Note to readers:  I started this post two days ago which is an eternity in the on-going back and forth in Australia over the illegal alien boat people seeking asylum, so by now this may not be the latest news.  However, it is still worth posting because Americans, just for a moment, imagine having a political leader who speaks as frankly as Abbott!

Australia is ahead of America in coming to the crisis point on immigration (both parties want to curb it because the voting public has had it!).

In the upcoming election, what to do about the boat people arriving by the thousands and asking for asylum is, as far as I can tell, THE pivotal issue in determining who will be the next Prime Minister.

Labor Prime Minister Keven Rudd recently instituted the PNG plan, go here for our coverage, and now the opposition coalition has a potentially more effective plan.

Those determined to be legitimate asylum-seekers will be regularly reviewed and eventually returned to their home country when things calm down there—they will never be given permanent residency in Australia.  That should slow the flow!

Here is the story at the Brisbane Times.  It is a long article and I’ve just selected a few bits that interest me and might encourage you to read the whole thing.

The Coalition has ramped up its hardline stance on refugees, announcing on Friday that almost 32,000 asylum seekers who have already arrived in Australia by boat will never get permanent settlement as well as stripping them of the right to appeal to the courts.

The Coalition would also introduce indefinite work-for-the-dole obligations for those found to be refugees.

Opposition Leader Tony Abbott channelled former prime minister John Howard from 2001 when announcing the change to the policy in Melbourne.

”The essential point is, this is our country and we determine who comes here,” Mr Abbott said.

Boat people will NEVER be granted permanent residency!

According to Department of Immigration figures compiled last Friday, 31,986 asylum seekers are either in the community on bridging visas, in community detention, in mainland detention centres or on Manus Island and Nauru.

Mr Morrison and Mr Abbott said on Friday that a Coalition government would deny them the right to ever settle in Australia, creating a crucial point of difference between the two parties, now united on stopping the boats.

As part of the toughened policy, a Coalition government will scrap the right of asylum seekers to appeal to the courts, which in the March quarter brought the number of asylum seekers who were granted refugee status from 65.3 per cent to more than 90 per cent.

Deputy Opposition Leader Julie Bishop said that on the contrary, the Coalition’s policy took away the people smugglers’ ”product” – which was permanent residency in Australia.

”We won’t be offering permanent residency,” she told Channel 9. ”When the situation improves [in asylum seekers’ home countries], they can go home.”

Germany (and Europe) doomed to repeat history?

But, the tables are turned.  This time the invaders are not the Germanic tribes, the Vandals and Goths and others of the barbarian hordes which helped bring down the mighty Roman Empire, they are Africans and Middle Easterners, mostly Muslims (Chechens too), who have a different sort of invasion in mind.

This is just one more ‘EU-struggling’ story in a long list of stories in recent days and weeks about the European Union being overwhelmed by ‘refugees’, member countries squabbling, and about the UN criticizing the EU for not being “welcoming” enough to the invading armies.

Germany, however, is taking offense to charges they are not generous enough and officials there report that, get this:

Germany is set to take 100,000 refugees this year!  Can anyone say death wish!

Schröder (Ole Schröder, a state secretary in Germany’s Interior Ministry),said Germany’s program is pointing the way forwards for European refugee protection. “We have asked the European Commission to introduce a similar protection program. Unfortunately, the Commission hasn’t done so. But Germany is taking the lead,”said Ole Schröder.

All in all, Germany plans to take in 100,000 refugees from all across the world until the end of this year.

“We can’t take in millions of people,” Schröder said. “That would overstrain Germany’s capacities.”  [duh! 100,000 won’t overstrain Germany?–ed]

The capacities of the EU’s Mediterranean countries are already overstrained. Malta, Cyprus, Italy, Greece, as well as Hungary and Bulgaria have problems in dealing with refugees who want to enter the EU from both the Middle East and Africa, according to UNHCR. Human rights groups have repeatedly criticized the European Union for fencing itself in and disrespecting its international obligations when it comes to protecting refugees.

See our Europe category where we have posted 427 previous posts on the terrible predicament in Europe.  I know I don’t have to tell you, but I post about Canada, Europe and Australia so that readers in America know the global extent of the problem, especially from countries that are ‘ahead of us’ in taking the spear of the asylum invasion.  We aren’t far behind as this Mexico border stunt news illustrated.

Germany (again!): Is “sugar on the table” drawing Chechens?

German officials are scratching their heads about why the recent large numbers of Russians from Chechnya (homeland of the Boston Bombers) are coming to Germany seeking asylum.  See also “tensions rising” in German cities.

I was looking for a map that shows how far Chechnya is from Germany and this is the best I could find. If the ‘asylum-seekers’ went by land, and were truly desperate asylum-seekers, they would have traveled through many “safe” countries where they should have legally sought asylum BEFORE arriving in Germany (west of the circled Czech Republic).

From the BBC:

The number of people seeking political asylum in Germany has soared, and the biggest group by far was from Russia.

In the first half of this year, just over 43,000 refugees applied to stay – that is 86% more than in the same period in 2012.

It is the highest level since 1999, when people fled Serbia’s Kosovo war.

Many this year came from Russia’s Chechnya region, they told German officials. Violence and human rights abuses plague Chechnya.

German Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich said that “in 2012, by far the most asylum seekers in the European Union came to Germany, and in the first half of 2013 we saw almost a doubling of applications.

“The number of asylum seekers in the first half of 2013 was the greatest since the same period in 1999.”

According to the interior ministry, 9,957 people came from Russia and claimed political asylum in Germany, compared with 4,517 from Syria and 3,448 from Afghanistan.  [I’m sure Putin is thrilled to be relieved of them!—ed]

Perplexed analysts!

The figures for refugees from Chechnya are perplexing analysts because there has not been a perceptible deterioration of the situation there. No worsening of a vicious war has been reported in the North Caucasus republic.

Germany put the “sugar on the table!”   (A commenter used that phrase recently and I love it!)

Seems that a logical explanation is that Germany offers asylum-seekers/refugees more taxpayer-funded goodies, and that is the draw.  However, for Muslims it’s a twofer, they can fulfill their Muslim duty (Al-Hijra) by helping to build the Islamic caliphate and live fairly well doing it!

The BBC continues:

One theory being mooted in ministries to explain the surge is that, exactly a year ago, Germany’s highest court ruled that asylum seekers waiting for their applications to be processed should receive the same social benefits as Germans.

That led to higher payments for food and accommodation, as the different regions of Germany implemented the court’s strictures.

Svetlana Gannushkina, a leading human rights activist in Russia, says Chechens appear to have been motivated by rumours that Germany “has opened its doors to Chechens”.

In an e-mail to the BBC, she said “a rumour is circulating that in Germany each family is given a parcel of land and money to build a house”.

Update August 18th:  A reader sent us this story from Der Spiegel about the “rumor” and the ramifications.  People are desperate to leave Chechnya now being ruled by hard-line Islamists according to this story.

Swiss asylum-seeker controversy brings world-wide attention

This is an update of a story we posted last week about how some towns in Switzerland with detention facilities nearby, fearing crime, are restricting the movement of the ‘asylum-seekers’ from mostly Muslim countries.

This is from AFP and posted at Fox News, but the story is being reported in a whole host of media outlets.

Swiss citizen:  If they don’t like our laws they can go somewhere else or back to the country they came from!

Switzerland is one of the countries in Europe that welcomes the most asylum seekers in proportion to its population, with some 48,000 people currently in the process of applying for asylum in the small Alpine nation, including 28,631 who arrived in 2012 — the highest number since 1999.   [Welcomes!  Reporters world-wide have fallen for their lingo!—-ed]

Amid the recent spike in refugees, Switzerland has been rushing to open a slew of temporary asylum centres.

But the Swiss public, which in June overwhelmingly voted to tighten the country’s asylum laws, often resist the creation of such centres in their neighbourhoods.   [Where have we heard this before?  Oh yeh!  Germany!—ed]

Szoelloesy acknowledged that four of the 10 communities asked to host new centres since last year had been granted the right to set up “sensitive areas”, like Bremgarten, to help avoid “bad feelings” towards the asylum seekers.

Don’t like it here?  Leave!

“To tell you the truth, I think that if they are not satisfied with the laws in the country that is housing them they would be better off returning to their countries or going elsewhere,” young Solothurn local Maria told RTS.

Jamaica: Something fishy about Syrian couple’s story as they ask for asylum

Stories similar to this one come and go across my desk from time to time and most I have no time to mention.  This one caught my eye for a couple of reasons.  First, the Jamaica news account lists the countries the pair traveled through before reaching Jamaica.  International refugee law requires that legitimate “asylum seekers” ask for asylum in the first safe country in which they land—not skip across the globe ‘shopping’ for asylum.

Thus, by the way, those other than Mexicans who presented themselves at the US border last week, here, should have sought protection in the first country they arrived in that was not the country that had “persecuted” them.

And, the second troubling thing about this story is that the Jamaica report says the couple was headed to the US, but a Cayman Island report says they arrived earlier in the Caymans from the US!

Here are the pertinent parts of the story from Jamaica’s The Gleaner:

A Syrian couple who arrived from the Cayman Islands, en route to the United States early August, has asked for asylum in Jamaica.

Responding to queries from The Sunday Gleaner, the Ministry of National Security last week identified the couple as Fadi Al Lababidi and Hayat Hejazi.

“They arrived in Jamaica from the Cayman Islands on Sunday, August 4, but were denied permission to land,” the ministry said.

The Sunday Gleaner understands that Jamaican immigration officials became suspicious after the two were found to be carrying Syrian passports, with both having the same January 1 birthday.

Check out their travel itinerary!  No immigration and customs official in all those countries saw anything amiss??? And, imagine the cost of those flights!

According to the ministry (Jamaica Ministry of National Security), the couple’s itinerary indicated that they “travelled from Syria to Beirut, Moscow, Havana, and Grand Cayman and from there to Kingston. They stated that they did not seek asylum in Lebanon or Russia because they felt these countries were friendly with the Syrian government”.

The ministry said arrangements have been made to accommodate the couple while the Refugee Eligibility Committee makes the determination of their status.

LOL!  I wonder if they were part of the orchestrated US asylum claimers and got lost along the way.

Came from the US?

Adding to the mystery is that the Cayman Islands paper says they left the US!  One thing is for sure, immigration in the Cayman Islands did not initially detect the pair as frauds and allowed them to proceed to Jamaica.

(CNS): A Syrian couple who managed to get through the Cayman Islands on what appear to be forged passports are claiming asylum in Jamaica, the local press is reporting. Jamaica’s Ministry of National Security has revealed that Fadi Al Lababidi and Hayat Hejazi arrived in Cayman from the United States early this month before they then flew from this jurisdiction to Jamaica on Syrian passports, both of which carried the same 1 January birth date.  Immigration officials in the neighbouring country were suspicious and the couple were denied permission to land after claiming they had reservations at a Kingston hotel, which proved not to be true.

Who are these two?  Perhaps doing a test run!
