….by funding citizenship and training services. You will recognize some of the usual suspects, not just getting grants from the Office of Refugee Resettlement but also from Homeland Security which makes finding all of their federal bucks more complicated.
This is from reader ‘Julia’ who found this list of grantees for “Citizenship and Training”at USA Spending.gov. For a little summer Saturday fun, check out the over $30 million that has been expended so far through quasi-non-profit groups (I hope someone is monitoring how all this taxpayer money is being spent!).

Below is a list of organizations that received funding for Citizenship and Training programs from the Department of Homeland Security. Funding for these programs began in FY 2010. Most of the organizations provide other services to the immigrant population. Note the organizations that provide assistance with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals). Also, note the organizations that coordinate their efforts with other organizations. Website information for the organizations is still being completed and will be updated.
It seems that if DACA is expanded through executive order, there is already a network of organizations in place to facilitate the DACA application process. Please note that this list is not a compilation of all organizations that provide assistance with DACA.

One thing we have to thank these ‘unaccompanied alien minors’ for is exposing the three-decades-old Refugee Resettlement program of the US State Department to public scrutiny.
Here is yet another whiny story, this one featuring refugees in Washington state under the care of contractor World Relief. I bet you didn’t know you were funding classes so that new refugees could discover the joys of eating carrots in America. And, now this special program may be cut because the invading “children” are gobbling up all the federal cash.

This is my question—are there no Evangelical Christians (World Relief is an Evangelical federal contractor) or Catholics who could use their charitable time and teach refugees the vital information about carrots and thus leave the federal taxpayer out of the loop?

Refugees like Farwah Rubab and Syed Mubashar Abbas from Pakistan come here, to World Relief’s headquarters in Spokane, for answers. Not only do they get help finding housing, schooling and jobs, but they can attend workshops on the essentials: banking, interacting with law enforcement and today, cooking healthy food.

Though the much-covered influx of unaccompanied children at the southern border is 1,500 miles away from this classroom, the two are unavoidably linked by a pot of federal funding increasingly under stress.
Last month, the federal government halted funding to states for “refugee resettlement assistance” — the money that pays for these classes — because it needed that money to address needs at the border. In Spokane, World Relief, a nonprofit that helps resettle refugees, uses its $89,500 allotment to pay staff to help refugees apply for permanent residency and to organize these classes. The nonprofit Catholic Charities gets $35,500 from the contract to provide similar services. About $1 million in funding was cut for the current quarter.
Boo-hoo-hoo! If this keeps up there may be staff layoffs! Offices may close and the trickle down could crash the economy of Spokane (and refugees will not enjoy the culinary delights of America, the healthy delights of course!).
As I have said previously, no sympathyhere for the contractors***. They lobbied Congress for amnesty for illegal aliens, what did they think might happen if tens of thousands of new ones arrived overnight. Did they think that the Washington money tree would just grow more money?

Since my original article discussing how an abandoned Catholic church was being converted to a mosque in Syracuse, NY, that city has embraced the Mosque of Jesus, Son of Mary with open arms. In April, a local publication, the Syracuse New Times, published an interview with Dr. Yusuf Soule, the executive director of the Northside Learning Center, who bought the church and rented it to a still unidentified group of Muslims. In no news report has the group who transformed the church into a mosque been identified as anything other than a “new Islamic society.”
Read through the update and then at the end see that the Mayor is now asking Obama to send the ‘unaccompanied alien children’ (the Catholic church calls refugees!) to “welcoming” Syracuse.
Fourteen years after the attack on the synagogue, Temple Beth El is closed, the Mosque of Jesus, Son of Mary has replaced Holy Trinity Church on the city’s North side, and everyone is stumped why there is an alarming increase in violence on Syracuse’s Northside; an area overloaded with Dr. Yusuf Soule’s “refugees.”
In fact, the city is in such good shape that Syracuse’s mayor, Stephanie Miner, is telling President Obama to send illegal immigrants from the border up to her city. “The entire Syracuse community wants to help,” she wrote him. Indeed, they probably couldn’t find a more appropriate environment to relocate to.
Related: Reader Cathy sent us a good article from late July also at American Thinker entitled “They’re not refugees.” It makes me very happy to see that the whole refugee program is being scrutinized by other media outlets as a result of the effort to label the ‘unaccompanied alien children’ as refugees. But, is it too late?

When you read this remember that large numbers of those arrested or detained will claim they want to seek asylum in the US. Go here for the most recent (2012) Refugee and Asylees Annual Flow Report on the numbers we grant asylum to—Chinese top the list (Egyptians are second in recent years). The Chinese are granted asylumwhen they claim they want to have more than one baby!
By the way, I don’t know why the Department of Homeland Security has not issued the 2013 Flow Report (are they trying to hide something?).
LUBBOCK, Texas — A leaked intelligence analysis from the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reveals the exact numbers of illegal immigrants entering and attempting to enter the U.S. from more than 75 different countries….

The report reveals the apprehension numbers ranging from 2010 through July 2014. It shows that most of the human smuggling from Syria and Albania into the U.S. comes through Central America. The report also indicates the routes individuals from North Africa and the Middle East take into the European Union, either to illegally migrate there or as a possible stop in their journey to the United States. The data are broken down further into the specific U.S. border sectors where the apprehensions and contact occurred.
Among the significant revelations are that individuals from nations currently suffering from the world’s largest Ebola outbreak have been caught attempting to sneak across the porous U.S. border into the interior of the United States. At least 71 individuals from the three nations affected by the current Ebola outbreak have either turned themselves in or been caught attempting to illegally enter the U.S. by U.S. authorities between January 2014 and July 2014.
As of July 20, 2014, 1,443 individuals from China were caught sneaking across the porous U.S. border this year alone, with another 1,803 individuals either turning themselves in to U.S. authorities at official ports of entry, or being caught attempting to illegally enter at the ports of entry. This comes amid a massive crackdown by Chinese authorities of Islamic terrorists in the Communist nation.
Twenty-eight individuals from Pakistan were caught attempting to sneak into the U.S. this year alone, with another 211 individuals either turning themselves in or being caught at official ports of entry.
Thirteen Egyptians were caught trying to sneak into the U.S. this year alone, with another 168 either turning themselves in or being caught at official ports of entry.

A 42-year-old illegal alien promised the Office of Refugee Resettlement (in Health and Human Services) that he would provide a separate bedroom for a 16-year old girl not related to him—AND THEY BELIEVED HIM!
These people live in la-la land and surely we will see many more such cases of abuse as the Obama border surge continues.
A 42-year-old illegal immigrant from Honduras who was awarded custody of an unrelated 16-year-old Honduran girl has been accused of sexual abuse and of smuggling her into the U.S.
Pedro Lara Portillo is charged with alien smuggling and encouraging an alien to illegally enter the country, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Lara, who told authorities he has been in the U.S. illegally for seven years, also lied to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement when he said that he and the girl would have separate rooms while she lived with him, according to federal court documents.
The girl came to the U.S. in late March and spent a month in the custody of HHS, which turned her over to Lara’s care.
The agency is in charge of finding housing for the tens of thousands of unaccompanied children apprehended at the U.S. border while they await deportation proceedings to commence.
The girl told Baltimore County police in early June that she had been smuggled into the country, according to the Baltimore Sun.
Lara and the girl’s mother coordinated the plan to smuggle her from Honduras through Mexico, and the teen eventually entered the U.S. through Texas.
“Lara admitted in sum and substance that he wired money to Mexico for the purpose of having [the girl] smuggled to the United States,” Department of Homeland Security special agent Edward J. Kelly wrote in the charging documents.
According to the federal documents, Lara and the girl did not have separate rooms, contrary to assurances he made in the custody arrangement with HHS.
The Department of Homeland Security did not immediately arrest Lara after they interviewed him, though he was eventually apprehended in Tennessee.
