Senate "oversight" hearing scheduled this week on the Refugee Admissions Program

Don’t get me wrong, I am thrilled that some Congressional committee is attempting to review the UN/US State Department Refugee Admissions Program and as far as I can tell, it will be the first time Congress takes seriously its “consultation” responsibility since before 911.  That said, as I review the list of those testifying, do the Senators really think they will get anything but a snow-job from two of those on the list of entrenched bureaucrats (Bartlett and Carey) who have every incentive to keep the monster going.

Bartlett with map
Do Senators really think that Asst. Sec. of State Anne Richard’s right hand man (Larry Bartlett pictured here) is going to tell the Senators anything negative about how refugees are resettled in America. By the way, see the newest version of that map behind him, here: http://www.wrapsnet.org/Portals/1/Affiliate%20Directory%20Posting/PRM%20Affilaite%20Map%20with%20details1.13.15.pdf

Just last week Lawrence Bartlett traveled to Twin Falls, Idaho to participate in a laughable demonstration of a stacked public “forum” to attempt to quell the citizen criticism of the program there in Magic Valley.  Watch Bartlett in action here.
I do need to comb through that entire video and pull out some Bartlett gems for you.  When I posted on the “forum” here I hadn’t watched the videotape, so to clarify: Bartlett didn’t say they don’t drop off refugees in unwelcoming towns, he actually (with a malevolent look) said “unsafe” towns implying that opponents of refugee resettlement might be violent people!  It is an outrage!
Also, when asked why local citizens don’t have more say in who and how many will be resettled, he made it clear that this was designed as a federal program administered from Washington (so tough luck to local communities, we call the shots).  He didn’t exactly say it that way, but that was the clear message he was sending.
***Update*** Jim sends this link for the segment of Bartlett’s remarks just mentioned. More great information on the Twin Falls “forum” from opponents, here.
The Refugee Act of 1980 (Kennedy, Biden, Carter) does require consultation with local elected officials, something that is done (if at all) in the most cursory fashion and with local ‘friendly’ officials first and foremost.
Anyway, back to the hearing for October 1 (the first day of the 2016 fiscal year where 10,000 or more Syrian, mostly Muslim, refugees will be on the way to these towns and more).
Will those testifying say anything more than all is well, every town is welcoming, Syrians will be screened, blah, blah, blah.
I would like to have seen a mayor*** with problems be among the witnesses.
I’m told if you go to the Judiciary Committee website at the time of the hearing you can watch it live.

NOTICE OF COMMITTEE HEARING

The Senate Committee on the Judiciary has scheduled a hearing of the Subcommittee on Immigration and the National Interest entitled “Oversight of the Administration’s FY 2016 Refugee Resettlement Program: Fiscal and Security Implications” for Thursday October 1, 2015 at 2:00 p.m., in Room 226 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

By order of the Chairman.

Witnesses

Mr. Larry Bartlett
Director Of Admissions
Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration | United States Department of State
Washington , D.C.

Ms. Barbara Strack
Chief, Refugee Affairs Division
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services | United States Department of Homeland Security
Washington , D.C.

Mr. Matthew Emrich
Associate Director, Fraud Detection And National Security Directorate
United States Citizenship and Immigration Services | United States Department of Homeland Security
Washington , D.C.

Mr. Robert Carey
Director, Office Of Refugee Resettlement
United States Department of Health and Human Services
Washington , D.C.

Incidentally, Carey is one of the many in federal government who rotated in from a contractor’s job.  Think about it, now he is the dispenser of federal grants to the contractor he once worked for—the International Rescue Committee.
***In Twin Falls, Bartlett did mention some cities where they have problems with mayors, but implied they had been resolved. (He also whacked the citizens of Spartanburg).  He said they had pushback from mayors in Manchester, NH, Amarillo, TX, and Springfield, Massachusetts—all three of which we have covered extensively on these pages.

Scottish first minister changes her mind about inviting Syrians to share her home

Invasion of Europe news……

No surprise is it!  A lot of political big shots as well as Lefties in the entertainment business bragged in recent months that they would invite Syrian families to live in their homes.  Now that Syrians are actually on the way (in this case to the UK) there is much backtracking on that obviously politically motivated promise of just a few weeks ago.

Nicola Sturgeon home
Nicola with hubby in their lovely home: Syrians welcome to share it (NOT)! Photo: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3039333/Sturgeon-s-right-buy-betrayal-parents-bought-council-house-8-000-1984-won-t-Nicola-Sturgeon-allow-aspirational-Scots-privilege-today.html

Case in point is this story about Nicola Sturgeon, first minister of Scotland and head of the Scottish National Party.
Let me be clear!  Anyone who is willing to open their home to indigent people and use their own private resources to care for them is to be greatly commended.  However, and this is a driving force behind my writing, stealing money (yes stealing!) from taxpayers to fund one’s charitable endeavors is an abomination in my view.
Why should some struggling family, with two parents working to just get ahead, have to be taxed so some rich big shot do-gooders can don their white hats of humanitarianism and pat themselves on their backs for being charitable?
And, I find it shameful that this Pope and his US Bishops are also stealing from taxpayers to fund their faux ‘Christian charity.’
The Pope has invited one Christian Syrian family to live at the Vatican—big deal!
Here is the story at the Daily Mail (but I see it reported lots of other places as well).  Emphasis below is mine:

Nicola Sturgeon was accused of backtracking last night after it was revealed she had ‘no plans’ to let Syrian refugees live in her home despite promising to do so during a television interview.

The Scottish First Minister made national headlines after she claimed she would be ‘absolutely happy’ to open her home to people fleeing war and violence in the Middle East.

But as the first of the 20,000 Syrian refugees due to come to Britain by 2020 arrived on Tuesday, Ms Sturgeon said she would not be offering them the chance to stay at her home.

Her spokesman said: ‘She said she would be willing to do it if that’s what it took, but she did not say that there were any plans for that to happen. So if you’re phoning to find out if there’s an update, then there is no update.’

Asked in an interview on Sky News on September 6 if she would house Syrian refugees in her own home, Ms Sturgeon replied: ‘Yes, I would.

[….]

Thousands of people have offered to house refugees in their homes in recent weeks, among them Live Aid founder Bob Geldof, politician Yvette Cooper and actress Emma Thompson.

[….]

Scottish Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser said: ‘This just demonstrates the dangers of politicians making glib promises to get favourable headlines, when they have no intention of delivering. First Nicola said she’d welcome a refugee family to her home, obviously for political gain.

‘Now she is quite clearly back-tracking. It is very insincere indeed, but this is what we’ve come to expect from the SNP. The public now see they’re a party that will say anything for a headline, then when it doesn’t suit them, they do the complete opposite.’

By the way, since the UK is going to rely on the UNHCR to pick their Syrian refugees, the vast majority will be Sunni Muslim Syrians that inhabit UN camps in Jordan, Turkey and Lebanon.  Christian Syrians, we are told, do not go to these camps out of fear for their safety.
Inhabitants of those camps (in Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon) will not be permanent residents with citizenship, however, all those coming to the US, the UK, Canada, etc. will become voting citizens of our western countries.

RRW Weekly roundup for the week ending September 26, 2015

I’m very pleased to report that as we wrap up September 2015, we have more than doubled (almost tripled) our daily readership and thus you are making September our top month since we began writing RRW in July 2007.
The issue of refugee resettlement and its impact on American communities is now being widely examined and questioned by American citizens who had no clue this has been going on for 35 years! And, thus more and more people are hungry for information.
For our thousands of new readers, our weekly roundup is an opportunity to tell all of you which posts were the most read, and from which countries most of our readers hailed from.  It is also a place where we tell you how to make the most out of your visits here. Since we are only 15 posts shy of hitting the 7,000 posts mark, there is a lot cataloged on these pages and we want you to be able to find it.
As a matter of fact, because there are so many new readers, I might repost some stories from past years, ones I consider very significant.

Top Three Posts of last week are these.

(See our right hand sidebar for what is trending right now—top daily posts.)

1)Trump: NO Syrian refugees, take care of Americans first!

2)Grassroots campaign under way to prevent Obama’s plan for Syrian refugee resettlement to go forward in CR

3)Breaking: Ben Carson says a Muslim should not be President of the US; CAIR comes out with both barrels

By the way, we have a facebook page with almost 8,000 likes.  This post on Ben Carson reached 22,000 people.  A lot of you remind me that so far Carson hasn’t been good on immigration, however, his knowledgeable and resolute stance on Sharia law tells me he might be moved on immigration issues once he understands them better. I’m guessing that Carson is not ruled by emotion, but by his intellect.  And, it is pretty clear where mass migration of third worlders into advanced countries will take us.

Top Ten Countries from which readers arrived at RRW during the past week (excluding the US):

Canada

UK

Australia

Germany

Netherlands

Finland

Sweden

France

New Zealand

South Africa

For New Readers:  Go here to a recent weekly roundup and learn about how to get the most out of your visits to RRW. Reminder that we are on facebook and twitter.
Let me be clear to new readers, it is just me here; RRW is not an organization with staff (with LOL! interns), with salaries, offices and such.  Our mission is to try to get you the important news every day on a subject that I believe is the most important one the US has faced since its founding.  What we decide now about immigration, about numbers and from where the immigrants will come, will determine whether America and Western Civilization itself lives or dies—I believe it is that important! Europe is just a little ahead of us in committing suicide, so we watch it carefully.
I apologize again and again that I can’t read all of your e-mails, I am trying harder, but it is just that there aren’t enough hours in the day!
One more thing:  My introductory youtube video is now at 1.6 million views.  Watch it here.

Connecticut elected officials welcome Syrian (Muslim) refugees

I was on the Lori on Liberty show from Connecticut yesterday, but hadn’t seen the news that Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) is out stumping for more Syrians (mostly Muslims) to be resettled in Connecticut.  Congresswoman Elizabeth Esty, a Democrat from the 5th District, is on board too.  The governor, according to the Washington Times is warming to the idea.

chris-murphy-ap
Murphy to Obama: 10,000 Syrians for next year is not enough! BTW, next year begins on Thursday.

Get ready Connecticut (where Yale has accepted a Saudi billionaire’s gift to build an ISLAMIC LAW CENTER there).
From the Washington Times:

With heart-rending images of desperate migrants flooding into Europe, some have called on the U.S. to do more. President Obama recently issued an order allowing up to 10,000 refugees from Syria into the United States during the next fiscal year, but even that is not enough, said Connecticut Sen. Chris Murphy.

[….]

In addition to the humanitarian obligations, he said there are practical reasons for helping the refugees. “We’re losing credibility (in the Middle East) if we sit on the sidelines,” said Murphy, a Democratic freshman who recently visited refugee camps in Jordan.

We knew 2016 Presidential candidate Marco Rubio was using weasel-words on the Syrians, but here the Washington Times reports that he is on board to increase refugee numbers to America.

Several Republican presidential candidates, including Sens. Lindsay Graham of South Carolina and Marco Rubio of Florida, are also pressing for an increase in the number of refugees allowed into the U.S., as long as they are thoroughly vetted to determine that they are not part of a terrorist group.

Elizabeth Esty

The FBI testified in February that the Syrian refugees could NOT BE THOROUGHLY VETTED—where have those Senator been?
The Washington Times continues….

Murphy agreed, saying the U.S. should “spare no expense” in investigating the refugees to ensure they have no terrorist connections. But, he added, “just because a place like Syria is violent, that doesn’t mean everyone who lives there is violent. We have a very sophisticated process for vetting refugees.”  [No we don’t—ed]

[….]

Rep. Elizabeth Esty, a Democrat from the 5th District, last week signed onto a letter to President Obama urging additional aid for the refugees. She said she would welcome refugees that have been thoroughly vetted resettle in her district and her community. [Danbury, Litchfield, Waterbury etc.—ed]

Waterbury reminds me ofWhoop-de-do’ in Waterbury several years ago when the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants‘ subcontractor was exposed in a local paper for neglecting mostly Burmese refugees in their care.  The US State Dept. at least temporarily shuttered the program there.  It may be up and running now for all I know.
I just noticed in that 2008 ‘Whoop-de-do’ post that refugees were receiving $850 per head upon arrival and the contractor was keeping half.  Here we are 7 years later and the amount per refugee now stands at $1975 per refugee!
For more information, go here to see if your city has already gotten Syrian refugees.  If so, you have been targeted for more.
Go here and see that Hartford’s mayor is one of 18 to write to Obama telling him to admit not 10,000 Syrians this year, but 100,000!
