Oklahoma Catholic Charities is rolling in money

How is it that Catholic Charities is leaving refugees in the lurch in many cities, crying that they need more federal funding, when they have money for a whole new “campus” for their assorted businesses in places like Oklahoma (in the recession, no less), here?

And, wasn’t it an opening of a new Catholic center in Pittsburgh that brought out the refugee demonstrators, here?

Maybe because Catholic Charities got $85,557,665 from the taxpayers they have loads of money to construct buildings; they don’t need to bother their parishioners for the needs of the struggling refugees they resettle (not to mention American poor people).  I get it, patting themselves on the back, they acquire the money for poor people from the government and use their privately-donated funds for construction projects.

But, then again, building edifices has always been something the Catholic Church is famous for.

I just remembered something!  I saw an article a few weeks ago!  It seems that Catholics in Oklahoma City are questioning the close ties the church there has developed with Saul Alinsky’s old outfit, and Obama’s earlier employer, the Industrial Areas Foundation, here.  Obviously some Catholics are catching on!

Knoxville, TN: Jihadist or Jokester?

I’m headed out shortly to go to Washington and the Code Red Rally, but wanted to get this up quickly.  There is a lot I could say about it, but one question right off the top of my head is, what’s up with Tennessee and Muslim immigrants?  Has the word gone out to ‘go to Tennessee young man?’   Hat tip: Jerry Gordon (Update: Gordon’s post here).

Is a Northwest Knoxville convenience store operator a jihad jokester or a terrorist-in-waiting?

That was the question U.S. Magistrate Judge Bruce Guyton faced Monday as federal prosecutors Jeff Theodore and Will Mackie pushed for the detention pending trial of Hazam Ali Ahmed.

The 35-year-old Ahmed was charged with being a felon in possession of firearms after authorities last week found two guns inside the Central Convenience Store on Keith Avenue that he operated.

However, testimony at Monday’s hearing shows Ahmed has been on the radar screen of the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force since at least January 2006.

FBI Agent Mark D. Murphy testified that an informant clandestinely recorded chats with Ahmed in early 2006 during which Ahmed allegedly tried to recruit the informant into the terrorist network al-Qaeda.

Note to FBI:  If you are looking for more to get this guy on, check his food stamp transactions.  These Muslim convenience stores are notorious for buying food stamps from people in need of cash for 50 cents on the dollar and then being reimbursed by the taxpayer for the full dollar.  Use our search function for key words ‘food stamp scams.’   The fact that he owns nothing in the US and has a family in Yemen tells me he is likely sending those funds back ‘home.’

Albany: Iraqi refugee charged with attempted rape

Here is the story from the Times Union:

An Iraqi refugee charged with trying to rape a woman behind the Capital Repertory Theatre on North Pearl Street last month is being held in the Albany County jail on $60,000 bail.

Nehma Walid, 26, appeared today before Judge Thomas Breslin in Albany County Court after being indicted Friday on a charge of attempted first-degree rape, which carries a possible 15-year prison sentence.

Court papers allege Walid struck the 27-year-old woman in the face, forced her to the ground, tore her pants open and tried to rape her as she screamed for him to stop. The incident allegedly happened in a parking garage behind the theater, 111 N. Pearl St., about 3:30 a.m. Nov. 21.

The apparently unemployed Iraqi was sponsored by a church group.  I wonder which of the Top Ten Federal Contractors the Unitarians are affiliated with?

In a motion filed on her client’s behalf, Manley noted Walid came to America in May as a United Nations refugee. She said he has been sponsored by the First Unitarian Society congregation in Schenectady, several members of which were in court to support him Monday.

O.K. so attempted rapes happen all over the place by all sorts of men, but my interest in this was the location—Albany, NY.  We have written on many occasions about how Albany, a preferred resettlement community, is overloaded with refugees.  Check out earlier posts here and here, and see Judy’s post on the unemployment situation for Iraqi refugees in Albany here.  For fun, go to the unemployment map and watch New York turn deep purple.

Incidentally, in this post on Albany, I asked why we were bringing fighting aged young men to America when our young men and women of the same age are fighting for Iraq to be free!

Just an aside:  In benevolent Sweden mobs didn’t wait for the legal system and instead tried to run an alleged refugee attempted rapist out of town, here.

US Unemployment map is astounding

Judy received this link to a map entitled the Georgraphy of a Recession.  It depicts over time how unemployment has progressed since the Democrats took over Congress.  Click on it and watch large swaths of the country turn from sunny yellow, to red, to deep purple and finally to black (10% unemployment).   No wonder refugees don’t have work!

By the way, note the bright spot in Northern Virginia and Maryland—-federal workers.

Obama: Get tough on criminal aliens and maybe get Amnesty passed

I’m such a cynic.  Obama didn’t really say that, but that is the first thing I thought of when I saw this Wall Street Journal article by Miriam Jordan.   I should be applauding the administration for getting tough and not look for hidden motives.   But, you can bet they know that every time an immigrant commits murder, or rapes someone, or is convicted for a DUI, or invades a home, the chances for amnesty for illegal aliens passing the Congress diminishes.  So arrests have been stepped up in advance of the push that begins this week in Congress.

Immigration agents arrested nearly 300 foreign nationals with criminal records, most of them suspected illegal immigrants, in the largest such crackdown ever conducted by federal authorities.

The operation, carried out in California over three days and spearheaded by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, underscores the Obama administration’s increased focus on arresting and deporting foreigners who have criminal records rather than those just living and working in the U.S. illegally.

The statewide operation, which ended late Thursday, involved more than 400 agents of ICE, a division of the Department of Homeland Security. Among those arrested, more than 200 were previously convicted in the U.S. of rape, armed robbery and other serious crimes, but were at large.

ICE chief John Morton told a news conference Friday that the effort is a “direct reflection” of the new government priority designed “to remove from our streets criminals who don’t have the right to be here in the first place.”

O.K., so now what?  Are they shipped back across the border only to return again? The article doesn’t tell us what is going to happen with those recent arrested aliens.

But, sure enough at the end of the article Jordan confirms my suspicions about Obama’s motives.

The Obama administration hopes the tough enforcement will help it win support in Congress for a broader campaign to overhaul the U.S. immigration system next year. The White House would like to create a path to legal residency and citizenship for millions of illegal immigrants.

For a handy list of just who will be supporting Amnesty for illegal aliens visit this post from last August.   Note that five of the ten top federal refugee resettlement contractors support Amnesty (the others do to, they just didn’t attend the White House pep rally).  I don’t understand how “church” groups and others whose job it is to find scarce work for legal refugees can support increasing the competition for employment by supporting a massive overnight legalization for approximately 12 million immigrants who came illegally.
