Breitbart: Federally-funded refugee resettlement contractor, HIAS, organized NY rally against Trump

And, a featured speaker was Congressman Keith Ellison, Congress’ first Muslim representative.
For longtime readers of RRW, this news is not new—that federally funded resettlement contractors organize political rallies and lobby for causes which coincidentally help their bottomlines!
We reported often during the Gang of Eight amnesty fight that HIAS (Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society) was regularly on the Hill pushing for legalization of illegal aliens.  In the bill HIAS and the other refugee contractors would gain more “clients”—and more funding!—to help the newly amnestied get their government services if it had become law.

Ellison at HIAS rally: Trump Admin. is like the Third Reich. I’m in the minority I believe, but I am actually rooting for Ellison to be picked DNC chair because the Democrat Party will then continue to lose middle America.

There is a lot Donald Trump could do to rein in those working against him (without all the fanfare!) and one thing is to be sure that any contractors doing political organizing can prove there is a firewall between their federal funding and overt political organizing against the hand that feeds them (you)!
See our accounting of the HIAS budget here.  If Trump is successful, maybe some of their highly paid staffers will have to take a pay cut!
Here is Aaron Klein at Breitbart.  I am delighted to see that bigger media outlets are researching how much of your money is going to organizations working against your interests! (We are waiting! Where are you Washington Post? New York Times?)

TEL AVIV – A Jewish group that organized a “Jewish Rally for Refugees” in New York on Sunday was massively funded by the federal government under the Obama administration to resettle refugees.

In attendance at the rally was Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN), who used the platform to compare the Trump administration to the Third Reich.

[….]

The New York rally was organized by the nonprofit HIAS, which describes itself as standing “for a world in which refugees find welcome, safety, and freedom.”

Unmentioned in much of the news media coverage about the rally is that HIAS has taken in large sums of federal grants to help resettle refugees.

[….]

The Jerusalem Post described the organization as a “global Jewish nonprofit organization that works to protect refugees.”

Local Fox 5 simply labeled HIAS as “the global Jewish nonprofit.”

HIAS is more than that, as this reporter previously documented.

HIAS specializes in refugee resettlement and in 2015 received 65.3 percent of its annual $25 million budget from government grants.

Annual grants include funds from the State Department and the Office of Refugee Resettlement in the Department of Health and Human Services. Another major donor is the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

In 2015, the State Department provided $17,663,704 and the Department of Health and Human Services gave another $2,765,195.

So why did they drop the word “Hebrew?”

(No matter what their official line is, I’ll bet a buck that many Muslim refugees refused to be resettled by a “Hebrew” organization!)
Klein continues…

HIAS was an acronym that previously stood for the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society and it originally worked to resettle Jewish emigrants from Russia. It dropped the full title and only goes by the acronym now. Mark Hetfield, HIAS president and CEO,told the Washington Jewish Week in December 2014 the word “Hebrew” was exclusionary and outdated, comparing it with the use of the word “colored” to refer to African Americans.

UNHCR helping Somalis return home! And, so should we!

Somalis going home
Somalis line up to return to Mogadishu from Kenyan refugee camp, yet we are still bringing them to the US from the same camp! Why? http://www.unmultimedia.org/radio/english/2015/08/somali-refugees-helped-to-return-home/#.VceRpflViko

So why are we still hauling them into the US by the thousands every year?

From Somaliaweyn Media Center (hat tip: Joanne)

(UNHCR) – More than 100 Somali refugees from Kenya flew into the Somali capital Mogadishu on Wednesday, marking a new chapter in the voluntary return process.

Earlier in the day, two planes, carrying 116 people, took off from Dadaab camp in Northeastern Kenya. Dadaab is the largest refugee settlement in the world and hosts about 333,000 Somali refugees.

The voluntary returns came after the Tripartite Commission formed by UNHCR (UN High Commissioner for Refugees) and the Governments of Kenya and Somalia, agreed to step up support for voluntary repatriations of Somali refugees.

The Commission met on 29 July and decided to scale up assistance to Somali refugees in Kenya wishing to return home and agreed on a strategy that envisaged the voluntary repatriation of some 425,000 Somali refugees over a five-year period. Beside Dadaab, other Somali refugees live in Kakuma refugee camp and in major towns and cities across the country.

Despite continuing security challenges, refugees have started to return to Somalia. Between December 2014 and early August, 2015, some 2,969 Somali refugees returned to the districts of Luuq, Baidoa and Kismayo, with UNHCR support as part of a pilot phase which has now ended.

Still more have returned spontaneously without receiving assistance from UNHCR…

I guess these are the brave and resourceful Somalis who want to help make their country a better place to live!
Look at the data!  We have admitted 7,044 Somalis to the US just this fiscal year!  Wouldn’t it make more sense for the UN to educate them in Dadaab and send them HOME to rebuild Somalia rather than drop them off as meatpacking cheap (slave) labor in the American Midwest or reliable voters to support the likes of Rep. Keith Ellison.
Heck, we even have a Minnesota woman running to be President of Somalia!

Is it time for that repatriation fund?

How about a bill in Congress that would fund the return of Somalis to Somalia (throwing in a little start up money) and let them go home!
And, at the same time, stop new ones from coming in!
That is something every thinking person could get behind!  Gee, if Rep Ellison truly cared about the Somalis and rebuilding their homeland he should introduce this bill!  This might even be a bill that could reach across the aisle!

NYT: Minnesota judge rejects plea to release three Somalis charged in terrorism case (for now)

But, says he may re-think his decision and release them pre-trial later.
People like Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison think they could be deradicalized.

Minnesota Rep. Keith Ellison: Integrate them back into their families and make sure they have responsible faith leaders.

Call me heartless, but I don’t think we should be spending all this time and taxpayer money rounding those up who want to leave the country to join their terrorist brethren.  Just let them go and revoke their passports.  Maybe even consider rounding up a bunch and offering free flights back to Islamic hellholes.
Obviously these resettled refugees or their children don’t appreciate what US taxpayers did for them in the first place.
Here is the New York Times:

MINNEAPOLIS — A federal judge here on Wednesday ordered three young men accused of plotting to travel to Syria to fight for the Islamic State kept in detention while awaiting trial, at least for now. That decision came after the defense argued that entrusting the men immediately to their families and Somali-American leaders was the best way to insulate them from radical Islam.

But United States District Judge Michael J. Davis, in a shift from what other federal judges have done in similar cases involving young people accused of being Islamic State recruits, signaled a willingness to revisit his decision in the coming months.

[….]

The issue of how to deradicalize young people attracted to the Islamic State, also known as ISIS, has become increasingly important here and in many other communities where recruitment by militant Islamic groups, often done online, has led to arrests.

Minneapolis, with its large Somali immigrant community, has been a recruitment hotbed for years. More than 20 people in Minnesota have faced federal charges related to Al Shabaab, an African terror group, with at least 10 more cases related to ISIS. Defendants have usually been detained while awaiting trial, as prosecutors have argued that they remain flight risks and threats to the community.

There is a lot more, continue reading here.
If you are new to this news—Somali Islamic radicalization in Minnesota—you might want to go back to our first posts on the topic in 2008 (this has been going on for a long time with no sign of “deradicalization” happening).  As for me, I am so sick of this story, about ‘Somali youths,’ that I’m only mentioning it here to keep our archives fresh.
Check out this post if you have time, I went to a Senate Homeland Security hearing back in March of 2009 and was shocked at the naivete of US Senators on the topic.

There is moaning in Minnesota over possible loss of $$$ for refugee contractors

What took them so long, many other resettlement contractors around the country have already set up their chorus of howls over the threatened loss of federal money should Congress not give Obama the BILLIONS he wants for the “chiiildruun.”

As we have said repeatedly:  not enough money, then don’t bring so many new refugees into America!

(Or, LOL! give up some of your big salaries to the poor refugees, 63% of Minnesota’s Somalis live below poverty line!).

Editors note: Before you proceed to read the latest (below), including from the Lutherans, see our post of last September when we reported that the CEO of Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota was pulling down an astounding $441,767 in salary and benefits before his retirement.

Here from the Minneapolis Star Tribune (aka Red Star), thanks to reader Jay, is the Minnesota caterwauling (emphasis is mine):

Rep. Keith Ellison: “…favors funneling resources toward the minors coming up from Central America, but said there is enough money to go around.”

Minnesota refugee resettlement organizations are increasingly panicked that the surge of unaccompanied kids from Central America streaming across the border will siphon federal dollars away from the 4,000 refugees and asylum-seekers that arrive on the state’s doorstep every year.

Federal officials are warning that unless Congress approves President Obama’s $3.7 billion funding request before the August congressional recess, $94 million that had been devoted mostly to refugees instead will be diverted to the escalating crisis on the border.

[….]

Because Minnesota is one of the top resettlement states for refugees from Somalia, Bhutan, Burma, Iraq and other troubled countries, organizations across the state that help new arrivals assimilate, get jobs and learn English say a shortage of funds could jeopardize their work.

“Of course this is scary to us. We’re not in the business of pitting refugees against minors because it’s a terrifying situation for both groups,” said Kim Dettmer, director of refugees services at Lutheran Social Service. “Obviously these minors need help and obviously the refugees need help, as well. In my ideal world, we would have enough money to serve refugees and the children crossing the border would be safe and receive humane treatment.”

Did you know that one of the driving forces for resettlement in your state is the RELIGIOUS resettlement contractors, like these Lutherans, acting as head-hunters for big businesses looking for cheap labor?  Is this an appropriate role for them and their bosses at the US State Department?  I wonder does Jennie-O send them a little spare change?  And, of course, this is why Grover Norquist and his Republican pals are on the same side as Keith Ellison.

Her organization also helps refugees find work — an aspect of the program that is booming in Minnesota, given the state’s low unemployment rate. Lutheran Social Service has an office in St. Cloud that places refugees at Hormel’s Jennie-O plant and other factories and hotels for service work.

Public-private partnership—what a joke!

As we have demonstrated repeatedly, the contractors are receiving over 90% of their funding from the feds.  And, get this!  Ms. King of the politically hard Left MN Council of Churches talks about volunteer time.  Well the contractors log volunteer hours and are then paid CASH from the federal treasury for those hours on top of all the other largesse they receive!

“This program is a public-private partnership and I think Minnesota is very good at the private part of it, leveraging volunteer time and the other work,” said Rachele King, director of refugee services at the Minnesota Council of Churches. “It’s the public part, they’re not holding up their end of the bargain.”

Minnesota Council of Churches is also a refugee resettlement contractor/community organizer.  Out of time, research on their $$$ (your tax dollars) will have to wait for another day.

US immigrants send billions of dollars out of the country

They are officially called remittances and have made the news lately, here, because American banks are increasingly refusing to send money to Somalia fearing it will end up in the hands of terrorists.

Rep. Keith Ellison (right), with Somali president, wants to keep the “hawalas” hopping and the money flowing. http://www.twincities.com/ci_22619932/minnesota-rep-keith-ellison-arrives-mogadishu

The Pew Research Center earlier this year calculated that approximately $123,273,000,000 is sent out of the US every year.  Hat tip:  Jim.

The first five receiving countries in descending order are:  Mexico, China, India, Philippines, and Nigeria.   By the way, number 9 is El Salvador.

We’ve written about El Salvador previously in relation to remittances because the Salvadorans’ legal right to be in the US and work is continually renewed in the Temporary Protected Status program.  Even George Bush renewed their status here (again and again) and said we needed to continue to prop up the economy back home through remittances.

One of the major arguments of the open borders crowd is that immigrants work and fuel our economy, or is it the economy back home that they are fueling?

Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota has been the leader in charge of making sure money flows to Somalia, here.  It is estimated that $120 million goes to Somalia from the US every year, but note that Pew has no idea of what the real number is.

Is this why the Somalis of Minnesota are so poor?

See all of our earlier posts on remittances, here.
