Cedar Rapids, Iowa: Rwandan refugee charged with naturalization fraud

The next time you hear one of the advocates for refugee resettlement claim that the screening is very thorough, remember this case!

Can you believe it? Ken Ngombwa allegedly lied to get into the US as a refugee.

CEDAR RAPIDS — A Cedar Rapids man who is originally from Rwanda was charged Tuesday in federal court with naturalization fraud.

Ken Ngombwa, 54, is charged with one count of unlawfully procuring or attempting to procure naturalization or citizenship; one count of procuring citizenship to which he was not entitled; one count of conspiracy to unlawfully procure citizenship; and one count of making a materially false statement to agents of the United States, according to an indictment.

The indictment said Ngombwa attempted to obtain citizenship for himself and family members who accompanied him to the United States from Rwanda from March 1998 through Nov. 19, 2004.

Ngombwa and others allegedly made a number of false statements to U.S. immigration authorities, who decided to grant Ngombwa refugee status and permanent resident alien status, which permitted him to become a citizen.

According to the indictment, Ngombwa claimed he was the brother of Faustin Twagiramungu, a former prime minister of Rwanda.

Ngombwa appeared in court Tuesday and was released on bond. He was ordered to surrender any passport or travel documents, stay in Linn County, have no contact with potential witnesses and undergo a mental health evaluation.

If convicted, Ngombwa faces up to 30 years in federal prison and a $1 million fine. He also faces loss of citizenship. [So we get to pay for him in prison for 30 years?—ed]

Ngombwa also faces second-degree arson and insurance fraud charges in Linn County District Court. He is accused of setting multiple fires in his home in July 2013 and giving his insurance provider false information about the fire.

So will he and his extended family be deported?

I think the US State Department should be responsible for paying for all of the legal costs associated with THEIR mistake.

I know it is still our tax dollars no matter what federal or state jurisdiction foots the bill, but I would still like to see these criminal cases paid for out of the US State Department’s budget.  Maybe they could even reimburse Iowa, Linn County and the city of Cedar Rapids for anything this liar cost the local and state government, even all the welfare they probably are still receiving.

Russia fed up with too many illegal migrants; rights group says xenophobia is rampant

It is rare to see news from Russia about its illegal migrant problem, but here is a story from Monday that appeared in my alerts.  Eroding social cohesion there too?

From IPS News (emphasis is mine):

MOSCOW, Nov 3 2014 (IPS) – Immigrants in Russia could face a wave of violence following thousands of arrests in a crackdown on illegal immigration which has been condemned not only for human rights breaches but for entrenching a virulent negative public perception of migrants.

More than 7,000 people were arrested across Moscow – and more than 800 already served with deportation orders – under Operation Migrant 2014 which ran between Oct. 23 and Nov. 2 in the Russian capital.

The scale of the operation and methods used by the authorities has left international and local rights organisations outraged.

They say police used violence during raids on thousands of locations, including work places, markets, lodgings, hotels and people’s homes. They said that some migrants were forcibly taken from their families with no information given to relatives of where they were being taken.

Some were deported without proper procedures being observed, according to local lawyers while others claim many of an estimated up to 100,000 migrants detained had money confiscated by police before being released without their detention being recorded.

Tolekan Ismailova, vice-president of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), said: “This is simply an institutionalised way of intimidating migrants and their families. The operation violates Russia’s international obligations to respect human dignity and ban the practice of arbitrary detentions.”

But beyond the rights abuses, the highly-publicised raids are, critics argue, also helping foment and entrench a xenophobic attitude to migrants in wider society that increases the risk of violence against them.

Ismailova told IPS: “Operations like this only reinforce negative images of migrants in Russia and increase violence towards them. Once Russians see images of the raids in the news they will rally to support the government’s actions.”

The warnings come amid hardening attitudes towards what some Russian MPs estimate to be as many as 10 million migrants across Russia.

Remember the Refugee Resettlement program, as we know it (run by federal contractors with vested financial interests in bringing in more and more immigrants), has been around for nearly 35 years and has marched on under the radar and unchallenged until recent years.  Remember that it was Pres. George W. Bush who presided over the three biggest years in which Somalis (for instance) were admitted to the US.

For avid followers of RRW there is (in my view) only one way to slow this program and that is for you to continue to be vocal where you live, demand accountability from all those pushing to overload your towns and cities, and continue to develop ‘pockets of resistance’ until the point in time when Washington is forced to listen.

And, then the next step after that is to get the first-ever serious Congressional oversight hearings of the whole original law created by Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden and signed by Jimmy Carter—the Refugee Act of 1980—which has never been thoroughly reviewed with an eye to reform or complete repeal.

By the way, if Obama succeeds in shoving amnesty down our throats, it will only serve to create more anger toward immigrants (and their supporters) in general.  And, Republicans who think they can negotiate and capitulate to the Obama immigration agenda in order to take immigration off he table for 2016 will be stunned and shocked as the issue will not go away.

How much immigration we allow going forward is the most important decision our government will make in determining whether America survives or it doesn’t.  You must stay in the fight!

Oxford professor says England must slow immigration; social cohesion eroding

Writing at The Guardian, Oxford professor Paul Collier says that England must slow the flow of immigrants into the tiny country.

It is worth reading the whole thing, but here (below) is one small snip to give you the flavor.

He says that British political activists (UKIP) who focus largely on the economic costs to Britain are missing the much larger impact that the size and diversity of the immigrant population will have on social cohesion going forward.

The important effects of immigration are social and long term, not economic and short term. The key long-term social effects are probably on the overall size of the population and its diversity. As to population size, Britain is already one of the most crowded countries in Europe, and there is a sound environmental argument for protecting quality of life by discouraging further substantial increases. As to diversity, it involves a trade-off: as it increases, variety is enhanced but cohesion reduced. Variety is good but, unfortunately, as cohesion erodes voters become less willing to support generous welfare programmes.

In my view, not only will voters not want to support welfare programs (isn’t that economic?), but there will be increasing tension, conflict and potentially violence as Brits look at immigrants as invaders.

Why do we write about refugees, asylum seekers, and illegal migration in Europe and other first-world countries?  So that you can see what is in store for America—the only difference between them and us is our size and the fact that in Europe the number of immigrants is so large in comparison to the native population that the impact is being felt sooner.  But, we are getting there!

Some US cities are already there—Minneapolis for instance!
