MD Governor O’Malley pleaded with White House: Don’t send them to WESTERN Maryland

They used to be good pals! Hmmmm! http://www.wjla.com/articles/2014/07/o-malley-obama-administration-spar-over-immigration-policies-105157.html

I’m posting this for a couple of reasons, first, because you are going to hear the name Martin O’Malley a lot in the coming months and years—he wants to be the next Progressive occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, and second because we need a good laugh sometimes.

Last week we reported that a site in western MD —Westminster in Carroll County—had been identified as a potential new home for a couple of hundred illegal alien “minors.”  Locals caught wind of the plan and knowing conservative activists here there would have been a demonstration on par with anything Murietta, CA could produce.

In fact, a clip of Carroll County Commissioner Richard Rothschild (highly critical of the plan) was featured on the O’Reilly Factor last evening.  Rothschild said about his call to HHS:

“I want to point out that HHS, I asked HHS what are you going to do if these children can’t find their parents? Are you going to keep them imprisoned in this compound? No answers.”

Surely O’Malley, with his Presidential aspirations, didn’t relish the optics of a Murietta-style uprising on his home turf.  He did tell the White House that other locations in the state would be o.k.

Maryland has a well-established refugee resettlement program and one of the big nine*** federal contractors—Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service—is located in the upscale area known as the Inner Harbor.   Not to mention the fact that the notorious Casa de Maryland (The illegals ACORN) is undoubtedly itching to get its paws into some federal “refugee” loot—-for the “children.”   See one of our many posts on Casa de Maryland (Sandinistas, El Salvador and the Sanctuary Movement).

The ‘unaccompanied alien minors’ are surely already being brought to “welcoming” Maryland.

From CNN (Hat tip: Jeff).  Emphasis is mine:

(CNN) – After his strong criticism of the Obama administration’s plans to return thousands of young undocumented migrants back to Central America, Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley asked a top White House official that the children not be sent to a site that was under consideration in his home state, sources familiar with the conversation said.

“He privately said ‘please don’t send these kids to Western Maryland,'” a Democratic source told CNN. The heated discussion between O’Malley and White House domestic policy adviser Cecilia Munoz occurred during a phone call late Friday evening, sources familiar with the conversation added.

Earlier O’Malley criticized the White House for using the ‘deportation’ word!

A potential Democratic presidential candidate in 2016, O’Malley surprised some in his party when he sharply criticized a White House proposal to give new legal authorities to the Department of Homeland Security to expedite the deportation of the unaccompanied minors and their families.

“We are not a country that should turn children away and send them back to certain death,” O’Malley said last week at a National Governors Association meeting in Nashville.

Instead, the governor urged the administration to show compassion toward the children, describing some of the facilities where the young detainees are being kept as “kennels.”

LOL! Then the Obama Administration picked a potential location in RED Western Maryland to house a number of the illegal aliens and O’Malley had to beg for relief.

Hours after making those remarks, O’Malley expressed concerns to Munoz about a proposal under consideration by the Department of Health and Human Services to convert a former Army Reserve Center in Westminster, Maryland to house the children.

A senior O’Malley administration official confirmed the conversation took place. But the official stressed O’Malley did not reject the idea of temporarily housing some of the children in other parts of the state.

Now, I bet you are wondering how this embarrassing  story about a private phone call between O’Malley and Munoz leaked to CNN.  I’m placing my bets on Valerie Jarrett slapping O’Malley down a peg or two.  Why?  Is she already working on some other Presidential candidate’s campaign?

Just as I finished this, I see there is another good story about the rift and the leak, here at WJLA.

***The contractors (we may have to start adding Baptist Children and Family Services to our list):

OMG! Obama Adminstration awards hundreds of millions in grants to Texas Baptist group!

Surely you heard the news today about the Texas hotel that Baptist Child and Family Services was supposed to be buying to house ‘unaccompanied minors,’ but the deal fizzled when the media discovered it.

We reported yesterday on federal contractor BCFS.  Their income in previous years is chump-change compared to what they are getting this year!

Now check out Gateway Pundit today on the story.  They link Tracking Accountability in Government Grants.  Open the link and it will blow your mind!   Just last week BCFS was awarded $190,707,505.  But, that is only one of about 14 awards of over a million dollars each this year alone.

Forget Halliburton!  The illegal alien care industry is booming, but in this racket the players get to wear the white hat of humanitarian ‘voluntarism’ while raking in the government grants.

Get this!  BCFS was in on the meeting with Obama in Texas last week (BCFS is the contractor at Lackland Air Force Base that told medical personnel to keep their mouths shut), but reading this story in which Obama praised the faith group “volunteers” you would have no idea that BCFS was being paid handsomely for its work!

Also attending the meeting was Kevin Dinnin, president of Baptist Child & Family Services, a BGCT-related agency providing care for children housed at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Some real investigative reporter needs to dig into this story because something stinks.

2nd Tennessee alert on border surge and what citizens need to do!

Editor:  Every day since we posted the first action alert from Tennessee citizen activists who want to make sure the ‘unaccompanied minors’ now surging across the Texas border don’t end up in Tennessee, it has been our Top Post every day (see right hand sidebar for Top Posts).

This is a follow-up alert for Tennesseans which readers in other states might use as a model.  Tell your elected officials wherever you live—no illegal alien drops in your state!

And, tell them to suspend all other refugee resettlement in FY2014 and FY2015 until the border crisis is resolved.

2nd ALERT Re: Border Surge and Tennessee – New Information

Refugee resettlement contractors say don’t give their money to the children. They want the money for their businesses! These contractors are paid to bring refugees to Tennessee.

This year Congress increased funding for refugee resettlement contractor business to $1.489 billion, an increase from last year’s $1.12 billion but still short the additional $1.6 billion that refugee contractors demanded.

Federal refugee contractors like the TN Office for Refugees (TOR) operating in Tennessee, are complaining that the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) may use some of the contractors’ money to help the children crossing the border. TOR says that if their money is reduced they won’t be able to help the refugees they have brought to Tennessee. To date, there has been no suggestion by TOR that they would reduce the number of people they plan to bring to the State.

The federal contractors have been directed by their leadership to lobby Congress for more money, which in part is why Pres. Obama’s original request of $2 billion in emergency spending for the border is now $3.7 billion. If Congress approves this request, the illegals will get to stay and TOR will get all its money. Why shouldn’t the contractors get to save their cake and eat it too?

A high percentage of minors are trying to reunite with family members living in the U.S. who may not be here legally. In 2013, President Obama directed immigration agents to try not to deport illegal immigrant parents in the U.S. who have minor children. The refugee contractors are paid to unite the minors with anyone claiming kinship regardless of whether that person is in the country legally.

Once these minors are released, they must attend public school. In Tennessee, K-12 education and all services including breakfast and lunch programs, must be provided. Under certain circumstances, TennCare must pay for their emergency medical care. Will Tennessee schools also have to ban the American flag to avoid offending non-citizens?

Eventually, the illegal minors are supposed to appear for an immigration hearing. Of the $3.7 billion Obama has requested, approximately $15 million would pay lawyers to represent the minors at their hearings. The ACLU has already sued to make sure the minors have lawyers, citing a report that says that immigrants with lawyers are five times more likely to win their cases than those who represent themselves.

On July 12th, Rep. Marsha Blackburn visited the Ft. Sill relocation facility in Oklahoma where approximately 1,100 illegal minors are housed. Is she considering a recommendation for TN?

Pals yuk it up on Inauguration Day 2013: Harry Reid, Lamar Alexander, Chuck Schumer and Barack Obama. http://abcnews.go.com/meta/search/imageDetail?format=plain&source=http://abcnews.go.com/images/US/ap_inauguration_ip_002_130121

Tennessee’s political establishment including Gov. Haslam, Lt. Gov Ron Ramsey and Speaker Beth Harwell and Tennessee’s Republicans in D.C. except Rep. DeJarlais, signed on as co-chairs of Lamar Alexander’s reelection campaign.

They agreed to help Lamar after he voted for amnesty.

Contact the D.C. politicians and tell them that if they plan to help the minors, then:

• TOR and other federal contractors must accept a reduction in federal money and suspend further FY2014 resettlement in Tennessee.

• Federal contractors must suspend all other FY2015 refugee resettlement until the border surge issues are resolved. Every year the U.S. resettles approximately 140,000 refugees and asylees; estimates of border crossers will well exceed these totals.

Handy timeline of the border invasion

Reader Bruce sent us this great timeline prepared by the blog—The Last Refuge.  Someone did a lot of work!

I would just like to add a 2004 “backgrounder” by Don Barnett published by the Center for Immigration Studies.  We posted on Barnett’s report last month, here.  The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) in Health and Human Services and their contractors knew for some time that the rush on the border was coming.

In fact, in June of last year we attended a Pennsylvania meeting of the ORR and its contractors and they were predicting large numbers of ‘unaccompanied alien children’ in future years.  I wondered what they knew that we didn’t know.

The contractors are paid to either care for the children in contractor-run facilities or find them foster care (here is just one such attempt to find foster care).

Addendum:  Just so I don’t lose this link, here are some more stats on the cost and other stats from ORR via News5.

Ethiopian Community Development Council testifies that ‘unaccompanied minors’ crisis could lead to the demise of refugee resettlement program

The Ethiopian Community Development Council (ECDC) is one of the nine top refugee contractors*** used by the US State Department and Health and Human Service’s Office of Refugee Resettlement to bring third-worlders to your towns and cities.

Tsehaye Teferra President of ECDC. You pay his salary. http://www.ecdcus.org/About_Us/Our_Staff.html

They too testified about Obama’s request for big bucks for the “vulnerable children,” but their testimony clearly shows they are concerned for their own budget.    They don’t appear to have a role in the care of the ‘chiiiilldrunnn’ as do some of their fellow contractors, so they need to hold on to their federal funds for the normal flow of refugees they resettle.

As we have reported previously, the Catholics, the Lutherans, and some of the other contractors stand to see a financial windfall from the border crisis.

Check out ECDC’s testimony to the Senate here.  They see the possibility of the ruin of the normal refugee resettlement program if more taxpayer money is not forthcoming.  They also want to be sure that HHS/ORR doesn’t commingle the millions as they flow in from the US Treasury.

ECDC is very concerned over the current funding crisis at ORR that will cause extremely detrimental consequences for refugees resettled in the United States and the communities that embrace them, and may even lead to the demise of the U.S.Refugee Resettlement Program as we know it.

By the way, ECDC is smaller than many of the other contractors.  Check out their most recent Form 990 by clicking here.   Page 9 is where they hide the government grants (it used to be on page one!).  They had an income of $14,959,325 and $14,609,687 came from you!  Over 99% of their budget comes from US taxpayers!

All of our coverage, going back several years, of the ‘unaccompanied minors’ crisis is archived here.
