Comment worth noting: another anti-CAIR demonstration planned today

Once again we have heard from Abdirizak Bihi, one of the Minneapolis Somali leaders who has criticized the Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) for impeding the investigation into the missing Somali, former refugee, youths believed to have gone to Somalia for terrorist training.  See Mr. Bihi’s earlier comment to RRW, here.

Mr. Bihi is urging people to attend a rally today in Minneapolis to protest “CAIR’s bullying” and to stand up to whoever is brainwashing their kids:

Freedom Rally to Protest The Murder of Burhan Hassan And the Other Somali American Kids Brainwashed and stolen from their Parents as well as C.A.I.R’ Bullying

Stand Up for The Human Rights of Burhan Hassan and The Somali Kids Stolen in the Dark of a Night from Their Mothers Who Fled With Them to USA. They (Terrorists) snatched
The Kids and Thrown them back into Hellfire That Genocides Poor, Innocent Left Behind Somalis in Somalia.

Be Present. Keep Somali American Name Up
DO NOT LET CAIR SHUT YOU UP!
DO NO Let CAIR Patronize YOU!

To readers new to this issue:   This is a big deal—it takes an enormous amount of courage for any Muslim (or any political figure for that matter!) in the US to stand up to CAIR!

Indictment coming in Minneapolis missing Somali youth case

According to Fox News an announcement is imminent in the case of former refugees* gone missing—-a case we have been following since November of last year, here.

A federal grand jury has indicted a group of Somali-Americans on terror-related charges after more than 20 young men from the Minneapolis area were recruited to join an Al Qaeda-linked group in Somalia, according to two law enforcement sources.

The indictments have yet to be unsealed, but an announcement is expected in the next few weeks. One law enforcement source told FOX News the grand jury already has handed up indictments against at least three people.

Among those charged is a man from Minneapolis who went to war-torn Somalia and then, about four months ago, relocated to Seattle, according to the two sources and a leader in the Minneapolis Somali community. The man was then arrested in a Seattle airport and transferred to a jail in Minneapolis, where he is currently being detained, according to the law enforcement sources.

The law enforcement sources said the man, described as in his 20s, has been charged with providing material support to a terrorist group, in this case al-Shabaab, which has been warring with the moderate Somali government since 2006.

Repeating the same line of naive and wishful thinking we heard throughout Senate hearings earlier this year, Janet Reno (oops Napolitano) told reporters it’s all about Somalia and not about the US.

A source told FOX News in March that “several” recruits had returned to the United States, but counterterrorism officials have repeatedly said there is no intelligence indicating that any such recruits are planning attacks within the country.

“[Their] primary focus obviously is not on the homeland, it’s abroad,” Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano said during a briefing with reporters last week. “But any time you have people who are being trained in terrorist-type activities, that’s something that needs to be monitored.”

Monitor!  Indeed!  If it turns out the mosque was involved in the recruitment then it has everything to do with us.

Jerry Gordon writing at New English Review has more on this story, here.

Note that CAIR has attempted to block this investigation, here.

*To new readers:

The US State Department has admitted over 80,000 Somali refugees to the US in the last 25 years and then last year had to suspend family reunification because widespread immigration fraud was revealed through DNA testing.

Group of Somali Americans to protest against terrorism in Somalia

Here is a press announcement from a group of Somalis in Minneapolis planning a protest against terrorism, suicide bombings and al Shabaab in Somalia.   There is a split as we revealed recently in the Somali “community” in Minnesota and it isn’t clear to me who exactly is putting on this event.   We will just have to watch for news accounts as the event unfolds.  However, if CAIR Minnesota is supporting this event, you can be sure it is bogus.   If it’s the Somali group that is accusing CAIR of blocking the FBI investigation into the Somali missing youths, then they deserve a thumbs up!

Thousands of Somali Americans in Twin cities are expected to protest Suicide radical Islam, suicide bombing, terror attacks In Somalia this Friday July 3rd 2009, from 3:00 PM- 6:00 PM.

[….]

Somali community public relations organizers are requesting that the protesters bring signs. Organizers state: The Somali-American Community in Minnesota is taking a stand and we want the world, the mainstream Community and the Somalis in the Diaspora to know our stand and strong opposition to these terrorists. The Somali-American Community in Minnesota will release a press release and voice the community stand on issues related to suicide bombings and terrorism in the protest. The Somali-American Community in Minnesota is requesting you to attend and cover the protest and to join us in the condemnation of the violent extremists and their suicide bombings.

[…..]

Suicide bombings, acts of terrorism and violent militant Islam are new and scary development unheard and unseen in Somalia and it´s an alien to the tolerant and moderate Islam Somalis practiced for centuries. Many believe the Al-Shabaab militants are allied with Al-Qaeda terrorist and trained by them.

Somalis all over the world and specially Somali-Americans in Minnesota strongly oppose these suicide bombings and acts of terrorism.

Hispanics vs. Somalis: Greeley getting ready for Round 2

Update June 30th:   The Denver Post says civil rights complaints have been filed against Swift & Co. alleging Somalis have been mistreated by Hispanic supervisors.  I realize I miss-titled this post.  It should be Somalis vs. Hispanics!

Oh boy, I predict we are going to be seeing the second round of the battle of the Hispanic workers vs. the East African workers at the Swift & Co. meatpacking plant in Greeley, CO (maybe Grand Island, NE too) as Ramadan approaches later this summer.

Isn’t diversity wonderful, doesn’t it bring such richness to communities? (sigh)  Just feel the love as multicultural workers wielding knives cut up meat side by side, or enjoy each others company in their leisure time at the local bars.  (deep sigh)

Here is an article from the Greeley Tribune today so chock full of interesting stuff I’m going to write at least two posts about it.   And, for new readers, the often violent protests and conflicts over Muslim prayer breaks gave us so much grist for our mill last year that we have an entire category on Greeley/Grand Island here.

From the Greeley Tribune today:

Since last September, JBS officials have met repeatedly with Muslim workers and union representatives to hash out issues. A company official said JBS has made progress and is making religious accommodations where possible.

Meanwhile, the Muslim employees say not much has changed inside the plant. They steadfastly place God before work and will be looking for a quiet place to pay sunset homage when the hot August sun sets this Ramadan.

It remains a heated conundrum of cultures, languages, and labor and safety issues with no easy answers. It’s anyone’s guess whether the religious observance will be a flashpoint of worker unrest again this summer.

My guess is that we are in for a hot one!   Community organizers will be sure of that—see tomorrow’s post!   June 29th:  here is the first of my follow-up posts.

I have no sympathy for the meatpacking companies who got themselves into this mess by wanting to find the cheapest labor they could find!    And, I laugh to see that the Progressives (radical leftwingers) can’t get the workers united against those evil Capitalist (Brazilian in this case) fat cats because the multicultural masses aren’t cooperating.

More clear is that fissures run through the growing polyethnic mix at the meatplants. Raul Garcia, a veteran of the Grand Island plant, said a few fights have broken out between Latinos and Somalis.

In Greeley, Alberto Trujillo, who came here 20 years ago from Chihuahua, Mexico, and put in a stint at the meatpacking plant, calls the East African workers “whiny.” He’s resentful that Mexican immigrants face a costly and time-consuming process to become legal workers, while the Africans — it can take a couple of years to get refugee status — arrive eligible to work.

Trujillo spoke while playing pool with a few friends at a downtown Latino bar.

“They can take their own time to pray, but you have to follow the rules,” he said. “And why give (Muslim workers) special preferences? As soon as they get here they don’t have to worry about their papers, right?”

Gerardo Hernandez Marquez, another Chihuahua native and former meatplant worker, carried that point further: “The Cubans barely get into the water and put one foot on this country and they’re good.”

A couple pool tables away, a group of refugees from Eritrea, another East African nation, complained that the plant is a difficult place for African workers because they aren’t hired into supervisor positions. Those jobs are held primarily by Latinos, they said.

One of the Eritreans, Azmera Gebregirgs, 26, said he got beat up by a couple of Latinos when he left the bar late at night a few months earlier. He only comes to bar now with a group of African friends.

Latinos greatly outnumber the Africans in the bar on this afternoon. The groups stick to themselves.

Marquez cast a wary eye toward the Eritreans and said, “As long as they don’t mess with us, we don’t mess with them.”

And here is the Progressive (radical leftwinger) schoolmarm:

“We’d hope that JBS as an employer would make the accommodations as necessary,” said Nicole Hurt, director of the Colorado Progressive Coalition’s northern Colorado office. “I feel it’s important for every culture in a workplace to be respected.”

Of course the great fun is going to be watching to see just how one does that—make all the diverse cultures happy at the same time!

You know what’s kind of cool about this story, you can’t blame any American white men (or women, except maybe Ms. Hurt) for this mess.    Oh well, except maybe also the do-gooder State Department types and the volags pushing refugee resettlement.

Last year I was critical of some of reporter Chris Casey’s stories, but this one is superb.

Follow up of sorts on June 30th:  For some reason lots of readers today are coming to this post from last September about ethnic violence going on in Grand Island, NE between the Somali and Sudanese Swift & Co. workers, here,

FBI looking for leads about missing Somalis in Atlanta

We previously heard about the FBI checking out Atlanta, among other cities, to try and determine if more Somali youths are missing and possibly gone to Somalia for terrorist training.  But, here is a new article today from New America Media:

CLARKSON, GA. -– In this small town on the edge of Atlanta, the FBI and local law enforcement are looking out for an alarming kind of crime: radical Islamist terrorists potentially trying to recruit the town’s young Somali-Americans to fight a war in Africa.

There is terrorist recruitment taking place already in Minnesota, said Clarkston police chief Tony J. Scipio. That’s why his department and the FBI are looking for anything similar in the Somali-American community here in Clarkston.

[…..]

To fight potential recruiters, the Atlanta FBI has spent the last several months in what the agent-in-charge called an “outreach” program to Clarkston Somali-Americans, including mosque visits and community meetings.

Lots and lots of Somalis were resettled in the Atlanta area:

Atlanta’s Somali-American community mushroomed after 1991 with arrivals of war refugees. Between 2000 and 2007 alone, the U.S. Office of Refugee Resettlement sent some 3,000 Somalis to Atlanta.

We only have a few listening!  Somali community organizer, Yonis, is talking here about anger against the US for supporting the transitional government in Somalia.

Sharmarke Yonis, of the Georgia Somali Community, a non-profit headquartered in Clarkston, says that anger doesn’t always translate into a violent act.

There’s sympathy because every religion spawns radicals who commit hate crimes, such as a person who would bomb an abortion clinic in the name of Christianity, he suggested, but emphasized that he sees no danger in Atlanta. [Well, well the old Christians are terrorists too argument!]

“In Georgia, we don’t have many, just a few listening,” Yonis said. He believes the threat is bigger in Columbus, Ohio, or Minneapolis, where the Somali-American populations measure in the tens of thousands.

Listening to who (or is it whom)?

Interesting, what did I tell you, every city with a Somali population has a Somali COMMUNITY CENTER and a community organizer probably largely funded by you—the taxpayer.

For new readers:  The US State Department has admitted over 80,000 Somali refugees to the US in the last 25 years and then last year had to suspend family reunification because widespread immigration fraud was revealed through DNA testing.
