More refugee crooks (Somalis) in Kentucky; Rand Paul where are you?

The only US Senator I’ve ever seen question the Refugee Resettlement Program of the US State Department is Senator Rand Paul.  He recently got in trouble with the mainstream media types when he said, ‘they [contractors] bring’em in and put them on welfare,’ here.  Those Iraqi refugee terrorists found in Bowling Green first got his attention, here.

Note to the Senator’s staff:  this is one more account of grateful (not!) refugees in Kentucky to add to your list!

Thanks to unofficial reporter ‘pungentpeppers’ for the link.

He got only 6 months!

Abdalla Hajisufi, a good father, ripped off every welfare program he could find!

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A Somali man was sentenced Tuesday to six months in prison and six months of house arrest for leading an illegal prescription drug distribution ring and selling the stimulant khat while using a check-cashing scheme to launder more than $6 million from a Louisville storefront.

U.S. District Judge John G. Heyburn II in Louisville also ordered 43-year-old Abdalla Hajisufi to repay the state $119,000 for underreporting his income while claiming eligibility for food stamps.

Heyburn sentenced Hajisufi’s son, 20-year-old Mohamad Hajisufi, a native of Kenya and a University of Louisville student, to a year of probation for playing a minor role in the plot.

The two pleaded guilty in June to conspiring to distribute the painkillers oxycodone and hydrocodone between November 2011 and March 2012 to customers at their business, the Hana Store.

Son Mohamad Hajisufi got probation. Likely back in college on your dime!

Abdalla Hajisufi also pleaded guilty to managing and owning an unlicensed money transmitting business operating out of the Hana Store. Hajisufi admitted to cashing payroll checks from employees of a temporary employment agency, and deducting a small fee for the transaction, without complying with the licensing and registration requirements of Kentucky state laws.

The FBI said Hajisufi cashed nearly 107,000 payroll checks totaling more than $6.6 million from July 2006 through December 2010 at the Hana Store.

Ripped off every welfare program he could find before leaving the country!

Assistant U.S. Attorney Jason Snyder said Abdalla Hajisufi ran a drug dealing operation, an illegal business and spent time “ripping off every available welfare program” before being indicted and fleeing the country in 2012.

[…..]

The father and son were fugitives from the FBI until their arrest on January when they attempted to re-enter the United States on a flight from Europe at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. The two fled the country after being charged in May 2012 and missed their scheduled arraignment a month later.

Defense:  Cut him slack, he is a poor refugee who took good care of his wife and seven kids (with the help of criminal activity and the ‘infidel’ taxpayers!)

Abdalla Hajisufi’s attorney, Mark Chandler, asked Heyburn for some leniency in sentencing. Chandler described his client as a Somali native who fled to snake-infested Kenyan refugee camps before arriving in the United States. Since then, Chandler said, Hajisufi has maintained steady employment and taken care of his wife and seven children.

They were also selling Khat (a favorite illegal drug of Somalis).  Read the whole article.

Convicted Somali terror-funder competent; withdraws appeal of 20-year sentence

Mahamud Said Omar convicted Jihad financier

Below is the short news piece on Mahamud Said Omar who was sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in funding the travel (and weapons) for some of the ‘missing Somali youths’ (refugees) who thumbed their noses at what America had given them and traveled to their homeland to learn the Jihad trade.  We have dozens and dozens of posts on the investigation that began in 2008, click here for more background.

Omar was reportedly living “penniless” in Rochester, MN where he was likely resettled by Catholic Charities.  When the FBI began its investigation he took off for the Netherlands and sought asylum there.  He was subsequently returned to the US to stand trial.

By the way, Omar is the guy who said he was seeing ghosts during his trial and at one point passed out in the courtroom.

Here is AP with the latest (Somalis keeping those Minnesota courts busy!):

MINNEAPOLIS — A man sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in a pipeline that funneled young men from Minnesota to a terrorist group in Somalia is being allowed to withdraw his appeal.

Forty-seven-year-old Mahamud Said Omar was sentenced in May on five terror-related counts. Authorities say he played a key role in pushing young men toward al-Shabab. Omar’s attorneys insist he was a passive participant and filed notice they’d appeal his conviction and sentence.

But Omar said he didn’t want to.

He was evaluated and found to be competent.

On Tuesday, Omar told Chief U.S. District Judge Michael Davis that he still wanted to withdraw his appeal. Davis granted that request, saying Omar made his decision “knowingly and voluntarily, and with a rational and factual understanding of these proceedings.”

Photo is from this story where Omar is described as a “frightened little man.”

Canada: Police raid Toronto’s ‘Little Mogadishu’ neighborhood

This is old news, but better late than never—it happened in June—we missed it then, but now we have it to add to our archives on Somali “refugees” gone wild.   Hat tip: ‘pungentpeppers’.

The gang raid resulted in 43 arrests and the whole mess dragged the controversial Mayor into the news (again).

Controversial photo: Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, obviously in the middle palling around with the Dixon City Bloods. I assume the now-deceased Smith is on our right and Somali “refugee” Mohammed Khattak on our left, but the photo description linked in this post (below) is confusing.

From The Globe and Mail:    Readers will have to read down many paragraphs before getting to the word ‘Somali.’  The only hint in the first section of the long report is that reference to ‘Little Mogadishu.’ (We have one of those in the US too—it’s called Minneapolis).  Emphasis is mine.

The predawn raids on the Dixon City Bloods – a gang alleged to have committed shootings and robberies in its bid to control a stretch of Toronto’s Little Mogadishu – were one year in the making.

Police Chief Bill Blair held a news conference Thursday to release details on Project Traveller, an investigation that started last June with the goal of cracking down on firearms and drug trafficking, but grew to include allegations of murder and attempted murder.

The chief spent much of the roughly 40-minute news conference swatting aside questions on whether Mayor Rob Ford was linked to the investigation. But he also spoke about the harm the group known as the Dixon City Bloods, or the Dixon Goonies, had done, and the relief their dismantling would bring to those in the community.

“We know many families that have lost their sons to violence and we are endeavouring to bring justice to those people and reassurance to all families who live in fear of losing their sons to similar violent events,” he told the dozens of journalists at Toronto Police headquarters.

Keep reading down many column inches…..

The suspects

The Dixon City Bloods

The massive police bust targeted a loosely organized gang whose turf encompasses a one-kilometre stretch of Dixon Road in North Etobicoke.

The area, known locally as Little Mogadishu for the prevalence of recent Somali immigrants, is largely the domain of the Dixon City Bloods, who go by so many names and tags that many people along the Dixon corridor regard them as disorganized and relatively harmless group of friends.

But in an afternoon press conference on Thursday, Toronto Police singled out the group as a violent drug-running organization that has been the target of an intense one-year investigation.

The photo!

Mohammed Khattak

One man arrested during the mass police raids will seem familiar to Toronto city hall watchers.

Mohammed Khattak, 19, is one of the men who posed alongside Mayor Rob Ford and homicide victim Anthony Smith in a photograph that emerged with media reports about an alleged video showing Mayor Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine.

The photo shows Mr. Ford with his arm around 23-year-old Anthony Smith, who was murdered in a downtown shooting on March 28. Mr. Khattak escaped the same shooting with serious gunshot wounds to his hand and leg. His face appears blurred in the photo published by the Toronto Star and Gawker.com, but his mother confirmed to The Globe and Mail that it’s her son. She added that he’s been scared for his life since the shooting, which left him with a severe limp and a severely injured arm that remains a source of intense pain.

That’s all I know for now.  I don’t have time to see what the follow-up has been since June.   If anyone has a minute, send us a comment with a link to the latest on this case and the clearly troubled Mayor.  Is he still in office?

Somali refugee women keeping the Minnesota courts busy

They were just so excited about voting they did it more than once!

In our previous post we reported the latest conviction in the Somali missing youths case.   And, now (hat tip: Cathy) we learn of another criminal case involving Somali women in Minnesota—this time for voter fraud.

Rice County, MN courtroom. Photo: REBECCA KURIE

From Faribault Daily News:

About 50 men and women packed a Rice County courtroom Tuesday afternoon as two Somali women pleaded not guilty to charges of voter fraud stemming from the general election last November.

Farhiya Abdi Dool, 38, and Amina A Hassan, 31, each face one felony charge of unlawful voting for voting once by absentee ballot and once at a polling place during the 2012 general election. Each woman faces five years in prison and a $10,000 fine for the offense.

The women, both naturalized U.S. citizens, were charged June 21.

With Minneapolis-based defense attorney Julie Nelson at their side, Dool and Hassan each entered a plea of not guilty on Tuesday afternoon. As was the case with their first court appearances, the women were backed by family members, friends, neighbors and advocates all listening closely to the proceedings.

Supporters of the women say that their actions were an honest mistake that should not be punished with a felony charge. Nelson took the defense a step further during an interview after the hearing.

Somehow because they came to this country as refugees they should get a pass???  Americans are offended!

“I find it offensive that these women have been criminally charged,” Nelson said. “These women came to this country, they are naturalized citizens, and they wanted to vote.”

Nelson said she expected the outcome of the cases to have a “chilling effect” on the Somali community.

We sure hope it “chills” the voter fraud in the “community.”  This isn’t the first time we have reported on fraud in the “Somali community” going back to Al Franken’s victory in that 2008 contested Senate race.  There was also a case of alleged Somali voter fraud in Kansas that actually may have swung the outcome of a race, here.  Then there is the Ohio case.  See a pattern?

Don’t you wonder how refugees become citizens when they can’t understand English.  How did they pass the test?

We have a couple of posts referencing Faribault.  This is one about Somalis moving into small town Minnesota and opening businesses with your tax dollars.  And, here is another about CAIR suing a dessert maker somewhere nearby about the Somali workers and the dress code.

Minnesota Somali woman found guilty in Somali jihad recruitment case

She lied when asked if she or others helped raise the money that sent at least 22 Somali refugees back to Africa to fight with al-Shabaab in 2007-2008.

Here is one more in a long line of reports on the story we followed from the beginning (here is one of our initial posts).

The remains of Shirwa Ahmed were flown “home” to Minnesota by the FBI for a proper burial after he detonated a bomb strapped to his body and killed 29 innocent people in Somalia in 2008.

From AP at the St. Cloud Times:

MINNEAPOLIS — A 23-year-old woman admitted Thursday that she lied to a grand jury investigating the long-running case of young men who left Minnesota to join a terrorist group in Somalia.

Saynab Hussein pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Minnesota to one count of perjury. She admitted that in June 2009 she lied when she told a grand jury she did not know anyone who raised money for the travelers, when she actually helped raise money herself.

Hussein, who is pregnant and studying nursing at college, faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison. A sentencing date has not been set.

Hussein was charged on Wednesday, making her the 21st person to be charged in the government’s investigation into efforts to recruit fighters and raise money for al-Shabab, an al-Qaida-linked group at the heart of much of the violence in Somalia in recent years.

Since late 2007, at least 22 young men have left Minnesota to join the terrorist group, which at the time was fighting Ethiopians who were assisting Somalia’s former government.

Some of these Minnesota men have died, some remain at large, and others were among those prosecuted in what the FBI has said is one of the largest efforts to recruit U.S. fighters to a foreign terrorist organization.

The investigation began in the fall of 2008. That October, Shirwa Ahmed of Minneapolis detonated a suicide bomb in Somalia. Authorities said he was the first known U.S. citizen to carry out a suicide bombing, and they believed he was radicalized in Minnesota.

The following month, the case became public when families of some of the travelers came forward to say their sons were missing.

Her lawyer said lying was “out of character” for her.  She was just young and naive.  She could get five years, but in my mind she should have been charged with being an accessory to murder.

If you type ‘Somali missing youths’ into our search function, I bet we have 50-100 posts on the subject.  In 2009, we attended a disappointing  Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing on the Somali former refugees (aka Jihadists).
