IOM: Mediterranean migrant ships won't stop until Europe finds ways to let them come legally

Sheesh! The International Organization for Migration (IOM) yesterday said, don’t stop the boats and the boat people from Africa and the Middle East, find ways for them to migrate legally to Europe. (See former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott tell the Europeans to turn back the boats, here.)

The IOM was for years a quasi-non-profit organization (getting most of its money from governments) and a US refugee contracting agency whose job it was, and still is, to get refugees ready to fly to your towns and cities. You will see refugees in US airports with blue IOM bags.
Now the agency has been folded in to the United Nations and it is one more reason to sever our ties with the UN!
Here, yesterday, they reported on the number of illegal migrants who have arrived in Europe in 2016.

Switzerland – IOM on Friday (06/01) reported preliminary totals for all 2016 migrant and refugee arrivals to Europe via the Mediterranean Sea, as well as estimated fatalities. Arrival totals were 363,348 split almost evenly between Italy and Greece, with much smaller numbers arriving in Malta, Cyprus and Spain. Fatalities and missing migrants reached at least 5,079 although IOM emphasizes that some incidents reported in the month of December and earlier have not been fully accounted for.

According to IOM’s Missing Migrants Project, incidents off Spain, Morocco and Tunisia have been reported whose victim totals could add another 300 or more fatalities to the 2016 total. The year 2016 already is the deadliest for migrants ever recorded by IOM in the region.

The probable addition of several hundred more fatalities recorded in 2016 only deepens the tragedy, said IOM Director General William Lacy Swing, who added, Europe’s frustration with a seemingly endless cycle of migrant rescue followed by reports of shipwrecks and more drownings won’t end until governments throughout the region find a way to manage migration comprehensively.

“Migrants and refugees aren’t coming because they believe their lives will be rescued at sea once they leave Africa or Syria or wherever conflicts drives people to seek safety,” Ambassador Swing said. “They’re leaving because they believe their lives will be doomed if they stay. The answer lies in finding creative means to permit safe, legal and secure migration, be that through work visas, family reunification or temporary protected status. [UNHCR is searching for “alternative pathways” to move the third world to the first since most of these migrants are not legitimate refugees.—ed] Instead of doubling down on tactics that don’t work, let’s use this New Year to try something that’s actually new.”

European border agency accuses NGOs of helping people smugglers

Ten days ago we told you about the non-governmental organization ships being sent out in the Mediterranean to intercept the boats packed with African and Middle Eastern migrants attempting to get to Europe. Now we have news that Frontex, the EU’s border protection agency, is actually claiming that there is collusion between the traffickers and the NGOs.

The European Union’s (EU) border agency Frontex has accused major charities of colluding with criminal gangs to bring migrants into Europe.

Frontex put its concerns about charities working in the Mediterranean in a confidential report written last month, and seen by the Financial Times. The document said migrants had been given “clear indications before departure on the precise direction to be followed in order to reach the NGOs’ boats.”

Frontex was more explicit in its concern over non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in the Mediterranean in another report last week, which stated: “First reported case where the criminal networks were smuggling migrants directly on an NGO vessel.”

The border agency also said migrants rescued by charities’ boats often refused to cooperate with debriefing experts, with some claiming “that they were warned [by NGOs] not to co-operate with Italian law enforcement or Frontex”.

And, this is stunning! There are allegations that the money being pocketed by people smugglers is actually going to the Islamic State!

In September, the head of Austria’s anti-human trafficking force warned that much of the profit of people smugglers in the Middle East and North Africa goes to Islamic State, and is now the terror group’s primary source of funding.

US Southern border….

I will bet a buck that US NGOs are also in communication with networks bringing Somalis and Middle Easterners to our southern border (where asylum lawyers wait for them!) and I suggested in a post in 2011 that Congress investigate that possibility. Still waiting! How many in those nearly 6 years since I wrote that post have gotten in across our borders?

Malta operation….

Some of the illegal aliens (like those in the photo above) who reach the Mediterranean island nation of Malta are being shipped off to your US towns!
I’ve been writing about this likely illegal action by the US State Department ever since the Bush Administration began this practice. Each year we take hundreds of the boat people who get to Malta—a safe European country!—to America as refugees. It is sheer insanity as there is no way these boat migrants launching from Libya and elsewhere in Africa have any documentation or any other way of screening them (other than we apparently believe their personal stories)!
To prove my point, I checked Wrapsnet.org processing country map and data for the first two months of FY2017.
See it here. Look at this, we processed in to the US 101 (85 cases indicates most were single refugees—men of course) from a safe European country. Why are these illegal alien boat people our problem?

screenshot-86 — This is only one page of the data on processing countries. We don’t know which nationalities are getting in through each of these processing locations. From past news reports I know that many being shipped to America from Malta are Somalis. Information on all nationalities entering the US from each processing center should be made public.

I’ve done a books-worth of research on Malta, click here, for ambitious readers. And, I am not going to stop reporting on the outrage until someone in Congress notices and begins an investigation! Or, Donald Trump kills whatever ‘deal’ we made with Malta/the EU to take excess illegal migrants off their hands!

Are NGO "rescue" ships in the Mediterranean helping to destabilize Europe?

Yes, say investigators whose information is pretty persuasive. They say Americans are involved too.

A few days ago, an American reader sent me a story about the supposedly non-profit groups that have furnished rescue ships operating in the Mediterranean. I didn’t have time to look at it carefully (and I knew I had previously written about one such ship, here), but when a longtime reader from Malta sent me more links yesterday, I spent a little time just now going over reports.
The allegations are that the ‘non-profit’ ships may be working in concert with human traffickers in Libya and that they are not simply picking up (mostly economic) migrants in European waters, but meeting the Africans and Middle Easterners who want to get to Europe in the waters right off Libya. In such locations any foundering vessel would logically be returned to the African coast, the shortest distance by far, but are intercepted and taken all the way to Italy.
(By the way, any mention of Libya gets my blood boiling because we know it is now a gateway for invaders of Europe thanks to Hillary Clinton—a story I followed from its outset!)

Here is one story on the allegations against these ‘non-profits.’
The Way:

For two months, GEFIRA using marinetraffic.com have been monitoring the movements of ships owned by a couple of NGOs, and, using data from data.unhcr.org.

Gerira [GEFIRA?] have kept track of the daily arrivals of African immigrants in Italy. It turned out we have witnessed a massive scam of illegal human trafficting.

NGOs, smugglers, the mafia in cahoots with the European Union have shipped thousands of illegals into Europe under the pretext of rescuing people, assisted by the Italian coast guard which coordinated their activities.

Human traffickers contact the Italian coast guard in advance to receive support and to pick up their dubious cargo. NGO ships are directed to the “rescue spot” even as those to be rescued are still in Libya.

The 15 ships GEFIRA observed are owned or leased by NGOs have regularly been seen to leave their Italian ports, head south, stop short of reaching the Libyan coast, pick up their human cargo, and take course back 260 miles to Italy even though the port of Zarzis in Tunis is just 60 mile away from the rescue spot.

The organizations in question are: MOAS, Jugend Rettet, Stichting Bootvluchting, Médecins Sans Frontières, Save the Children, Proactiva Open Arms, Sea-Watch.org, Sea-Eye and Life Boat.

One cannot help but wonder whether the MOAS people are honest saviours or they are on a mission to destabilise Europe even further.

It is a Malta-based non-governmental organisation, which set itself the task of patrolling the Mediterranean and rescuing people in high seas, lifting them up from dinghies, rafts and boats onto the Phoenix, the MOAS-owned trawler, a vessel complete with drones for scanning the waters, and ferrying migrants from places several miles off the Libyan shore to Sicily. The organisation is run by Chris Catrambone (35) and his wife Regina.

And, by the way, in February of this year, we reported that the ‘Phoenix’ was headed to Asia to rescue Muslim Rohingya, but I don’t know if that ever happened. (I’m always surprised by how much information is here at RRW that I’ve forgotten about!)

Even if the ‘rescue’ ships are doing nothing illegal, their very presence simply encourages more migrants to attempt sea crossings.

Cut the crap! Australia 'refugee' deal is about the Australian public not wanting any more Muslim migrants

….while Obama is willing to take all he can get!
Look at this New York Times story on the supposed deal the Obama Administration has made with Australia to take its rejected asylum seekers off their hands! And, look at the UN twisting like a pretzel as it tries to explain why this insane deal is even being considered.
What it all boils down to is this: the Australian public (the voters) are sick and tired of all the Muslim boat people trying to break into Australia (so they have been parked offshore), but Australian political leaders, by agreeing to take Central American (phony refugees) in Costa Rica, are banking on being able to sell the public on most likely Catholics (or Christians of some sort) rather than the Muslims whose asylum cases were rejected!
This is basically a swap of illegal aliens! Don’t believe the UN that this is a “one-off!” Check out Malta, the European island nation that sends the US its overflow African illegal alien boat people, a travesty we have been writing about for years.

The Muslim boat people held in detention in Australian offshore facilities have had their asylum claims rejected. So neither those on Nauru or those in Costa Rica are legitimate (by definition) refugees!

SYDNEY, Australia — For years, the United Nations’ refugee agency told Australia that its policy of banishing asylum seekers to remote Pacific island detention centers was illegal.

samantha-power — This is Obama’s Ambassador to the UN, Samantha Power. This “deal” sounds like something she wholeheartedly approved. What will Nikki Haley do about it (or other similar deals, this is not a one-off) when she gets to the UN? Will she say No! We don’t know, but one thing we can be sure of, Haley will likely dress more professionally than Power!

Now, the agency is working with Australia in what both sides call an unusual, not-to-be-replicated agreement to send some of those refugees across the world, to be resettled in the United States.

The deal, announced by Australia last week, is aimed at shutting down two offshore detention facilities — one on the island nation of Nauru and the other on Manus Island in Papua New Guinea — where hundreds of people are housed in what rights groups describe as deplorable conditions. The United States has agreed to take some of them; how many, and how quickly, remains unclear.

In an interview this week, Volker Turk, an assistant high commissioner with the United Nations’ refugee agency, said his staff would help with the screening and resettlement of refugees but only as a “one-off” to allay their suffering. “We think there is an urgent imperative to find a humanitarian way out of this otherwise very, very, complex conundrum,” he said by telephone from Canberra, the Australian capital.

What the heck is the “complex conundrum?”

Either they are legitimate refugees that Australia should admit to the mainland or they are illegal aliens who should be returned to where they came from.
THEY ARE NOT AMERICA’S PROBLEM EITHER WAY!
NYT continues:

“We do not in any way want to give the impression that we would continue supporting such types of mechanisms,” Mr. Turk said, referring to Australia’s offshore detention policy. “We, all of us, are very clear that this is a one-off, good offices, exceptional humanitarian type of involvement because we do not believe that the future of handling this lies in sending people to Manus Island and Nauru.”

Making the deal even more unusual, Australia has agreed to take in an unspecified number of Central American refugees who fled gang violence in their homelands. [Fleeing gang violence is not a criteria for being designated a refugee!—ed] The United Nations says there are an estimated 2,400 such people from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras who have been screened and recognized as refugees [Who “recognized” them?—ed]. The United States has long been reluctant to let them apply for asylum on its territory and only recently agreed to let the United Nations vet them at a processing center in Costa Rica.

I REPEAT, WHY ARE THE CENTRAL AMERICANS WHO FLED TO COSTA RICA OUR PROBLEM?
Legitimate asylum seekers are supposed to ask for asylum in the first safe country they get to, they are not supposed to be ‘asylum shopping’ for better deals! By doing this ‘one-time’ (ha! ha!) deal we set the precedent for many more to come!

US considering taking Australian illegal boat people, housed on Nauru, to US as refugees

We have no responsibility for saving Australia from its hundreds of illegal aliens who attempted to reach Australia by boat and converting them to refugees to be seeded into your US towns and cities.

That damn George W. Bush set a precedent about 9 years ago by taking illegal aliens who arrived on the island nation of Malta to the US as refugees. I was told (by insiders!) at the time that it was illegal!
Now we are going to pick up Australia’s illegal aliens!!!

The US has strongly hinted that it has been in discussions with Australia about the possible resettlement of refugees from Nauru to the US.

The Australian last week revealed that refugees on Manus Island and Nauru will be offered permanent new homes in a handful of third countries, which could include northern hemisphere countries such as the US and Canada, as part of a multilateral resettlement deal the Turnbull government hopes to announce by the end of the year.

The resettlement deal would enable it to drastically downsize the processing centres on Manus and Nauru by offering permanent settlement to most of the 1800-odd recognised refugees on Manus and Nauru.

Sources told The Australian the government was in the final stages of negotiating the deals, of which several are understood to be in the northern hemisphere, suggesting the US or Canada may be being considered.

In response to questions about whether Australia and the US had held discussions over the issue of refugees on Nauru, the US State Department’s East Asian and Pacific Affairs Bureau spokeswoman Connie Paik appeared to confirm that talks had taken place.
