Swiss to “welcome” more Syrian refugees; UK Syrian resettlement stalled; critics silent on Obama record

Tiny Switzerland is now working overtime to destroy itself with an overload of migrants, while the UK is hanging tough (so far) and not opening its doors to large numbers of Sunni Muslims from Syria.  Meanwhile the US has admitted (thankfully) only a few hundred impossible-to-screen Syrians, but critics are silent on the Obama record (when Bush didn’t immediately admit Iraqi refugees they were all screaming like banshees!).

So what country is conspicuously missing? Are Amnesty International and the UNHCR afraid of criticizing America’s first black President? http://www.mintpressnews.com/%E2%80%8Buk-offers-just-90-places-for-syrian-refugees-abject-failure-says-amnesty-international/201909/

Here is the story from Switzerland.  Only the Swiss People’s Party is standing against the latest decision:

The Swiss cabinet agreed in principle on Friday to welcome an additional 3,000 Syrian refugees to Switzerland over the course of the next three years.

[….]

The first batch of 1,000 refugees are scheduled for this year and the cabinet will reassess the situation in Syria in autumn.

The Swiss plan for hosting Syrian refugees will follow two pathways. One will involve taking in 2,000 refugees as part of a sustainable resettlement programme that will take place over several years. This will be similar to a pilot project launched in 2013 in which Syrian refugees were granted asylum without having to go through the standard asylum process.

The other pathway involves granting 1,000 humanitarian visas for close relatives (spouses and minor children) of Syrians who have already been provisionally admitted into Switzerland.

Amnesty International blasts UK Syrian resettlement as “abject failure.”

Read all about it here and see that the US is not blasted by Amnesty International.

Indeed, it is the strangest thing! Amnesty and the UN are silent on the fact that the US has not (mercifully for us) taken more than a few hundred Syrians since the conflict began.

Czech Republic: Low turnout for pro-refugee rally

Apparently Amnesty International ginned-up the rally to pressure the government to accept 1,000 Syrian refugees.

Pro-refugee demonstrators in Prague last week.

When you consider that the US plan to resettle 9,000-10,000 has now stalled on news that the FBI says it is virtually impossible to screen Syrian refugees for terrorist connections, 1,000 is a huge number for a small country to screen and absorb.   In fact, the US has taken in only 249 Syrians this fiscal year which is 4 months old, and it is unlikely that, at that rate, even one thousand will be resettled in the US this fiscal year.

From PraguePost.com:

Prague, Feb 20 (ČTK) — About 150 people attended a meeting that was held in the center of Prague in protest against racism and xenophobia and in support of the Czech acceptance of refugees, mainly from the war-afflicted Syria.

The rally, whose motto was Refugees, welcome, was addressed by several speakers who condemned xenophobia and racism. The participants also observed a minute of silence in honour of the killed Syrians who failed to flee their homeland.

The demonstrators then walked through the centre of Prague, carrying banners and chanting slogans.

[….]

The demonstrators were invited to sign a petition launched by Amnesty International and demanding the acceptance of 1,000 Syrian refugees by Prague.

I have to say, it is the most curious thing to me that groups like Amnesty are not criticizing Obama.  Most of the refugee contractors and other Open Borders groups expected the Obama Administration to take more than 10,000 last year.

Syrian refugees: UK beat down, but where is the beat down of Obama?

There is something really really strange going on!

Either the United Nations, Amnesty International or the myriad members of the NGO humanitarian gang can’t bring themselves (yet!) to criticize America’s first black President, or Obama has another surprise coming for our citizens already disgusted with his open door policy to migrants of every stripe.

(Despite letters from Members of Congress, here, Obama could at any time expand refugee resettlement of Syrians claiming an emergency! Is that the next shoe to drop?)

The largest resettlement country in the world—the US—is missing and not a peep in any of the news reports on Amnesty’s latest guilt-trip report.

Why is the US left out of any blasts (like this one) coming from groups such as Amnesty International, entitled:  UK offers just 90 places for Syrian refugees! Abject failure says Amnesty?

From Russia Today:

As Syrians continue to face the horrors of war and displacement, the UK government has failed in welcoming its “fair share” of Syrian refugees in urgent humanitarian need, a damning report warns.

The 24-page report, entitled ‘Hardship, Hope and Resettlement: Refugees from Syria tell their stories,’ was published by Amnesty International on Wednesday.

Germany is asking for further destabilization:

While Germany has set a positive example by resettling 30,000 refugees, other European states have failed to open their doors sufficiently, Amnesty warns.

Britain has offered a paltry 90 places, while Denmark and Spain have offered 140 and 130 respectively.

[….]

Over the next three years, the British government is expected to resettle several hundred Syrians in the UK.

This contrasts sharply with UN recommendations.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) is urging governments worldwide to offer 130,000 resettlement places to Syrian refugees in the next 12 months alone.

Here is another report on the story which tells us something we already knew, but not a peep about the US.

The six Gulf Cooperation Council countries have offered no places to Syrian refugees since the onset of the conflict.

No complaints about the US here either.  However, lots of complaints against the Canadian government for saying it will take religious minorities over Muslims!  Those Islamic Caliphate expanders at the UN and in the international Left are fuming over that!  Canada is “discriminating” they say!

Numbers are out! through the first of February (4 months into fiscal year 2015)!

The US has admitted 249 Syrians this fiscal year (compared to thousands and thousands of Somalis and Iraqis). Homeland Security and the State Department are definitely foot-dragging, but why?

Rich nations not doing enough for Syrian refugees says Amnesty International

In advance of tomorrow’s United Nations “pledging conference,” Amnesty International took aim at most of the countries in the world for not taking in Syrian refugees.

Every time I see a story like this one, I look for what they are saying about the US and I continue to be amazed by the silence.  Are they protecting Obama (if this were the Bush Administration they would be tar and feathering him)?  The US has only taken a small number of Syrians (so far) and for that we are grateful, but why is the US conspicuously not mentioned.

King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia: Why would we want to take any of those Syrians (or Iraqis or Afghans or Somalis)? Let Obama do it! The US Muslim population is the one we are building. Photo: http://foreignpolicynews.org/2014/03/28/president-obama-meets-king-abdullah-saudi-arabia/

Or, do they know something we don’t know (yet).

They do blast Russia, China, most of Europe and the GULF ARAB STATES (which includes Saudi Arabia) which take zero refugees.

From Alarabiya:

Amnesty International warned Friday of the “catastrophic consequences” of failing to offer protection to Syrian refugees being “left out in the cold” a week after the World Food Program (WFP) said it was suspending aid to exhausted funding.

About 3.8 million Syrian refugees are currently scattered across five main host countries in the region, of which only 1.7 percent have been “offered sanctuary” by the rest of world since Syria’s civil war erupted in 2011, the Amnesty report said.

The report, “Left Out in the Cold: Syrian refugees abandoned by the international community,” said Syria’s most vulnerable refugees include unaccompanied children, alleged survivors of torture, and people with severe medical conditions.

“The shortfall in the number of resettlement places for refugees offered by the international community is truly shocking,” said Sherif Elsayed-Ali, Amnesty International’s Head of Refugee and Migrants’ Rights, in a statement.

“Nearly 380,000 people have been identified as in need of resettlement by the U.N. refugee agency, yet just a tiny fraction of these people have been offered sanctuary abroad,” he said.

[….]

Russia, China and Gulf states have “failed to pledge a single resettlement place” for Syrians, while the European Union (EU), with the exclusion of Germany, has only pledged to “resettle a paltry of 0.17 percent of refugees in the main host countries,” according to the report.

[….]

Amnesty International’s report was released only a few days ahead of a U.N. pledging conference due to take place in Geneva on Dec. 9.

What do you think the odds are that if the UNHCR offered Syrians a new home in China or Russia they would actually take it?

Brits take a beating from “rights” group over decision to not fund rescue of migrant invaders from North Africa

Kate Allen, UK Director of Amnesty International: “….dark day for the moral standing of the UK.” Photo: http://www.amnesty.org.uk/blogs/kate-allen

The UK attempts to slow invasion of Europe….

(See our entire ‘invasion of Europe’ series including posts on the boat people problem by clicking here.  Thousands of mostly Muslim aliens have been rescued by the Italian navy and then sneak out of Italy and spread throughout Europe.)

We reported the incredible news from brave Brits the other day—the UK does not want to participate in the rescue of illegal aliens who find themselves in trouble while attempting to break into Europe by sea.  They say that such efforts serve as a “pull factor” for more and more aliens to try to make the dangerous voyage.

But, they surely will be taking a drubbing from the ‘human rights industrial complex’ as we see just beginning here at the news site for the UNHCR:

Thousands more refugees are at risk of perishing in the Mediterranean, human rights groups have warned, as Italy cancels its emergency naval rescue operation.

Rome’s Mare Nostrum mission, which saved 150,000 people fleeing poverty and warzones in Africa in the past 12 months, will be wound down, its budget slashed by two thirds in the two-month phase-out period.

Instead, Europe’s border protection agency, Frontex, launches its Triton operation to help monitor and patrol the waters off the Italian coastline, with resources of just €3m a month – a third of what the Italian navy has been spending in the past year.

“No matter how it is dressed up, Triton is not a search and rescue operation,” said Nicolas Beger of Amnesty International’s European Institutions Office. “As the world faces the worst refugee crisis since the Second World War, the EU must urgently and collectively… plug the imminent gap in these life-saving operations.”

Britain’s refusal to contribute to the scaled-down replacement operation was also decried. “This is a very dark day for the moral standing of the UK,” said Amnesty UK Director Kate Allen. “The Italian navy’s… operation has saved thousands of lives and other European countries should now be stepping up to share that responsibility with them, not shirk it.”
