Catholic Charities raking in government bucks in Louisville, KY

When I saw this article entitled, ‘Sponsor a refugee family for holiday giving,’ I thought to myself, that’s nice they are asking Catholics to give Christmas (oops! “holiday”) gifts to refugees by “sponsoring” a family. Of course, I immediately thought why don’t they ask churches, groups and individuals to sponsor a family for a year!

Then half way down the gushy piece comes this section of the article filled with the usual misinformation about who really is paying for refugees—YOU!

And, get this! Catholic Charities of Louisville has an indoctrination program that is going national in 2014—You will likely be paying them through federal grants to “educate” your kids too!

From the Examiner.com (emphasis mine):

So who brings these refugees to the United States and who financially supports them? Migration and Refugee Services (MRS) is one of the local affiliates of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, under newly-elected president Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, which assists in the resettlement process. As a branch of Catholic Charities, MRS has resettled approximately one-third of all refugees entering the United States, totaling over 10,000 refugees since 1975. [They are surely missing some zeros because the US has now taken in well over a million refugees—ed] Out of the 120 organizations run by Catholic Charities, MRS now ranks five. Funding of the program comes primarily from the federal government and the Archdiocese of Louisville. [Very little from private funding as you will see below —ed] From October 2012 thru September 2013, MRS has resettled over 1000 refugees in Louisville neighborhoods coming from over 20 countries. The top five nationalities are Burmese, Somalia, Iraq, Bhutan and Cuba.

MRS assists with various programs to help refugees reach the goal of self-sufficiency within six months. In addition to providing basic needs of food, clothing, shelter, furnishings and transportation, all refugees attend English classes and cultural orientation programs, receive medical services, and are assisted with job search and placement. According to Chris Clements, Community Resource Developer, “87% percent of refugees have reached self-sufficiency status within a six-month period since October 2013.” [No way! They are not self-sufficient if they get subsidized housing and food stamps, and there is no way 87% are not on one or both of those welfare programs—ed] Many refugees who had professional jobs in their own countries begin with entry-level jobs here and work their way up. “They are happy to be here and willing to work,” noted Clements. Catholic Charities have assisted by hiring some refugees. “About 40% are former refugees. [Of course that helps CC’s employment statistics!—ed] They know what it’s like and can identify with them.” Many have opened stores and restaurants, adding to the diversity and ethnic possibilities within the community [With micro-loans funded by the feds with your money!—ed] Louisville is a welcoming place for refugees by offering a medium-size city, affordable cost of living, lower crime rate, better employment opportunities, English programs in public schools, and bus transportation.

Propaganda campaign coming to your school next year!

To heighten awareness about refugees and transitions they encounter, Catholic Charities of Louisville and local educators developed a program that will be introduced on a national level for other agencies in Washington, DC in July 2014. This curriculum guide, Seeking Refuge: Forced to Flee, takes participants into a simulated refugee camp by navigating thru a series of stations, encountering communication, medical and legal barriers. The program was initiated in various schools and parishes for the past 10 years, and its success has multiplied each year.

In building awareness about the plight of refugees, word will hopefully spread that these families arrive here with only a few of their personal belongings….

So, every child will be guilt-tripped into never again questioning why we are doing this—importing third world poverty into America while we have our own poor and needy people.

Have a look at Catholic Charities of Louisville’s latest Form 990.

They took in $13,179,017. (page 9)

They received $11,349,920 from GOVERNMENT GRANTS. 86% of their funding comes from TAXPAYERS!

$773,162 came from related organizations (probably the US Conference of Catholic Bishops as pass-through from the federal government too!).

That leaves $1,055,935 from all other contributions. Only 8% of their funding is from presumably private sources.

They couldn’t exist without your money.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for the ACLU to raise a question of the separation of church and state because CC and the ACLU are on the same political team.

Haitians coming to US by sea, government warns of dangers

We report all the time about the Mediterranean boat people trying to reach Europe from Africa (many dying in the process), or the many boats full of mostly Muslim migrants trying to reach Australia, but this is the first time I’ve become aware of Haitians in large numbers employing people smugglers to get to the US.

The US Coast Guard has prepared a Public Service Announcement in hopes of halting the practice.

From NBC News (hat tip: pungentpeppers):

MIAMI – Following dozens of known drowning deaths at sea this year, the U.S. Coast Guard and Haitian-American community activists unveiled a public service campaign Thursday urging Haitians to avoid immigrant smugglers. They’re also asking Haitian family members in the United States to refrain from financing the smuggling operations, because they are so dangerous.

“Do not go to the sea. Do not put yours lives in the hands of these ruthless smugglers,” said Captain Mark Fedor, Chief of Law Enforcement for the Seventh Coast Guard District in Miami.

In the last year, U.S. officials have seen a dramatic rise in the number of Haitians being smuggled in small, often-overcrowded boats across the 80-mile-wide Mona Passage to Puerto Rico, a U.S. commonwealth.

So far this year, the Coast Guard and other law enforcement officials have apprehended 2,265 Haitians crossing the Mona Passage. That compares to just 188 Haitians caught there in the previous eight years.

It is not clear what is done with those “rescued.” Are they returned to Haiti? Or do they get taken care of under a program called the Cuban Haitian Entrant Program where at least 20,000 Cubans and Haitians become eligible for taxpayer support every year in a program pretty much run by federal contractors—the US Conference of Catholic Bishops and Church World Service—but paid for by you.

We haven’t written much about Haiti lately, but I see we have 52 previous posts on the subject, largely related to the temporary protected status they have available to them.

House of Representatives holds hearing on flood in asylum claims at US border

Brenda Walker at Limits to Growth alerted us to a hearing yesterday in the House Judiciary Committee about the latest scammers at the border saying they have a “credible fear of persecution” in Mexico and want to make an asylum claim. I couldn’t listen in, but Walker did.

Here is Walker:

On Thursday morning, the House Judiciary Committee took up the subject of Asylum Abuse: Is it Overwhelming our Borders?

For Democrats and other friends of victimhood, providing an abundant welcome for the hard-luck cases of the planet is job #1. The Dems consider a cushy reception to be far more important than public safety from hostile characters, ranging from Mexicans claiming a “credible fear” (who may be cartel members) to head-choppy jihadists from around the Muslim world. The point is that more people are gaming the system because they are often successful, and there is no penalty for attempting asylum fraud.

Then this (below) about Chairman Goodlatte (a Boehner*** buddy or he wouldn’t be a committee chairman!) who we all know is looking for a way to get the legalization of the lawbreakers moving in his committee.

(Walker) They aren’t breaking in so they can vote in our elections!

Of course, any “legal status” that allows the aliens to get work permits and be free of worry about deportation is all the invaders care about. They didn’t break into the United States so they could vote in our elections.

You have to listen carefully when lawyers speak. Goodlatte likes to say he objects to a “special pathway” to citizenship for foreign lawbreakers, but legalization is negotiable.

Israel’s parliament passes new law to detain migrants; Amnesty fumes

Some countries, like Israel, want to save themselves and others, like Sweden, have a death wish. People with a brain understand that no country can long survive an invasion of third world migrants, and Israeli leaders understand that better than most.

So, this news is no surprise to us. Israelis believe that most of the migrants who have streamed into the country illegally in recent years are economic migrants and detention until they are all sorted out only makes sense.

Of course all over the world the amnesty lobbyists are demanding that ‘asylum seekers’ be free to move around and work in the country they have entered without permission.

From the Los Angeles Times:

JERUSALEM — In a controversial move decried by human rights organizations, Israel’s parliament passed a bill allowing migrants to be jailed without trial for a year.

Under the law finalized early Tuesday after a heated late-night debate, Israeli authorities will be able to jail new migrants for a year if they slip over the border illegally, and detain others already in Israel in a new holding facility indefinitely.

The law was intended to apply almost exclusively to African migrants who cross the border in uncontrolled stretches of open desert. In the past, most have come in from Egypt.

It replaces a previous law, ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court, that allowed migrants to be jailed for three years. The court ruled in September that the law violated human rights. The new law attempted to address the court’s concerns by lowering the detention time.

The illegal aliens will be allowed out in the daytime, but must return at night (so they aren’t in a prison!):

The new “open” facility will hold about 3,000 detainees and provide services to discourage them from working. Technically, they will be free to come and go during daytime but must return to the remotely located center by night.

The government refers to the migrants as “infiltrators” because they enter the country without passing through controlled border crossings. Many of the migrants are asylum seekers, but very few are granted asylum out of thousands of requests reviewed annually by a Refugee Status Determination committee.

A new border fence is now slowing the flow in from Egypt, but get this:

…an estimated 50,000 asylum seekers and undocumented migrants from African countries live in Israel.

Come to think of it, there is something kind of freeing when one is always labeled the ‘bad guy’ as Israel is. In fact, poor Swedes are trapped in a ‘good people’ image they likely won’t break out of before it’s too late to save their unique race/culture.

Sweden: Will Syrians be the final straw?

A few months back, benevolent Sweden (we are the world’s good people!) opened its doors to any Syrian refugees who could make it to their borders, but it now seems that they may have an extreme case of refugee overload and there is consequently a lot of whining going on.

Soedertaelje Mayor Boel Godner said system was breaking a year ago. Imagine what it is today!

Here is the news at the Global Post (Sweden struggles with the surge). Emphasis is mine:

Sweden, as the only country to give Syrian refugees automatic residence, has struggled to house them and faces warnings of a coming surge in arrivals.

Josef Ariss and his mother Reina fled Aleppo in northern Syria three months ago when their family’s clothing factory was flattened by shelling.

Although relieved to escape the violence, he is far from happy with the situation in Sweden — living in cramped conditions with relatives, like many of his countrymen.

“We’re staying at my aunt’s house — eight people in 90 square metres (900 square feet),” the soft-spoken 20-year-old told AFP.

Speaking at a crowded Syrian cultural centre in the outskirts of Stockholm as new arrivals streamed out of a Swedish language class, he added: “If you need help from the Migration Board to find a place they throw you in the north where it’s far below freezing. We can’t live there.”

14,000 Syrians have arrived in Sweden this year!

“We came here with big hopes of starting over — of having our own place to stay,” she said.

Sweden has seen a sharp increase in Syrian refugees — about 8,000 have arrived since it threw the doors open in September, bringing the total number this year to more than 14,000 — of a total of 50,000 refugees. [The US takes an average of 70,000 refugees* a year, so you can see that Sweden cannot survive this number—ed]

The Migration Board offers everyone temporary accommodation in a growing network of refugee centres scattered around the country.

About 8,000 refugees with residence permits live in reception centres, currently having to wait an average of six months for permanent accommodation, according to migration authorities.

The queue is expected to double next year with up to 69,000 more refugees, the highest level since the break-up of Yugoslavia in the early 1990s.

Mayor would like to say NO! Unemployment rate at 14%!!!

In Soedertaelje, the situation has already passed crisis proportions, according to Social Democratic mayor Boel Godner.

“If we had the power to check we would say ‘no, it’s too crowded here’,” she said. “Children have it tough at school… learning Swedish when everyone around them speaks the same (foreign) language.”

“And it’s hard to get jobs, which creates a lot of poverty and frustration. Many refugees would be better off if the whole country helped out — there are districts that have not accepted a single refugee.”

Let the whining begin! The rest of the article focuses on finger-pointing. Not all communities in Sweden are doing their fair share, not all countries in Europe are doing their fair share, and it’s all the fault of the “anti-immigrants” in the Sweden Democrats Party who want no more immigration to Sweden (say what?).

Bottomline, it appears, is that the Swedish humanitarians (with a death wish) would have the country crash economically and socially as they pat themselves on the back for being known as the world’s good people.
