Kingston, NY: More immigrants nabbed in food stamp fraud bust

I’m guessing they are Indians this time.   Longtime readers know that this type of food stamp fraud appears to be rampant throughout the US where immigrants run ‘mom and pop’ convenience stores.  This is not little stuff like buying goods that aren’t allowed on food stamps, these are generally busts involving hundreds of thousands in taxpayer dollars when card holders are given cash at 50 cents on the dollar by the store clerk.  The scammers then submit the full dollar for reimbursement from you—the taxpayer.

From Mid Hudson News:

KINGSTON – Two men are under arrest, charged in connection with a 10 month investigation into fraud and potential money laundering, Ulster County District Attorney Holley Carnright said Tuesday. Hundreds of thousands of dollars were stolen from state taxpayers through the operation, it is alleged.

Kuldeep Singh and Surinder Kumar have been charged have been charged with grand larceny in the fourth degree, felony misuse of food stamps, falsifying business records in the first degree and scheme to defraud in the first degree.

The charges allege the men, along with another individual, Kanwarjit Sing, have been operating an extensive food stamp fraud and unregistered money service business out of the Sunoco Convenient Mart on Broadway in the City of Kingston.

Kingston Police officers conducted a sting operation with undercover officers using food stamp cards to purchase alcoholic beverages, gasoline, cigarettes and in exchange for money.

For each transaction, the men would skim 50 percent profit, which would be reimbursed by the state.

For more details, visit Mid Hudson News.

I suspect the E-2 Treaty Investor program should be investigated as the source for all the convenience stores owned by immigrants, as I have mentioned many times previously.  If you have a little seed money to invest you can get into the US from certain countries, buy a convenience store and start the money factory for oneself.

For the dozens of locations in the US where we have observed this form of fraud, use our search function for ‘food stamp fraud’ and it will return pages of posts on the scam—-all virtually set up the same way.

Center for Immigration Studies: Changes to Immigration committee assignments coming soon

The Center for Immigration Studies posted last week on some anticipated changes (due to the Republicans gaining the majority in the US House of Representatives) in the make-up of House Committees dealing with immigration issues.  Check out their predictions here

Having recently heard Steve King (R-Iowa) speak, I am looking forward to his chairmanship of the House Judiciary Committee subcommittee on immigration and refugees, here.

More on the three-state Somali sex trafficking indictment, Omar Jamal is on the case!

Jerry Gordon writing at New English Review pointed out that our old buddy, Omar Jamal, put his two cents worth into the discussion on the Somali sex gangs, here yesterday.

Quoted in a Fox News report, that old reliable quote machine, Jamal, said this:

Omar Jamal, an advocate for Somalis in Minnesota, said the allegations shocked the Somali community, whose members pointed out Islam forbids such activity.

“Collectively, they might have been in denial that such grave sex minor trade could ever be going on in the community,” he said. “It’s a kind of crime that a community can never think of their kids as being capable of doing this. … People are saying, ‘How could this be? How could such a thing happen?'”

Looks to me like Jamal is confirming they were Somali “kids” indicted.  Funny because last night the ever-present Allahsoldier told us they weren’t Somalis at all, but “djiboutians” (whatever that is)  in a comment to my post yesterday.

Back to the story folks Who got. Arrested were NOT Somalis but djiboutians who speak and look like Somalis . Most ethiopians and eriterians
And djiboutians always say that they are from Somalia in order to get their immigration papers and plus change their names too like Ann or Annie something like that.

Omar Jamal: a brief history

For new readers, we haven’t written much about Omar Jamal ever since he went to the United Nations to represent Somalia, here, in January.  But, previous to that we wrote about him regularly here at RRW—I called him the Jesse Jackson of the Somali community because he seemed to be everywhere to spin positive stories out of  negative ones on Somalis.

I first noticed Jamal in 2007 when he spun a Somali rape case in St. Paul.  It was kind of hard to spin because the crime was caught on surveillance camera.

Then he dashed out to Denver when they found a dead Canadian Somali in a hotel room with enough cyanide to kill hundreds in advance of the Democratic National Convention in 2008.  He helped spin the story that the guy was mentally impaired after calling the family he said he knew in Canada.

He insinuated himself in the alleged vote fraud in Minneapolis in the Norm Coleman/Al Franken race, as well as Somali murder cases and other gang violence in that city.

Then he was deeply entangled in the Minneapolis Somali missing youth story—you know the story where Somali “kids” went back to Africa for Jihad training.

Next he dashed off to New York City to see if he could be of any help in the Somali pirate case after supposedly talking to the “kids'” family in Somalia.

About that time, the man who was convicted of immigration fraud in Tennessee in 2005 and should have been deported ended up at the United Nations!

I’m too lazy to put in all the links so just type Omar Jamal into our search function and find pages and pages of posts in which he has been mentioned.

I was surprised to learn he is back spinning stories in Minneapolis.

Canada: Old man/young man Chinese asylum seeker used US passport

This is an update on the story that is now all over the news that we reported here a few days ago.

Seems the Chinese man who used an elaborate mask of an old man to board a plan in Hong Kong was helped by at least one American.

From CTV Winnipeg:

A young Chinese refugee claimant who disguised himself as an elderly white male to board a flight to Canada used a legitimate U.S. passport and other identification, CTV News has learned.

Sources close to the investigation say the man received the passport and other documents, including a boarding pass, from an elderly white American who passed through security.

The refugee claimant then flushed the documents down the airplane toilet during the flight, CTV’s Ottawa Bureau Chief Robert Fife reported Monday night. [We’ve heard of this standard asylum-seeker procedure of flushing documents down the toilet in flight—ed]

Police in Hong Kong believe the young man had at least two accomplices, including the American.

“Officials say that this isn’t your usual human smuggling operation run by organized crime. They suspect that he might be a Chinese dissident,” Fife said.

The incident has revealed that Canada has a security leak.

Richard Kurland, a Vancouver immigration lawyer who is not involved in the case, told The Canadian Press that the media leak was a serious breach of security.

“A refugee claim happens many times a day in Canada, but an intelligence bulletin that’s current, that finds its way to CNN? It’s astonishing,” Kurland said.

“It’s a potential hole in the intelligence fence.

29 Somalis indicted for sex trafficking

Update January 1, 2011:  Minneapolis Star Tribune has a great story about how this case developed, here.

Update December 4th:  Accused sex-traffickers had access to restricted airport areas in Nashville, here.

Update November 24th: New York Times gets around to the story, here.

Update November 13th: Minneapolis Somalis react, here.

Update November 12th: Indicted want out of custody, here.

Update November 10th: Names and photos posted of those arrested, here.  Muslim women involved as abusers.

Update November 9th: The master of spin, Omar Jamal, is back, here.

We told you this might be coming here two months ago but at that time we didn’t know Columbus, Ohio Somalis were involved.    Now, today, comes the indictment (hat tip: Ed and others).

From the Minneapolis Star Tribune:

MINNEAPOLIS – Twenty-nine people have been indicted in a sex trafficking ring in which Somali gangs in Minneapolis and St. Paul allegedly forced girls under age 14 into prostitution in Minnesota, Tennessee and Ohio, according to an indictment unsealed Monday.

The 24-count indictment, unsealed in U.S. District Court in the Middle District of Tennessee, said one of the gangs’ goals was recruiting females under age 18, including some under age 14, and forcing them into prostitution so the defendants could get money, marijuana or liquor.

The indictment details several instances in which young Somali or African American girls were taken from place to place and forced to engage in sex acts with multiple people. One girl was under 13 when she was first prostituted. Another girl was 18 when she was raped by multiple men in a hotel room, the indictment said.

Three gangs of former refugees or children of refugees were involved (friends of yours, Allahsoldier?):

The indictment claims the ring involved three Minneapolis-based gangs — the Somali Outlaws, the Somali Mafia and the Lady Outlaws — and that all three gangs are connected. The men and women charged were either gang members or associates of the gangs, the indictment said. They range in age from 19 to 38.

[….]

Jerry Martin, the U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Tennessee, said the defendants traveled back and forth easily between Nashville and St. Paul, and some may have been related. Both cities, as well as Columbus, have large Somali refugee populations.

By the way, we heard a similar story on a smaller scale from Seattle, here, nearly two years ago.

For new readers: We have admitted well over 100,000 Somali refugees to the US.   To check out the numbers visit this post, one of our most widely read posts over the last few years.   In FY2010 which ended September 30th the US State Department resettled 4,884 Somalis (here) to towns near you.

Also, after being closed for nearly two years, the US State Department is on the verge of resuming the fraud-ridden family reunification program that admitted as many as 36,000 Somalis fraudulently to the US between 2003 and 2008.  See the latest on new regulations, here.  The State Department is on the verge of re-opening the program.
