Maine: One of three African refugees gets plea deal in last summer's beating death of man who befriended them

We first posted the story of the grizzly murder here.  Initially a judge had sealed the documents in the case presumably to keep the public calm about the fact that at least two of the alleged murderers are Muslims and that a bloody Bible was found near the victim’s body. Freddy Akoa was a Christian.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) One of three Portland men accused of beating and kicking a man to death in his apartment has pleaded guilty to manslaughter under a plea deal.

Twenty-four-year-old Abil Teshome entered the plea Thursday in Portland. He accepted a deal that caps his maximum prison sentence at 20 years. A murder charge against him was dismissed.

A sentencing date hasn’t been set.

The agreement comes weeks before he was scheduled to stand trial July 11 in the death of 49-year-old Freddy Akoa of Portland. Police say Akoa suffered 22 rib fractures, cuts and bruises to his head and torso and a lacerated liver from the fatal Aug. 9, 2015, attack.

Thirty-two-year-old Osman Sheikh and 37-year-old Mohamud Mohamed have pleaded not guilty in Akoa’s death.

Here is a description from the Portland Press Herald (August 25, 2015) of how Freddy Akoa died:

Freddy Akoa, the Portland man found dead in his Cumberland Avenue apartment this month, had been beaten, kicked and bashed in the head with furniture by his drinking companions during an assault that went on for hours.

Akoa, 49, had 22 rib fractures from the savage attack, cuts and bruises all over his head and torso, and a lacerated liver when his accused killers left him on his living room floor in Apartment 18 at 457 Cumberland Ave. on the morning of Aug. 10.

Those details were made public for the first time Monday when a judge at the Cumberland County Courthouse unsealed an affidavit filed by Portland police Detective Christopher Giesecke to obtain an arrest warrant for three men accused in the killing.

The affidavit had been sealed at a prosecutor’s request for one week after three accused killers appeared in court, each on a charge of murder by depraved indifference. The three – Abil Teshome, 23, Osman Sheikh, 31, and Mohamud Mohamed, 36 – are each being held without bail at the Cumberland County Jail.

The detectives who arrived found the apartment in disarray, with empty beer cans on the counter and clothes and trash strewn about. On the floor near Akoa’s head was a Bible splattered in blood. Beneath his body was an official court document with Mohamed’s name on it. On the kitchen counter was a purse with contents inside with the name of Jennifer Wilson on them, Giesecke stated.

I had been wondering what happened to this case.  Pay attention “welcoming” towns and cities, diversity is not beautiful!

Boys in Idaho sexual assault case released from custody

Here is the latest, including more on CAIR (more concerned with the “anti-Muslim” angle to the story than for the little girl’s well being) , at World Net Daily last night. (Emphasis is mine)

The two Muslim migrant boys from Sudan who were arrested last week on charges of sexually assaulting a 5-year-old girl in Idaho were released into the custody of their parents following a hearing Thursday afternoon, WND has learned.

He probably won’t tell you a thing, but he knows who these kids are and where they came from. They were reportedly released from the Snake River Juvenile Detention Center in Twin Falls pending their next hearing.

According to witnesses on the scene, the boys’ families were seen smiling and hugging after the hearing ended shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday.

“They were waving their arms to the heavens, smiling and throwing their arms around each other,” an eyewitness outside the detention center told WND.

The two Sudanese boys, ages 10 and 14, were reportedly ordered by the court to have no contact with the victim, a 5-year-old special-needs girl, whom they allegedly assaulted in the laundry room of their apartment complex on June 2. They were not arrested until late last week. [Would they have been arrested if citizens hadn’t spoken up?—ed].

A third boy, age 7, was also involved but was never arrested. The younger boys allegedly urinated on the girl and one of them inappropriately touched her but the extent of that violation is not known. The case has been sealed by the prosecutor, which is standard procedure in juvenile offenses.

The older boy, 14, allegedly filmed the entire incident.

The two older boys are from Sudan and the 7-year-old is from Iraq.

The boys and their families have been evicted from the Fawnbrook Apartments where the incident allegedly took place.

First Syrians arrive in Iowa, will get "services"

Just a quickie post to make a couple of points.
The federal resettlement contractor (US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants) bringing refugees to Des Moines is the same one bringing refugees to Idaho (in that still festering controversy about the sexual abuse of a little girl by migrants from Sudan and Iraq).

And, for very new readers, who maybe don’t know, refugees are eligible for all forms of welfare available to Americans including SSI for the elderly and disabled.

DES MOINES, Iowa —The first Syrian refugee family to arrive in Iowa is getting help to start a new life here.

Gov. Terry Branstad ordered the state to do nothing to help those fleeing Syria, but a federal agency works with refugees here.

The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants has a field office in Des Moines, and is treating the Syrian refugees like any other refugees, by setting up an apartment and helping them settle in.

The Tameem family from Syria sat through a class with 60 immigrants from Thailand, Nepal, Malysia, Kenya and Somalia to learn the ropes in Iowa. [Have they all been tested for TB, just wondering—ed]

“When you come to the city seeking services, they cannot treat you differently based on your immigrant status,” said Joshua Barr, of the Des Moines Civil & Human Rights Commission.

Of course “services” is code for welfare of all sorts—food stamps, housing, education, medicaid etc….

And, a “new air” of patriotism.

I’m sure you either stayed up very late or jumped out of bed, like I did, eager to learn the results from the British vote to stay in the European Union or leave, to discover that the “leaves” have won!

Now, leaders, of what The Guardian wants you to be sure to understand, the FAR-RIGHT, are over the moon!  Longtime readers of RRW surely don’t need a big dissertation from me to explain that this vote was all about immigration and whether countries can choose for themselves who enters and what sort of nation they will be.
I bet a buck that if German Chancellor Angela Merkel had never “welcomed” hordes of mostly Muslims from Africa and the Middle East to invade Europe and then demanded that other countries in the EU take them in when Germany became overwhelmed, this vote would never have come out the way it did. (It might never have been called!)
I hope this sends a resounding message to the American electorate as we learn that a new wave of thousands upon thousands of border crossers are entering the US right now and Obama is pushing for his own flood of mostly Muslim refugees to change America as he promised he would 8 years ago.

Europe’s far-right parties hailed the UK’s vote to leave the European Union as a victory for their own anti-immigrant and anti-EU stance and vowed to push for similar referendums in their own countries.

France’s Front National (FN) saw it as a clear boost for Marine Le Pen’s presidential bid next year and momentum for the party’s anti-Europe and anti-immigration line.

Le Pen told RTL radio: “Like a lot of French people, I’m very happy that the British people held on and made the right choice. What we thought was impossible yesterday has now become possible.”

The Dutch far-right and anti-immigration leader Geert Wilders called on Friday for a referendum on the Netherlands’ membership of the European Union.

“I think it’s historic,” he told Dutch radio. “I think it could also have huge consequences for the Netherlands and the rest of Europe. Now it’s our turn. I think the Dutch people must now be given the chance to have their say in a referendum.”

In Germany, Beatrix von Storch, an MEP for rightwing populist party Alternative für Deutschland, who was recently expelled from the Tories’ party group in the European Parliament over her “shooting refugees” comments, welcomed the result.

“The 23 June is a historic day. It is Great Britain’s independence day. The people were asked – and they decided. The European Union as a political union has failed.”

… the leader of Italy’s far-right Northern League party was swift to celebrate the Brexit outcome. “Hurrah for the courage of free citizens! Heart, head and pride beat lies, threats and blackmail. THANKS UK, now it’s our turn,” said Matteo Salvini, whose popularity has increased in recent years on the back of an anti-EU, anti-immigration platform.

I watched CNN’s reporting this morning and Christiane Amanpour was interviewing some FAR-LEFT British pol and he called Le Pen a Nazi.  The international NO Borders agitators are squirming and wetting their pants today, name calling is all they have left. Hey, George Soros you lose! (And, Obama that is two losses for you in two days!)
