Florida: 60 arrest warrants issued in food stamp fraud case

And, the convenience store owners in the $2.8 million rip-off of US taxpayers appear to be another pair of Middle Easterners.

The difference with this case is that in addition to the store owners/employees arrested, 60 people who SOLD their benefits have warrants out for their arrest in the public-assistance fraud probe called Operation Money Tree.    Arresting the sellers is rarely done, but in fact I believe it could be the greatest deterrent to the scam on-going in thousands of immigrant-run small grocery stores across America.

Editor’s note:  We cover food stamp fraud here at RRW as a side interest, but you should know that the majority of refugees in the US are on food stamps (and are hopefully using the welfare benefit for FOOD).

From The Palm Beach Post:

A tip from an angry grandmother triggered a two-year food stamp fraud investigation by local and federal authorities that Monday saw warrants issued for 60 people who authorities say cheated the system of $2.8 million.

The three men who ran the mom-and-pop grocery, Fajita’s Meat and Fish at 3921 10th Ave. North where the alleged scam took place were arrested last week and face federal charges, according to court documents. Ali Jaber, Hadi Jaber and Daniel Velazquez have run the grocery since 2006.

Investigators say people who qualified for federal food stamp cards went to the market and rather than buying groceries for their families swiped their cards for cash — an illegal use of the cards.

There is more information on this case at the Sun Sentinel.

House of Representatives holds hearing on flood in asylum claims at US border

Brenda Walker at Limits to Growth alerted us to a hearing yesterday in the House Judiciary Committee about the latest scammers at the border saying they have a “credible fear of persecution” in Mexico and want to make an asylum claim.  I couldn’t listen in, but Walker did.

Here is Walker:

On Thursday morning, the House Judiciary Committee took up the subject of Asylum Abuse: Is it Overwhelming our Borders?

For Democrats and other friends of victimhood, providing an abundant welcome for the hard-luck cases of the planet is job #1. The Dems consider a cushy reception to be far more important than public safety from hostile characters, ranging from Mexicans claiming a “credible fear” (who may be cartel members) to head-choppy jihadists from around the Muslim world. The point is that more people are gaming the system because they are often successful, and there is no penalty for attempting asylum fraud.

See Limits to Growth for links to the hearing.

Then this (below) about Chairman Goodlatte (a Boehner*** buddy or he wouldn’t be a committee chairman!) who we all know is looking for a way to get the legalization of the lawbreakers moving in his committee.

(Walker) They aren’t breaking in so they can vote in our elections!

Of course, any “legal status” that allows the aliens to get work permits and be free of worry about deportation is all the invaders care about. They didn’t break into the United States so they could vote in our elections.

[….]

You have to listen carefully when lawyers speak. Goodlatte likes to say he objects to a “special pathway” to citizenship for foreign lawbreakers, but legalization is negotiable.

Crisis! New Zealand court denies “climate refugee” claim

Yikes! Bangkok gone by 2030!  Then Bangkokians will be coming to your house to live!

The scaremongers say its bye-bye for Bangladesh and Bangkok!   And, it’s all the fault of Australia’s unwelcoming attitude toward third-worlders wishing to swamp their country.

For previous posts on “Climate refugees” including more on the legal case that just went down in flames, go here.

Here is the news at Independent Australia.   Truth be told a huge battle rages behind the scenes between the environmental industrial complex and the human rights industrial complex over the UN Convention on Refugees which focuses on “persecution” for defining what is a refugee or asylum seeker.

The New Zealand courts have denied granting asylum to a Kiribati climate refugee, but that isn’t going to stop the problem. Deputy editor Sandi Keane reports.

THIS WEEK, the High Court of New Zealand delivered a blow to a largely ignored asylum seeker problem that has been quietly bleeding and threatening to hemorrhage into a full-scale global catastrophe within two or three decades.

A 37-year-old man from the tiny, obscure nation of Kiribati, Ioane Teitiota, stood to make history as the world’s first climate refugee. He argued that global warming is a form of persecution and that those displaced by its effects should be recognized under the UN’s Refugee Convention.  However, in his judgment, Justice John Priestley said it was not the High Court’s place to alter the scope of the Refugee Convention by granting Mr Teitiota’s leave for appeal.

The judge said the enormity and scale of the problem was a fundamental reason for his decision:

“On a broad level, were they to succeed and be adopted in other jurisdictions, at a stroke, millions of people who are facing medium-term economic deprivation, or the immediate consequences of natural disasters or warfare, or indeed presumptive hardships caused by climate change, would be entitled to protection under the Refugee Convention.”

Although he has lived in New Zealand since 2007, the government has refused Mr Teitiota and his family asylum based on the current convention which was drawn up more than 50 years ago, before rising seas started threatening the 33 low-lying equatorial islands and atolls that make up the tiny nation, just under 4,000 kilometres north-east of Brisbane.

Read the remainder of the story if you wish to learn about Bangladesh and Bangkok dropping off the map someday and how mean Australia is for not letting them all come live there!

Jews and Muslims push for Comprehensive Immigration Reform

We hope so-called Comprehensive Immigration Reform is dead for now (forever!)—at least dead before the 2014 elections.  Obama’s Presidency has been so weakened in the last few months we don’t see where he has the ‘mojo’ to push a greatly expanded open borders agenda.

Former SEIU organizer, Alan van Capelle, of Bend the Arc

However, that hasn’t stopped those who want to see, not just illegals made legal, but if S.744 should become law there will be a greatly expanded asylum and refugee program (with less security screening) as well.  (See our posts on S.744 here).

Two groups joining hands to push for Open Borders are Bend the Arc (a Jewish “justice” group) and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC).

From Heritage Florida Jewish News:

WASHINGTON, D.C.—American Jews and American Muslims called on Congress in a joint statement to pass comprehensive immigration reform with a meaningful path to citizenship. In joining together as unlikely allies, Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice and the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) renewed their united push to refocus Congress’ attention on the nation’s most pressing domestic policy crisis.

The following is a joint statement from Alan van Capelle, CEO of Bend the Arc: A Jewish Partnership for Justice and Haris Tarin, director of the Washington, D.C., office of the Muslim Public Affairs Council:

“In combining our voices, we hope Congress hears that immigration reform is a priority issue across America’s many diverse communities, bringing together even those that many believe have little in common. In fact, America’s Jewish and Muslim communities share the collective experience of facing xenophobia and prejudice for their culture and faith, and being treated as outsiders in our home country.

Comprehensive immigration reform has long been a priority issue for both our communities, as many of our families share stories of immigrating to the U.S. Both of our communities have deep roots here. But both of our communities also know firsthand the struggle to find acceptance in our adopted homeland.

Blah, blah, blah…

We urge you to come together, as we have, to pass comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship, and keep America strong.”

Both Bend the Arc and the Muslim Public Affairs Council have been active in advocating for comprehensive immigration reform with a path to citizenship, citing shared values of treating others with dignity and respect, and the importance of keeping families together.

Another group pushing for more immigration (Muslims too) is the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society one of the top nine federal refugee resettlement contractors.   Here HIAS apparently had some blow-back from funders, but they are by no means out of the lobbying arena.  S.744 would reward the contractors with even more taxpayer cash!

Saudis give the heave-ho to tens of thousands of African migrants

This time, they are mostly Ethiopians who were in RICH Saudi Arabia looking for work.

Loading them up! UN doesn’t say boo! about racist Saudis! November 13, 2013 (AFP/File, Fayez Nureldine)

In my alerts this morning I see lots of stories about the UN blasting Bulgaria for not being welcoming toward the Syrians, or the UN telling the Burmese Buddhists to be nice to alien Rohingya, or the UN lecturing the EU to open its borders, but funny how there is complete silence from the UN when it comes to Saudi Arabia!   I think I hear that sound!

Here is the news from SA (Gateway Pundit has it too, hat tip: Ed):

Ethiopia has flown home over 50,000 citizens in Saudi Arabia after a crackdown against illegal immigrants in the oil-rich state, the foreign ministry said Wednesday.

“We projected the initial number to be 10,000 but it is increasing,” foreign ministry spokesman Dina Mufti told AFP, adding that the final total once the mass airlift ends is now expected to be around 80,000.

Ethiopia started repatriating citizens living illegally in Saudi Arabia after a seven-month amnesty period to formalize their status expired on November 4, sparking violent protests between Saudi police and Ethiopian migrants preparing to leave the country.

[….]

Reports of mistreatment of Ethiopians in Saudi Arabia has sparked outrage in Ethiopia.

So much for that Muslim charity the UN was crowing about here in 2009.

Why is it o.k. for Saudi Arabia to tighten its borders, deport illegal migrants and preserve its economy and national character, but not o.k. when the US, Australia or other western countries do it?  I would like George Soros to give us the answer!
