Republicans would expand LEGAL immigration, including chain migration in their proposed bill

But, they would eliminate the Diversity Visa Lottery which I just mentioned here the other day.  Advocates for mass immigration into the US fittingly call this diversity-enhancing program “new seed” immigration.

From AP at the Washington Post on Friday (while you were relaxing):

WASHINGTON — House Republicans still smarting from their poor showing among Hispanics in the presidential election are planning a vote next week on immigration legislation that would both expand visas for foreign science and technology students and make it easier for those with green cards to bring their immediate families to the U.S.

This is generally known as chain migration (Rep. Eric Cantor is all for it according the article):

Republicans are changing the formula this time by adding a provision long sought by some immigration advocates — expanding a program that allows the spouses and minor children of people with permanent residence, or green card, to wait in the United States for their own green cards to be granted.

There are some 80,000 of these family-based green cards allocated every year, but there are currently about 322,000 husbands, wives and children waiting in this category and on average people must wait more than two years to be reunited with their families. In that past that wait could be as long as six years.

Here is the part that sounds pretty good, but will go nowhere until people across America get involved and demand that their member of Congress KILL the Diversity Visa Lottery (sometimes called the “green card lottery”).  In fact, anyone who really cared about the refugees would oppose this lottery program too because it imports the kind of immigrants who will be in direct competition with refugees for jobs.

But the legislation would still eliminate the Diversity Visa Lottery Program which gives out a similar 55,000 green cards a year to those from countries, including many in Africa, with traditionally low rates of immigration to the U.S. That prompted the House’s Hispanic Caucus, Congressional Black Caucus and Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus to all come out against it in September.

The three caucuses said Republicans were trying to increase legal immigration for people they want by ending immigration for people they don’t want.

Ahhhhhh!  That is exactly what the goal of our immigration policy should be—-TO TAKE THE IMMIGRANTS WE WANT, THOSE THAT WOULD BENEFIT AMERICA and not the ones that will drain our resources while refusing to assimilate.

Immigration lawyers:  Looks like the Republicans are ready to talk, but this isn’t enough to satisfy us!

Crystal Williams, executive director of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, said the bill is a message from Republicans that “we are here and we are ready to talk about immigration reform.”

But she said she doubted it will make much progress in the Senate during the short lame-duck session. People “are now starting to think about broader reform,” she said, adding that a limited bill that doesn’t increase visas won’t get a lot of support.

Send those squishy Republicans back to the drawing board because they don’t get it—-no matter what they do it isn’t going to be enough for the Hard Left and their friends in the corporate world who need low wage laborers.

For new readers: Check out wikipedia here on the Diversity Visa Lottery, it has a pretty good write-up.  I’ve started a new category for the Diversity Visa but only have this post and a previous one in it so far.  Type ‘diversity visa lottery’ into our search function for the many posts prior to the creation of the category.

The Cubans are coming, but how many?

A reminder as you read this story:  “Economic migrants” are not refugees or asylees.  Refugees must prove that they are being persecuted, not simply that they want a better life economically and a job (or social services!).

Breitbart posted this UPI story over the weekend, and just now I wanted to check my usual places where I find statistics (and where I’ve told you to find stats) on arrivals, but all I get now is some DOTNETNUKE server telling me I have to download something else to get to the WRAPS website. See what you get when you go to www.wrapsnet.org.    Of course it could be me, but I am assuming the State Department is now making it harder for us to see the numbers.

So, that’s  one more reason why it’s important for the Office of Refugee Resettlement to do its job—required by law!—to send an annual report to Congress, as I mentioned here yesterday so that the Congress and you—the taxpayer—know how many you are paying for.  They have not followed the law for all of Obama’s years in office! and the squishes in Congress don’t demand it!

Here is the Breitbart post on Cuba:

The number of Cubans arriving in the United States without visas has risen sharply in the past year, U.S. officials say.

There has been a surge in Cubans traveling to the United States from other countries — including Spain, Ecuador, Mexico and Canada — the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported. Greater numbers are also traveling by boat to Florida.

[….]

About 20,000 Cubans arrive every year on scheduled flights from Havana with visas. No one keeps an exact count of the others, but refugee groups estimate it is about 10,000 a year.

The Coast Guard detained 1,275 Cubans on boats intercepted before they reached Florida in the 12-month period ending Sept. 30. That was the highest number since 2008.

“The influx of Cubans into the U.S. is increasing,” said Ernesto Cuesta, who runs programs for Haitian and Cuban refugees for the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in Miami. The young people we are seeing are desperate. There is no hope in Cuba.”  [The Bishops should know since they are a federal contractor paid to take care of them—ed]

The hundreds of comments to the article are more interesting then this confusing story.

One commenter says that contrary to popular wisdom that Cuban-Americans vote  largely Republican, not so this time (Romney won Cuban Americans in Florida by a tiny margin, here).  Another says that non-citizen Cubans (refugees are not automatically citizens!) are voting in Florida and another, ‘Rushbabe’, (on why they are here and coming in larger numbers) says:  Freebies, from our newly re-elected Santa Claus.

To get an idea of how many Cubans are entering the US through the refugee program, you will have to visit the most recent annual report to Congress, here, for 2008 because I can’t get to that WRAPS website I mentioned above.  (The Obama Administration owes Congress for 2009, 2010, 2011 and soon 2012).   There are only two possibilities for why these have not been completed—incompetence or they are hiding something.

Oh, and by the way, we have a refugee office in Cuba processing “refugees” into the US.

Go to the Appendix Tables, here (scroll down to near the end of the report).  On page A-1 (Table I) you can see that we brought over 345,000 Cubans through the refugee program into the US from 1983-2008.   That’s about 13,000 on average per year.  However, note that in 2008, the number has risen to 23,000 plus (and for the previous five years the numbers were over 20,000 each year).

Again, these are just the “refugee” numbers for Cubans, not numbers for all those who came into the US illegally.  As refugees they are eligible for most of the welfare goodies we offer—food stamps, Section 8 housing, medical care, SSI, education and the list goes on!

Now check out Table II and you can see that most went to Florida.   But, you should really enjoy checking out who all went to your state!

ORR: Happy New (fiscal) Year newsletter reminds me…..

Where are the annual reports to Congress?

The Office of Refugee Resettlement (in the Department of Health and Human Services) periodically sends out a newsletter with some glowing reports about the program.

Here is one item in the recent newsletter that caught my eye and reminded me to ask:  WHERE ARE THE ANNUAL REPORTS TO CONGRESS FOR ALL OF OBAMA’S YEARS IN OFFICE-–2009, 2010, 2011 (and soon they will be due 2012) required by law?

There are only two answers why this LEGAL requirement is not being fulfilled—sheer incompetence, or they are hiding something!

The last report filed by Eskinder Negash’s ORR is 2008, here.  If you are not familiar with these reports, have a look at that one.  They have to report among many things the amount of welfare refugees are receiving and their employment status.  I think the numbers are so bad, they are just not doing the report.  And, NO ONE IN CONGRESS ASKS FOR IT!

This (below) is from the newsletter.  This sure doesn’t look like 100% employment to me!

ORR is pleased to see the national voluntary agencies (volags)* reporting strong outcomes for refugee employment in the 3rd trimester of FY2012, with many affiliates achieving 100% employment for their caseloads.

As the final reports come in, here’s a sample of their successes:

World Relief:

874 clients enrolled
64% self-sufficient @ 120 days
74% self-sufficient @ 180 days

USCRI:

1811 clients enrolled
61% self-sufficient @ 120 days
75% self-sufficient @ 180 days

EMM:

1168 clients enrolled
49% self-sufficient @ 120 days
71% self-sufficient @ 180 days

For more information about ORR’s Matching Grant program, and full program statistics, please visit the Matching Grant page on the ORR website.

Now here is what you need to ask about these facts.

~ Those numbers sure don’t look like 100% to me, do they to you?

~ Where are the stats for the other federal contractors?  There are nine right now, here.  For their “sample” did they only select the best.  Of course they did!

~ No one is keeping track of refugees receiving food stamps (or probably other state-administered welfare either), so when they say self-sufficient, how do the contractors know?

***Update from a reader named ‘tomasrose’***

The volags talk about the number of “self-sufficient” refugees they have placed. You can be in public housing, receiving food stamps, medicaid, free lunches, cell phones plus CASH from SSI and be considered officially “self-sufficient”. The only program that makes you not “self-sufficient” is TANF [Temporary Assistance for Needy Families—ed]

~ How do we know that the contractors don’t just get refugees a little job just in time for the contractor to report that their refugees are working?  That is one of their tricks—get the refugee doing anything to collect a pay check even for a very short time.

* New readers, it’s very funny that they call these federal refugee contractors VOLAGS (short for Voluntary Agency).  They are contractors receiving in some cases over 90% of their funding from you—the taxpayer.  They would like you to think that this was all some sort of private charity, but it isn’t!

Renewed effort on US mass immigration policy

Because I’m overloaded, and the time I spend researching and writing this blog and the other blog I publish(ed) consumes my free time (this is a volunteer effort after all!), I’ve decided to take a break from writing about national and Maryland political issues generally to re-focus my efforts here at RRW where we discuss legal immigration programs that are changing your towns and cities.

Except for occasional mentions at the websites of large immigration restriction groups, there is very little written on a daily basis to educate citizens about the negative side of legal immigration (except VDARE!).  LOL!  The goal here is to balance the news being fed to you daily by mainstream media stories about the American melting pot mythology (you know! ‘nation of immigrants,’ blah! blah! blah!).

Here is what reader, Paul, said when I announced a hiatus at Potomac Tea Party Report.  I believe this is right on!

I think you’re 100% correct to focus on the immigration issue. Bad laws can be repealed, evil politicians can be voted out, stolen lands can be reclaimed and lost fortunes rebuilt. But a lost people are lost forever.

It should be clear to all after the recent election results that  the Socialist/Communist/Islamist Left (with some help from the corporatist Right) isn’t so much changing minds as they are changing the people—including the make-up of the US population.  In addition to turning a blind eye to illegal immigration, the US government provides myriad programs through which third worlders are entering the US (besides the Refugee Resettlement Program) and people need to learn about them.  Surely, some of those new immigrants are here to try to improve their lives through hard work, but there are many more who are here for a handout (sorry to sound so harsh, but it’s the truth).

You can’t have mass immigration and a welfare state (for long)! (ask Sweden, Denmark, the UK, France, Belgium, Spain, Greece, etc.)

We also need to understand that there are government contractors and political operatives who have other agendas for the people they are importing, and using.

I humbly encourage everyone to find your niche, and focus on something that will help America survive the coming onslaught.  It’s fun and tempting to be a news junky, a gadfly and to pontificate across a whole range of issues, but we need workers/researchers to focus and educate (through blogging, facebook, opinion writing for your local paper, etc) the public on specific topics on which you have become the expert.   Remember, there are no real investigative journalists anymore in the mainstream media.  (Where are the investigations of food stamp trafficking fraud for instance?)

For new readers:  We have written 4,350 posts to date (since July 2007).  We’ve had 1.3 million readers since we began and they come from all over the world.   There are 52 categories in which those posts have been sorted.  Also, the search function here is very good, so type in a few words about what you are looking for and I feel sure you will find the information.

Sweden “harassing” Iraqi asylum seekers

The charge is from an Iraqi “human rights” group of course.   Here is what their spokesman says:

Saying that there were too many foreign asylum seekers in Sweden is not “a good enough reason”…..

According to his logic, no western country can turn off the spigot even as its country is overrun.

From Azzaman:

The Swedish authorities are using coercive and inhumane measures to force Iraqi refugees to leave, an Iraqi human rights group said.

“Swedish behavior towards Iraqi refugees is tough and the (Swedish) authorities are using coercive and inhumane methods to compel them to leave the country,” the Iraqi Human Rights Observatory Group said in a statement.

The group’s remarks come as the Swedish police have been rounding up Iraqis seeking asylum, including children, and sending them home by force.

For the past few years, Sweden has been rejecting most applications by Iraqi refugees for asylum and issuing court orders to have them expelled from the country.

[….]

Saadi, a former chairman of the Iraqi bar, said the Swedish authorities should be prosecuted for their practices against Iraqi refugees.

He called on Sweden to put a halt to its current policy vis-à-vis Iraqi refugees and stop sending them home by force.

Saying that there were too many foreign asylum seekers in Sweden is not “a good enough reason” to deny Iraqi asylum seekers the permit to stay, he added.

Why do they want to go to Sweden in such a big way—-because the “living is easy”.

Remember folks—a country cannot survive mass immigration into a welfare state.  Eventually the country runs out of money.

Type ‘Sweden’ into our search function for dozens more posts on the country being over-run by mostly Muslim “refugees” and illegal aliens.
