Minnesota County Plans to Vote on Refugee Resettlement Permission on Tuesday

This news was a surprise.  I had been assuming all along that since the President’s Executive Order had been halted in the courts and that the Chinese virus crisis had halted almost all (but not all!) refugee resettlement that county governments had simply swept the sore subject under the proverbial rug.

Not so in St. Louis County, MN where a vote is expected on Tuesday although the public will not be there as they were here in January (seems strange that there were actually crowded meetings like this only a few months ago!):

Such meetings a thing of the past?

From the Duluth News Tribune:

Controversial county board meeting moved out of Buhl

Meetings will still be held online. Tuesday’s proceedings on refugee resettlement consent had figured to draw a large crowd.

The St. Louis County Board has seen its controversial upcoming Tuesday meeting moved out of Buhl and made online-only. The online meeting will emanate from the Virginia [MN] Government Services Center, county administration said in a news release Wednesday.

Meetings at the courthouse in Duluth and other locations throughout the county have been moved online for the past two months, since the county’s emergency declaration in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We want to make sure everyone is safe,” Commissioner Frank Jewell, representing downtown Duluth, said during an online board workshop Tuesday, May 19.

Commissioner Keith Nelson, of Virginia, has been adamant the meeting — scheduled for the Buhl Senior Center and set to address the politically charged issue of refugee resettlement consent — should be a physical meeting held in public.

Earlier this month, he described the idea of moving the meeting as “a travesty.”

“We listened for many hours on multiple occasions to folks very much in support of this resolution,” Nelson said May 12. “I have listened to many hours, too, from constituents of mine that are absolutely not in support. They are asking when do they get their turn?”

The subject of refugee settlement consent had been tabled to Tuesday, May 26, during a board meeting in Duluth in January, following three hours of public testimony. Other board meetings, including one in Hibbing prior to COVID-19 restrictions, have also included several members of the public addressing the refugee resettlement issue. Citizens to date have been predominantly in favor of consenting to refugee resettlement.

[….]

The issue of refugee resettlement consent sprang up last winter, after President Donald Trump issued an executive order requiring counties to consent to resettlement. Notably, Beltrami County in Minnesota voted against giving its consent. Many counties, including neighboring Carlton County, declined to take it up after a federal judge blocked the order, nullifying the need for boards to act.

Still, because the St. Louis County Board tabled its consent resolution, it will come up Tuesday.

Citizens of St. Louis County have a few days to comment!

In its news release Wednesday, the county said citizens can submit public comments for the public comment portion or for specific board agenda items prior to the meeting by emailing them to publiccomment@stlouiscountymn.gov, or by calling 218-726-2110 and leaving a recorded comment, or by raising your “virtual hand” while using the Webex software during the board meeting.

More here.

I have no idea of where the Executive Order court case stands these days, but with the COVID slowdown and a Presidential election in a few short months, there is not much happening with the UN/US Refugee Resettlement Program.

I do know this!  If Joe Biden (or any Dem wins in November) the refugee floodgates will be thrown open.

Hard Left Groups Tell Biden to Admit 125,000 Refugees the First Year, More Later!

In a letter to their candidate to defeat Donald Trump in November, 51 of the hardest left groups in the US tell Biden what they want from him if he is elected.

They’re baaack—the Code Pinkers!

The Hill has a story here, but it took me a while to find the letter the stories all reference.  I found it at HuffPo, here.

The Hill:

Liberal groups ask Biden to support progressive foreign policy agenda

The liberal groups are now asking Biden to support 10 key measures they say will usher in a new progressive vision for U.S. foreign policy…

[….]

The liberals are asking Biden to admit at least 125,000 refugees in his first year in office, and to increase refugee numbers every year after.

That is nothing new.  Somehow 125,000 has become the Open Borders magic number for refugees.  What was surprising, when I finally found the letter, is that none of the nine federal refugee contractors signed it.

Here is what the letter says and the list of those who signed it. You will notice that they use the Chinese virus and Climate change as a way to tie their demands together.

This is the wording of the immigration section:

Rejecting discriminatory immigration policies and supporting refugees

We call on you to repeal the Muslim, African, refugee, and asylum bans, restore access to asylum, and support a robust refugee resettlement program. This includes a commitment to admit at least 125,000 refugees in your first year in office, increasing refugee admissions every year, and investing in infrastructure needed to rebuild our refugee resettlement program and restore U.S. leadership on refugee protection given that we are now facing the worst global displacement crisis in history. As we urge other countries to admit and protect refugees, the U.S. must also ensure all asylum seekers have a meaningful opportunity to be heard before a judge and utilize community-based alternatives to immigration detention.

If you are a one issue voter, then this is all you need to know about Joe Biden and those who hope to put him in the White House—refugee resettlement will be on steroids in January 2021.

You may have noticed that I have a category for the 2020 Presidential campaign where you can see some of my posts on the topic recently and expect to see more archived there in the coming weeks and months.

Lutheran Refugee Agency Blasts Trump (again) Over Proposed Immigration Ban

In their usual knee-jerk response, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service came right out of the box on Monday (before anything is even on paper) to blast the President over a reportedly non-existent ban on immigration to America during the Chinese virus crisis.

Never mind that the President’s draft plan is pablum (see my comments at Frauds and Crooks earlier).  You would think by now the President should know that walking down the middle on an issue of great importance—in my view the most important issue for the future of America—he would understand that the middle of the road means you are road kill (targeted for death from both sides).

He is getting it from the Right and from the Left on the immigration ban issue.

Here are the Lutherans, from Relevant:

[By the way, if you think this group is financially suffering during the Trump years, you are wrong. The ‘religious’ charity which is 85-90% federally funded is doing just fine.  See here. It is insane that you pay their salaries as they denigrate the President and us!]

Lutheran Group Has Condemned Trump’s Plan to Suspend Immigration During the Pandemic

Krish O’Mara Vignarajah is a former staffer of Michelle Obama

One group pushing back is the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service, which called on the White House to continue to welcome asylum seekers and refugees during the pandemic. “America has always been able to respond to crises while upholding its obligations to the most vulnerable refugees and asylum seekers,” wrote LIRS President Krish O’Mara Vignarajah. “How can we shut our borders at the same time as our leaders openly encourage protests and the reopening of businesses like gyms and bowling alleys? To imply that immigrants are a threat to the vibrance and prosperity of America’s workforce is a xenophobic talking point — proven false time and time again.”

Ho hum, what else would you expect. Free speech, right!

She can blast the Prez all she wants on her private dime. The maddening thing is that you, the taxpayers of America, pay her salary. Three years ago Trump should have figured out how to shut down their funding.

By the way, I expect some of you are reading this now and saying—well who the heck are you going to vote for other than Trump?

Of course there is no question I still support the President, but Trump and all politicians need to know that in order to have an energized base they need to take strong positions—no one is going to go out and knock themselves out campaigning for middle-of-the-roaders.

Writer: Get Ready for Climate Refugees!

You are getting old says George Washington University grad student Rosemary Dent so the US must get ready for the climate refugee migration which will supply America with a whole younger generation of (diverse!) workers to help pay for us geezers.

Don’t say I didn’t warn you!

I’ve been warning for years that the Leftwing media has been busy dropping information like rabbit turds about how the US (and the western world) has a whole new migration crisis brewing from those on the move due to changes in the weather.

The ‘droppings’ approach is how they do it. Day after day, year after year, they drop their nuggets of propaganda until one day whatever it was they were promoting becomes common knowledge.

COVID-19 shows how unprepared the US is for waves of migrants arriving on our shores, says Ms. Dent.

From International Policy Digest (a publication based in Richmond, VA):

Preparing for the Impacts of Climate Migration

Rosemary Dent

As the impacts of climate change become more severe and widespread, the United States must prepare for the resulting surge of human migration. Climate scientists are currently predicting that both primary and secondary impacts of climate change will collectively produce 140–200 million climate refugees by 2050. This sharp increase, if mismanaged, would likely overwhelm refugee processing systems, flood points of entry to the United States and strain both society and the economy.

In order to protect the United States from these potential shocks, the government must begin to prepare the appropriate infrastructure, processes, and funding for integrating climate refugees into the population. As the coronavirus ravages the country, it is highlighting many of the systemic failures that occur when the government is not adequately prepared or pro-active.

In 1990, the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) recognized human migration as the biggest impact of climate change. The IPCC predicted that primary impacts like shoreline erosion, coastal flooding, and agricultural disruptions would create massive disruptions to the livelihoods of millions. The resulting secondary impacts relate to the effects on society globally; such as political unrest, food insecurity, and mass migrations. As four out of five refugees flee on foot to nations bordering their home country, most human migration is localized to areas affected by conflict. However, as climate change affects communities globally, the flows of refugees will no longer be concentrated to conflict zones and their surrounding nations, bringing the issue to U.S. borders. The sheer scale of migration that the IPCC is predicting renders any previous methods of dealing with refugees unsuitable for this impending crisis.

In terms of physical processing capacity, the United States is currently severely unprepared.

The author goes on to tell us why we are unprepared and it has to do with Trump, of course.

Here is a prime example of the ‘droppings’ they repeat with no evidence.  It is just true because they believe it to be true!

The benefits of accepting more migrants goes far beyond economics. Studies show that increasing immigration quotas improves both economic innovation and community resilience, proving that diversity and inclusion make the United States stronger.

In view of the abundant challenges ahead for the United States, as highlighted by the current pandemic, uniting communities and reinforcing the economy to maintain employment levels will be key to survival. As a global leader in developing methods for climate change adaptation, the United States must be prepared to take these first steps.

See my ‘Climate Refugees’ category.

While we are fixated on the Coronavirus mess, don’t forget that good ol’ Uncle Joe will be expanding the refugee admissions program if the Dems regain control of the White House.

See Biden’s refugee policy.

Biden: Immigrants are the future of America, get used to it! https://www.dailywire.com/news/biden-immigrants-are-the-future-of-america-you-should-get-used-to-it

Although he didn’t jump on the ‘climate refugee’ bandwagon during the primary campaign as some other candidates did, you can be sure he will be open to it as one more excuse to expand the Democrat voter base with migrants, any migrants.

Emphasis below is mine:

Increase the number of refugees we welcome into the country. With more than 70 million displaced people in the world today, this is a moment that demands American leadership. Offering hope and safe haven to refugees is part of who we are as a country. As a senator, Joe Biden co-sponsored the legislation creating our refugee program, which Trump has steadily decimated. His Administration has reduced the refugee resettlement ceiling to its lowest levels in decades and slammed the door on thousands of individuals suffering persecution, many of whom face threats of violence or even death in their home countries. We cannot mobilize other countries to meet their humanitarian obligations if we are not ourselves upholding our cherished democratic values and firmly rejecting Trump’s nativist rhetoric and actions. Biden embraces the core values that have made us who we are and will prioritize restoring refugee admissions in line with our historic practice under both Democratic and Republican Administrations. He will set the annual global refugee admissions cap to 125,000, and seek to raise it over time commensurate with our responsibility, our values, and the unprecedented global need.

“Global need” like accommodating millions escaping changing weather patterns!
