UNHCR warns that Malta is in deep trouble as Libya implodes; RRW: Clinton, Rice, Power at fault

Before I report the latest news from poor Malta, let’s remember exactly where the blame lies for the deterioration of Libya—it falls squarely on the United Nations and Obama’s “humanitarian Vulcans”***—Hillary Clinton, Samantha Power and Susan Rice—as I reported here in 2011 and more recently, here.

(To our US readers, I will get back to refugee news from America, but Europe’s death spiral is rapidly speeding up at the moment and we must report on it.)

From the Times of Malta where the UN tells Malta it must “integrate” the migrants and others.  How many ISIS fighters will be among them?   Malta Patriots prepare!

The local representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Jon Hoisaeter has urged Malta to prepare for a potential upsurge in migrant departures from Libya as the situation in that country deteriorates.

Malta, the European country being targeted by the invaders from Libya.

Speaking before the Social Affairs Committee, he said the situation in Libya could see Libyans escaping from that country, and not just migrants.

Talks about the evolving scenario were being held at various levels with the Ministry of Home Affairs. However, there was no comprehensive discussion on any contingency plan for the various scenarios which may emerge.

He did not wish to be alarmist, he said, but the UNHCR wished to help the Maltese government in planning for potential future scenarios such as massive movements across the sea as the worsening situation in Libya led to more people leaving that country – not just third country nationals in Libya, but also Libyans.

This was something which needed to be high on everyone’s agenda and Malta should also be discussing what support it could receive from the EU and what it could plan, with Italy, for example.

“We need to be ready for a potentially difficult year, a potential year of record arrivals in Malta. I am not being alarmist, I am not saying this is necessarily the most likely outcome, but it is something we should discuss now, not in the summer when the focus will be on the immediate response, not planning,” he said.

***The phrase “humanitarian Vulcans” comes from Edward Klein’s book The Amateur.

Reader Robin sent us this story from Yahoo News. Yes one more story about the tens of thousands of mostly economic migrants arriving in Europe after crossing the Mediterranean Sea with the help of human traffickers.  One paragraph (ten paragraphs in to a twelve paragraph report) caught Robin’s attention and ours. It is this one:

Some people, however, will continue to help the seemingly endless flow of migrants who leave the shores of Libya daily, such as U.S.-born Chris and Regina Catrambone and their Malta-based rescue operation, the Migrant Offshore Aid Ship. This couple self-funded the purchase of a 40-meter former coaster and employed a crew of 18 during the summer of 2014. They rescued more than 3,000 people found drifting in cramped boats in the waters off Malta and Libya.

Who are these “Americans” who are actually encouraging more illegal migration attempts with their supposed generosity?

Frankly, the only thing that will save Europe now is if the boats leaving North Africa are intercepted and turned back, just as Australia is doing.  Even just turning a few back would likely have a chilling effect on the invasion.  However, there is no sign that European leaders understand the calamity they are unleashing by their cowardice.

Here (at the BBC) is what we learned about the Catrambones:  Only Chris is American, they are multimillionaires, they live on Malta (poor Malta), and they have outfitted a ship to rescue boat people—Somalis, and other North Africans, as well as Middle Easterners, ISIS terrorists?—who launch from hellholes like Libya every day trying to reach Europe.

We have taken as “refugees” 196 of Malta’s illegal aliens in the first 4 months of FY2015.

Any Member of Congress concerned about this should be drafting legislation to stop this unlawful practice.  (Yes, I believe it is unlawful).

The UN is testing a new way of keeping track of who is who in refugee camps around the world, but here is the hitch—they first must have real proof of who you really are.   They don’t say that of course, but that is the ultimate problem with the system.  You could be anyone who shows up at a camp and reports that you have no papers (you were running for your life, but maybe you have a criminal record in S. Africa), give a name, any name, and soon have a rock solid identity and a UN ID card.

So who, exactly, am I? Refugees line up at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi.

Come to think of it, wouldn’t it be great to have such an ID (with Iris data!) to vote in the US (of course with the proper paperwork to prove who you are in the first place and that you are a legal citizen).  Walk in, have your Iris scanned and then vote!

DZALEKA, Malawi, January 22 (UNHCR) – The UN refugee agency has completed initial testing of a new biometrics system that should help it better register and protect people, verify their identity and target assistance for the forcibly displaced in operations around the world.

The identification management tool, which is being developed by UNHCR with a private sector company, was tested here at Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Malawi last month. It stores fingerprints, iris data and photographs for facial recognition and will include an emergency feature to aid in fixing populations in advance of full registration. For refugees without ID, this becomes a vital record.

Refugees questioned by UNHCR said they were happy because now there was a permanent record of their identity. Many refugees lose their documents during flight and this can cause them problems later and restrict access to aid and protection. “I can be someone now. I am registered globally with the UN and you’ll always know who I am,” said 43-year-old Congolese refugee Olivier Mzaliwa, echoing the thoughts of other refugees.

But, is Olivier really who he told them he was?

I have become such a cynic!

 

Black South Africans’ “xenophobia” threatens image of South African ruling party

No surprise that worries are mounting about the violence being spread by black South Africans against foreigners that is threatening the carefully-cultivated lovey-dovey multicultural mecca image of the Rainbow Nation!

Where is the worldwide media?  Can you imagine if this photo above showed white South Africans stealing Somali stuff?

While the great educated minds struggle to figure out what to call the phenomenon, could we maybe just label it what it likely is—a natural desire to live with one’s own tribe—tribalism!

The recent looting of shops owned by African and Asian immigrants poses an ideological threat to the party that has ruled South Africa since the end of apartheid, a prominent scholar has suggested.

“The violence is an effort by individuals, or a group, to achieve economic advancement, political power or recognition, or a sense of social or criminal justice,” Prof. Loren Landau, director of the African Center for Migration and Society at the University of the Witwatersrand, told The Anadolu Agency.

Over the past few weeks, more than 1,000 shops owned by immigrants from Somalia, Ethiopia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and elsewhere have been looted in townships around Johannesburg.

Officials have shied away from labeling the violence “xenophobia” per se, suggesting that the incidents were mere petty crime.

But Landau, a prominent migration expert, fears more is at stake.

“Accepting that the poor black population is angry, differentiated, discriminatory and organized represents a visible threat to the African National Congress (ANC) and its political project,” he said.  [Discriminatory!!!—ed]

“Rather than a unified and inclusive citizenry that continues to struggle against the legacy of white oppression, we see a black population that is willing to turn on foreigners and other South African ‘outsiders’ in ways that reject the party’s political legitimacy and promises,” Landau asserted.

The ANC, which defines itself as social democratic party, has ruled South Africa since the end of the apartheid era and the establishment of multi-racial democracy in 1994.

The party says it seeks to address socio-economic differences resulting from apartheid-era policies and empower citizens socially, economically and politically.

There has been much debate since the 2008 attacks about the specific targets of the violence and whether xenophobia could adequately explain the phenomenon.

The most visible targets have been foreigners from other African countries.

But Landau says that similar violence has also been meted out against South Africans who happened to be from the wrong place, village or group.

Who are the 514 “refugees” the US has taken from South Africa in the first four months of this fiscal year?  South Africa is considered a stable country, so who the heck are these “refugees.”  Somalis?

Seattle Somalis protest against a refugee agency over Mohammed cartoon

Looks like it’s Somali Sunday here at RRW.  Sure hope it won’t turn into Somali week!

It is not some bad ol’ edgy newspaper or rightwing blogger feeling the heat, but in what has to be juicy irony a long-time refugee agency that is a mecca of multicultural love and understanding in Seattle is facing the heat from Somali protestors.

The protestors who stood outside of Refugee Women’s Alliance on Friday were angry that one of its staff members had the naivete’ to think that here in America showing a Mohammed cartoon in a discussion about freedom of speech and religion is perfectly acceptable.

One of the cartoons that offends the Somalis—those refugees we are welcoming to America at the rate of 9,000 a year now.

Guess not!  The teacher, who is from India, may be fired (but, in the meantime, she has left the country!).

Controversy over cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammed hit home in Seattle recently, culminating in a protest outside of southend refugee service provider on Friday.

A group of Somali Americans gathered outside the Refugee Women’s Alliance (ReWA) on Martin Luther King, Jr. Way to demand the resignation of a teacher who showed the cartoons to her teenage students on the day after the Charlie Hebdo attacks in Paris.

“We’re not gonna be silent when it’s something that’s not right,” said Hassan Aden, who was one of between 15 to 20 people who attended the protest. “We’re trying to show that we’re not happy with what she did.”

The teacher, Deepa Bhandaru, recently earned her Ph.D from the UW Political Science department, and works for ReWA teaching a free class on world affairs for youth, where she showed the cartoons during a lesson on free speech and religious pluralism.

Be sure to have a look at the most recent Form990 for Refugee Women’s Alliance just one of the hundreds of contractors and subcontractors living off the taxpayers to help the ‘stranger’.    In 2013 its total income (p. 9) was $5.5 million and $4.4 million came from government grants. It reaped another $600,000 from child care income (some of that was probably subsidized by taxpayers too)!

What is wrong with this picture—we pay to feed, clothe, house and educate them and get a kick in the teeth as a reward!
