UNHCR being blamed for continued refugee crisis in South Africa

Rains are now making South African refugee camps into a living hell.   We’ve written on many previous occasions about deadly riots in the ‘Rainbow Nation’ last spring that resulted in the mostly illegal aliens being driven into camps for their protection.

Now the government, which had sent its Red Ants Security Service to dismantle the camps, wants the refugees to go back to their towns and reintegrate.   Of course they want to be resettled somewhere in the West.  The stalemate is on-going, and now it is being blamed on the UN which seems to be practicing ‘tough love’ for poor people.

Things got worse for the refugees when the camp was dismantled and all the tents provided by the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) were removed by the Red Ants in October.

Since then, the refugees have been living in makeshift shelters made of blankets and cardboard and relying on food donations for survival after rejecting the option of being reintegrated.

Many foreigners at the shelter said they had given up on getting help and blamed the UNHCR for the situation they now find themselves in, saying the organisation had failed to fulfil its mandate of protecting refugees.

They have asked to be resettled in other countries, but the UNHCR has maintained that resettlement is not an option as it is a lengthy process that could probably take two years to complete for each individual.

According to this report the UN has washed its hands of the situation.

However, both the council and the UNHCR are on record as having said there was nothing else they could do to help those who have refused to be reintegrated into their former communities.

Here is what I would like to know.  Instead of hauling refugees to the US at great expense and dumping them in unsuspecting cities, why aren’t the volags over in South Africa, on the ground, helping people?  Where are all the do-gooder organizations, the ones that advocate open borders?  Where is Church World Service for instance?  Where are the Alinsky (we love everyone) radicals?  Why aren’t they pressuring the UN to do its job.   And, in addition to physically helping them, they should be insisting the South African government help too.    Afterall, it was the open borders policy of South Africa that created the problem in the first place.

Gheesh, since when is it a conservative’s job to tell these people to get some heart!

Alinskyism (Day 1)

Have you seen those calendars that were used to make fun of President Bush?  Well I would like to see one for making fun of radicals in the mould of Saul Alinsky (you know Obama’s inspiration).  Here is a quote that is only funny because “radicals” are peace-loving people, right?   They love all people too, right?   From “Reveille for Radicals”:

A complacent society tolerantly views the turbulent atmospheric noise of liberal minds with the old childhood slogan of “Sticks and stones may breakmy bones, but names will never hurt me.”  Let the liberal turn to the course of action, the course of all radicals, and the amused look vanishes from the face of society as it snarls, “That’s radical!”  Society has good reason to fear the radical.  Every shaking advance of mankind toward equality and justice has come from the radical.  He hits, he hurts, he is dangerous.  Conservative interests know that while liberals are most adept at breaking their own necks with their tongues, radicals are adept at breaking the necks of conservatives.

The Cult of Obama and bye-bye WaPo

This is off topic, but what the heck, the beauty of writing a blog is that one has no boss!  We have a good website in Maryland called the Baltimore Reporter and this story (cross-posted from Flopping Aces) attracted my attention today.  It includes mention of how the Washington Post admitted on November 8th that they had completely gone overboard in their adoration for The One.  No kidding!

After subscribing to the WaPo for 28 years, we are this week cancelling our subscription.  They can write what they want, but we don’t have to pay for it.  The Post is in deep financial doo-doo so I hope this (the adoration of Obama) will be the final straw for them.  Bye-bye WaPo!

P.S.  If you hadn’t seen it already elsewhere see Obama’s creepy cult of personality  discussion at Newsweek.  The Washington Post Company owns Newsweek too, so they all knew, in advance!

Leprosy on the rise in the US

Reader Ciccio sent us this informative report from Science Daily about Leprosy on the rise in the US immigrant population.  One of the  major problems is that doctors are so unfamiliar with the disease that it often goes untreated.   Apparently how the disease is transmitted is still a mystery.

Because many of the population in the U.S. affected by leprosy are immigrants in poor communities who primarily seek treatment in free clinics or emergency rooms, the NHDP says that many of those physicians are not familiar with the disease to make an accurate diagnosis. Therefore, many physicians mistake the skin lesions of leprosy for a fungus or ringworm and treat it with a topical cream. And, because leprosy is a slow-progressing disease, it can take months, if not longer, before the doctor or the patient realizes that the treatment isn’t working – giving the disease enough time to start destroying the nervous system.

Leprosy is most prevalent in the tropics and third world countries where there are poor living conditions and limited access to medical care. Due to changes in immigrant relocation, leprosy is now being diagnosed throughout the U.S.

“Changes in immigrant relocation” mentioned here is one of the on-going points we make at RRW.  During the Clinton Administration it became the policy of the federal government to spread new refugees to cities and towns large and small throughout the US.  These cities, unfamiliar with immigrants, then struggle to figure out what to do with health issues, schools, housing, etc. causing tensions to build and community coherence to be destroyed.

Oh, here I am, like a broken record,  back to the whole business of change and community destabilization and Alinsky and Obama!

Wait, I just noticed there is a sidebar article at Science Daily whose title looks hopeful.  The rise of TB can cause Leprosy to fade from the scene.   Since TB is also on the rise in the US immigrant population we may soon learn if this is true.   Sit back and watch the battle of the killer diseases.
