Number of “unaccompanied” youths cared for by ORR skyrocketing

Regular readers know that the Office of Refugee Resettlement has an ever-expanding role in taking care of illegal alien kids who get into the US without parents (or whose parents ‘abandon’ them once they cross the border).

The minors may be up to the age of 18 as we learned in the curious criminal case of Galveston “George” here who was basically set free in America once he reached that magical milestone.

A new report says the number of kids in detention and under the care of ORR is growing exponentially and that in some cases their living conditions stink (so send more money!).

The Women’s Refugee Commission* says that violence south of the border is driving kids to come to America.  The Federation for American Immigration Reform disagrees and says that the Obama policy of letting kids stay, go to school and get work visas is serving as a magnet drawing the ‘youths’ to America.

From the Los Angeles Times:

Gang violence in Central America has led to a startling increase in the number of children who make the dangerous journey across the Mexican border alone in search of asylum in the United States, according to a report by the Women’s Refugee Commission, a nonprofit that advocates for displaced women and children.

The number of unaccompanied migrant children in U.S. detention centers grew nearly 50%, from 6,854 in fiscal 2011 to more than 10,000 in the nine-month period ended June 30, according to federal statistics cited in the report, titled “Forced From Home: The Lost Boys and Girls of Central America.” With three months left in the latest reporting period, the fiscal 2012 figures are expected to rise further.

[…..]

Most of the growth came from three countries: El Salvador, with 68% more unaccompanied minors; Guatemala, with 72% more; and Honduras, with the number more than doubling, from 1,201 to 2,477. The number of Mexican children crossing the border alone fell in the same period.

[…..]

The children travel on their own because their parents are already in the U.S., because they are fleeing domestic violence or because the family cannot undertake the journey together, said advocates who work with them.

ORR doing a lousy job say the “women:”

U.S. Customs and Border Protection, along with the Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement, were criticized in the report for operating substandard detention facilities. Officials from the two agencies were unavailable for comment.

FAIR:  Obama created a magnet!  They are coming for their taxpayer-funded goodies and their work visas.

The Federation for American Immigration Reform, an anti-immigration group, blamed the influx of Central American children on a new federal program granting a two-year reprieve from deportation to some young immigrants.

“The Obama administration has made it very clear — if you get your kids to the U.S. and keep them here for a while, they can stay,” said Ira Mehlman, a spokesman for the group. “That’s the unmistakable message he’s sent around the world. Not surprisingly, you have parents who say, ‘Let’s do that.'”

Other countries are responsible for ensuring the safety of their own citizens, Mehlman added. Asylum should be reserved for a select few cases, or “the potential is you could have billions of people qualifying for political asylum in the U.S.”

By the way, we learned here that the growing cost of caring for the illegal minors is cutting into funds normally allocated to counties which have been overloaded with refugees in the primary resettlement program run by the ORR. It’s my opinion that this report is designed as a PR gimmick to pressure Congress into appropriating more money from Congress for the suffering kids (and the contractors!).

* The Women’s Refugee Commission is an offshoot of the largest federal refugee contractor the International Rescue Committee (IRC).  They are just looking to get more federal tax dollars.   George Soros was on the board of the IRC at one point and he probably taught them how to set up all sorts of groups to make it look like there are tons of people interested in the problem.  Coincidentally (not!), Samantha Power also sat on the board of the IRC.

Wow! Monks in Burma say no to Islamist organization in their Buddhist country

Go monks!

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is the largest Islamist political organization in the world.  This week 3000-5000 Burmese monks said, “get out OIC” and “we are not an Islamic country.”

I first saw the story here, but now I see that even the Washington Post ran the story today.  This latest protest follows an uprising of Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar (Burma) earlier this summer.   For new readers this is all very interesting to us since the US State Department and federal refugee contractors are just itching to bring more Rohingya “refugees” to the US.

(Going back almost five years we have 121 previous posts in our Rohingya category, here.)

The OIC says they want to provide aid to the Rohingya, but the monks understand that the Islamists want a foothold and to further inflame tensions between Buddhists and the Rohingya minority (the Buddhists say the Rohingya are really illegal aliens from Bangladesh).

From AP at the Washington Post:

YANGON, Myanmar — Myanmar’s government said it will not allow the Organization of Islamic Cooperation to open a liaison office after thousands of Buddhist monks and laypeople marched Monday to protest the plan.

Sectarian tensions have been running high in Myanmar’s western Rakhine state after clashes in June between Rakhine Buddhists and Bengali Rohingya Muslims which left nearly 90 people dead and displaced tens of thousands. Muslim mosques and Buddhist temples were burned down during the unrest.

Myanmar’s state press had reported that the government and the OIC had agreed last month to open an office in Yangon to provide aid for people displaced by the fighting, and the OIC sent a team to investigate the violence.

On Monday, the Information Ministry cited the President’s Office as saying that “the opening of the OIC office will not be allowed as it is contradictory to the aspirations of the people.”

The OIC has 57 member states and seeks to be the voice of the Islamic world.

The anti-OIC protests were held in four Myanmar cities, including Yangon, the country’s largest city, where about 5,000 people participated. Some said they were marching to safeguard Buddhism.

[…..]

Holding banners reading “We don’t want OIC” and “Long live Buddhism,” the protesters marched from the Shwedagon pagoda to Sule pagoda in the city center, shouting slogans against the OIC and paralyzing traffic in the area.

[…..]

Reflecting widespread public opinion, the head of an influential privately owned news magazine, Weekly Eleven, said there was no need for an OIC office because “we are not a member of the OIC and we are not an Islamic country.”

If only America’s leaders would have the same fortitude as the monks of Myanmar!

Egypt: So much for that Muslim charity fabrication

Somalis having it rough in Egypt!

Readers, a few years ago (2009, here) I took issue with a United Nation’s report that stated that charity toward refugees/immigrants comes from the teachings of the Koran and Shariah Law (more so than Christianity!).  At the time, I pointed to the Muslim countries that were anything but charitable toward asylum seekers.  Now we have (more) news that the new government of Egypt is not only not charitable, but black Muslims seem to be a special target for their hatred.

I guess that Arab Spring thing was only for Arabs!

From Bikyamasr.com:

CAIRO: Somali refugees across the world have passed the one million person mark, said the United Nations refugee agency on Friday, highlighting the growing need for an end to conflict in the Horn of Africa.

[…..]

Here in Egypt, life for Somali refugees is not easy, especially as the government began earlier this year to deport unregistered migrants in the country. Making matters worse, the UNHCR has largely not registered new refugees in the country in recent years.

Hamdy is a 29-year-old Somali living in Egypt. He has been in the country for 6 years and barely survives on the UNHCR monthly allowance.

“I have no real job and life is hard,” he told Bikyamasr.com, sipping his tea and warming his hands as the steam billowed upward. He stares in silence.

“A few of my friends have been arrested by the government when they tried to cross the border into Israel. We don’t know where they are right now and pray they are safe,” he continued. “It is not a good life to be a refugee in Egypt.”

Earlier this year, Egypt deported 93 Ethiopians who entered Egypt with the goal of crossing the Sinai desert into Israel illegally.

For Hamdy and others, this is the only way to make a life for oneself. “What can we do but hope to be allowed to work and have a family,” he said.

In Egypt, life is a struggle, where Africans face racism, ostracism and a lack of opportunity. For children of migrants and refugees, going to school is impossible as the Egyptian government does not allow refugees to attend public schools. For the vast majority of Sudanese and Somalis in the country, this leads to a waiting game, and in recent years as foreign relocation has been all but closed, they remain patiently in their host country for a call that doesn’t come.

The Africans want to get to Israel:

Egypt’s border security has been repeatedly criticized for its “shoot first” strategy in dealing with migrants attempting to cross into the Jewish state, as they often do not issue verbal warnings first and fire at the Africans.

Israel says that approximately 10,000 Africans have entered the country illegally via Egyptian borders over the past few years.

Africans in Egypt complain of poor living conditions and bad treatment at the hands of their host nation. Many see Israel as the next best solution for their troubles and are willing to risk death to reach the Jewish state, refugees in Egypt have repeatedly said.

So, let’s see—Egypt, a Muslim country governed by Shariah law, won’t take care of Muslim refugees, but tiny Israel is pressured into taking them.

Swedish mansion purchased to house refugees in small town

Readers here know that large numbers of refugees/asylum seekers from mostly Muslim countries are flowing into benevolent Sweden,* but up until now it has been a problem of the cities.  This story is about the tiny town of Glava where a local mansion has been purchased by a hastily organized ‘business’ to house 200 refugees.

The author of the piece posits that an industry has cropped up around refugee resettlement where what we would call crony capitalists (LOL! I guess in Sweden this should read crony socialists!) have figured out how to make money off the Swedish welfare system—and at the expense of Sweden’s elderly.

Here is the story from Dispatch International (Hat tip: Richard Falknor at Blue Ridge Forum):

Anxiety has been rising in Arvika municipality after it became known a few weeks ago that the old and stately mansion of Björkåsen in tiny Glava would overnight be turned into a settlement for refugees, for as many people as there are inhabitants in the entire village – 200.

On a daily basis, the Swedish people receive confirmation that mass immigration brings about a rapid dismantling of the Swedish welfare state. Hospital waiting lists are long, with patients sleeping in the hallways; support for private associations is being reduced; summer camps and recreation centers will close down and municipalities reduce the number of places in nursing homes, to name just a few examples. Few local politicians admit that people vote with their feet to show their true feelings about forced multiculturalism: They flee.

Local governing council member who is afraid to speak up by name:

In Arvika, a deeply upset member of the city council only agrees to talk to Dispatch International if we ensure that we will not disclose his/her identity.

– We are living in a refugee industry camouflaged by words without substance, about humanitarianism and anti-racism. In essence, it is a corrupt trade with human beings that is being paid for by stolen funds. The evidence for this we can see in burnt-out, ruined cities, and now the problems have also found their way to us in the countryside. It’s accelerating. One procures buildings everywhere and then use allowances from the Swedish Migration Board – the taxpayers’ money – to get repaid in a matter of weeks, giving the owners billions in profits. There’s a word for this: looting!

Another resident:

The idea of importing an entire village of refugees from Iran, Syria, Macedonia, Somalia and Afghanistan is likely to go down in Swedish history as one of the most destructive exploits in living memory, says one of the customers.

The author tells us about the hastily formed business, Clt Care AB, that stands to profit from its arrangements with the Swedish Migration Board in these transactions to house refugees in the Swedish countryside.  Read it all.

There is something positive in this story for us in the US—maybe as we see Sweden’s socialist ‘safety net’ collapse under the weight of mass immigration we can stop the collapse here in America before it’s too late.
