Alert! Refugee resettlement industry/media pushing Obama to raise the ceiling for this year’s refugees to accommodate Syrians

We have mentioned this previously, but the pieces began to come together over the last few days when first, David Miliband (head honcho of refugee contractor the International Rescue Committee), penned his Washington Post op-ed on the subject, and then I happened to catch Fareed Zakaria’s guilt-tripping report on the Syrian refugees here at ‘Fareed Zakaria—GPS.‘   Zakaria said the US isn’t doing enough!

All of the players in the refugee industry were counting on a large number of Syrians to enter the US in FY2015 until…..

The FBI sends resettlement industry into a tailspin with Hill testimony!

CNN’s Fareed Zakaria told viewers that the US isn’t doing enough for Syrian refugees and we need to bring more to the US for your already overloaded towns and cities.

The UN High Commissioner for Refugees (which picks our refugees and has 10,000 mostly Muslim Syrians queued-up for America right now), the US State Department (which was promising we would take 9,000-10,000 this year!), and the federal contractors *** (looking for more paying “clients” aka refugees) basically got kicked in the teeth a few weeks ago when the other partner in the resettlement process—the Department of Homeland Security (FBI) told the House Homeland Security Committee that they can’t properly screen for terrorist connections in the Syrian refugee population because there is no way to gather information on them.

So the flow to America is going to be slow and the numbers no where near the 10,000 and up this year that the contractors were pushing for!

(ISIS has said it will use the refugee stream to get into Europe, so why not the US as well!)

The sob-story lobbying campaign to go around the FBI has begun!

There is a track record of the contractors, open borders advocacy groups, and the media teaming up to circumvent procedures in Washington to get what they want—more refugees than your cities can manage.  (If anyone needs evidence, let me know, we have it all archived here).

Make no mistake, the majority of Syrian refugees the UN has chosen for America are Sunni Muslims!

When Zakaria looked into the camera this past weekend with sad eyes and made his plea for America to take in more Syrians he didn’t tell Americans that the FBI had already said that the numbers would be small for NATIONAL SECURITY REASONS.

I can’t impress on readers enough, you must speak out and tell Washington—tell your elected representatives—that we should not be resettling any more Syrian Muslims!

If Obama is going to make a move to raise the ceiling, from a total of 70,000 refugees this year to perhaps 100,000 as the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society is demanding to accommodate Syrians, it will be soon!

One thing you might do, if you are concerned about the Christians, the Yazidis, and other religious minorities is to tell your representatives that we will only take the persecuted minorities (Canada has already said that those will be their priority) and watch the UN rage!  Real Christians will offer to help sponsor them and not expect the US taxpayer to shoulder the entire burden.

***Six of the federal resettlement contractors masquerade as ‘religious’ charities but their refugee work is largely funded from the federal treasury:

Ireland turns down some Syrian refugees due to enormous anticipated medical costs

As the ‘Invasion of Europe‘ continues, Irish hospitals seem to have some common sense.

From the Irish Times:

At the time of this report, Germany said they will take 20,000 Syrians and the US said we will take an “open-ended number.” Now we know the US State Department is shooting for 2,000 before Sept. 30th of this year. Chart here: http://www.thejournal.ie/syrian-refugees-ireland-2-1565934-Jul2014/

A number of refugees due for resettlement in Ireland have been diverted to other countries after the Health Service Executive said they would not be offered medical treatment here.

In five cases involving programme refugees since 2011, the HSE when asked to provide treatment in the Irish health service did not do so, it has confirmed. “The HSE reviews the medical details of these people before they travel. In cases where treatment was not offered in Ireland, it was felt that it was not in the best interest of the applicant. These cases are then referred to another country for consideration,” a spokeswoman said.

Over the same period, it has treated 15 programme refugees with medical needs and it hopes to treat five more this year.

Remember!  It is the UN that is calling the shots and putting pressure on western countries to take refugees.

Programme refugees have been invited to live here by the State under the auspices of the UN Refugee Agency’s Resettlement Programme.

Almost 280 programme refugees from various countries were received by Ireland between 2011 and 2014.

According to the HSE, 90 Syrian refugees were resettled in this country since October 2014. A further 220 refugees are expected to arrive in 2015 and in 2016.

Syrian Muslim refugees headed to Indianapolis: to build Obama seed community?

This is a really informative news report from reporter Gretchen Frazee at Indiana Public Media.  The story begins with a warm introduction to a Syrian family which has just arrived in Indianapolis with the help of federal resettlement contractor Exodus Refugee Immigration which is a subcontractor of both Church World Service and Episcopal Migration Ministries (two of the big nine contractors).

You can read the warm and fuzzy part yourselves, then this (emphasis is mine):

The U.S. began bringing in Syrian refugees in October and expects to allow in a total of 2,000 by the end of the fiscal year.  [This fiscal year ends September 30th, 2015. Yesterday we learned that the contractors are pushing Obama to raise the ceiling for Syrians.—ed]

One of the pressing questions we have (and most readers concerned for their towns have) is how is a town or city chosen to be the next resettlement site for a group of new refugees.

We are told that one reason Indianapolis was chosen is that the Islamic Society of North America is nearby (ahhhhh!).

Carleen Miller, Executive Director Exodus Refugee Immigration: “This year the number will be small…then their relatives will come and then their relatives will come.”

The State Department normally sends refugees to cities where they have friends or family. But Lababidi and Alhamoud didn’t know anyone in the U.S., so the government used a kind of formula to determine which location had the resources to best meet their needs.  The department determined that place was Indiana.  [I sure would like to see this formula!—ed]

“The main thing is that refugees go to a place that’s welcoming, that has a cost of living they can survive in, that has employment and opportunities,” says Carleen Miller, the executive director of Exodus Refugee Immigration, which is handling Syrian families’ resettlement in Indianapolis.

She points out that the Islamic Society of North America is based just outside of Indianapolis in Plainfield. There is also a mosque which many Syrians attend in Fishers and a group of Christian Syrians at a nearby church.

“There are people who are interested in Syrians in our city, so it makes for a good environment for them to be successful,” Miller says.

Then there is a very long section on security concerns.

Regular readers know that the FBI testified in Congress a few weeks ago that it was virtually impossible to properly screen the Syrians.

Exodus Refugee Immigration has resettled three Syrian refugee families in Indianapolis so far.

Miller calls the process long and arduous.

“The U.S. has the most rigorous screening process where they do at least five security checks on refugees coming into the country,” she says.

Syrians are also receiving additional scrutiny, although State Department officials aren’t saying exactly what that is.

“It’s a hard balance to strike,” says former Rep. Lee Hamilton, D-Indiana, who served as chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, the Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Select Committee to Investigate Covert Arms Transactions with Iran.

“You want to welcome these people into this country and into the state, but at the same time you want to be careful about it. You want to trust, but you want to verify,” Hamilton says.

The cause for concern and an extra watchful eye is the threat of radicals who might try to enter the U.S. as refugees. Even while most people acknowledge the vast majority of people applying for refugee status are harmless and are in a real need of help, the small possibility of extremists trying to get into the U.S. via refugee status is raising questions.

[….]

“If it’s a very young person, a child, you probably don’t need to follow that person closely,” he says. “An elderly person, likewise. The people you really have to keep your eye on, to be blunt about it, are young men. They’re not exclusively the problem, but they’re the overwhelming part of the problem.”

Oh, yeh, I bet the Islamic Society of North America and CAIR aren’t going to like this!

Hamilton says that’s why police must keep tabs on refugees after they enter the country — often through random checks of the places they frequent, such as the churches or mosques they attend — but he is quick to reiterate that in the overwhelming majority of cases, refugees are hard working people who simply want to make a better life for themselves and their families.  [Definitely keep an eye on those Christian terrorists!—ed]

Spartanburg, SC and every town in America faced with “welcoming” refugees pay attention to this.  Never truer words were said:  Obama seed community will grow!

The U.S. cannot say how many more Syrians might come to Indiana specifically, but service providers are doing their best to prepare because refugee populations tend to build on each other.

“This year the number will be small and it may grow as we get a few families, and then their relatives will come and then their relatives will come,” Miller says.

Read this whole article.  I’ve only snipped some of the news that interested me.  There is a discussion about refugee mental health and about how the Burmese have overwhelmed Fort Wayne, Indiana—from refugee resettlement and from secondary migration.

Several years ago former Indiana Senator Richard Lugar obtained a GAO Report on the problem of refugee overload to towns and cities and it appears to have been just an exercise in futility as it appears to have been simply thrown down a rat hole.

Go here for our archive on Indiana.  We have published many posts on problems in the state.  We first became aware of those problems when the Health Department in Fort Wayne was overwhelmed with refugee TB cases in 2007.

An afterthought:  Check out the contractors most recent Form 990 here.  They took in $2,120,954 and only $237,255 might have come from non-taxpayer funds (p. 9).  Remember this is a business, it is not funded by passing the plate at church on Sunday!

Refugee resettlement contractor wants Obama to raise the FY2015 ceiling on admission of refugees to bring in large number of Syrians

Update March 22nd:  This same Op-Ed is published at the Gulf Times and they have a poll, go there and answer the poll question—should we bring Syrians into the US or not?

This is no surprise to us, the rumblings have been underway for months by others of the nine major US State Department resettlement contractors.  Now comes a Washington Post opinion piece by David Miliband of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) to go above the 70,000 refugees we are in the process of admitting from all over the world. (See Hebrew Immigrant Immigrant Aid Society with the same plea for Obama to open the gates to Syrians.)

Hillary yuks it up with David Miliband in 2009. Hillary: “Well, if you saw him it would be a big crush.” http://www.theguardian.com/world/2009/nov/17/hillary-clinton-david-miliband-interview

Doing well by doing good?

For new readers, David Miliband is the former British Foreign Secretary who has moved across the Atlantic to serve as the CEO of the IRC.***  His predecessor pulled down a salary and benefits package of nearly $500,000 to “rescue” poor souls and we expect he didn’t pull up stakes in the UK for less than that.

As we were reminded by the Massachusetts contractor, here just a few days ago, this is a business!   Contractors are paid by the head to resettle refugees in your towns and cities.

Security concerns!

A few weeks ago the FBI testified in Congress that they could not adequately screen the Syrians because there are no records on even who they are.  Of course it begs the question, how did we screen over 100,000 Somalis we have admitted to the US over the last few decades?

Miliband first gives us the guilt trip about how countries in the Middle East are suffering with the arrival of hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees and somehow we need to do our share.  Somehow the fact that we send millions of dollars in aid for the refugees isn’t enough.

And, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees is helping pressure Obama by placing over 10,000 Syrians in a queue for America.

Past experience tells us that once the pipeline is open for permanent resettlement to the US, it will be open for potentially decades even if the civil war wrapped up tomorrow!

Notice that Miliband never says a word about Christians and other religious minorities.  We know that the vast majority of those in the pipeline are Syrian Muslims from UN camps.

Here is Miliband at the Washington Post giving us three things we must do:

First, in light of the dire situation in Syria, it can raise the 70,000 cap specifically to accommodate Syrian refugees over the next two years.

Second, it can ensure that DHS issues needed guidance on “material support” waivers created in 2014, thus avoiding delays and denials to Syrians who have committed no wrongs. [These same contractors successfully lobbied the Administration to lift the material support for terrorism ban, and apparently DHS has never published any regulations.  Some inside the Administration are evidently trying to protect us!—ed]

Third…The United States can expand resettlement options by establishing, through the refugee program, a family reunification mechanism enabling Syrian Americans to bring extended family to safety more quickly.

On this last point, we already have mechanisms in place to bring LEGITIMATE family members to the US—we call it chain migration!

*** The IRC has the largest budget of the nine contractors.  Approximately 73% comes from you:

International Rescue Committee (secular)
(From 2012 Form 990)

Total revenue: $456,122,865
Govt. grants and contracts (including travel loan income): $332,271,151
Percent taxpayer funded: 73%
Top salary: $485,321

UNHCR has 10,000 Syrian refugees in the pipeline for America, but material support of terrorism bar blocking the way

Well, what do you know, some international criticism building because the US has not opened its arms (yet!) to mass numbers of Syrian refugees.

But, as I have pointed out on many occasions, Obama’s name is never linked with the criticism as Bush’s was always linked in media blasts every month for probably a year before the Bush Administration opened the spigot for Iraqi refugees (that are now coming in at a rate of over 20,000 a year!).

We have also been pointing out that the refugee resettlement contractors*** have been demanding 12,000-15,000 Syrians a year be admitted. They were getting geared up—finding new towns in which to resettle them—and then a few weeks ago the boom dropped when the FBI testified in the House Homeland Security Committee that there is no way they can properly screen the Syrians.  Of course, there is no way to properly screen the over 800 Somalis entering the US every month now either!

Anne Richard Asst. Secretary of State with UNHCR Antonio Guterres: partners in deciding what third-worlders are coming to your town!

This is interesting news, despite the lifting of the ban on material support, the Obama Administration has yet to apply the lesser screening requirements to Syrians.

By the way, if you saw the record-breaking post on Spartanburg, SC you know that one group World Relief would like to settle in South Carolina is Syrians.

We have resettled around 500 Syrians so far.  Approximately 87% are Muslims.  See where they have been placed in the US in the first three months of FY2015, here.

There is one way to get around this worry over screening Muslims, don’t bring Muslims!

We could join Canada and say only Christians and other minorities are permitted entry into the US!

By continuing to select Syrians for America, the UN is putting political pressure on our Homeland Security Department to step it up.  There will be much wailing that we couldn’t possibly be so mean as to leave all these people waiting in line!

From The Guardian (emphasis below is mine):

The US is preparing to permanently resettle thousands of the millions of Syrians forced to flee their homes during the country’s four-year civil war. But as the lengthy resettlement process speeds up, some human rights advocates are concerned that certain refugees are being unfairly excluded.  [Once the pipeline is open, and even if the civil war comes to an end, the flow of permanent refugees from Syria will continue for years.—ed]

So far, the US has accepted only tiny numbers of Syrians: 105 in the year to October 2014 and just 36 in the year before that, although it has stepped up admissions with 350 refugees in the past four months.

Last year officials eased the “material support” rule under US immigration law that was designed to prevent terrorist sympathisers from entering the US but instead acted as a dragnet, ensnaring Syrians with no real connection to terrorism. More than a year later, however, advocates say they still have not seen the exemptions applied to Syrian refugee cases.

“What this means is that a lot of people who need protections and who might fall under those ‘material support’ inclusions – by no fault of their own – aren’t getting protection in the US,” said Noah Gottschalk, senior humanitarian policy adviser for Oxfam America. “And that means that a number of people who are among the most vulnerable in the world are being denied protections that they very much need.”

Representatives from a handful of refugee aid groups said they were still waiting for the the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to release guidelines on how to apply the rule change. Until then, they said, Syrian refugees applying for residence in the US were at risk of being denied entry for an act as small as selling sandwiches to rebel fighters.  [This is a straw man argument, what refugee in his right mind is going to report on an application for admission to the US that he/she gave sandwiches to rebels?—ed]

“Our main concern at this stage is the absence of that guidance,” said Anna Greene, the policy and advocacy director for US programmes at the International Rescue Committee (IRC).  [The IRC is a contractor looking for more paying “clients” to resettle.—ed]

For those who don’t believe it, here it is again.  The UN is picking our refugees!

The US State Department has received more than 11,000 resettlement applications from Syrian refugees in recent months, the vast majority of which are referrals from the UN high commissioner for refugees (UNHCR).

Quick!  US taxpayers, hide your wallets!

Don’t worry, terrorist men won’t get in because we are only planning to bring economically needy women, children, senior citizens and sick and disabled people!

Richard (Anne Richard, Asst. Secretary of State for PRM) said the US intended to accept thousands of Syrian refugees in 2015 and 2016. She said she did not anticipate security being an issue with the Syrians the UNHCR was referring to the US, as the majority were widows, women and children, elderly people and people with debilitating medical conditions.

Read it all.
