nothing cuts the Left so much than to call a black leader a racist!—ed]

The tweet gives prominence to a false narrative [this is a news story, not an editorial!—ed] pushed by some right-wing groups in South Africa that there have been numerous seizures of white-owned land and widespread killings of white farmers. Some of those groups have brought their claims to the United States on lobbying trips.

NYT! Your bias is showing!

Just imagine if some Leftist ‘humanitarian’ NGO was bringing claims of genocide of blacks in Africa to America, would the NYT refer to their efforts as merely “lobbying trips?”  Never in a million years.

Then this! The government is only taking “unused land.”

The government has said expropriating farms is necessary to deal with longstanding inequities and that only unused land would be subject to seizure, suggesting that land that is being actively farmed would be safe.

And whew, the NYT goes on—-the numbers of farmers killed is down to 47 this past year, while in the previous year it was 66 who were murdered working the land.  I guess to the NYT, over 100 killed in 2 years doesn’t constitute “widespread killings.”

The International Left (through house organs like the NYT) must at all costs keep the myth of the black run South Africa as the Rainbow Nation alive!

Stories of killings to drive out white landowners must be squelched!

Read it all here.

Out of town….
