Somali crime story of the day, this time in Canada

I was only joking the other day when I said we should have a new feature—Somali crime story of the day!   I didn’t really expect to find three stories in 3 days!  I saw this one last night but was too tired to post it then.  It is from Edmonton, Canada where the eighth Somali youth has been found dead in what is believed to be drug-related gang violence.

A 23-year-old man shot in the head Sunday afternoon as he sat in the driver’s seat of a car has been identified as Robleh Ali Mohamed .

He was known to police but they won’t disclose any others details.

Acting homicide section Staff Sgt. Dan Collins said police are trying to find witnesses to the midday murder but haven’t had much luck.

Mohamed was the eighth young man from the Somalian community to be killed in city in the past 16 months. Collins would not say whether any of them were linked to each other or to Mohamed’s death.

“We need individuals, whether they are of Somali descent or not, to come forward to the police,” he said.

Police believe it took 30 minutes after the murder for them to the called Sunday, even though there were witnesses.

Note that no one in the “Somali Community” is talking except this Somali radio talk show host who wants everyone to know that not all the cases involved gangs and drugs.

The police gangs and drugs section has been brought in to help investigate the homicide.

Jaamac Jaamac, who hosts a Somali radio show in Edmonton, said it’s important to know that not all of the Somali homicide victims have had ties to the drug trade.

I wonder how many Somali refugees and asylum seekers Canada has allowed to resettle in Canada!  Does anyone know?

By the way, I told you about this Somali gang violence in Canada over a year ago (here)—the Somali community was blaming the police for not doing enough to keep their kids out of trouble (yeh, right!).

Canada: Muslim jailed for threats of honour murder against daughter seen as ‘hero’

That’s the title blogger Grace has given to her post at Vlad Tepes blog on a legal case involving a threat of honor killing in Canada.  I’m going to add this important blog to our blogroll.

This is what Grace says regarding the article in the Ottawa Citizen about jailed cab driver,Yusef Al Mezel, an Iraqi refugee, who threatened his daughter and remains a political big shot in a Canadian cabbie union.

Maybe I need to get out more, but I don’t know any average father who has ever threatened his daughter with violence and murder. I also don’t know any average father who would toss his daughter down a flight of stairs, beat her, taunt her with vile language, follow her, send her menacing letters or threaten that male members of his extended family carry out an honour murder against her. I also don’t know any average father who would consider his daughter a shame because she chooses to exercise free choice over her own life.

Then Grace and I had the same reaction to the Ottawa Citizen report.

But perhaps the most important aspect of this story and the one we should pay closest attention to and understand fully, comes from Al-Mezel’s own parole officers assessment; that his interest and hard work in the Muslim community lies not in the religious, but in the political. It is this doctrinal, political system called Islam that his daughter has had a complete understanding of and from which, she has fled.

Use our search function to read about the many cases of honor killings by Muslim immigrants we have reported.  Most recently I reported on a USA Today story about how the evil practice is on the rise in the US, here.   I had remarked how surprised I was that a major mainstream publication would even print such a story and sure enough I gather from Jihad Watch, here, that USA Today is under attack by Islamists and Leftists for writing about it.

I continue to be perplexed about why Union types (with a far left political orientation) would defend brutality against women.  I always thought the far left defended women’s rights!  See our recent discussion on that topic here.

Canadian educators challenged by wave of Roma immigrant children

Here is an immigration issue facing Canada that I wanted to bring to your attention.  I find it interesting that educators were caught by surprise.  Is there no way in Canada (or the US for that matter) to alert school systems to expect waves of new immigrants, afterall government agencies must have granted admission to Canada for large numbers of Roma?

They are Europe’s Least Wanted – reviled for their unorthodox ways, hounded by white supremacists. Now the sudden arrival of Roma “gypsies” in Ontario has teachers here grappling to connect with some of the most perplexing students in the world.

With no English, limited education and an often shaky regard for school, the wave of Roma children give fresh urgency to the term “at-risk.” Schools across Toronto and Hamilton, caught largely by surprise, are rushing to educate staff, hire more ESL teachers and find Hungarian and Czech interpreters for everything from report cards to welcome kits.

“We’ve got major problems with this wave of students and we need help – we’ve had more than 100 kids show up this fall and our staff are scrambling,” said Trustee Irene Atkinson at a recent crash course on Roma culture organized by the Toronto District School Board, one of several this fall in Toronto and Hamilton.

Chesler: Some western countries wising up about immigrant barbarism

On the heels of the news from France last week that Sarkozy was demanding that Muslim immigrants respect French cultural  and legal practices that give rights to women and others, Phyllis Chesler tells us that Canada too is firming up its legal stance against mostly Muslim practices that brutalize women.  Hat tip:  Jawa Report

The Canadian government has just revamped its citizenship guide for immigrants. The document is titled “The Rights and Responsibilities of Canadian Citizenship.” According to Canada’s National Post:

“In Canada, men and women are equal under the law,” the document says. “Canada’s openness and generosity do not extend to barbaric cultural practices that tolerate spousal abuse, ‘honour killings,’ female genital mutilation or other gender-based violence. Those guilty of these crimes are severely punished under Canada’s criminal laws.”

Western governments are beginning to wake up to dangerous or “barbaric” practices among immigrants—especially among Muslim immigrants. Whether such practices are pre-Islamic, non-Islamic, even anti-Islamic (and people have argued all of the above), the truth is that certain “barbaric” practices are most often committed by Muslims against Muslims. Sikhs and Hindus, to a much lesser extent, also commit honor murders.

Some scholars argue that the Qu’ran specifically supports and inspires such practices; other scholars argue the opposite case. One must note that Islam has, so far, failed to educate against or abolish certain “barbarisms,” and has, instead, enshrined them in state shari’a law in Muslim states such as Iran, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Somalia, and Sudan.

But something new may finally be afoot.

Interesting that this comes to us on the heels of several cases of violence  by Muslim men against women, not the least of which is Major Hasan’s Jihad against women (including one pregnant woman) at Ft. Hood.  Then we have the recent confirmed honor killing in Arizona.  And, possible Somali honor killings in Colorado and Missouri.

So, what I would like to know is are we going to take a stand like Canada and France?

Canada’s new “immigrant” from America

Vancouver seems to have more than its fair share of possible terrorists sneaking across the border.  First, we heard about the Sri Lankan ship that came ashore with “refugees” and now we hear about a mysterious ‘American’ who was stopped while coming across the border into Canada with nearly $1 million in GOLD.

VANCOUVER, B.C. — Paranoia and naivete led a Syrian man to lie about why he was crossing the border with nearly $1 million in gold and what’s been called “terrorist resources,” says the lawyer for the man who has been held as a potential security threat since early last month.

Khaled Nawaya, a flight instructor, was arrested by Canada Border Services agents when they found $800,000 in gold coins and other currency in his car and pockets on Oct. 6, as he crossed into Surrey, B.C., near Vancouver.

“He didn’t want to be taxed on it,” lawyer Phil Rankin said Tuesday.

The Saudi-born would-be immigrant to Canada holds Syrian citizenship, but had been in the US since he was 17.    Besides the illegal amount of cash and gold he was carrying he had a few other suspicious items in his possession.

…. his actions, along with other politically-charged items found in his vehicle, are now being used by government officials to build a case depicting him as a national security threat.

The 35-year-old faces the Immigration and Refugee Board on Thursday to learn whether authorities have grounds to keep him in custody

He’d been living in the U.S. since he was 17 and had gained approval for permanent residency in Canada.

Besides the gold, Canadian agents found a ring bearing the insignia of Hezbollah, which has been listed as a terrorist organization by the Canadian government since 2002.

They also seized 9/11 conspiracy theory-themed DVDs and a scarf adorned with the images of a former Israeli prime minister and a U.S. president depicted as monkeys.

His lawyer says the items are easily explainable.  Read the whole article for the explanations!   The lawyer concludes:

“I think they’re [he and his brother in America] probably sympathetic to what’s going on in the Middle East,” he said, but that’s no indication of “sinister” activity.

Oh, and did you notice, he is a flight instructor.  Me thinks this lawyer has an uphill battle.
