Muslim immigration transforms Finland

That is the title of a thorough piece posted at Patriot Action Network about how (as in the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark) Finland is changing radically due to Muslim immigration.  But, unlike the US where we still have free speech citizens of European countries do not have the same liberty to express themselves as we do.

As in other European countries (here and here), the politically correct guardians of Finnish multiculturalism have tried to silence public discussion about the escalating problem of Muslim immigration.

In March 2009, for example, Jussi Kristian Halla-aho, a politician and well-known political commentator, was taken to court on charges of “incitement against an ethnic group” and “breach of the sanctity of religion” for writing that Islam is a religion of paedophilia. He was referring to the Islamic prophet Mohammed, who is believed to have married a six year old girl and consummated the marriage when she was nine.

A Helsinki court later dropped the charges of blasphemy but ordered Halla-aho to pay a fine of €330 ($450) for disturbing religious worship. The Finnish public prosecutor, incensed at the lower court’s dismissal of the blasphemy charges, appealed the case to the Finnish Supreme Court, where it is now being reviewed.

Halla-Aho, the best-known political blogger in Finland, maintains a blog entitled Scripta, that deals with issues such as “immigration, multiculturalism, tolerance, racism, freedom of speech and political correctness.” His blog has between 3,000 and 6,000 readers a day. According to Halla-aho, immigration is a taboo topic in Finland. He has received death threats because of his web columns, which criticize the number of immigrants coming to Finland and argue that Muslims cannot be integrated.

Egyptian government not helping refugees from Libya

This story is from about 10 days ago (I am so behind in my piled up stories).  We are learning that the new and wonderful democracy that the US State Department (and President Obama) helped create is looking pretty ‘unwelcoming’ these days.  I guess they didn’t get with the socialist (we are one big happy borderless world) program!

From The Cable:

The Egyptian government is refusing to allow adequate construction of shelters for migrants and refugees fleeing the violence in Libya, according to U.S. government officials and experts.

Over 200,000 people have fled east into Egypt since the outbreak of war in Libya and another 240,000 have poured over the western Libyan border into Tunisia, but the two governments are treating their new visitors quite differently. In Tunisia, the new government has worked aggressively to house the temporary refugees and speed their path to their next destination. In Egypt, the military-led government has left thousands of people to suffer in horrid conditions.

“The government of Tunisia, I have to say, has been fantastic in terms of the hospitality they have provided to these large number of people that have come across their border,” said Reuben Brigety, deputy assistant secretary of State at the Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration. “In Egypt, it’s a very different situation.”

There are “transit camps” on both borders to aid refugees and migrant workers fleeing Libya get back to their home countries. But at a State Department briefing today, Brigety voiced frustration that Egypt isn’t moving quickly enough to combat this crisis. “We’ve been working with the Egyptian government to make sure people have sufficient access to shelter, but frankly it has taken some time to get those shelters built and to have those people cared for appropriately,” said Brigety. “We have continued to ask the government of Egypt to be strong partners in this regard and we continue to work with them to ensure that happens.”

Aid organizations have been even more explicit in their criticism of the Egyptian government’s handling of the refugee flow from Libya.

“Egypt’s ruling government has significantly blocked [the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees] from providing adequate assistance for all people currently stranded at its border and must immediately reverse this position,” Refugees International stated in an April 13 report, following the visit of its officials to the Tunisia-Libya and Egypt-Libya borders. “On the border, many people are forced to live under quite inhumane conditions.”

Meanwhile, Europe is being over run by tens of thousands of North Africans trying to escape.  Or, was that the plan all along?  (See Camp of Saints at Gates of Vienna, here)

Hang in there Egypt because Wade Rathke (ACORN founder) and the boys from the Organizers’ Forum are on the way and they plan to “dialogue” with you all in September.  Check it out here.   Note that two “immigrant and refugee” activists, Josh Hoyt head of ICIRR (also connected to Obama’s early days as a ‘community organizer,’ here) and Gustavo Torres head of CASA de Maryland (formerly the Central American Solidarity Association) are among Rathke’s boys.   They will tell those bad old Muslim Brotherhood guys to knock it off and get with the Marxist “democracy” program for Egypt, yes they will!  Community Organizers to the rescue!

World Socialists love this stuff—illegal immigrants protesting in Australia

Australia continues to see riots and disruptions at increasingly overloaded detention centers as supposed asylum seekers riot for more rights.

Protests continue in Australian immigration detention centres against the Gillard Labor government’s regressive policies that have led to the dramatic increase in long-term detainees and rising levels of mental illness and self-harm incidents among asylum seekers.

Three refugees are maintaining their rooftop demonstration at the Villawood detention centre in Sydney’s western suburbs. The men—Iranian Majid Parhizkar, 24, and two stateless Kurds, Amir Morad, 22, and Mehdi Darabi, 24—have not eaten for 10 days. Police are denying them access to food in an attempt to starve them off the roof and have rejected their calls for immunity from prosecution over the protest.

On Monday, about 100 teenage detainees were involved in an angry demonstration at the Broadmeadows detention centre in Melbourne. The facility holds boys under the age of 18. The protest reportedly erupted because one of the teenagers, who had turned 18, was transferred to the nearby Maribyrnong facility for adult males.

Also on Monday, eight men began a rooftop demonstration at the offshore processing facility on Christmas Island, a remote outpost in the Indian Ocean.

Ho hum, read it all.

Don’t lose your heads over the Osama bin Laden killing

Of course I’m happy our military got him, but he is only a bit player in the overall scheme of things.  My immediate inclination on hearing the news was to see what Robert Spencer at Jihad Watch had to say, and it’s just as I expected.  If you thought this thing (Islamic jihad against the West) would be over when we got OBL and that somehow it was all about Al-Qaeda, forget it!

Here is Spencer at Human Events (Osama gets his virgins), first quoting from a letter from Osama about Islamic supremacy:

“….It is the religion of Jihad in the way of Allah so that Allah’s Word and religion reign Supreme.”

Then this (emphasis mine):

This perspective on Islam wasn’t just bin Laden’s. Millions of Muslims worldwide share it, and that won’t end with the death of Osama. The US is not – and never will be – at war with Islam, as Obama says, but significant elements of Islam are – and always will be – at war with the U.S. Nothing that happened during that firefight in Abbottabad will change that, and Obama’s continued focus on al-Qaeda as if it were a singular and eccentric group of non-Muslim Muslims that is the cause of all our troubles only perpetuates the unreality that has already led to so many disastrous policy errors.

Until Barack Obama and other Western leaders face the fact that Osama bin Laden was operating within the broad mainstream of Islamic teaching, they will be constantly puzzled by the advent of new bin Ladens, and new al-Qaedas, all over the globe. How is it that all these disparate individuals and groups misunderstand Islam in all the same way? Until U.S. officials can answer that question correctly, we will have made no headway, no matter how many al-Qaeda masterminds we corner and kill in Pakistan.

I saw this attitude, this fixation on Al-Qaeda, first hand when I attended the Senate Homeland Security hearings in March 2009 (here) on Al-shabaab and the radicalization of Somali (former refugees) youths in the US.   Senators Joe Lieberman and Susan Collins were visibly relieved when intelligence experts testified that Al-shabaab and Al-Qaeda were not related, as if somehow that made it all o.k.   Of, course subsequently we learned that they are linked.  But, it was as if somehow the origins of their animus toward the West was not from the same source, so it wasn’t quite the same threat.  Well, it was, and it is.

Did you see how many college students were cheering in the streets early today in New York and Washington, DC?  It was both heartening (their patriotism) and a little sad.  Those twentysomethings have lived half their lives since 9/11 and I suspect somehow they think, as some silly commentator said on FoxNews this morning—the curse has been lifted.   Sorry, no.
