“Children” escape Catholic facility and carjack two cars one belonging to 91-year-old veteran

Update October 11Check this story in which the reporter actually refers to the illegal alien children as “refugees.”  They are NOT refugees yet, that is what the No borders agitators want them to be.

It was just a matter of time before the violent crimes got underway and the Office of Refugee Resettlement now has to review security in 139 facilities scattered across America.  Ho hum….

I guess Sister Cathy has her hands full. Check out Maryville Academy, here: http://www.maryvilleacademy.org/

From the Daily Mail (thanks to all of our readers who sent it).  The “vulnerable” children were just seeking asylum from crime in Guatemala.  Remember also that ol’ Rahm Emanuel asked for a thousand of the little darlings!

Two teenage asylum seekers from Guatemala have escaped a detention center in Illinois and carjacked a 91-year-old Navy veteran.

The incident has prompted the federal government to order a security review at all 139 shelters across the country that house illegal immigrant minors, MailOnline can exclusively reveal.

The boys, age 16 and 17, were able to walk away unchallenged from Maryville Academy in Des Plaines, Illinois, outside Chicago, on Wednesday morning and carjack two victims before they were arrested more than 225 miles away outside Iowa City, Iowa, according to authorities.

Police say they targeted an elderly man in Moline, Illinois, who was picking up his prescription at Walmart.

They threatened him with violence, forced him out of his car and then sped off with his Buick LeSabre.

[….]

More than 60,000 unaccompanied minors from Central America have poured across the US-Mexico border in recent months and claimed asylum, saying they were fleeing the drug cartel violence in their impoverished home countries.

The federal government is spending $868 million this year to house and resettle them.

Read it all.  There is lots more detail than you will get from the America press!

Here (in July) the Archdiocese of Chicago asked to be given federal bucks to house a bunch of the ‘Unaccompanied alien children’ at Maryville.

Lawrenceville could have been Maryville.

Lawrenceville, Virginia dodged a bullet when citizens protested a similar facility in a local college.  The feds are now being sued for racism because they backed out of the deal.

I should have posted the story earlier, but here it is at Frontpage Magazine:

Last June, community outrage forced the federal government to cancel plans to house hundreds of illegal alien children at a closed college in Lawrenceville, VA. A complaint filed by St. Paul’s College and nonprofit Housing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME) of Virginia with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) alleges the move was racially motivated. Both entities also filed a separate complaint against the Health and Human Services Department (HHS) for canceling the lease, citing another alleged violation of anti-discrimination laws. “No one should block someone’s housing opportunity based on race or national origin,” said Helen O’Beirne Hardiman, fair housing director for HOME. “It’s unfair, and it’s completely illegal for government officials to step in to a private deal and say we don’t want Central American children coming to this community.”

I don’t get how this is a “private” deal when it’s all about federal grants and contracts.

Read it all.  It is all about the money.

Catholic editor: Maybe it’s time for Bishops to stop taking federal money

I never thought I would see the day when not only would the fact become widely discussed—the fact that the US Conference of Catholic Bishops migration program is almost completely funded by the federal tax payer, but that any Catholic would tell them to stop taking it!

Phil Lawler, editor of Catholic World News: Bishops should stop “cooperating” and “coexisting” with the federal government. (They won’t of course because it’s all about the money!) http://www.catholicculture.org/about/leadership/bio_phil_lawler.cfm

In this story from Breitbart  (hat tip: Joanne) yesterday, Catholic World News editor actually suggests that the Bishops’ moral/religious positions may be perverted as a result of taking millions from the US Treasury and so they should consider withdrawing as the largest refugee resettlement contractor in the US.  Unbelievable!

First Breitbart reporter Dr. Susan Berry sets the stage with most that regular readers here already know:

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is funneling $4 million over the next two years to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (USCCB) Office of Refugee Resettlement to provide legal representation for 2,600 unaccompanied illegal minors.

“I think it’s a recognition that many of these children have valid protection claims and they need legal representation,” Kevin Appleby of the USCCB told MSNBC. “It is a result of advocacy and raising awareness about why these children are coming and why they’re fleeing.”

As Breitbart News reported Wednesday, a grant in a similar amount will be provided to the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants also to pay for legal services for unaccompanied illegal minors.

The U.S. Catholic Bishops’ Migration and Refugee Services (MRS) states that it is “the largest resettlement agency in the United States.”

According to the MRS’s most recent annual report, “Upwards of 90,000” young illegal immigrants were projected to arrive between October 1, 2013, and September 30, 2014.

Additionally, MRS showed a total budget of approximately $71 million, of which nearly $66 million – or about 93% – has come from federal grants and contracts.  [It is actually worse than 93%, see summary from the 2012 Annual Report below***—ed].

Because the USCCB accepts federal contracts and funding, it may be subject to federal laws and, especially in the case of President Barack Obama, executive orders, that may conflict with Catholic teaching and from which there is no exemption.

Read about the Obama Executive Order we told you about here in July.  Then this:

Nevertheless, the bishops show no inclination to address whether they should be “coexisting” and “cooperating” with the federal government in the first place.

Phil Lawler, editor of Catholic World News (CWN), seemed to think the bishops’ call to “oppose” the executive order was unrealistic.

[….]

Lawler suggested instead that the bishops simply stop taking federal contracts.

“President Obama doesn’t want help from the Catholic Church. Say it’s a deal; don’t give him any.”

The bishops, however, have a history of “coexisting” and “cooperating” with the government.

So, that’s about 98% of their funds for 2012 that came from you!  That is not what I call Christian charity!

All of our coverage of the ‘Unaccompanied minors’ issue is here.  I think the Bishops actually helped light the fire for the kids to head north when they traveled to Central America in 2013, resulting in lobbyist Appleby writing this report.

Here is what I said in July just as the border surge was getting fully underway about that report:

With their trip to Central America and the follow-up report one wonders if the Bishops were prescient in predicting 60,000 invaders or were they helping to make it happen?

Did ‘Unaccompanied alien children’ bring Enterovirus68 with them?

Update October 5th:  The Conservative Treehouse has been working on making the connection between the arrival of the hordes of Central America “children” and the nationwide outbreak of Enterovirus68.   I’m not convinced the evidence is conclusive yet, but hope the many excellent blogger/researchers out there continue working on this important question.

I heard a Fox News commentator briefly ask that question more than a week ago, so I’m always on the look-out for some major news outlet even hinting at the possibility.  I haven’t seen it yet. Have you?  However, lots of Americans are asking that question because the timing of the rare virus outbreak surely raises suspicions.  And, if the mainstream media is mum, the alternative media sure isn’t.

We mentioned another report alleging that the “children” did bring the sickness, here, a few weeks ago.

Here is one more story, this time from the Chicago Examiner:

Enterovirus 68, the respiratory infection that has taken the nation by storm, is spreading unlike previous outbreaks of the virus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as reported by the New York Times. The latest report on the disease by the CDC claims that nearly 500 cases of the virus’ infection have been confirmed as of this week. Medical experts have said that the real number of Enterovirus 68 cases is most likely much greater because many with symptoms have not been tested.

Here is a map from last week about the spread of Entervirus68. It is the most recent map I found. http://flashnewsnetwork.blogspot.com/2014/09/enterovirus-8-new-states-added-to-list.html

On Friday, ABC News reported that there are three more cases of Enterovirus 68 at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Additionally, there have been four deaths very possibly linked to Enterovirus 68. The threat of the infection and its devastation on its victims seem to be growing daily.

Though the White House, the CDC, and the major news outlets aren’t making the obvious connection to the recent reports of immigration and massive acceptance of refugee children along the United States’ southern border, it is logically on the minds of Americans near and far. The refugee crisis that took hold of the nation this past summer caused political riffs between liberal Democrats and conservative Republicans. Politically, Democrats – lead by the likes of Rep. Nancy Pelosi – insisted that accepting the throngs of children into the United States was the right thing to do. Such persons have become more increasingly quiet on the topic as the spread of childhood diseases and more has swept the country.  [These are not “refugees.”  They will attempt to be, but aren’t yet!—ed]

It has been reported that many of these children who entered the United States via the liberally-promoted refugee barrage at the border were allowed to enter the country without any health screening whatsoever – even though it is logical to believe these people could be bringing in diseases from the far corners of the globe. Furthermore, Joe Walsh on WIND-AM talk radio in Chicago insists that public schools have been ordered to accept these children – from throughout the world – without any health screenings being given to the children entering our nation’s schools.

About that map.  Those who claim there is no connection between the throngs of Unaccompanied minors (see the list of states where they have been located) and the troubling virus might point to that map and ask why then has Texas not been hit?

This border surge by the “children” has been coming for a long time!

All of our coverage of ‘Unaccompanied minors’ is here.  The illegal alien children have been coming across our southern border for years, so our archive extends back to 2008.  One of our earliest posts on the “children” was a 2008 story where Catholic Charities in Virginia was accused of obtaining an abortion for a teenaged (unaccompanied) Guatemalan girl in their care, here.

However, for those paying attention, Don Barnett writing at the Center for Immigration Studies warned of the potential for a huge problem with the ‘unaccompanied minors’ here as early as 2004.  It took only the right combination of a wrong-headed law at the disposal of greedy church groups fanning the flames and a President willing to throw open our borders to bring us to this present irreversible crisis.

Where are the ‘Unaccompanied alien children?’

Editor’s note:  It has been one of those days and many potential posts were not posted.  Thanks to all who have sent story ideas, hopefully tomorrow will be a better day.

In our earlier post this morning we reported that Obama was awarding millions of dollars to refugee contractors to hire lawyers for some of the “children” who broke into America over the summer.  A reader alerts us to the latest numbers (as of August 31) by state of where the Office of Refugee Resettlement has sent them.

So, look at this list and remember that the states getting lawyers for illegal alien children are MD/VA, CA, TX, FL, TN, LA, AZ.  Why Tennessee and Arizona when there are several states with more illegal alien children?

Update:  I didn’t notice originally that you can check out your counties here.

Two refugee contractors awarded taxpayer $$$ to supply lawyers to the “children”

Eight regions of the US will be getting taxpayer funded lawyers.

The Obama Administration has come up with $9 million of your tax dollars so two of the big nine refugee resettlement contractors*** can get lawyers for some of the ‘Unaccompanied alien children’ who broke into America this summer.

Surely what the immigration lawyers will be trying to prove is that the kids are legitimate asylum seekers who can be declared refugees in the full sense of the word making them eligible for all forms of welfare and putting them on the fast track to citizenship.  Of course once the kids are declared “refugees” they will be able to bring in the extended family as well!

Lavinia Limon, CEO of USCRI (in green) and Clinton’s head of the Office of Refugee Resettlement must be jumping for joy at this windfall. Far left is Eskinder Negash, previously a VP at USCRI now heads the Office of Refugee Resettlement. Cozy huh! Wonder why people are sick of Washington! Photo: http://thehispanicblog.com/2012/04/14/who-is-lavinia-limon-meet-the-ceo-of-the-u-s-committee-for-refugees-immigrants/

Who says Obama isn’t creating jobs!

He is creating more jobs at the US Conference of Catholic Bishops special lawyers’ service and at the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI is already funded 99% by you!).

And, he is putting to work potentially hundreds of immigration lawyers who are pouring out of US law schools and looking for work (there is a glut of lawyers these days as any new law school grad will tell you).

From the Washington Times (hat tip: Erich).

Will the gutless wonders in Congress do anything about it?

The Obama administration will pay $9 million over the next two years to give taxpayer-funded attorneys to some of the illegal immigrant children who have surged across the U.S. border this year, the Health and Human Services Department said Tuesday.

About 2,600 immigrants will be able to be represented by lawyers thanks to the funds, which were awarded in two grants to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants, according to a notice to be published in the Federal Register on Thursday.

Advocates cheered the decision, which they’d been demanding for months, saying it will not only help the children get a fair hearing on asylum claims, but it will also make the court proceedings go faster, which will end up saving the government money.

But administration critics in Congress said the move could violate federal law and will most likely prolong illegal immigrants’ time in the U.S., encouraging more children to make the dangerous crossing.

To end the surge at the border, the Obama administration should instead focus its efforts on deterring future border crossers and enforcing the laws against illegal entry into the United States,” said House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte, Virginia Republican. “Without such actions, the flood of people attempting to cross the border illegally will only continue.”  [Blah, blah, blah, but will he do anything?—ed]

The administration’s move marks another effort to circumvent Congress.

Mr. Obama had requested $15 million to provide lawyers for the children in his emergency spending request earlier this summer, but Congress left town without approving the money.

The contractors will decide which children will be served, but there will be eight targeted areas in the US.

The Washington metropolitan region, with its high population of Central American immigrants, has taken an outsize number of the children, so it’s not surprising the Baltimore/Arlington region is one of eight areas that will get the money for lawyers.

The other seven are: Los Angeles, Houston, Miami, Dallas, Memphis, Tennessee, New Orleans and Phoenix.
