As conservative Virginia watchers decry the state’s slide into the blue, there are still pockets of patriots in the heart of the old dominion where some elected officials are standing up to the Democrats.
Described as the “heart of Virginia,” Appomattox County stands out this morning as one such place.
There may be others, but I think I would have heard of them—counties that are backing the President and telling his State Department that they don’t want any refugees in 2020.
You need to know that Appomattox hasn’t been a resettlement site, but you also need to know that the President’s offer to weigh-in on the issue is not limited to historically prime refugee placement sites.
Frankly anywhere in America is vulnerable as I pointed out here, here, and here:
Virginia’s Democrat Governor Ralph ‘blackface’ Northamwas one of the first governors in the nation to tell the State Department—send more refugees our way because we have run out of poor people in Virginia and we need more reliably Democrat voters (who want free stuff) to eventually outnumber the deplorables. (He didn’t exactly say that, but that is what he means!).
The vote against becoming a refugee placement county comes in the wake of a virtual civil war going on in Virginia over gun rights.
UPDATE: (WSET) — Appomattox County voted in support of a resolution refusing to become a refugee sanctuary.
In the heart of Virginia!
The Appomattox County Town Council voted to refuse to become a refugee sanctuary because they don’t have the funds to provide services to refugees.
[….]
Chairman Samuel Carter said the county is economically depressed.
He says the county would have to provide safety, education and housing for refugees.
“Finding the appropriate property in all to house this,” said Carter. “Is this going to interfere with future buildings or structures?”
Carter said there are a lot of unknowns in becoming a refugee sanctuary, which is why they support the town.
He said the county also doesn’t have an influx of refugees re-settling to the area.
Residents said they are happy with the board’s decision and they agree with the county.
The update jumps to an earlier story.
It is important for you to know about the Second Amendment fight going on in Virginia. Interesting that Appomattox County elected officials have connected the issues.
APPOMATTOX Co., Va. (WSET) — More than 70 localities in Virginia have voted to become a ‘Second Amendment Sanctuary’ sending a message to state lawmakers they want to protect their right to bear arms, but a local county is trying to send another one.
Leaders in Appomattox County approved a resolution in November.
By becoming a Second Amendment Sanctuary community, the Board of Supervisors says it will oppose, within the limits of the law, any efforts to unconstitutionally restrict gun rights and use legal means to keep it from happening.
The decision to start declaring localities a ‘Second Amendment Sanctuary’ comes after Virginia Democrats took control of the General Assembly in the latest election.
Governor Ralph Northam said he plans to pass stricter gun laws that include universal background checks.
Northam also announced in November that Virginia will continue to welcome refugees fleeing danger and persecution after President Donald Trump signed federal Executive Order 13888.
Even if you haven’t been a prime target for the placement of refugees or for the placement of unaccompanied alien children, your county can go on record.
Go herefor the address at the US State Department. And, check out which states and counties have said YES to more refugees, here.
LOL! I don’t know if the State Department plans to list counties that say NO!
Don’t be confused by the cities that have sent consent letters, it is county commissioners who are the decision-makers according to the State Department funding guidance.
Those are the rules in order for the refugee contractors to get more money after June 2020.
For new readers these (below) are the nine federally-funded refugee contractors that monopolize all refugee placement in America. For decades they have decided in secrecy where to place refugees and they don’t want to lose that power because even as they pontificate about their religious convictions and humanitarian zeal, they are Leftwing political groups working to change America by changing the people and using your money to do it!
Funny that I just reported in my previous post about Minnesota’s Leftwing ‘religious’ (aka Interfaith) groups, about how good the cultural Marxists are at community organizing, and that we need grassroots groups that put America First!
What do you know! some are organizing on our side—on the side of Christian conservatism.
Here is a postfrom Conservative Christians of Tennessee about how their Republican governor has gone all wobbly on whether Catholic Charities, working for the US State Department, can just willy-nilly send Africans, Asians and Middle Easterners to the state for Tennessee taxpayers to support.
Bill Lee Looks Refugee Gift Horse in Mouth, Considers Kissing
One doesn’t often arise from a peaceful slumber on a Saturday happy and well rested only to experience an almost instantaneous mood change. That happened today.
Thanks, Bill Lee. Yeah, the same guy we endorsed as “Best Choice” for Governor of Tennessee. Our peaceful Saturday morning slumber was wrecked with limp-wristed political wavering.
The reason we’re hopping mad at 5:00 am on a Saturday morning is that Bill Lee didn’t immediately accept President Trump’s recent gift to states, an executive order allowing states to reject refugee resettlement within their borders. We wrote about this recently in our article, “President Trump Just Revolutionized America’s Refugee Program.” We were excited to think that the Federal Government would stop forcing states to permanently accept refugees that the states then had to eternally support. CCOT felt that state’s rights and self-determination were being uplifted in our highest halls of government.
Since even Liberal USA Todaysays that more than half of immigrants are on welfare, we assumed that Governor Lee would additionally see this as a clear-cut issue of food fiscal policy for Tennessee.
Continue reading to see how the Republican governor is waffling.
And, near the end we see that Conservative Christians describe real Christian charity as it relates to refugees as this:
Conservative Christians of Tennessee has long held that the refugee program is destructive in its current form. US Policy should encourage Christian Ministries to meet and assist refugees as close to the point of conflict as is possible and prepare them to return to their point of origin to help rebuild the nations they have left.
We have long advocated for real Christians to use their private charitable dollars (not taxpayers’ wallets) to do their charitable good works abroad.
Additionally, protecting refugees in their own cultural zones is infinitely kinder than shipping them thousands of miles away and dropping them in places like Chicago!
Do you have a Conservative Christian group in your state? If not, why not?
If you haven’t called your governor and county government leaders, know that the refugee contractors*** are pushing for Christmas to get their consent for more refugees into the US State Department.
The more I learn about the globalist billionaires funding the open borders movement the more I realize why they hate Donald Trump so much.
Don’t get too discouraged, remember you are up against Hard Left community organizers who are heavily funded by the likes of George Soros, Paul Singer and Michael Bloomberg to name just three of the globalists hiding behind phony humanitarianism.
What they really want, but dare not say it, is a free flow of cheap labor across the planet.
Go to the State Department website here to see which governors have signed up. Note the city governments. I don’t know what the feds will do about that as the guidance says county commissioners are the elected officials who must decide on the local level.

Because of the national attentionBurleigh County’s Monday meeting was generating, the governor obviously went to the Administration to get clarification on how the process works and I want to comment on a few items he posted from the governor’s office.
But, he hadn’t gottenthe clarificationwhen he sent his letter supporting the program way back on November 19th in which he says they are happily integrating their refugees into their workforce.
White House clarifies proposed figures for refugee resettlement as local jurisdictions weigh consent
Here are a few points I want to highlight this morning from what the governor reports.
First, he got clarification that under the new Trump resettlement program this same process will be used every year, and each year the local community and the governor must consent.
The Office of Intergovernmental Affairs confirmed that local jurisdictions will need to consent every year for refugee resettlement to continue.
He learned that in addition to the 18,000 cap on the regular refugee program for fiscal year 2020 (which began on October 1, 2019) there will be 10,000 additional special refugees from Afghanistan and Iraq (virtually all Muslims we surmise) who supposedly helped our military in some way or other.
They are treated as refugees with all the social service benefits refugees receive, but with one important exception—they can go anywhere in America they wish. Regular refugees are placed by contractors*** in the locations they choose.
The Office of Intergovernmental Affairs also stated that up to 10,000 Special Immigrant Visa (SIV) holders – individuals who were employed by or on behalf of the U.S. government in either Iraq or Afghanistan – are eligible for reception and placement services through the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program. Unlike refugees, SIV holders can choose where to settle in the United States. LSS is allowed to provide services to SIV holders and has served up to 21 annually since 2016, though none were served in 2019, according to the agency, which includes SIV holders in its reported total for refugee resettlements.
Then he did confirm why Republicans like himself support the flow of low-skilled refugees to America—because their state business interests want the low wage workers. And, because they don’t want any global corporations that might be eyeing ND to think the state is filled with bigoted hateful people. (He doesn’t say that, but that is what he means.)
“We support the administration giving states and local jurisdictions the consent authority on whether to continue receiving refugees, and we respect the right to exercise local control,” Burgum said. “That being said, we have serious concerns that denying resettlement to a handful of well-vetted and often family-connected refugees would send a negative signal beyond our borders at a time when North Dakota is facing a severe workforce shortage and trying to attract capital and talent to our state.”
Never mind that those low-skilled refugees earning low wages will need taxpayer-funded services and will eventually vote the Republicans out of office.
North Dakota is done for now, but you will have another shot at it later this year as the feds prepare for fiscal year 2021 that begins on October first of 2020! Assuming he runs again, Burgum will be up for re-election at that same time.
For many years, it has seen a lot of controversy over refugee resettlement. I just was reminded when I scanned my posts on the state that the Somali knife attacker in St. Cloud in 2016 was a refugee originally resettled in Fargo, ND

Update December 10: A reader suggests you copy your letters (that you are writing to county commissions and to your governor) to the US Secretary of State. See here.
Well, heck the Refugee Council USA (the lobbying arm of the refugee industry) prepared a “tool kit” for their followers to use to help them organize against the President and to argue for more refugees.
Governor Little is a fan of Chobani Yogurt (just so you know)!
Well, we can do that too! A reader from Idaho shared his letter to Republican Governor Brad Little.
It’s great, you can use it too!
Simply substitute your governor’s name and your state! Maybe add a few more points you want to specifically make!
Dear Gov Little,
I am writing to urge you to advise the State Dept that Idaho will NOT accept any more refugees. While I suspect Chobani and other Big Ag interests will push for a massive increase in refugee numbers, the fact of the matter is that many parts of Idaho are already experiencing a housing shortage as well as burgeoning school enrollments. We need to take care of our state first.
Idaho has a relatively small population and you can bet that most refugees will vote for Democrats, the party of Open Borders and Free Stuff. We can’t out-pander the Dems, so let’s not try.
A major problem for states in taking refugees is that local governments end up paying most of the costs for their healthcare and education. Most refugees arrive with no English proficiency or useful skills, many are illiterate in any language. This places a huge burden on our educational system, a burden shouldered by local taxpayers. Refugees often arrive with serious health problems that local hospital districts are expected to pay for. Local governments are required to provide interpreters in hospital, court and educational systems, regardless of how exotic the language and expensive those services are.
These are the kind of costs that “welcoming” states are required to provide. I’m sick and tired of the feds dumping costs on local taxpayers. The Refugee Act of 1980 promised that state and local governments would not be forced to pay these costs. They lied, but what else would you expect from a bill written by Ted Kennedy and Joe Biden and signed by Jimmy Carter? That says it all.
Finally, once a state says that refugees are welcome they will have no choice as to what kind of refugees they receive. This is a problem because most refugees are chosen by the UNHCR, a corrupt institution run by an organization that hates us. Politicians are always saying these people are seriously vetted, but that’s a lie. Many countries sending us refugees are failed states that have little info on the people they are choosing and we’re supposed to trust the UN.
While I am sure you’ll be getting lots of mail from refugee contractors, this is one from an actual voter. Just say NO to more refugees!
Thank you for reading!
By the way, Idaho has taken a lot of refugees over the years, so the Governor could simply say that the state needs a breather, time for the existing refugees to assimilate.
See the right hand side bar for the governors who have caved already and told the President that they want more impoverished refugees placed in their (your!) state.
I told you here last weekabout how county commissioners in Burleigh County (Bismarck), ND had postponed a decision about whether the county would ‘welcome’ refugees or not after President Trump has gone out on a political limb to invite states and mostly counties to say whether they want more refugees (or not) now, and into the foreseeable future.
So many people turned out at the meeting that the decision was postponed, but will be on the agenda tomorrow night in Bismarck.
One of the smartest things I’ve heard from any elected official is this from Commissioner Chairman Brian Bitner:
“I haven’t seen anything in this package, anywhere, that tells me that we’re consenting to five or 50 or 500 or anything. So North Dakota is already the highest per capita state for refugee resettlement in terms of number of citizens, so in the absence of any sort of number, there’s no way we could know the cost to the state or the county, and I simply can’t support that,” said Bitner.
And there won’t be any number given in advance!
When a governor or local elected official sends permission to the US State Department it is an open-ended invitation for any number from anywhere in the world.
It also signals that the state and local government agree to take on the financial burden of the social service costs refugees rack up. (State and local taxpayers carry most of the tax burden for their care as the federal government has over time shifted the cost to the states.)
That 50-100 mile radius issue!
So, know this, if Burleigh County says yes tomorrow night they are saying yes for placement of third worlders in any location within a hundred miles of the county.
This region includes 22 counties: Burleigh, ND; Dunn, ND; Emmons, ND; Foster, ND; Grant, ND; Hettinger, ND; Kidder, ND; Logan, ND; McHenry, ND; McIntosh, ND; McLean, ND; Mercer, ND; Morton, ND; Oliver, ND; Sheridan, ND; Sioux, ND… plus 6 more counties.
So all of you who live within a hundred miles, know that you are not off the hook!
Refugee advocates in ND are claiming that incoming refugee numbers are so low under Trump that there won’t be that many coming to Burleigh County anyway. Those refugee promoters also say Bismarck needs more diversity!
Stop and think! When Trump is no longer in the White House, the refugee spigot is going to be opened wide and your county will have said—bring ’em in!
Here is the news about the meeting tomorrow night. If you live in Bismarck or anywhere within a hundred miles try to get there!
Even if you can’t beat Open Borders Inc, you can at least show up and thank the President for giving you an opportunity to help decide the future of your community.
Burleigh County to Hold Special Refugee Resettlement Meeting
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota county will hold a special meeting next week to take comments on whether it should resettle additional refugees.
Burleigh County commissioners postponed action on the matter at a meeting Monday after an overflow crowd showed up to address the issue.
A recent executive order by President Donald Trump stated that new efforts to resettle refugees would have to receive permission from state and local governments. North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum announced last month that the state would continue to receive refugees as long as local governments agreed.
The public will be able to voice opinions Dec. 9 on whether to allow Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota to continue resettling refugees in the county. Commissioners could vote on the matter at the special meeting Monday.
The Cass County Commission voted unanimously Monday to allow Lutheran Social Services of North Dakota to continue its refugee resettlement program.
