Public housing scarce in Australia for the thousands of arriving refugees

Below are just a couple of excerpts from an article about refugees being hard hit with an Australian housing shortage (or more accurately, a public housing shortage).  Refugee mental health issues complicate matters.

From Crikey:

Cases such as this* prompted Webster and her colleagues at MARS [Migrant and Refugee Services] to push for funding from Anglicare for a research report on the community they serve. Long Way Home?’ The plight of African refugees obtaining decent housing in Western Sydney was published late last year. The report found that access to decent, affordable medium- to long-term housing was unattainable for many African refugees in Western Sydney — and that mental health was one of the barriers.

*Here is one of the cases cited in the article:

For MARS worker Monica Biel, this is a harsh reality. Biel has been assisting a disabled Sudanese woman who lives with her 16-year-old daughter and her daughter’s nine-month-old baby. The family were evicted from their Merrylands home and left homeless after their landlord put up the rent.

They managed to escape spending the night in a train station after a fellow Sudanese community member found them a bed in a garage. ”They got a tiny room, with one small bed,” said Biel.

Desperate for somewhere better to stay, the family went to the Department of Housing at various times for help but were told by department staff that there was no housing for them and they must leave. Despite pleas for help, Biel was told that the family was ineligible for emergency housing.

Read the whole article for more such stories (one is about a mentally ill Iraqi) as first world countries act as life boats for Africa and the Middle East.

Meanwhile, more asylum seekers are held in detention and are demonstrating/rioting and harming themselves in order to pressure the Australian government to let them in.

Three refugees arrested in Sky Harbor fake bomb incident

This is a very strange story—three African refugees involved in transporting an apparently harmless item that was made to look like a device that could have been detonated.  I’m struck by the use of the word “refugee” since most of these stories don’t identify a criminal suspect’s immigration status.

Here is the story from the  Crisis Jones Report:

Three African refugees have been arrested after a recent Phoenix airport security check uncovered what appeared to be an explosive device, police said Tuesday.

A U.S. Transportation Security Administration employee discovered a cellphone attached to a container holding an organic material while performing a security check on carry-on bags at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport on Friday, according to Sgt. Steve Martos, a spokesman for the Phoenix Police Department. Police have not yet determined what the organic material is.

Authorities said the Police Department’s bomb squad and the Fire Department’s hazardous-materials crew determined the device was not an explosive.

Officials said the owner of the device, 51-year-old Luwiza Daman, a refugee from Ethiopia, told investigators that an acquaintance had given her the device and asked her to deliver it to an unknown person in Des Moines, Iowa.

Later Friday evening, investigators found a second individual involved in the incident, 25-year-old Shullu Gorado, a refugee from Eritrea, at his residence near 19th Avenue and Camelback Road, Martos said.

Investigators said Gorado told them he gave the device to Daman after a third individual, 34-year-old Shani Asa, a refugee also from Eritrea, gave him the device.

Investigators found Asa on Monday afternoon at his residence near 43rd Avenue and Osborn Road, Martos said.
Asa said he attached the cellphone to the container housing the organic material and gave the device to Gorado, Martos said.

All three individuals were arrested on suspicion of having a hoax device and conspiracy to obtain a hoax device.

Then this reporter at AP wonders how long the three refugees have been in the US.   Dear Reporter: Contact the US State Department for the answer.  While you are at it find out which federal contractor(s) resettled them (start with the Phoenix contractors).

Martos did not know how long Daman, Gorado and Asa have been living in the U.S. He said Gorado and Asa most recently were living in Phoenix but did not know where Daman was living.

I mentioned Sky Harbor here in 2008 when a cleaning service that employed Somali women was told the women could wear their Somali clothes instead of the required uniform.   I wondered about the wisdom of hiring Muslims to clean airports and planes in the first place.

Riots that began in London are about race

Update August 13th:  British Degeneracy on Parade, here.

Update:  Oh, geez, now it’s “Afro-Caribbeans” suspected of killing “Asians” (that is the word they use to describe Pakistani Muslims in the UK), here.  Thank goodness, no evil rich white Christian guy is involved!

For days I couldn’t figure out who were the rioters in London (and now spread to other cities across the UK and Europe).  Truth be told, I wasn’t following it all very closely at first.   Then I saw this piece by Katherine Birbalsingh in The Telegraph that confirmed what I had been guessing—most of the rioters and looters were black, but no one wanted to say it—the politically correct media could not be honest.

From The Telegraph:

What colour is Mark Duggan? Mark Duggan is the man who was shot dead by the police on Thursday in Tottenham. The Tottenham riots last night were sparked when people protested his death. This morning, I first heard of the riots on the radio, then on the television. I read articles on the internet. But oddly, no one would say what colour Mark Duggan was. No one would say the unsayable, that the rioters were, I suspect on the whole, black. Then, finally, Toby Young’s Telegraph blog post on the riots was published. Is Toby Young the only journalist out there who will dare say that these riots are about race?

Still, one paper did carry a photo of Mr Duggan. When I saw the photo, it confirmed what I knew instinctively: black youths once again have set London alight.

If you follow the link above to Toby Young’s blog post, he says the African-Caribbean population is responsible.

Birbalsingh goes on to conclude:

Problems cannot be addressed unless people are willing to tell the truth. As with so many other things in this country, we stick our heads in the sand and refuse to speak out about it.

No fear here of talking about it!

This might be a good time to re-read this June post on how Africans (esp. Somalis) get into the UK.

Canada clearing out its troublesome “refugees,” extradites Somali to Minnesota

Canada appears to be doing what it says it will do—getting rid of its asylum-seeking criminals.

This guy, ho hum another Somali, was wanted in the US for breaking into a home in 2009 and raping a 15-year old.  Hat tip: Cliff.

From Fox 9 News:

MINNEAPOLIS – A Somali man has been arrested and extradited from Canada to face charges in a 2009 Minneapolis home break-in and sexual assault of two teenage girls.

Yahye Abdisalan, 33, was charged last April with first-degree criminal sexual conduct, second-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct and burglary in connection with the December 2009 incident.

According to the criminal complaint, a 17-year-old girl woke up to Abdisalan in her bed, touching her leg. When he pulled of his pants and the girl acted oddly, Abdisalan said “you must not be her.” He then went to the bed of the girl’s 15-year-old sister.

The first girl ran to her parents’ room and alerted them to the attack. Meanwhile, Abdisalan sexually assaulted the 15-year-old girl in her bed. When the parents started toward the girl’s room, Abdisalan took off running down the stairs and out of the apartment.

The girls’ mother was able to grab Abdisalan’s stocking cap as he fled. DNA evidence from the cap was matched to DNA found on the 15-year-old girl.

The Hennepin County attorney’s office obtained a grand jury indictment so that if convicted, Abdisalan can be sentenced to life in prison.

“There are a number of ways to deal with (repeat) sex offenders,” explained Hennepin County Prosecutor Mike Freeman. “I can’t think of a better one than sending him away for life without the opportunity of parole.”

However, Monday’s appearance was far from the first time Abdisalan has been before a judge. In 2002, the Somalia native entered a guilty plea for attempting to sexually assault an 8-year-old girl until her sister started screaming.

Tip to crime victims, grab that hat it’s a treasure trove of information!

By the way, I wonder what it’s going to cost US taxpayers to keep this creep in jail for life—maybe we should seek some reimbursement from the resettlement agency (you know the federal contractors like the wealthy US Conference of Catholic Bishops) that was responsible for his adjustment to America.

For new readers:

The US has admitted well over 100,000 Somali refugees to the US since the early 1990′s (they were trickling in in the 1980′s).   To check out the numbers visit this post, one of our most widely read posts over the last few years.   In FY2010 which ended September 30th the US State Department resettled 4,884 Somalis (here) to towns near you.  The “teen” would-be bomber in Oregon was one of the refugees.

Also, after being closed for nearly two years, the US State Department is on the verge (has been on the verge for months and months!)  of resuming the fraud-ridden family reunification program that admitted as many as 36,000 Somalis fraudulently to the US between 2003 and 2008.  See the latest on new regulations, here.

VEEP’s wife visits the hungry

You can bet we will be bringing many more Somalis to the US in light of the “crisis” on-going now in the Horn of Africa.  Here Jill Biden, Joe’s wife, visits the hungry.  Hubby Joe created the Refugee Act of 1980 with Ted (don’t bring any to Hyannis Port) Kennedy.   Joe’s home state of Delaware is near the bottom of the list for states resettling refugees. The hypocrisy of the “caring class” is stunning beyond belief!

Also,  since Somalis are coming illegally across our borders maybe the rapist in this article isn’t a refugee but came to the US with the help of  American NGOs and asked for asylum.

Comment worth noting: Bowling Green International Center made me sick

From time to time we receive comments from former refugees who give us an insider’s look at a refugee’s life in America.  And, LOL!, you can bet this Bosnian woman wasn’t selected to go to Washington to tell this story at the anniversary bash last week!

For background you might want to re-read the 2009 post ‘Peelow’ is commenting on, here (and this related post) before reading her comment below (I’ve added paragraph breaks to make the comment more readable).

HI,

I just wanted to say that I am a Bosnian refugee who lived in Bowling Green KY for 8 years.

My family and I first moved to Spokane WA through World Relief and after living there for a year we moved to Bowling Green. Bowling Green International Center made me sick to my stomach with the way they treated refugees. Even though most of the employees there are my own people I didn’t want to deal with them.

They made my family and I retake all of our shots needed to apply for Green Card after we brought in sealed envelopes with all of our medical stuff from WA. Luckily my English was very good so I questioned everything. I went to the Health Department and gave the nurse my medical history asking for shots needed to apply for Green Card and that’s when the nurse informed me that I was super up to date with all my shots.

My whole family went to get their shots with an interpreter from the International Center and they all had to get a shot each (God knows what kind of shot). The main reason behind this was so the International Center can collect the ‘filling fee’ for the Green Card and the interpreter services.

A lot of friends and family asked me to interpret for them if they had a doctor visit, delivering a baby, unemployment filing, medicaid filing and I would do it, but then one day I started being told that if I was not associated with the International Center I couldn’t interpret. So what happened here is that people from the International Center contacted all the major agencies in town and convinced them that anybody interpreting and not associated with the IC is not truthful and they should not use their services. But the real truth was that IC interpreters collected state funds for interpreting plus the fees they would charge innocent people who were struggling with English.

I avoided International Center for years until the time came for me to apply for my citizenship. I told my parents that I was going to apply for my American Citizenship and after they realized that my intention was to apply online, or print my application online and mail it myself they started telling me that I will never get an appointment because the International Center told them that the only way you can apply for citizenship is to go through them. They have to give you an application, they fill it out for you and they will get you new copies of all the documents you need and if you try going any other way it won’t work.

I was speechless! I told my parents that they were full of s@@t and I was going to do it my way. I have had my citizenship for almost 3 years now. I graduated from WKU with a B. S. in Business Economics and currently work for a worldly known hospital. Oh did I mention that I no longer live in Bowling Green? Yep, I moved 3.5 hours away looking for a better future and representing my culture and my background in the best way possible.

All of the stories I have read here about Bowling Green and Bosnians are unfortunately true but I have to say that not all Bosnians are bad. Bowling Green is populated with Bosnian Gypsies and Albanians who are prone to violence and the actual Bosnians who cause trouble are the ones from very very rural areas in Bosnia and unfortunately the life in US (very modern country in the world) didn’t teach them anything.

Oh by the way, I was told that the reason why there are so many Bosnians in Bowling Green is because some 15 years ago Bowling Green wanted to become a metro so they accepted refugees to increase their population and that’s why the International Center was set up. Who knows what’s true and what’s not.

One honest truth here is that I cannot thank enough to whomever brought me here because I created a wonderful life for myself without anybody’s help, not government, not parents, not international center. I live your typical American life: pay taxes (most people don’t believe that), pay student loans, got my first FHA mortgage all on my own, live with my boyfriend before marriage (who is by the way American because I couldn’t stand dating Bosnian guys in Bowling Green), got two adorable cats, and love my job.
