So what are the Socialists saying about David Miliband as the head of US refugee contractor?

That would be the International Rescue Committee (one of the top nine federal contractors ) which, with much fanfare, hired the former British Foreign Secretary and pal of Tony Blair, David Miliband, to head one of the largest resettlement contractors bringing refugee “workers” to your towns and cities.  We reported the news here on March 27th.

Pay attention Leftwingers!  If you think the “humanitarian” refugee program is all about good works—helping the poor and the downtrodden and all that—think again!

This story is nearly a month old, but since I’m not in the habit of reading  the World Socialist Web Site, it only just now arrived in my inbox thanks to reader Jim who spotted it.

Get a load of this!

Socialists say the IRC is a front for imperialists!  No kidding!

David Miliband, older brother of Labour Party leader Ed Miliband and former foreign secretary, is stepping down as the MP for South Shields and taking over the job as head of the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in New York.

The IRC website states, “The International Rescue Committee responds to the world’s worst humanitarian crises and helps people to survive and rebuild their lives. At work in over 40 countries and 22 US cities to restore safety, dignity and hope, the IRC leads the way from harm to home.”

In his new job, Miliband will be playing a “role in the political intrigues of British and US imperialism” says WSWS.

The IRC’s charity status is used as a front behind which Washington pursues its strategic interests throughout the globe. It boasts a board of governors that includes former United Nations secretary general Kofi Annan and no fewer than three former US secretaries of state—Henry Kissinger, Madeleine Albright and Condoleezza Rice. Sponsors come from among the wealthiest and most powerful of the financial elite, including Pepsi, Intel and McKenzie.  [Maybe we could find a meat packer to throw in the mix as well!—ed]

[Readers please note that Socialists/Lefties George Soros and Samantha Power have also been on the IRC board or have close ties to the organization, here.  Don’t try to put this in the Left-Right framework.  What might the common thread be—money, power, ruling class status? a disdain for the regular folks?  All of the above!–ed]

The IRC covers many of the geographical areas Miliband became involved with while at the Foreign Office in the UK—South Sudan, Afghanistan, Iraq, the Palestinian Authority, Sierra Leone and Sri Lanka—where both the US and Britain have extensive business and geo-strategic interests.

The majority of the IRCs funding comes from government sources (that would be you!).  Miliband will make a larger salary than the President of the United States.

At the Foreign Office, Miliband oversaw an organisation employing 14,000 staff across 270 diplomatic offices. The IRC may be smaller, but its international reach is greater. It operates in more than 40 countries and within the US itself, with offices in 22 American cities.

The IRC has an operating revenue of around $390 million. A look at where the majority of its funding comes from gives an indication of whose interests it serves.

According to a report on the IRC from Root Cause, a non-profit research and consulting firm, published in the Independent, only 14 percent of its funding came from private sources. Government grants and contracts, in contrast, accounted for 44 percent, foreign government grants and contracts 27 percent and 11 percent from UN agency grants and contracts. As its president, Miliband will receive £263,000 a year (US$400,000) plus £30,000 (US$52,000) from related groups—five times the salary he received as an MP.

By the way, the refugee resettlement industry in the US is a billion dollar a year industry—a billion that we know of!

IRC:  Independent?  Or, hidden political agenda?

There has been criticism over the appointment by those who believe it will risk the IRC being exposed as an instrument of Anglo-American foreign policy. The Observer reports Michiel Hofman of Médecins Sans Frontières saying it could make dealing with groups such as the Taliban more difficult. “Assertions by humanitarian organisations that they are fully independent, there are no hidden political agenda, slowly wither away,” he said.

David Miliband Limited!

When interviewed, he appears as a petulant schoolboy waiting for something bigger and better to come along. In the meantime, he has turned his hand to making considerable amounts of money. He has reportedly amassed almost £1 million through public speaking engagements such as the recent lecture he gave in Abu Dhabi, for which he received £25,000. He set up a company, The Office of David Miliband Limited, which right-wing commentator Toby Young has attacked as a tax-avoidance scheme through which his non-parliamentary earnings are channelled.

You know what scares me about the article (read it all!)—I find myself agreeing with much in this report at the World Socialist Web Site!  Ahhhhhhhh!

The photo is from this 2009 story in the Guardian which asserts ‘Hillary has a crush on Miliband.’

Minneapolis: Intimidation and harassment charged in DFL caucus meeting

Here we go again!  Call it politics African Muslim style!

Shariah creep: Men sat on left, women on right in Caucus earlier this month in America! Photo: Jeff Wheeler – Star Tribune

Read this surprisingly frank ‘investigative’ report from the Minneapolis Star Tribune on the latest city political caucus in a precinct now heavily Somali-populated.   We reported on an earlier caucus meeting here ten days ago. Is the Star Tribune beginning to see the light?    Hat tip: Randy

Star Tribune:

Hundreds of East African immigrants cheered and waved when Minneapolis City Council candidate Abdi Warsame took the microphone last week at a DFL caucus across from Riverside Plaza. Shoppers congratulated him as he walked through a Somali mall a few days later, past the bright scarves and carpets for sale.

On the surface, it is a happy tale: the city’s Somalis, denied democracy in their homeland, uniting to elect one of their own to the council.

But the Sixth Ward’s two other campaigns tell a darker story of political hardball, and have filed challenges to the caucuses after complaining to DFL leaders that Warsame’s supporters harassed and intimidated attendees.

Meeting broke for Muslim prayers and most discussion was in Somali—and you think there is no Shariah law creeping into America?

Caucuses described as chaotic

In interviews by the Star Tribune with the other candidates and seven other caucus attendees, a picture emerged of caucuses marked by chaos and confusion, with some men wearing Warsame buttons purposely or inadvertently intimidating and excluding those from other campaigns. Caucuses broke for Muslim prayer at 8 p.m. — which the DFL had approved ahead of time — prompting some participants who were not Muslim to leave because of the delays. Much of the business was carried out in Somali, which some caucusgoers did not understand.

Read it all!

This reminded me of an old post from way back on September 12th, 2008 where we published a detailed discussion written by a reader (Avi) who described the “quiet Jihad” going on in Minnesota.

Why so many Somalis in Minneapolis?  That is the title of one of our top posts almost every day since I first wrote it on January 21, 2011.  Thank the US State Department and three of the nine major federal contractors—Lutheran Social Services, Catholic Charities (USCCB) and World Relief.

You have one chance this year to tell the State Department what should happen with refugee resettlement in FY2014, please read this and do it!

Rubio gets pounded!

And, you landed some of the blows!

Run for the exits Marco! Run!

Update!  April 30th: Word goes out to the pro-amnesty crowd to get their comments in too!  (see report at VDARE)

Remember on last Wednesday we asked that you tell Senator Marco Rubio what you think of the “comprehensive immigration reform” bill otherwise known as the Gang of Eight Amnesty bill and ask him to strip out the refugee/asylum program changes the bill makes.   (We need Congressional hearings specifically on the Refugee Program!).

Yesterday Byron York writing at the Washington Examiner sums up the bad news for Rubio—most respondents are furious!  (emphasis mine)

Senator Marco Rubio, the leading Republican behind the Gang of Eight comprehensive immigration reform proposal, has often challenged those who criticize the bill to come up with ways to improve it.  And not just his fellow lawmakers; Rubio has opened a new page on his Senate website asking for help from the public. “Visit our website and submit your ideas to ‘Help Us Improve the Bill,’” says an announcement from Rubio’s office Friday. “Since the immigration legislation was introduced, Rubio has received over 1,100 suggestions for how to improve the bill.  Rubio encourages the public to continue reviewing the bill and sharing their ideas on ways to make the bill better when the time comes to amend the legislation.”

What is the hold-up?  Why aren’t the other one thousand or so posted?   York continues:

A visit to the “Help Us Improve the Bill” page shows the senator has posted just 147 out of the 1,100 suggestions he has so far received.  Rubio’s staff is reviewing each one — a wise move, given the emotions that the immigration issue can involve and the tendency of some people to say nasty things on the Internet.  But even after screening for foul language and general content, the suggestions Rubio has so far received are remarkably negative.  Actually, they are overwhelmingly, crushingly negative, criticizing a wide spectrum of issues included in the Gang of Eight bill.  The commenters Rubio has invited to speak really, really, really don’t like what he has done.

Read York’s whole juicy piece!

Check out the 100 plus comments posted so far and see that there is a good representation of ones telling Rubio to dump the Refugee/Asylum sections—thank you!

More comments on Rubio’s comments:

VDARE has more useful commentary on Rubio’s gambit.  Patrick Cleburne says it’s a dumb move and proves Rubio is dumb.  I had the same feeling about Rubio as I watched his dreadful pro-bill TV spot in which he looks like an earnest kid trying to suck up to the big bully boys—like Chuck Schumer and Dick Durbin, who are probably enjoying watching Rubio commit political suicide.

Then last evening VDARE reported from a reader who says his reasonable suggestion for changing the bill has not been posted.  (My reasonable one has not been posted and I did it mid-week last week).   The reader speculates that the Rubio team is selecting the ones that impugn Rubio’s character so that he might treat them dismissively.  The readers ends with this:

One can only hope, evidence to the contrary notwithstanding, that the Senator is more intelligent than he may appear, and that these comments be a welcome pretext for him to withdraw his own support for the bill: he tried valiantly, he reached out to the opposition, but the people have spoken.

He/she has expressed my thoughts (hopes!) too, that Rubio will respond to the passion out there and gracefully back out.  My blog partner, Judy, expressed misgivings about whether Rubio would make such a brave move.  In an e-mail this morning she asked:

Once you’ve joined the ruling class, do you ever leave?

In fact, I would bet at this very moment, the Rubio staff (comrades of Grover) are running to the master and asking Norquist to please help gin-up comments in praise of the bill to balance out what has to be 90-plus percent of commenters who are furious with Marco Rubio.

If you haven’t yet commented, it appears that Rubio’s comment thread is still open even though they have posted nothing new in days!

Go here and tell him what you think!   I know you probably hate the whole thing, but tell him specifically to strip-out, dump! the references to refugees and asylees (especially in light of the Boston horror!).

Are you on twitter?  If so, please tweet this!  And, follow me at Ann C @RefugeeWatcher!
