US Conference of Catholic Bishops wants US to do more for Syrian refugees; mum on how many to resettle

A delegation of Catholic leaders and one of their chief Washington ‘advocates’ (Anastasia Brown) traveled to Bulgaria, Greece and Turkey recently and concluded that we need to send the UN more money for ‘refugees’ in those countries and resettle more here.

For new readers, the USCCB is the largest of the nine resettlement contractors*** planting seedlings (aka New Americans) (Obama Administration lingo, not mine!) in your towns and cities.

98% of the Bishops migration program is funded by you, the US taxpayer.  Did you pay for their trip to Europe?  You must have because I doubt very much that they passed a plate in your parishes for their travel money!

That is Bishop Elizondo leading a pack of priests at the US border in April 2014. Were they inviting the ‘unaccompanied alien children’ to come on in? https://refugeeresettlementwatch.org/2014/06/26/us-catholic-bishops-chairman-kids-coming-across-border-should-be-viewed-as-refugees/

Missing from the press accounts and their report (under the auspices of Bishop Most Reverend Eusebio Elizondo, chairman of the USCCB)  is any criticism of the Obama Administration for moving slowly on Syrians.  The USCCB and the other refugee contractors beat Bush up every month for over a year when he wasn’t moving fast enough to bring in Iraqis back in 2006 and 2007.

Bishop Elizondo testified to Congress a year ago: 15,000 Syrians now!

Also missing (or at least I didn’t see it), is any mention of the fact that the Bishops testified in Congress in January 2014 that they wanted the US to bring in 15,000 Syrians a year.

Here is a report on Bishop Elizondo’s testimony to Congress a year ago at Catholic Culture:

Noting that the number of Syrian refugees has risen from 550,000 in October 2012 to 2.3 million today, the chairman of the United Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Committee on Migration urged the Congress to increase aid to Syrian refugees, permit 15,000 Syrian refugees to enter the country, and to encourage other nations to welcome refugees as well.

Here is a press account at Independent Catholic News about the recent trip and report:

The Syrian refugee crisis – now totaling nearly four million refugees- has reached a “tipping point,” in which countries in the region are no longer able to handle the flow of refugees across their borders, warns US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) officials who recently traveled to the Middle East.

“Without more international support, we will find Syrians fleeing extremists being turned away and forced back to danger,” said Anastasia Brown, interim executive director for USCCB’s Migration and Refugee Services (MRS).

“The global community, led by Europe and the United States, needs to increase its support in order to prevent a humanitarian crisis.” A delegation of USCCB officials which visited the region in late 2014, released their report March 6. Entitled “Refuge and Hope in the Time of ISIS: The Urgent need for Protection, Humanitarian Support, and Durable Solutions in Turkey, Bulgaria, and Greece,” the report looks at the plight of Syrians in the three countries, a growing trek for Syrians attempting to reach Europe.

[….]

The delegation’s report lists several recommendations to address the crisis, including increased refugee assistance and resettlement.

By the way, they also say we need to help those three countries—Turkey, Bulgaria and Greece—with their overload of so-called ‘refugees’ (really most are economic migrants) from other countries who have arrived as illegal aliens to those three already besieged countries.

The report recommends that the US and the EU resettle more Syrians and other refugees (from those three countries) including Iraqis, Afghans, Congolese, Somalis, Eritreans, Sudanese and others, but falls short of saying how many.

Readers remember that the number of Syrians entering the US will be falling way short of the 15,000 the Bishops had been dreaming of when the FBI testified to Congress recently that there is no way to properly screen the Syrians for security concerns.

And, don’t miss ‘Bishops between a rock and a hard place’ here.  When you take Caesar’s money, Caesar owns you!

*** The federal resettlement contractors (almost completely funded by US taxpayers) looking for new resettlement sites.  And, it wasn’t just the Bishops asking for over 10,000 Syrians a year to be admitted to the US, several other testified in Congress for more Syrians, here.

Swiss to “welcome” more Syrian refugees; UK Syrian resettlement stalled; critics silent on Obama record

Tiny Switzerland is now working overtime to destroy itself with an overload of migrants, while the UK is hanging tough (so far) and not opening its doors to large numbers of Sunni Muslims from Syria.  Meanwhile the US has admitted (thankfully) only a few hundred impossible-to-screen Syrians, but critics are silent on the Obama record (when Bush didn’t immediately admit Iraqi refugees they were all screaming like banshees!).

So what country is conspicuously missing? Are Amnesty International and the UNHCR afraid of criticizing America’s first black President? http://www.mintpressnews.com/%E2%80%8Buk-offers-just-90-places-for-syrian-refugees-abject-failure-says-amnesty-international/201909/

Here is the story from Switzerland.  Only the Swiss People’s Party is standing against the latest decision:

The Swiss cabinet agreed in principle on Friday to welcome an additional 3,000 Syrian refugees to Switzerland over the course of the next three years.

[….]

The first batch of 1,000 refugees are scheduled for this year and the cabinet will reassess the situation in Syria in autumn.

The Swiss plan for hosting Syrian refugees will follow two pathways. One will involve taking in 2,000 refugees as part of a sustainable resettlement programme that will take place over several years. This will be similar to a pilot project launched in 2013 in which Syrian refugees were granted asylum without having to go through the standard asylum process.

The other pathway involves granting 1,000 humanitarian visas for close relatives (spouses and minor children) of Syrians who have already been provisionally admitted into Switzerland.

Amnesty International blasts UK Syrian resettlement as “abject failure.”

Read all about it here and see that the US is not blasted by Amnesty International.

Indeed, it is the strangest thing! Amnesty and the UN are silent on the fact that the US has not (mercifully for us) taken more than a few hundred Syrians since the conflict began.

More news on Islamic “charity” helping Syrians get planted in Kentucky

More seeding going on in Louisville, KY as Syrian families are resettled by a ‘Christian’ charitable group (aka federal contractor) with funds from a controversial Islamic organization.

When I saw Senator Rand Paul’s sullen face and tepid clapping at the Netanyahu speech this past week, my reaction was immediate—he is not Presidential material if he can’t even keep a neutral face. He can disagree about how to handle Iran, he just shouldn’t look childish in his disagreement. But more importantly he can’t even see what is happening to his own state, so how will he keep America safe? http://rare.us/story/rand-paul-found-guilty-of-not-clapping-hard-enough-for-bibi-netanyahu/

In a story otherwise meant to be warm and fuzzy about a collection being taken up by Kentucky Refugee Ministries for its new Syrians, we learn a little bit more about the role of Islamic Relief USA.   Just a reminder, as I said here, I have never previously seen funding coming from a Muslim group directly to a federal refugee contractor.

From the Courier-Journal:

As Kentucky Refugee Ministries begins to resettle its first Syrian refugees in Louisville, members of the local Muslim community are banding together to collect items to help.

The first Syrian family to be resettled arrived Feb. 13, and another 20 families are expected in the coming months…..

Muslim community is “more organized now!” Indeed!

“Our community is more organized now, and we’re at the stage where we want to be more involved in helping the community,” said Natalia Blagaia, principal of the Nur school. “This is like a wake-up call.”

Churches and the general Christian community traditionally have taken on most of the responsibility for sponsoring KRM refugees and supplying their needs. The drive is “really an effort to engage the Muslim community,” Bailey-Ndiaye said.

The ministries received a grant of about $52,000 from Islamic Relief USA, which has regional offices throughout the country and headquarters in Alexandria, Va., to help enlist the support of the Muslim community and to aid some arriving refugees.

Once again for all those who don’t believe me that the UN is picking our refugees!

KRM assists people who have been identified by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees and the U.S. Government as needing resettlement.

I’m going to keep asking the same question:   Where are US Senators Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul?  Paul wants to be President of the US, but if he can’t seem to see what is happening in his own state, how can we expect him to keep us safe!  Is it a coincidence that much ‘seeding’ is happening in KY, nope!

By the way, don’t miss ‘US lacks adequate screening for Syrian refugees (FBI)’

Oh brother! Sweden wants to protect itself from illegal migrants with fingerprint requirements

…..How about protecting itself by putting the military on all of its borders?  In airports and seaports too and turn the invaders back?  Or, does Sweden even have a military?

Interior Minister Anders Ygeman: We need fingerprints because we Swedes can’t tell one Middle Easterner from another from their passport photos! They all look alike.

What a coincidence!  Where are most of the phony passport holders coming from—why Turkey of course!  See our earlier post today, here.

From the Business Times:

[STOCKHOLM] Sweden needs to beef up its border security to stop passport fraud, a government inquiry argued Monday as the country grapples with unprecedented levels of immigration.

The inquiry proposed fingerprint scans for all nationalities entering Sweden from outside the passport-free Schengen Area in a move that pre-empts the European Union, which has yet to make such screenings mandatory.

[….]

Sweden has seen immigration levels soar in the wake of the Syrian conflict and expects a record 90,000 asylum seekers to arrive in Sweden in 2015.

[….]

Among travellers entering Sweden from non-Schengen countries with either fake or lookalike passports, 77 per cent had come from Turkey, a frequent transit point for refugees from Syria and Iraq.

So if they catch the fraudulent asylum-seekers are they going to have the spine to send them back to Turkey? I doubt it!

HOW CAN THEY BE SO STUPID (sorry I’m shouting!)?

See our complete Sweden archive.  The country is my bet for the first European country to fall in the Muslim invasion of Europe.

See our ‘Invasion of Europe’ archive, here.

Of course, most Western countries are being equally stupid, including the US!

Turkey: Syrian refugees wait in grand hotel for boats to take them to Europe as the invasion continues

50,000 Syrians wait in a Turkish hotels to be smuggled into Germany, Sweden, Finland and Belgium.

There is so much news today, I don’t know what to write about first!  But, be sure to see my previous post about the US Justice Department letting a Somali (refugee) terrorist leave the country with vital information about the DC area.

This is one more in our ‘Invasion of Europe’ series—this time the invasion is being aided and abetted by Turkey (no surprise!).

Syrians hanging around in the hotel in Mersin waiting for the call to board a ship! Photo: Fabio Bucciarelli for Al Jazeera America

From Al-Jazeera:

MERSIN, Turkey — During summer months, Turks and Arabs on holiday crowd the Turkish port of Mersin, a town of 1.5 million people on the Mediterranean Sea. Stores lining the seafront sell Armani handbags and Turkish women sit unveiled in coffee shops, texting on their smartphones.

But in the last few years, hotels on Mersin’s waterfront have become home to a different kind of traveler.

Upper-middle-class refugees fleeing the violence of Syria’s civil war have used Mersin as an early waypoint – a safe harbor of sorts – on their way to new lives in countries like Germany, Sweden, Finland and Belgium.

In fact, Mersin’s tourist hotels, built recently but already showing signs of aging, serve as home to at least 50,000 Syrian refugees.

In the race to house them all, Green Tower hotel is ground zero. Here, Turkish has been replaced with Arabic, and some 300 Syrians wander the property aimlessly, waiting in limbo between the hell of war and an uncertain emigration to Europe. Rarely do they leave the hotel complex, in fear of missing the call that could very well represent the beginning of their new lives.

The one-way trip to Western Europe is organized by the Syrian and Turkish mafias and managed in detail by smugglers. Charging about $6,000 per person, the journey is accessible only to those who have put money aside — Syrians who have sold their homes and shops and managed to scrape together just enough to move their families away from danger.

In the past, most migrants who’ve found their way to the shores of Mersin were from African countries, rescued from small, waterlogged crafts. But this migration is different.

Smugglers transport refugees from Mersin to points throughout Europe on large ships, capable of squeezing up to 800 people into their hold.

[….]

According to Abu Hasan, a Syrian smuggler from Aleppo, the refugees used to be sent to Italy and Greece, but now head to Germany, Sweden, Finland and Belgium.

There is a lot more, with many photos, here.  Learn why Italy and Greece are not desirable landing sites any longer.

Why doesn’t the government of Turkey clean up the smuggler business?   I would guess two reasons—money, and because the government of Turkey is likely very happy to see Europe increase its Muslim population and thus bring about an Islamic state in Europe sooner than later.

And, come to think of it, where is the UN High Commissioner for Refugees?
