Comprehensive Immigration Reform: Will he or won’t he?

Update April 28th:  Good op-ed here on the Arizona law. Author suggests to counter boycott of Arizona that everyone who supports the law should visit or spend money in Arizona.

In light of the measure signed into law in Arizona yesterday which allows police officers in that state to arrest illegal aliens, President Obama seems on the verge of pushing the on-again-off-again amnesty legislation this year.

From Reuters:

WASHINGTON, April 23 (Reuters) – President Barack Obama on Friday warned that without federal immigration reform the door would be open to “misguided efforts” such as a new Arizona law that has raised questions of civil rights.

Obama pressed for immigration reform at a White House Rose Garden ceremony in which 24 members of the U.S. military originally from China, Mexico, Ethiopia and other countries became American citizens.

“Today we celebrate the very essence of the country that we all love — an America where so many of our forbearers came from someplace else,” said Obama, whose father was Kenyan.

“And so on a day like this, we are also reminded of how we must remain both a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws,” he said. “This includes fixing America’s broken immigration system.”

Just hours after Obama singled out the Arizona measure as threatening “to undermine basic notions of fairness that we cherish as Americans,” the state’s Republican Governor Jan Brewer signed into effect the toughest immigration law in the United States.

Meanwhile, Gateway Pundit tells us that by a large majority Arizona voters approve of the strong measure.

To our critics who wonder what this has to do with legal refugees, here is my answer.  All of the federal contractors whose job it is to resettle refugees and find them homes and jobs are busy lobbying for so-called Comprehensive Immigration Reform (and were involved in the recent open borders march).  Are they also using our tax dollars earmarked for refugee resettlement for their politcal activities?

And, would someone please explain to me how giving amnesty to millions of illegal aliens will help legal refugees find jobs.

Update:  Here we go!  A bunch of agencies that have federal contracts to take care of refugees are blasting the Arizona law that is all about coming into the country ILLEGALLY.   I don’t know why they don’t focus on taking good care of their legal refugees! The only thing I can figure is that they figure if millions are legalized overnight they will be getting more of your tax dollars for programs for the newly legalized.  I’m sorry to say, that old axiom—follow the money—seems to apply here too!

Haitians entering US through Canada-Vermont border

No one knows for sure why the Haitians who had been living in Canada after fleeing there some time ago to avoid deportation from the US are now re-entering the US.  115 have been caught so far.  I’m guessing there is some misunderstanting about the Temporary Protected Status (hinted in this article) that Obama gave Haitians already in the US illegally when the Earthquake occurred in January.

From the Burlington Free Press:

Over the past two and a half months — ever since Haiti was devastated by a monstrous earthquake Jan. 12 — a growing number of Haitian expatriates have been trying to come back into the United States after departing the country just years earlier to avoid deportation.

As of late last week, the number of Haitians caught since the earthquake allegedly trying to enter the country illegally had topped 115, said Mark Henry, operations officer for the U.S. Border Patrol’s Swanton sector.

Of the 115, one was caught in New York and 114 were apprehended in Vermont, Henry said. The Swanton sector covers the border from New Hampshire through Vermont to Ogdensburg, N.Y.

Tristram Coffin, the U.S. Attorney for Vermont, said he would not speculate on why Vermont’s border was such a preferred option for the Haitians.

Betsy Horsman, a deputy U.S. Attorney who works on immigration cases out of Plattsburgh, N.Y., said she suspects the Haitians think they have a better shot of entering Vermont’s border undetected than they would in upstate New York.

“We’re known over here as being very aggressive,” she said. “I don’t know why they would choose Vermont unless there are a couple of places in Vermont they know about.”

Do they think Temporary Protected Status will work for them?

They also are coming back here hoping that an 18-month ban of deportations to Haiti put in place by the Obama administration after the quake might give them time to establish themselves in America and strengthen their case for permission to reside in the country permanently.

“I suspect this has a lot to do with the Temporary Protected Status policy because of the earthquake,” Henry said.

Church World Service involved?

Way back in 2007 we reported that a subcontractor of federal refugee contractor, Church World Service, was arrested for human trafficking in Canada.  They were smuggling Haitians to Canada.   Hope they are not involved in helping them back across the border now.  Obviously someone suggested Vermont.

Lutheran says Glenn Beck was right

Fox News Glenn Beck told his viewing audience recently to take a look at your church’s website and run like heck if you see the words “social justice” and/or “economic justice.”  He said they were code for a socialist political agenda.

I’ve been lumping all Lutherans together (as I did in my remarks about the March on America on Sunday, here).  But, now, thanks to this article that came to my attention this a.m. I understand better.  Just as there is a massive split in the Catholic Church between both religiously and politically conservative parishoners and far left activists (USCCB?), so too does the split exist in the Lutheran Church.

Here is the article that helped clarify for me the split among Lutherans in the US:

Contact: Rev. CJ Conner, Author of “Jesus and the Culture Wars,” 651-373-9137

MEDIA ADVISORY, March 22 /Christian Newswire/ — Rev. CJ Conner, author of “Jesus and the Culture Wars,” submits the following and is available for comment:
When Glenn Beck pleaded, “I beg you. Look for the words “social justice” or “economic justice” on your church Web site. If you find it, run as fast as you can,” he raised the virulent ire of “progressive” Christians.

Many congregations and people are already running as fast as they can in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. At least 160 congregations have left the ELCA since their August decision to ordain practicing gay pastors in the name of social justice. Many of these churches are 10-30 times the size of the average 110 member ELCA Congregation. But gay ordination is not the primary reason they are running for the exits.

The 6,000 member Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley Minnesota has decided to begin severing ties with the ELCA. At the heart of their decision is “The ELCA’s emphasis on formulating and advocating numerous political and social positions, which has gone beyond the scope of the mission of the Church.” And, “At ELCA synod conventions, instead of focusing on how to share the good news of Jesus Christ in the world, they have acted more like the platform committee of a political party or political action group.” They are leaving because this pre-occupation with the “progressive” political agenda “causes division” and “distracts our church away from keeping the ‘main thing’ the ‘main thing’.”

Beck is right.

An analysis of the ELCA national website shows that words like salvation, repentance, and grace are outnumbered 2-to-1 by phrases like “social justice” and “advocacy.” The ELCA Presiding Bishop Mark Hanson shares a common agenda with President Obama- an agenda finely honed at the Saul Alinsky church-based community organizing center, Gamaliel, in Chicago- where both men got their start on their road to power.

There was a reason why Alinsky dedicated his book “Rules for Radicals” to Satan.

The so-called “Mainline Church” has been on the forefront of the “progressive” movement that has so bitterly divided the nation. From their policies against Israel, to their feverish advocacy for “health care and immigration reform”, to their advocacy for gay marriage, unfettered abortion rights, and a whole host of policies long associated with communist regimes rather than the Christian Church, “progressive” denominations like the ELCA have been leading the charge for years to divide and conquer America, impose their utopian views, and destroy American freedom.

In some ways maybe it’s a good thing that Obama was elected because now it becomes clearer who represents which world view and we can all stop muddling around in the middle.  Baron Bodissey said at Gates of Vienna recently that it is good that the final showdown will likely come in this generation.

So how does this involve refugees?     Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services (one of nine soon to be ten federal refugee contractors)  is in the political Far Left camp—the camp of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.  Here they are a partner of ELCA.  Here is LIRS history that includes ELCA.

I sure hope we don’t find out that the large outlay of federal money going to LIRS for refugee care is helping support the ELCA as we learned was happening in the floundering Episcopal Church.

And, you know what is so funny (sad! hypocritical!),  LIRS that supported that demonstration for humanity on the Mall on Sunday is often cited as a refugee agency not taking very good care of the human beings they are paid to resettle.  It is becoming increasingly clear to me that the refugees, the human beings, are just pawns in a larger political game.

Use our search function for ‘Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services’ for more.  I discussed “progressive Christianity” here last October in a post about “progressives” pushing Japan to accept Rohingya Muslims into their country.

Arizona sheriff launches illegal immigration “sweep”

It’s happening this weekend which says to me that Sheriff Joe Arpaio has a great sense of humor!

This weekend as I have been telling you (here and here) for some time now is the March on America (it’s really March for America but I reject the “for”) where labor union leaders, immigrant advocacy groups, and friends of George Soros the CATHOLIC CHURCH, the LUTHERAN CHURCH, and CHURCH WORLD SERVICE (those are the Crop Walk people, btw) among others will be demonstrating in DC in support of Comprehensive Immigration Reform (better known as the Amnesty initiative).

Although come to think of it some of Joe’s illegal aliens might be off in DC having been bussed there by the Tides Foundation’s front group Reform Immigration for America!

From AP:

PHOENIX – The Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office in Arizona has launched a two-day, countywide crime and immigration sweep that authorities say will focus on drop houses, drug violators and human smuggling vehicles.

Four hundred deputies and volunteer posse members are taking part in the patrols. The sweep, which began Thursday, is Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s 14th since early 2008.

During the sweeps, deputies flood an area of a city — in some cases heavily Latino areas — to seek out traffic violators and arrest other alleged lawbreakers.

Critics say Arpaio’s deputies have racially profiled Hispanics. The sheriff says deputies approach people only when they have probable cause to believe people have committed crimes.

In your face Holder!

Meanwhile Obama endorses draft Senate plan to legalize illegals, here.

It’s time for the IRS to investigate the money-laundering Tides Foundation

Of course they won’t, not while Obama is President anyway—the IRS works for him.  This article that Judy just sent from American Thinker reminded me that I needed to tell you that Eric P. Schwartz, Assistant Secretary of State for Populations, Refugees and Migration is part of the Tides network having been director of Connect US Fund a spinoff of the Tides Foundation which receives staff support from the Tides Center.

Here we have the Tides Center announcing Schwartz’s appointment to the Asst. Secretary job.

Quoting liberally from ActivistCash.com, American Thinker author Clarice Feldman reports on the Tides Foundation and how it operates differently then other Far Left foundations (Rockefeller, Pew and so forth).  It pulls together secret sources of funds and distributes them to groups they basically incubate.  Feldman concludes:

It’s way past time that the IRS thoroughly investigates this sham operation and Congress end the practice of allowing such money laundering.

Consider this then Part II of my initial report on one-worlder Eric P. Schwartz.

Connect US Fund which Schwartz directed before coming to the State Department is a Tides Foundation creation, that itself funds projects using this money first laundered by Tides.  Consider it kind of a second wash.  Before Obama’s election, Connect US Fund was busy influencing Obama’s foreign policy positions and they probably still are!

By the way, I wrote about the Tides Foundation here last June.  I noted that the International Rescue Committee (one of nine federal refugee contractors) has received some of the freshly washed money flowing out of Tides.

Hail, Hail, the gang’s all here.

Now check out Muckety and the connections between Drummond Pike (Tides Foundation head honcho), George Soros, the Center for American Progress (here the CAP wants to airlift 100,000 Iraqis to the US), the International Crisis Group and the rest of the extensive tangled web of advocates of a borderless world and one-world government.

Pushing for more refugees and immigrants to come to America is all about politics for this gang and that is why we see little interest in complaints from us and others around the country that their pawns (the refugees) are living in deplorable conditions.  It is not about the individual human beings—the refugees are expendable afterall.  It is about the war of the “have-nots” against the “haves” (see bring us your poor and angry, here).  They need to keep their pawns poor and angry and that is why we are seeing no reduction in the  numbers of refugees resettled in the US this year when there are no jobs and no hope for them.
