OTTAWA — Canada is tightening the screws in its evaluation of immigration and refugee applications, setting up a new information-sharing system with the United States.
Under proposed regulations published Saturday, Canadian and U.S. authorities will share the biographical information of immigration, refugee, work permit and visa applicants with each other by November.
Canadian officials say the biggest benefit will be “an increase in the number of identified and prevented ineligible refugee claimants, and a decrease in the volume of crime as a greater number of known criminals who would have otherwise gained access to Canada would be denied entry.”
As I have mentioned on previous occasions, at least the media in Canada is willing to report on topics like this one! I would like to know if anyone sees this story published on the US side of the border!
Kenya is home to one of the largest refugee camps in the world!
But, the Somalis living there may not be so “welcome” in the wake of al-Shabaab’s attack on Nairobi’s Westgate Mallwhich resulted in scores of deaths of innocent shoppers and suggestions are being made to send the Somalis housed there back to Somalia.
Of course the human rights industrial complex is already screeching about any such suggestion.
(GIN) Kenyan parliamentarians are threatening to close Dadaab, the world’s largest refugee camp, which is home to about half a million Somalis forced to flee to Kenya because of a war at home with insurgents under the Islamist Al-Shabab.
The closure threats follow the siege and massacre at a Nairobi shopping mall by the Somali Islamists who took their war against a western-backed government in the Somali capital of Mogadishu into Kenya. Foreign fighters including Kenyans and Ethiopians have been defending the Somali government since 2011 although the “government” controls only a very small part of the country.
Taking responsibility for the attack, Al-Shabab Islamists said it was in retaliation for Kenya’s military involvement in Somalia.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta responded: “If their desire is for Kenya to pull out from Somalia, my friends all they need to do is what they should have done 20 years ago, which is to put their house in order and Kenya will come back to Kenya.”
A “breeding ground for terrorists” (and a source of refugees for the US):
Over the weekend, a Kenyan official suggested that the Dadaab refugees were the obstacle to peace. The refugee camp, located in northern Kenya, was a “breeding ground for terrorists”, he alleged.
But the prospect of closing the camp has alarmed Human Rights Watch who warn it would inflame further instability in Somalia.
Speaking of the Kenyan killers, has anyone seen an OFFICIAL report yet on whether American Somalis were among the Islamic terrorists?

St. Cloud is a city on the Mississippi River in central Minnesota with a population of about 66,000. Although no one seems to have the definitive answer (a published number that I could find!), I’m told the Somali population has grown to over 10,000. Now the Somalis want a mosque, a school and an entire Islamic complex in the middle of a residential neighborhood.

Organized opposition (see below for their website) has grown and tonight the City Council could vote (after hearing from residents) to support their Planning Commission’s recommendation for the Mosque and School portion of the proposed plan.

Were they planning a city within a city for THEIR people?
One of the first questions I have is where is all the money coming from for this ambitious project? Saudi Arabia? The city’s Somali population has grown rapidly in only a few years and is largely made up of ‘poor’ “refugees,” right? Primary employment for Somalis in the area is in meatpacking. They can’t possibly be getting rich doing that!

And, if you are wondering how so many Somalis got there—thank the US State Department and their contractors, specifically Lutheran Social Service! St. Cloud had originally been a secondary migration site, but in 2010 the US State Department made it a primary resettlement city, meaning Somalis were being settled there directly from Africa rather than having migrated to St. Cloud from another US city. But, if you really want to do something more permanent—someone needs to thoroughly research how St. Cloud is being changed by Muslim migrants and write a book about it and get as much media attention as possible for its release.
A friend asked me in an e-mail this morning about how one reaches Members of Congress on what is happening and how they are funding community organizing by Muslim groups, and I told her that they aren’t going to listen until the issue gets to the national stage. A book would help get it there. And, hey, the book could include several other small cities being transformed—Lewiston, ME comes to mind! Update! how about Ft. Morgan, CO too!
