Pope frets over Rome anti-refugee riots: Couldn’t he see this coming on Lampedusa?

He went to the besieged Italian island in 2013 and put on a great show of “welcome” to the mostly illegal aliens coming from Africa and the Middle East.

July 2013, Pope lectures on Lampedusa, chides the world for its indifference!

He said mass and lectured the world about indifference to our brothers and sisters, while the struggling elected officials of Lampedusa tried to tell anyone who would listen that they couldn’t manage the hordes anymore—the cost, the crime, all of it.

From the New York Times (entitled: ‘Pope offers mass on island beacon for refugees‘)

ROME — Pope Francis traveled on Monday to Lampedusa, the tiny Mediterranean island that has become a gateway to Europe for thousands of desperate asylum seekers and migrants, as well as an unknown number of others who have died during the perilous crossing from North Africa.

It was the pope’s first official trip outside Rome, and he used it to draw attention to a continuing humanitarian problem while chiding the world for its indifference.

“These brothers and sisters of ours were trying to leave difficult situations to find a little serenity and peace….

We wrote about his scolding here.

Now that Rome itself is overloaded with demanding third-worlders (mostly young Muslim men who came in through Lampedusa, by the way), and its citizens are rioting against the loss of their neighborhoods and their way of life, the Pope seems, what?  Surprised?  What did he expect!

Now, he says, we have a “social emergency!”

From Yahoo News:

Vatican City (AFP) – Pope Francis on Sunday described violent attacks on refugees in Rome as symptomatic of a “social emergency” that will only get worse if it is not addressed.

Addressing the crowds in St Peter’s Square after his weekly Angelus sermon, the pontiff urged authorities and church officials to work to calm tensions after several days of mob attacks on a holding centre for asylum speakers in a rundown neighbourhood of the Italian capital.

“In recent days in Rome there have been quite strong tensions between residents and immigrants,” the pontiff said, in a reference to the unrest in the Tor Sapienza district.

“These are things that can happen in different European cities, particularly in peripheral neighbourhoods already suffering from other problems.  [So why didn’t he see that when he essentially invited the masses to Italy in 2013?—ed]

“I call on the authorities, at every level, to address what now constitutes a social emergency which, if not dealt with soon in an adequate manner, risks degenerating further.

No kidding!

So what did they expect? Austria opened its doors to Muslim asylum seekers, now they worry about Jihadists in their midst

Check out all of our posts on “welcoming” Austria as it grew its Muslim population in recent years.   And, see our post yesterday on rates of Islamic radicalization in other European countries.

From Reuters:

(Reuters) – Authorities suspect around 130 people resident in Austria – most of them foreign nationals – have allied themselves with Islamist militants fighting abroad, officials in Vienna said on Friday, raising their estimate by nearly a third.

Public safety director Konrad Kogler told a news conference the 130 figure included “people actively participating in combat as well as ones who have returned to Austria, because both groups of people are relevant for us”.

He thought around two-thirds of them had come back to Austria and one-third were in battle or on the way there.

Officials were tracking the target group’s foreign travel and monitoring their activities when they return given the security risk they might pose, he said.

He said 40 of the 130 were Austrian citizens. The others were primarily from Russia, the Balkans and Turkey.

[….]

Kogler did not confirm reports that the nine suspects – one aged just 17 – were Chechens, but said many were Russian citizens.

The suspects had mostly come to Austria as young people and got political asylum that could be revoked should they be convicted of joining a terrorist organization, officials said.

Big deal!  I am sure those budding Jihadists are concerned about the revocation of their political refugee status!

What’s this? Palestinian asylum-seeking hunger strikers in “welcoming” Sweden

Just yesterday we reported that Swedish politicians approaching the coming election are getting squeamish about how Sweden (Europe’s most famous welfare state) can possibly maintain its rate of in-migration and at the same time “show tolerance,” and what do we see—Palestinians starving themselves to death on the streets!

This is not helpful as elections approach.  (Just as it is not helpful to Obama’s party in November if the “children” keep surging across the US border and turn up in local schools and health departments).

Palestinian hunger strikers in Gothenburg, Sweden. http://electronicintifada.net/content/palestinian-refugees-sweden-hunger-strike-demand-asylum/13777

From The Electronic Intifada (whatever that is!):

On Thursday last week, 24-year-old Nidal Lulu was taken to a hospital by emergency services after he lost consciousness as a result of nine days without food. Lulu is one of thirty Palestinian asylum-seekers, some of whom are under the age of eighteen, who commenced a hunger strike on 6 August in central Gothenburg, Sweden.

Thirteen have been taken to hospital. But ten have returned to tents erected in a city square and continue the strike.

“We cannot go back. We are from old Palestine and we have no country and no homes anymore. Many of us have been here from two to eight years without being granted residence. It’s no way to live,” one of the refugees, Muhammed Abughalioun, told local newspaper Göteborgs-Posten last week.

“We will continue our hunger strike until we die,” he said.

Once a Palestinian, always a refugee (forever and ever)!  Everyone knows that, why don’t the Swedes?

US lectures Thailand on treatment of Muslim Uighurs seeking asylum

Hmmm!  This is interesting.  Note in this story that Malaysia recently returned Uighurs to China.   Any connection to the missing plane?

From the Global Post (emphasis mine):

The United States on Friday urged Thailand to protect some 200 asylum seekers who are reportedly from China’s Uighur minority, after police said they discovered them at a secret camp.

Thai police said Thursday that they discovered the families in a raid in the kingdom’s deep south and that the asylum seekers, who appeared to be preparing to head elsewhere, said they were Turkish.

The Uighurs come from Xinjiang province. The March 1 terror attack occurred in Kunming.

US broadcaster Radio Free Asia, quoting relatives, said that the asylum seekers were actually Uighurs — a Turkic-speaking, predominantly Muslim group from China’s northwestern Xinjiang region.

“We are urging the Thai government to provide full protection to the victims (and) to ensure that their humanitarian needs are met,” State Department deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf told reporters.

The annual US Human Rights Reports said that China carries out “severe official repression” of Uighurs in Xinjiang, including over their freedom of speech and religion.

March 1 mass stabbing at train station:

Xinjiang is periodically hit by violent clashes and Chinese officials blamed Uighur separatists for a March 1 mass stabbing at a train station in the southwestern city of Kunming that killed 29 people and injured 143 others.

Malaysia among countries forcibly returning Uighurs to China.

Under Beijing’s pressure, Cambodia, Malaysia and Pakistan have all in recent years forcibly returned Uighurs to China.

The UN refugee agency criticized Malaysia for its deportation of six Uighurs to China in December, saying that they were sent back to a country where they were at risk even though the group had registered asylum claims.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees said that it is providing assistance to the 200 asylum seekers in Thailand but has not confirmed their identifies.

Graphic is from the Wall Street Journal report on the terrorist attack.

Third country resettlement likely for Australia’s ‘asylum-seeking’ cast-offs!

Oh no!  This can only mean resettlement to the US and Canada.  Surely Europe, which is being swamped right now with illegal aliens claiming they are there seeking asylum, isn’t going to take Australia’s problems!

PNG official: Asylum-seeking boat people should get to live where they prefer!

Regular readers know that we have been following Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd’s scheme to send their mostly Muslim illegal migrants to Papua New Guinea (PNG).  Click here and here for a couple of posts on the policy.

Now comes news from officials in PNG that the ‘asylum seekers’ will only be in their rural country for a short time because after all they were looking for cities to live in and they should get to go to a country they “PREFER.

The you-know-what would hit the fan if the US was taking large numbers of Australia’s aliens, but the average US citizen (or dumb Member of Congress) would not pay attention to “refugees” coming from PNG.

And, since the US State Department has already set a dangerous precedent by taking some of Malta’s illegal alien boat people to your towns and cities, they could hardly say no to PNG (and their minders at the UN!).

From the Herald Sun:

THE PNG government says it will work with the UN refugee agency to resettle asylum seekers to third countries that boat arrivals to Australia would “prefer.”

Prime Minister Peter O’Neill’s spokesman, Daniel Korimbo, said the country expected very few of the almost-2000 already eligible to be sent to PNG would remain there, despite the government doing an almost half billion dollar aid deal in return for resettlement.

Australia will also help PNG cope with West Papuan asylum seekers illegally entering the country, where there are up to 10,000 currently.

“There is an expectation some of them may eventually become refugees who will eventually reside here,” Mr Korimbo said yesterday.

“They chose to go to Australia and concrete buildings, they didn’t pick this subsistence life.

“PNG and the UNHCR will eventually resettle them or find a country which they would prefer.”

[…..]

According to Coalition figures, 50,032 people have arrived on 798 boats since Labor was elected in November 2007.

[…..]

Mr Abbott (Opposition leader) said proof that Mr Rudd’s PNG solution was not working came in the form of 26 boats with 1950 people arriving since it was announced.

Australian elections are next month!  Rudd needs to prove he can handle Australia’s thorniest problem—illegal immigration.

Yesterday reader Joanne sent me this post from Bare Naked Islam with photos of the poor and destitute Australian ‘asylum-seekers’ and they sure look like commandos for an invading army to me!
