Russians deal with pirates the old fashioned way…

….they shoot them.

From time to time I’ve  mentioned the Somali pirates on these pages and last week I meant to update you on the 11 Somali pirates who attacked a US military ship, were taken into custody and were indicted in Virginia.  If convicted they will spend the rest of their lives in a US prison at God knows what expense to the US taxpayer.

Contrast that to the story from Somalilandpress about how the Russian military responded to a pirate attack on a Russian ship.

BOSASSO (Somalilandpress) — A pirate spokesman, who wished to remain anonymous, contacted Somalilandpress today said at least ten of his men were executed by the Russian navy after the troopers stormed MV Moscow University.

“The Russians commandos stormed the ship before sunrise, starting a firefight with our men, onboard they injured three of them and one was killed,” he said.

He dismissed the Russian navy statement that the men were released because of “the absence of a legal base to carry out prosecution procedures against pirates”.

“The Russians never released the young men instead they shot them point-blank range then loaded their lifeless bodies back on the boat,” he added.

Would someone tell me why the US is always the bad guy and tell me why the political Left loves Russia?

Relief Web: EU still hasn’t resettled its promised 10,000 Iraqi refugees

Frankly, I don’t know how they can resettle any more immigrants as their socialist economic system continues to flounder, but nonetheless they are being pushed to do so by refugee advocates.

From a Relief Web announcement of a new report:

The November 2008 pledge to resettle up to 10 000 refugees from Iraq has not yet been met and it is not clear how and when this will happen. The question is how much more are the EU and its Member States prepared to do to address the continuing needs of Iraqi and other refugees in need of durable solutions.

I bet the average European citizen is asking what about our durable solution?

To see the full report, follow the link provided at Relief Web.

In contrast the US (rolling in dough with jobs galore!) has resettled 10,201 Iraqis in the first 7 months of this fiscal year alone.

Canada: more taxpayer money going to (hopefully!) stem Somali violence

I’ve reported previously in our Canada category about how many Somali ‘youths’ in Alberta have been killed mostly by gang/drug related violence in the last couple of years.  The Somali ‘community’ demands that the government do something about it.  Now here comes a new touchy-feely “program” and more money.

From the CBC:

The Alberta government is spending $202,000 to keep Somali-Canadian youth in Edmonton away from gangs and drugs, Justice Minister Alison Redford announced Tuesday.

The money goes towards after-school programs and academic support in school.

Another $1.3 million will be spent on integrating immigrants and refugees into the community and $400,000 more towards a mentoring initiative to keep immigrant youth from drug trafficking and gang activity.

As is so often the case, the commenters to a story like this one are always right on the mark.  Here is commenter Scotcam:

They are killing each other – life is not sacred to them. I find it difficult to reconcile these Somali youth entering into these activities in Canada. They have a safe country to live in, food, clothing, shelter, education, health care, everything to ensure they can make a future for themselves. Their mentality seems to be one of violence, ingratitude etc.

One of the worst things that has happened to Canada was allowing so many Somalis into Canada without proper checks as to their suitability to be here. There are a few other groups as well that have not added anything positive to the country. Spending another million dollars on these people will do nothing to change their uncivilized behavior. Who pays again? The hardworking Canadian taxpayer who has a hard enough job looking after his own family!

One Somali leader quoted by the CBC suggested:

“So if they really want to do something for the community they have to look at the bigger picture, which is who is killing the 30 youth and why.”

Good point, and it’s backed by this suggestion from reader Freedom2025:

The money would be better spent hiring undercover cops to infiltrate the Somali gangs and gain intelligence towards arresting the leaders.

What a novel idea—-crack down on the criminals!

No private charity in Hitler’s Germany

Hitler controlled the churches through government funding.  I know it’s terribly unfashionable to write about Hitler and the NAZIs, but until I read Jonah Goldberg’s Liberal Fascism I didn’t know that fact about the National Socialist German Workers Party.

On many occasions on these pages I’ve told you about how much federal funding ‘religious’ groups receive from the taxpayer to resettle refugees and for other ‘charitable’ purposes including things like Head Start.  Indeed the following ‘church’ groups are deep into the federal dole:  US Conference of Catholic Bishops, World Relief, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services, Church World Service, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society, and Episcopal Migration Ministries.   Somehow it just seemed morally corrupt to me and now I see from Goldberg’s writing why it strikes me as so creepy and what it can lead to.

Like the engineers of that proverbial railway bridge, the Nazis worked relentlessly to replace the nuts and bolts [one piece at a time] of traditional Christianity with a new political religion…The German historian Gotz Aly explains how Hitler purchased popularity with lavish social programs and middle-class perks, often paid for with stolen Jewish wealth and high taxes on the rich. Hitler banned religious charity, crippling the churches’ role as a counterweight to the state.  Clergy were put on government salary, hence subjected to state authority.  “The parsons will be made to dig their own graves,” Hitler cackled.  “They will betray their God to us. They will betray anything for the sake of their miserable little jobs and incomes.”

Now consider House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s admonition to the Catholic Bishops over the weekend in support of open borders.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is telling Catholic bishops who want her to pass immigration reform that they must speak out in favor of the reform in their churches.

“The cardinals, the archbishops, the bishops come to me and say, ‘We want you to pass immigration reform,’” Pelosi, who is Catholic herself, said Thursday at the Catholic Community Conference.

“And I say, ‘But I want you to speak about it from the pulpit.’”

Do you think they will tell her ‘no’ in light of the fact that a large part of the USCCB’s (US Conference of Catholic Bishops) budget is paid for by the federal treasury.   Some readers may see her request as innocuous (if you are an open borders advocate), but what might government ask of them the next time in exchange for 30 pieces of silver?
