Kenya to close massive refugee camps! Will we be expected to take more?

You betcha!

dadaab cholera
Dadaab refugee camp in Kenya. Photo is from a story about a cholera outbreak there late last year. http://crofsblogs.typepad.com/h5n1/2015/12/msf-cholera-outbreak-spreads-to-dadaab-refugee-camp.html

A very large number of the Somali refugees arriving in the US come from camps, like Dadaab, in Kenya.  If Kenya goes through with closing the camps this time (they threatened it a year ago, but they look more serious now), you can bet we will be expected to take even more!
We are taking Somalis at the rate of 750 a month right now, see here.
Before you read the story, visit the State Department Data base here and then click on this:

You will see that Kenya is our second highest processing country.  We don’t take Kenyans so surely most of these are Somalis from camps there.  The top three processing sites in the world all involve Muslim ‘refugees.’
The numbers in parenthesis are those we admitted to the US from those locations in 7 months:

Malaysia (4,694)

Kenya (3,280)

Turkey (2,692)

From Deutsche Welle (I don’t blame Kenya one bit!):

The Kenyan government has announced the closure of two refugee camps, including one of the world’s biggest, citing financial challenges and a lack of security. Rights groups have condemned the closure plan.

On Friday, Kenyan authorities said the camps were having an adverse affect on the country’s economy. Officials said the international community should take responsibility for the humanitarian needs of the refugees.

Kenya has hosted refugees for nearly 25 years, with a number of its neighboring East African countries facing protracted civil wars.

The government also disbanded the Department of Refugee Affairs, which worked with humanitarian organizations for the welfare of the refugees.

“The government of the Republic of Kenya, having taken into consideration its national security interests, has decided that hosting of refugees has to come to an end,” said a statement released by Interior Ministry official Karanja Kibicho.

[….]

The camps that will be shut down are Daadab and Kakuma. There are more than 328,000 refugees in the Daadab refugee camp in eastern Kenya – mostly the Somali refugees escaping an al-Shabab-led Islamist insurgency in their country. The Kakuma camp hosts 190,000 refugees, mostly from South Sudan.

The article goes on to say that rights activists think Kenya should integrate these hundreds of thousands of Somalis etc.  Well, gee, what would happen to Kenya and Kenyans then? Kenya would turn into an expansion of Somalia!
Finally, you should know that the Somali government is encouraging the return of Somalis to rebuild their country, here.  It just isn’t fast enough for the Kenyans!

Kenya: UNHCR out! Somalis out!

Update April 16th: Lutherans and Catholics squabble about whether it’s a good idea or not to close Dadaab, here.

In the wake of that horrific attack by al-Shabaab at Easter where over 100 Christians were slaughtered by Somalis, the Kenyan government wants the massive camp (where we get a large number of the US-bound Somalis from!) closed.

They are also planning a border wall with Somalia!

Close the camp! The US is accepting refugees from this massive UNHCR camp, Dadaab, in Kenya which the Kenyan government now wants closed in order to move the Somalis and the UN out of Kenya!

From AP (hat tip: Joanne).  The UNHCR has three months to get out!

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — The United Nations High Commission for Refugees has three months to close a refugee camp in eastern Kenya and send the more than 400,000 Somalis living there back to their country or else the Kenyan government will relocate them, Kenya’s Deputy President William Ruto has said.

The Kenyan government says the Dadaab refugee camp in eastern Kenya has become a recruitment center for the extremist group al-Shabab whose gunmen last week killed 148 people at the country’s Garissa College University. Ruto said in a rally on Saturday that Kenya must be secured at all costs.

Garissa is our 9/11:

“We have asked the UNHCR to relocate the refugees in three months, failure to which we shall relocate them ourselves. The way America changed after 9/11 is the way Kenya will change after Garissa,” Ruto said in a statement distributed by his press office.  [Only problem is that our lesson was short-lived!—ed]

Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta vowed a sharp response to last week’s attack at the university. Kenyan warplanes attacked suspected militant positions in Somalia, and the government said Wednesday that it was freezing accounts of organizations and individuals suspected of financing Islamic extremists.

Earlier in the week, the Kenyan government broke ground on a border wall with Somalia.  Learn more here.

UN choosing refugees for us from UN camps in Kenya!

A large number of our new US Somali refugees come from the UNHCR camps in Kenya.   We don’t take Kenyans as refugees so when you visit the State Department data and see that 1,424 refugees were processed into the US from Kenya from October 1, 2014 until April 6, 2015 (a little over 6 months!) know that they are largely Somalis the UN has chosen for us!

We have admitted to the US in that same time period a total of 4,425 Somalis picked up around the world!  (See data here) That means we will surely surpass 9,000 new Somalis in the US by the end of the fiscal year on September 30th.

If the FBI says we can’t screen the Syrians, how on earth are we screening the Somalis?

As Muslim population grows, the Islamization of Kenya is underway

Update April 2nd:  Somali Islamists slaughter 147 mostly Christians in Kenya today, here.

This is an excellent summary of how it is happening—whether it’s the Islamization of Europe, Christian countries in Africa, like Kenya, and eventually in Minneapolis, Dearborn and a town near you—as the Muslim population expands, Muslim leaders increase their demands that infidels change to accommodate Islam.  And, hovering menacingly in the background is the threat of violence.

Rt. Rev. Robert Martin, leader of the Anglican Diocese of Marsabit: “There is the belief that Islam is pursuing the Islamization of Kenya.”

I’ve just snipped a few small bits from the lengthy Christian Science Monitor piece from yesterday, so please read it all.  I think you will be surprised at the weakness of the Christian church in Africa.

“There is this fear that Muslims are stepping on other people’s toes by demanding to practice their faith in places that don’t belong to them,” says Hassan Ole Naado, head of the Supreme Council of Kenya Muslims (SUPKEM).

It’s a reckoning happening worldwide, with Europe in particular grappling with how to accommodate Muslim immigrants. But in Kenya, the presence of militants in neighboring Somalia who have vowed to retaliate for Kenya’s military intervention there adds immediacy to the problem.

This bolder face is seen across Kenya’s disparate Muslim communities: They are forming civil rights advocacy groups, ascending within the Kenyan government…

It doesn’t take a Muslim majority to bring a country to its knees:

To Christians, who make up about 80 percent of Kenya’s population and have long dominated political and social institutions, the rise comes with a tinge of menace.

[….]

“Most of our church leaders feel Muslims are trying to take over government,” says the Rt. Rev. Robert Martin, an Englishman who leads the Anglican Diocese of Marsabit. “There is the belief that Islam is pursuing the Islamization of Kenya.”

Of course it is!

Photo comes from a very interesting story here about the Anglican split from the Episcopal church.

African refugees bring more cultural enrichment and “drama,” this time to Erie, PA

This must be Somalis-gone-wild week or something!  ‘Pungentpeppers’ just spotted this story from a few weeks ago about armed “Kenyans” from Buffalo invading the home of “Africans” in Erie.  By the sound of the names, most of those involved appear to be Somalis.

Both Erie, PA and Buffalo, NY are top resettlement sites for African (and other) refugees. Both are US State Department preferred communities, here.

Interesting that these invaders also used the automobile ramming technique we just heard about in Amarillo (”where subtle aspects of far-away cultures have taken root”).

Kaltuma Hassan (center): “A lot of Africans, they have drama and drama always go on. So they think the only way to settle it, is to kill somebody or fight somebody.”

From Erie TV News (be sure to watch the video!).  Don’t you wonder if this was a random attack or whether someone in the household was being targeted?

And, check it out, a quick response by the police saved the family!

Six people from Buffalo, New York are sitting in the Erie County jail after police say they invaded a home on Erie’s east side.

According to Erie police, at around 9:45 p.m. Friday, a group of people invaded a home in the 900 block on East 11th Street.

“When they were first banging on the doors, I didn’t know who it was,” said Kaltuma Hassan, who lives at the home. “I was just figuring it was my brothers and then my parents were screaming, ‘who is it?’

Police said two armed men entered the home, dragged Hassan outside and started beating her.

“One of the boys was pointing a gun at me so I’m like, ‘Ok, he’s gonna shoot me.’ And I didn’t know and then the other boy kicked me and he had steel boots on and he just kicked me and I just blacked out,” she said.

Erie police officer Nick Bernatowicz was on the scene within a minute. He found a white van crashed into the home, and more than dozen people outside, several were armed with guns. When Bernatowicz drew his gun, police said he saw several people run behind the van. Bernatowicz heard a gun shot and took cover. As Bernatowicz waited for backup, the suspects took off in the van down East 11th Street.

“They thought there was like a road down there, so they came and stopped in the middle of the street and that’s when the cops came after them,” said Marianne Hassan, who also lives in the home.

The suspects apparently put the van in reverse, trying to run the officer over, and then took off running. Police said Bernatowicz jumped in the van and put it in park. Police arrested five men and one woman. The suspects are from Buffalo, New York, but are native to Kenya. Police believe the home invasion stems from a prior dispute.

“A lot of Africans, they have drama and drama always go on,” said Kaltuma. “So they think the only way to settle it, is to kill somebody or fight somebody.”  [Is this their contribution to cultural diversity?—ed]

The Hassan family said without the quick response from police, they wouldn’t be alive to tell their story. [Thanks to the police no one was killed.—ed]

“I was pretty surprised and amazed that they came quickly,” said Maryanne. “Because, If they didn’t come, they would still be here shooting. Like, they we’re trying to kill all of us.” The suspects, Yassin Warsame, 18; Mohammed Salad Osman, 19; Hawa Hassan, 18; Muia Jumle, 19; Adbi Ibrihim, 19; and David Toe, 24, are charged with burglary, terroristic threats, criminal trespass, simple assault, unlawful restraint and disorderly conduct. Border patrol was called in to confirm the suspects’ identities. Police said they could be deported back to Kenya.

The US receives a large number of Somali “refugees” from Kenya (the UN picks them for us!) and there is no way Kenya is going to take these trouble-makers back—-they are our problem now!   We processed 654 “refugees” through Kenya in only the first three months of this fiscal year (Oct. 1, 2014-Dec. 31, 2014), however, keep in mind we do not take “Kenyan” refugees unless their name is Obama (as in Aunt Zeituni and Uncle Omar).

See another story on the Erie home invasion, here, at Go Erie.

Another beheading threat (this time, just a threat) in Oklahoma involves Kenyan immigrant

Or at least he says he is Kenyan.  We get a lot of “refugees” and other legal immigrants who pass through Kenya, but are not really Kenyans.  We don’t know how this one—Jacob Mugambi Muriithi—got here, but thought this needed to be posted.

3,972 supposed refugees came to us through Kenya this fiscal year alone.  Kenyans themselves are not considered eligible for refugee resettlement or asylum because their country is relatively stable (except of course if you are the Aunt and Uncle of President Obama!).  Through what legal program did this Muslim get here?

From The Oklahoman (hat tip: Julia):

In a bizarre coincidence, a fired Oklahoma City nursing home employee was arrested Friday after a co-worker reported he threatened to cut her head off.

Jacob Mugambi Muriithi

Jacob Mugambi Muriithi, 30, is being held in the Oklahoma County jail on a terrorism complaint. His bail is set at $1 million.

“We take these threats very seriously,” Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater said.

The arrest came on the same day police in Moore revealed fired Vaughan Foods worker Alton Alexander Nolen beheaded a co-worker after he was fired Thursday. Nolen is a Muslim convert.

Muriithi was identified as a native of Kenya who is living in Oklahoma City. He worked at Bellevue Nursing Home in northwest Oklahoma City, police reported.

The co-worker reported Muriithi threatened her while they were both working at the nursing home Sept. 19, a police detective wrote in an arrest warrant affidavit.

The woman was not identified.

She said Muriithi identified himself as a Muslim and said he “represented ISIS and that ISIS kills Christians,” the detective told a judge in the affidavit. The two had not worked together before.

If anyone finds out more about Muriithi’s immigration status, let us know!

By the way, we do take a lot of refugees with mental health issues as we have documented in our “health issues category.”
