Polio, the crippling virus driven to the brink of extinction, may return to Europe as regional conflicts undermine a US$10-billion eradication campaign.

Polio’s re-appearance in Syria last month after a 14 year absence raises the risk that the virus will hitch a ride on unsuspecting refugees fleeing the country and return to areas, including Europe, that have been polio-free for decades, according to a letter published in the The Lancet medical journal Friday.
“Polio is making a comeback,” Martin Eichner, a professor at the University of Tuebingen who co-authored the letter to The Lancet, said Friday. Eichner and a German colleague warned that the vaccine used in the U.S. and Europe offers only partial protection against infection and called for heightened screening of sewage systems near refugee settlements in Turkey and Jordan. Syrian war refugees, moreover, have begun arriving in Western Europe, including Sweden and Germany.
Syria isn’t the only area where poliomyelitis, as the disease is formally known, is rearing its head. It has resurfaced in the Horn of Africa as well as in sewage samples in Israel and Egypt.
Muslim extremists killing vaccinators in Pakistan!
Genetic analysis suggests the virus responsible for the cases in Syria is the same as the one found in Israel and Egypt, and came from Pakistan.

Twenty-two vaccinators have been murdered in Pakistan since December, and militants in North Waziristan have banned vaccination in the area, he said.

It is exceedingly clear that the average Englishman is getting fed up with the absorption of more immigrants to the UK than the country could afford.Of late, Eastern Europeans have started to swamp London towns, as legal migrants under the EU agreements. There is a certain amount of disquiet among the British public when these latest type of migrants grab many jobs, which the British people used to do, by undercutting existing labour charges. These new groups also get preferential treatment in housing, employment, as much as in unemployment and social benefits in the UK which is causing uneasiness!
Illustrating the British general feelings of the treatment and benefits what the refugees enjoy at present, a carefully worded email is doing the rounds at present, which hit my mail box this week. The message trying to convey to the public through a picture of ‘old white pensioners’ in a boat in mid sea depicting the ‘boat people to Australia’ is somewhat hilarious and written in lighter vein, but it portrays the feelings and predicament of the UK pensioners in a rather subtle form.
The email reads as follows: “The Royal Navy intercepted three boatloads of people off the coast of Kent today. This placed the Royal Navy in an awkward position, as the boats were not heading to, but away from Kent towards France”.
“Another surprise finding was that they were loaded with British people who were all seniors of pension age. Their claim was that they were trying to get to Calais so as to be able to return to the UK as illegal immigrants and therefore be entitled to far more benefits than they were receiving as legitimate UK pensioners.”
Now to the more serious news from Calais where the asylum seeker ‘crisis’ we reported here is clearly still unresolved.
The Mayor of Calais wants to put a stop to the “squats” being aided by British Open Borders Leftists.
Calais is becoming a lawless town with ‘no security’ because of masses of migrants seeking to cross the Channel into Britain, the port’s mayor says.
Natacha Bouchart blamed British activists from the anarchist group No Bordersfor helping migrants set up illegal squats in unoccupied flats, houses and commercial property in central Calais.
The group, which campaigns for an end to immigration controls, is trying to give the migrants shelter in France before they attempt their illegal entry into the UK.
Mrs Bouchart, 50, has previously blamed Britain’s asylum and benefits system for ‘imposing’ hundreds of illegal migrants on her city.
She said the number of people trying to make it across the Channel was becoming ‘untenable’ and radical action was needed.
In a move that has caused controversy in France, she made a plea to residents to report squats used by UK-bound illegal immigrants so that they can be shut down.

She called the dozens of squats ‘a plague which is spreading to the town centre, disturbing the peace of residents and tarnishing the town’s image’.

Frankly, I don’t have a lot of sympathy for the employer—DHL Global Mail—since they were apparently unaware of the Somali penchant for setting up such claims against employers once enough of them were hired to make an impact on the workplace. Don’t DHL head-honchos read RRW?
CINCINNATI — For more than three years, Mohamed Maow worked at DHL Global Mail in Hebron, Ky. He said he earned $11.57 an hour to sort mail and was paid time-and-a-half for overtime.
Maow, 27, a refugee from Somalia who came to the U.S. in 2007, said he never received any negative comments about his performance.
Yet on Oct. 9, after he said DHL supervisors reversed a policy of flexible break times that allowed Maow and fellow Somalis time to pray, he was among two dozen Muslims fired for stopping to say five-minute evening prayers required by their religious beliefs.
What a surprise! CAIR Ohio comes to the rescue!
Maow’s is one of 11 complaints filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission – of an expected 24 total – that allege DHL Global Mail fired a group of Somali Muslims for exercising their legally protected religious rights.
The Ohio chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) has filed the EEOC complaints on behalf of the fired workers.
“We are requesting all available remedies allowed under Title VII (of the federal Civil Rights Act of 1964) and the Kentucky Civil Rights Act, including but not limited to: damages, reinstatement where appropriate and policy changes to ensure that all worker’s civil rights are respected,” said Booker Washington, CAIR staff attorney. The article goes on to say that about 400 Somalis have moved into Erlanger (the friendship city!) and Florence, Kentucky.

LEWISTON — A local man was indicted on assault charges Wednesday, accused in a September stabbing he claims was self-defense.
Mahad Hassan, 25, of 214 Blake St., was indicted by an Androscoggin County grand jury on charges of aggravated assault and elevated aggravated assault.
Hassan is accused of using a broken bottle to stab 33-year-old Abdi Bihi in the face, neck, arms and back on the evening of Sept. 3 inside Hassan’s apartment.
Bihi survived his injuries. At a later court appearance, Hassan claimed he was forced to stab Bihi when the man came at him in a threatening manner.
Hassan has remained jailed since his arrrest.

Police believe at this time that it was a murder-suicide, but can’t figure out who did the shooting—the mother or the father (Mohammad Walji)? Doesn’t that seem strange? Surely someone must have been holding a gun (or had it close enough to their body to be clearly the shooter).

And, then what is the motive?
There is some suggestion that even after 15 years in Canada they had not received legal status, was that it? Or, was their handicapped Canadian daughter becoming too Western in her appearance and approach to life? Was it an honor killing? If anyone sees an update on the story, please send it my way.
A funeral Tuesday at an Ismaili Muslim mosque in Toronto will bring to a close the tragic lives of a Tanzanian refugee family from London, Ont., found dead last Thursday in what police describe as a double murder and suicide.
But troubling questions will remain, as detectives try to sort out who was the shooter, and whether there was some kind of suicide pact, or any indication of motive, mental illness, or other relevant circumstance.
London police will confirm little about the investigation, but one thing seems likely — that 21-year-old Qyzra Walji, a severely disabled young woman with cerebral palsy who graduated high school this year and has written movingly about her new life in Canada, was killed by one of her parents.
I wonder what was holding up their permanent residency? Heck, Canada must have already invested much in the daughter’s health, and she appears to have been an intellectual asset to the handicapped community there.
The Walji family came to Canada 15 years ago as refugees from Tanzania, and feared deportation as they spent thousands on immigration counsel, seeking permanent residency.
Wikidpedia tells us that Tanzania is 37% Muslim which surprised me, I assumed it was a smaller percentage of the population.
