Muslim Malaysia accused of abuse of refugees and migrant workers

This is a follow-up to my post of last week when I said that the UN High Commissioner for Refugees helped perpetuate a lie when he said the inspiration for caring for refugees comes from the Islamic religion.  If it does, Muslim countries are doing a horrible job of showing their kindness and charity to strangers—even their own religious kin.  Check out this blog about Muslim Malaysia and how immigrants are treated under an Islamic governed legal system.

From Hornbill Unleashed:

Yet Malaysians treat foreigners worse than most countries in Asia. Malaysians’ fear and disdain for “the Other” people in our midst has found expression in the abuse and torture of migrant workers and refugees.

There are 171,000 refugees in Malaysia, fleeing persecution in their home countries. There are also estimated to be between two and three million migrant blue-collar workers, mostly Indonesian, Bangladeshi and Filipino, eking out a living in Malaysia.

The United States issued two reports this month, condemning Malaysia’s abuse of undocumented migrants.

The blogger goes on to discuss those reports and make this pretty powerful statement:

Malaysia’s brutal xenophobia can be partly explained by the institutionalised racism ingrained in our culture.

Gee, I wonder how it got ingrained.  Do we really think that by supporting a completely untruthful notion, that Islam is more charitable  to immigrants and refugees then Christian and Jewish religions that will help push brutal Muslim countries to be nice.  This is what commenter ‘Don’t buy it’ said at my original critical post linked above.

UNHCR is trying to encourage Muslim nations to act more muslim, to welcome the stranger and care for refugees. How did you miss the nuance in this argument.

“Nuance!”  We lie and pussyfoot around the truth and call it “nuance.”  What a bunch of chickens!   The UNHCR instead of sanctioning a lie should be telling it like it is—Muslim countries treat refugees and immigrants like slaves.  He should tell rich Arab countries like  Saudi Arabia to demonstrate their Muslim charity by taking refugees and treating them well.  Oh, and just a reminder it is Muslims who originally enslaved the Africans and still do!

UN High Commissioner for Refugees lies!

He says that Sharia law is the reason we have a refugee tradition today!   Thanks to a reader who spotted this story at Gates of Vienna yesterday.   Robert Spencer has more here at Jihad Watch.

How dare the UN perpetuate this myth.  We have pointed out many times how  Muslim countries refuse refugees and abuse, even murder, the ones they have (I’ll remind you below).   And, if you don’t believe me, ask the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) that lists at least four Muslim countries in its 2009 Refugee Survey that presently are among the worst nations on earth for refugees.

From Adnkronos International:

New York, 23 June (AKI) – The 1,400-year-old Islamic custom of welcoming people fleeing persecution has had more influence on modern international refugee law than any other traditional source, according to a new study sponsored by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).

High Commissioner Antonio Guterres said that more than any other historical source, Islamic law and tradition underpin the modern-day legal framework on which UNHCR bases its global activities on behalf of the tens of millions of people forced from their homes around the world.

This includes the right of everyone to seek asylum as well as prohibitions against sending those needing protection back into danger, Guterres said in the foreword to “The Right to Asylum between Islamic Sharia and International Refugee Law: A Comparative Study.”

In the study, Professor Abu Al-Wafa, Dean of the Law Faculty at Cairo University, describes how Islamic law and tradition respects refugees, including non-Muslims; forbids forcing them to change their beliefs; avoids compromising their rights; seeks to reunite families; and guarantees the protection of their lives and property.

This makes me spitting mad!  Let’ s see how decent Muslim countries are to refugees.

*  Muslim Saudi Arabia takes none, not a single Iraqi even, and is busy building a state of the art border fence.   The Saudis won’t take Rohingya either.

*  No Muslim country is willing to take in the Palestinians from Gaza.

*  No Muslim country is willing to take the Iraqi Palestinians trapped at the border of Iraq and Syria.  Those Palestinians have noted the hypocrisy of their so-called Arab brothers.

* In Muslim Egypt refugees trying to cross the border are shot.

* In Muslim Turkey refugees are immediately expelled and some, forced by Turkish authorities to swim across a river to leave Turkey, died in the process.

* Bangladesh, a Muslim country, is sending Rohingya Muslims back to Burma.  Likewise, Indonesia is returning Rohingya boat men back to persecution in Burma.

* Muslim Malaysia has been cited for its abuse of refugees as well.

The countries welcoming refugees are the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, most European countries and a few in South America.  What do they all have in common? They have a Judeo-Christian historical tradition — not an Islamic Sharia history.

Note:  I have more links to add to this post but wordpress is misbehaving this morning and I’ll add them later.

Using the “R” word snapped me to attention

For days we’ve been getting alerts about the terrible refugee situation in Sri Lanka, but I have been too lazy to post.  Maybe after awhile one gets dulled to one more “refugee crisis.”    It was the word “resettlement” in this article that brought me around today and I figured I better at least mention this latest crisis.

(RTTNews) – UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Saturday requested the Sri Lankan government to provide international relief agencies with “unhindered access” to the refugee camps housing hundreds of thousands of civilians displaced in the recent military offensive against the Tamil Tiger rebels in the country’s northeastern regions.

After talks with Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse at his residence in Kandy, Ban acknowledged that the Sri Lankan government was trying its level best to provide assistance to those displaced in the recent military offensive, but warned that it was not enough.

“The government is doing its utmost best”, but added that there was a “wide gap between what is needed and what can be done”.

His request for greater international access to the refugee camps follows earlier complaints by several international aid agencies that the Sri Lankan government has restricted their access to the camps for the displaced.

Let’s just hope Ban Ki-moon is referring to resettlement within Sri Lanka.

His remarks on Saturday came just days after President Rajapaksa assured visiting Indian National Security Adviser M.K. Narayanan and Foreign Secretary Shiv Shankar Menon that his government has charted out plans for the resettlement of the 280,000 war-displaced Tamils within the next six months.

“We will try to work hard to keep that promise realized,” Ban said Friday. “They need to be resettled as soon as possible.”

Ban’s Sri Lankan visit comes four days after President Rajapaksa declared victory in the country’s 25-year civil war against the Tamil Tiger rebels.

I think ol’ President Rajapaksa is being too optimistic.   I don’t think the Tigers are finished.   Ethnic nationalism is on the rise in the world.   Read about the Tamil Tiger rebels here.   Among other great achievements they are credited with developing the suicide bomber vest.

Endnote:  We have resettled 15 refugees from Sri Lanka this fiscal year and only 1 in the whole of 2008, 2 in 2007, and 6 in 2006.  I didn’t look back further than that but, it looks like we have an up-tick this year.

More of the Climate Change Refugee mumbo-jumbo

I’ll have to just direct you to this publication to read the article, “The Climate Refugee Challenge,” yourself because, although in English, somehow this French publication won’t let me copy sections of  the post.    Suffice it to say, the crisis dujour of Climate Change Refugees roaming the world and looking for a home in your town is moving on up on Leftists’ to-do list around the world.  Read about it here.  Pay attention because they are working on securing funding and developing a legal structure.

And, then as I pointed out before and now we have proof, the Enviro-socialists have been advised to drop the phrase ‘global warming’ which confuses too many people who have been freezing their tushies off over the last few winters.

Iranian refugee camp in Iraq in jeopardy

Here is a story I want to bring to your attention, but am not sure what to say about it other than keep an eye on it.   From the Washington Times yesterday.

Trouble is brewing at Camp Ashraf in Iraq, where 3,500 members of the main Iranian opposition group the PMOI – the People’s Mujahideen of Iran – are based.

At Iran’s request, the Iraqi authorities, who took over protection of Ashraf from American troops in January, are now preventing medicine and fuel from reaching the inhabitants. Parts of Ashraf, including a dormitory for several hundred women, have been besieged since mid-March, and unarmed residents have been subjected to violence. Most journalists and Iraqi doctors are not allowed entry – neither are relatives of the PMOI nor women of any nationality.

These draconian measures were put into force by Iraq’s National Security Adviser Mowaffaq al-Rubaie, a key ally of Iran, who says he wants to drive PMOI members out of Iraq. They also come two months after the European Union removed the PMOI from its terrorist list. Britain de-proscribed the group in 2008 after the Court of Appeal found that all the evidence showed it was “perverse” to classify the group as a terrorist organization.

The group remains on the U.S. blacklist, but in 2004 Washington recognized all PMOI members in Ashraf as “protected persons” under the Fourth Geneva Convention, after determining that none of them could be charged with any crime under U.S. law. Under international law, an attempt to forcefully displace the population even inside Iraq would be tantamount to a war crime.

Americans have been protecting this camp and I asked in March if these Iranians are killed when we pull-out of Iraq will Obama be blamed?
