Two Minneapolis men charged in attempt to join ISIS Jihadists

Isn’t it funny (not!) that the headline everywhere on this story calls them “Minneapolis men.”  There is surely not one headline with the words ‘Somalis we raised with our tax dollars give us the finger, join Jihad!’ 

Actually, when you read the story in the Minneapolis Star Tribune you can see that one of the two actually succeeded in getting out of the US and is charged in absentia.

For me, it is really simple, let them go and then rescind their passports so they cannot return to America—ever!  That would really send a message!

What are we going to do with this guy—Abdullahi Yusuf—give him a slap on the wrist, put him in jail (at great expense) for a few years and have this angry wannabe jihadist hanging around Minneapolis?

We have followed this same story for years—they are always “disaffected” youths whether they joined Al-shabaab earlier or ISIS now.  And, the trouble will all go away, we are told, when they have more stuff, like youth activities and jobs.  There is virtually no mention that it might not even take a “big fish” recruiter but their desire to go help build the Islamic State might be coming directly from their weekly mosque lessons.

I was alerted to the story by seeing Omar Jamal’s face on Fox News earlier this morning.  Longtime readers know our Somali ‘Jesse Jackson’ well.  See our lengthy archive on news hound Jamal by clicking here.  Jamal was at one point convicted of entering the US illegally but nothing ever happened to him.

Two Twin Cities men accused of trying to join a terrorist organization in Syria were charged with conspiracy Tuesday by federal prosecutors, part of a continuing investigation into a pipeline used to recruit Somali-Americans to fight overseas.

Abdi Nur, 20, of Minneapolis, and Abdullahi Yusuf, 18, of Inver Grove Heights, are charged with conspiring to provide support to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).

Yusuf, who was stopped by FBI agents last May while trying to board a flight at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, appeared before a U.S. magistrate in Minneapolis Tuesday afternoon and was ordered held in custody pending a detention-bail hearing on Wednesday. Nur, who was able to board a flight bound for Turkey last spring, is believed to be in Syria.

“These two young men conspired to travel to the Middle East to engage in a campaign of terror in support of a violent ideology,” said Andy Luger, U.S. attorney in Minnesota.

“Since … 2007, our region has lost dozens of disaffected young people to terrorist organizations that would sooner see Somali-Minnesotans die on foreign battlefields than prosper in peace and security in the United States.”

A federal grand jury convened last spring is investigating the ISIL recruitment pipeline. Federal authorities believe about a dozen Somali-Americans from the Twin Cities, including two women, have managed to fly to the Middle East after being provided assurances of safe passage by ISIL contacts.

“This is a global crisis and we will continue our efforts to prevent Americans from joining the fight,” Assistant Attorney General for National Security John Carlin said Tuesday in Washington.

With Tuesday’s charges, he said, the U.S. Department of Justice has charged more than 15 individuals with offenses “related to the foreign fighter threat in Syria.”

The Obama Justice Department is going to roll out the youth outreach program soon and that will end this foolishness!

For community leader Abdirizak Bihi, the indictments create a sense of urgency as the Justice Department rolls out its youth outreach program.

Bihi said he believes that, in addition to online recruitment videos and social media, there must be recruiters working on the ground in the United States. “There must be somebody here to plant the seeds,” he said.

“The whole community is interested to know who is behind this, who the masterminds are.”

Maybe there is no mastermind, maybe it’s pretty simple—Mohammad told them to do it.

Syrian hunger strikers in Athens want passports so they can leave

Update November 30th:  We want a better country! (here).

They apparently aren’t looking for Greece to give them asylum there, they must want to move on to a more desirable European country (Germany? the UK?) and the invasion of Europe continues.

We presume they are feeding the children.

About 500 Syrian refugees including women and children have staged their sixth day of a hunger strike in front of Greece’s Parliament House in Athens.

The hunger-strikers, who reached Greece from Turkey in inflatable boats, called on the Greek government to observe their rights as refugees and held placards reading: “We escaped from death in Syria to vagrancy in Greece.”

Khalsa, a 40-year-old woman who had been Greece for almost two months, told Anadolu Agency on Monday: “We are seeking asylum and some decent treatment. My four children and and husband are still in Syria.”  [I simply don’t believe this unless her children are grown—ed]

She said she had lost all contact with her family since she had arrived in Athens.

Refaat, another Syrian refugee who had been in Greece for four months, said: “We faced problems on our way here, but the Greek authorities treated us well in order for us to arrive safely.”

But he said the government needed to listen to them and take into consideration their rights as refugees.

“We want the Greek government to give us passports in order for us to be able to leave,” he said

Malta: “Patriots” protest against illegal aliens; fear Muslim takeover of Malta

Patriots!  (I do love the Tea Party lingo!)

Some of the people of Malta have had it with the huge influx of illegal aliens from Africa and the Middle East and have now joined France, the UK, Sweden, and Italy (among others) in forming a political movement in an effort to halt immigration into Europe.

From Malta Today:

Malta could become a Muslim state within the next 20 years, according to Alex Pisani, the president of the self-declared Organisation of Maltese Patriots (Ghaqda Patrijotti Maltin).

“The people don’t yet know what integration means, it is like giving people full citizenship rights,” Pisani said. “These people will then also be able to bring their family members over. At this rate, we expect Malta to become an African or Muslim state within the next 20 years. Islam is slowly taking over Europe, but we have one religion- Catholicism, and we are proud of it.”

He was speaking right before the organisation’s second anti-immigration protest on Saturday morning, this time with a specific emphasis on their perceived problems brought about by integration with foreign cultures.

Pisani, 61, of Valletta, and the owner of a confectionery, again denied being a racist.

“I’m not fighting for my skin colour but for my Maltese identity,” he explained.

Although here I must say, watching Ferguson, MO burn while the US has a black President could make one wonder if the white race is under siege around the world.  Race relations in America have probably been set back decades by lack of respect for the rule of law and the violent mobs destroying other peoples’ lives and property in Ferguson.

Urging the fearful to come out and express their opinions publicly, Pisani went on to say this this:

“This is your future we’re fighting for,” Pisani told onlookers. “You should be ashamed of yourselves for not uniting with us in this protest.”

The protest ended outside Castille, with Pisani praising the cheering crowd for being “true patriots” and criticising the people who only share their anti-immigration views on Facebook.

Puppets of the EU!

When asked whether his support for such parties means that he is in favour of Malta leaving the European Union, Pisani said that it will work out well for Malta as “we have become puppets of the EU.”

Norway Intelligence Service warns terrorists may pose as Syrian refugees and asylum seekers

Really, no kidding!

Norway has already had 10,000 asylum claims this year with 1,700 from Syria.

PST [Police Intelligence Service] is concerned that people with extreme militant connections in Syria come to Norway.

Talking to TV2, PST superintendent Svein Erik Molstad said their main concern is individuals misusing refugees and asylum system, and bring the violence in Syria to Norway.

Against this threat, PST has now established new procedures for closer cooperation with the Police Immigration Service (PU) and UDI. The goal is to tighten the selection of people to be granted residence in Norway.

First Bhutanese refugee advocacy day on Capitol Hill; they would like Congress to help them get home

In 2007, just as RRW was getting off the ground, the Bush Administration said that the US would “welcome” 60,000 Bhutanese (mostly Hindu) here over 5 years (read one of many accounts, here).

We are now up to 80,000 of the Bhutanese (really Nepali people) who were booted out of Bhutan after living there for a generation or two.  Nepal didn’t want its ethnic people back, so they lived in UN-run camps on the edge of Nepal before Bush said, let them come (The contractors need ‘clients’ and we need more docile laborers anyway!  Bush didn’t exactly say that, but that is the reality).

Their arrival here was traumatic for many and news is plentiful about their hardships in the land whose streets are (NOT!) paved with gold.  Their high rate of suicide in the US has not gone unnoticed by health officials (here is one recent story on that subject).

Refugees as pawns!

When I saw this news, my first reaction was ho-hum now they want some special favors for their people, so I was surprised to see that they want the US to pressure Bhutan to let some of them return to Bhutan from the camps and to let some of those resettled here to return as well! 

This is not the first time we have seen “refugees” beg to go home after they learned the harsh reality of life in America.  (See a post from 2010 here about how we brought thousands of Kosovars here in 1999, paid resettlement contractors to get them ‘settled,’ and then airlifted them ‘home’ within a year).

There is no incentive to slow the flow!

In 1999, the contractors were in need of warm bodies (they are paid by the head to resettle refugees and it is the need for the continuous cash flow that keeps this whole scheme afloat)  and so they pressured the Clinton Administration to bring them some paying customers.  Frankly, I think this is the same thing that happened with the Bhutanese and I always wondered why the mighty US (and the bullies at the UN) couldn’t financially pressure Bhutan and Nepal to repatriate their people instead of undertaking a hugely expensive resettlement of an entire population and then scattering them across the US and destroying their culture.

For the first time in the US Congress, the Bhutanese American Advocacy Day has been celebrated.

There are around 80,000 Bhutanese refugees in the US.

Organised by the Hindu American Foundation (HAF) early this week on November 17, the first-of-its-kind event featured a congressional briefing along with meetings with the State Department and several House and Senate offices, the foundation said in a statement.

Life isn’t so good in America, we want to go home!

The Bhutanese delegation also asked the State Department and members of Congress to assist in applying multilateral diplomatic pressure on Bhutan to repatriate refugees remaining in the camps of Nepal as well as those resettled in other countries who long to return to their ancestral homeland.

Panelists sought to educate policy makers on the challenges endured by Bhutanese Hindus resettling here in the US, as well as the ongoing human rights concerns in Bhutan.

Bhutanese Hindu refugees living in major cities throughout the US are facing a number of challenges, including a high incidence of mental illness and suicide, trouble obtaining employment and difficulty in retaining their cultural and religious traditions.

Thanks to Obama, their difficulty in finding employment will only get harder as they compete with 5 million newly legalized aliens.
