“Climate refugees” recognized in Gang of Eight bill now before the full Senate

Here is one more reason, you must call your Senators today and tomorrow and tell them NO on “comprehensive” immigration reform.  The word is that Janet Napolitano (or her successor) could decide that “climate-change refugees” are worthy of admitting to the US.

Climate refugees coming to a town near you? I love this illustration! It comes from Diplo (http://www.diplomacy.edu/blog/climate-refugees-new-concept-move)

For readers who have never heard the preposterous thesis on “climate refugees,” see our special category going back several years, here.

From Curtis Cartier of MSN News:

An amendment in the Senate’s immigration bill would address the flood of people fleeing countries affected by climate change.

TRUE:  Hawaii Sen. Brian Schatz’s amendment would potentially give legal status to climate-change refugees

Last week, Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) offered an amendment to the immigration-reform bill currently being debated in the U.S. Senate, which would allow certain people fleeing countries that have been made uninhabitable by climate change to obtain legal status to stay in the United States. And with an estimated 32 million people becoming so-called “climate-change refugees” last year, there may be no shortage of applicants.

Schatz’s office sent a statement to MSN News outlining his reasons for introducing the amendment:

“… the immigration bill recognizes that some people in the United States have lost their nationality and are living in the country in limbo. They are not allowed to stay in the United States but they no longer have a home country to which they can return. The immigration bill establishes a new process for someone already in the United States to come forward and apply to be recognized as a ‘stateless person’ so that he or she can remain in the United States legally.”

As for assurance that passing the bill with the amendment wouldn’t prompt an influx of millions of displaced refugees, Schatz’s statement continues:

“The amendment would not allow foreigners to move to the United States because their nation is affected by climate change. This amendment to the immigration bill gives the Secretary of Homeland Security the discretion, but not an obligation, to take into account situations in which a person cannot return to their country because it’s uninhabitable due to climate change.”

Amendment mocked by conservative websites

The very existence of man-made climate change has become a hot-button political topic among certain Republicans and Democrats, and Schatz’s bill has already sparked derision and mocking from right-wing websites. Breitbart.com demanded that Republicans “pull the plug” on the immigration bill over the amendment, and Weasel Zippers compared people fleeing climate change to “refugees who are being terrorized by the Abominable Snowman.

The whole concept is worthy of derision however, those pushing it are dead serious and have been at their mission for years.  Call the Senate!  Here is a good summary of where we are!

“Radical” Buddhists stand up to “radical” Rohingya Muslims in Burma

The Washington Post calls the Buddhists trying to keep Islamic supremacism from washing over Burma “radicals.”  But, of course the Rohingya Muslims are “long-suffering” and play no role (according to the media meme) in the bouts of violence springing up in Burma/Myanmar.

Westerners need to take a free-speech lesson from the monks!

Thanks to The Muslim Issue for directing us to the latest whitewash of the controversy spreading throughout Southeast Asia as Rohingya Muslims from Burma arrive by the boatload and expect asylum especially in places like Australia.

Having followed the issue for almost 6 years (148 previous posts here at RRW), I find this one-sided reporting maddening.  The latest flare-up of violence began last year when a Buddhist girl was raped and murdered by Muslim men, yet that is long-forgotten in the latest telling.

From the Washington Post (is this a news story, or an opinion piece—it is hard to tell!):

Members of Burma’s Buddhist majority, including some of its much-respected monks, are increasingly persecuting the country’s long-suffering Muslim minority and adopting an ideology that encourages religious violence. It seems a far way from the Buddhism typically associated with stoic monks and the  Lama – who has condemned the violence – and more akin to the sectarian extremism prevalent in troubled corners of the Middle East. The violence has already left nearly 250 Burmese Muslim civilians dead, forced 150,000 from their homes and is getting worse.  [It is infuriating because scores of Buddhist villagers were killed and made homeless by Muslims as well.  Where is the balanced reporting?—ed]

“You can be full of kindness and love, but you cannot sleep next to a mad dog,” Ashin Wirathu, a spiritual leader of the movement and very popular figure in Burma, said of the country’s Muslims, whom he called “the enemy.” He told the New York Times, “I am proud to be called a radical Buddhist.”

[….]

Already, the movement has expanded beyond this one self-styled radical Buddhist monk. It’s now expanding across Burma (also known as Myanmar) according to the Times article. The anti-Muslim sentiment has spread with alarming speed over just the last year, as Burma – which is finally opening up after years of military dictatorship – loosened its strict speech laws. It has prompted boycotts and sermons that can sound an awful lot like calls for violence against Muslims. Monasteries associated with the movement have enrolled 60,000 Burmese children into Sunday school programs.

The article goes on to criticize Aung San Suu Kyi who has largely remained silent on the Muslim Issue.

Just a reminder to American readers, the US Conference of Catholic Bishops testified at the State Department last month that they wanted more Burmese Muslims resettled in America!

Food stamp scammer in Buffalo gets light sentence

He could have gotten up to 20 years in the slammer, a $250,000 fine, or both.

EBT Nation! This is our standard illustration for food stamp fraud stories when we can’t find photos of the perps, which happens a lot! Don’t want to profile those immigrant fraudsters by showing their faces!

Instead, Karem Almadrahi, got eight months home detention and three years’ probation. He has to pay, you, the taxpayers restitution of $67,301.  I suspect that will be hard to do while working legally!

By the way, Riyadh Almadrahi (brother?) got $143,700 through fraud in the same store, here.

This case, which we reported earlier, also contains an interesting nugget of information.  Only rarely do we see Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement involved in these Agriculture Dept. fraud investigations.

Almadrahi must have been flagged for some immigration violation, but the media is loathe to mention that.  Now he can just chill until Congress and Obama get amnesty signed into law.

This is the whole short news report from Sandpoint PR:

BUFFALO, NY June 18, 2013 — U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Karem Almadrahi, 25, of Buffalo, New York, who was convicted of food stamp fraud, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Richard J. Arcara to eight months of home confinement and three years’ probation. The defendant was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $67, 301 to the United States Department of Agriculture.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert C. Moscati, who handled the case, stated that Almadrahi participated in the operation of a deli known as Zip’s Food and Beverage at 896 Niagara Street. The defendant and others exchanged customers food stamp benefits for cash in violation of the known rules governing the food stamp program. In less than a two-year period, Almadrahi acquired approximately $67,301 through these fraudulent transactions.

The sentencing is the result of an investigation on the part of special agents of the United States Department of Agriculture, Office of Inspector General; special agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, under the direction of Acting Special Agent in Charge Richard M. Frankel; Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Homeland Security Investigations, under the direction of Special Agent in Charge James C. Spero; and the New York State Police, Special Investigations Unit, under the direction of Lieutenant Joseph Scioli.

Food stamp fraud is a side interest of mine.  In cities like Buffalo with a high refugee and immigrant population generally, food stamp fraudsters set up these convenience store scams.  Buffalo is one of those cities touted as a special place where immigrants are re-building the city. (yeh right! with welfare from the federal taxpayer).

Here is our complete food stamp fraud archive (for years I didn’t do tags, so use the archive for dozens of posts like this one).

This is it! Call US Senators today to stop the amnesty train….

…..And, to rein-in the refugee resettlement contractors who have been lobbying hard on this bill to make it easier for more refugees and asylum seekers to enter the US, as well as give the contractors more of your tax dollars.

Senators Corker and Hoeven with adoring press being used by Schumer/Obama/Rubio and Grover Norquist and they don’t get it!

This post is cross-posted from Potomac Tea Party Report:

Erick Erickson at RedState posted this commentary by Senator Ted Cruz—here we go again, voting on a monster (over 1000 pages) bill without sufficient time to read it.  Why the rush—because the public is starting to catch on to the horrors in it!

And, if you are thinking it will be O.K. in the House forget it!  They could pass anything in the House and when they go to conference committee, the conferees could take the whole Senate version as the final bill.

Erickson went on to post this list of the key swing Senators (and yes, he wants you to call the architects of the “deal” Corker and Hoeven too):

The nerve! Vatican says you (xenophobes) have an obligation to care for refugees/immigrants…

….and we (Catholic leaders) want more of your tax dollars!

Earlier this month the Vatican released a new study lecturing Catholics on xenophobia and how they should welcome immigrants and other displaced people.  Fine, we should be good and decent people, but what really ticked me off was that there appears to be no mention of the indecent amount of money agencies of the Catholic Church receive from taxpayers in order for them to do their good works.

Are we to have no Christian compassion for the middle class taxpayer who might be working a couple of jobs to care for his/her family, but is forced to pay into the Church’s till through taxation?  Maybe those struggling workers have other ideas about the charity they would like to give to others that doesn’t include the Catholic Church.

And, I’ll bet if you read the whole study about the plight of refugees and sufferers of human trafficking, you would find the root of the problem world wide—the ‘I’ word and the ‘M’ word missing altogether.

Cardinal Antonio Maria Veglio: Give us (the Catholic Church) your tax dollars so we can be charitable and lecture you about being xenophobic!

Here is Catholic News Service on the press conference in early June:

VATICAN CITY (CNS) — Catholic laity have an obligation to root out traces of xenophobia in their hearts and recognize refugees as their brothers and sisters — children of God whose dignity must be protected, said a new Vatican document.

“Welcoming Christ in Refugees and Forcibly Displaced Persons,” a document of pastoral guidelines for providing material and spiritual assistance to people forced to leave their homes was published June 6 by the Pontifical Council for Migrants and Travelers and the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, which promotes and coordinates Catholic charitable activity.

Since the mid-1980s, the document said, the debate surrounding refugees and other asylum seekers has become “a forum for political and administrative election purposes, which fed hostile and aggressive attitudes among the electorate.”

This is infuriating, and who helped the issue of kindness to immigrants become a “political and administrative election” issue—the Catholic Church by demanding taxpayers pay for the Church’s “charity” and forcing communities to take refugees without advance consultation.   Human nature is such that there will be a negative reaction when being forced to do something.  Rather than look into the policies of Catholic organizations that might be generating the anger, it is easier to call you xenophobic.

CNS continued:

In effect, countries are focused more on deterring newcomers from reaching their shores than they are on offering protection and a welcome to suffering people fleeing situations that threatened their lives and dignity, Cardinal Antonio Maria Veglio, president of the council for migrants and travelers, told reporters.

From a Catholic point of view, he said at a Vatican news conference, “every policy, initiative or intervention in this area must be inspired by the principle of the centrality and dignity of the human person.”  [What about the human person who has to pay for your charity?—ed]

Readers, I have a whole bunch of Catholic pro-immigration news so what follows are some short takes.  Please visit the sites for more information and to follow the links before you head off to church where you will surely be lectured today to call your Senators on S.744 (which contains a slush fund for the US Conference of Catholic Bishops among others).

Catholic elites spend millions to sell illegal alien amnesty!

This is a story penned by Brenda Walker back in April.  Walker published a great pie chart to illustrate her post and I’ve been looking for an opportunity to re-post it.

Walker begins at Limits to Growth:

From Catholic Charities at a Glance (2010).
Yes, those are billions in government revenue!

The Catholic church has upped its bankroll to wreck American law and sovereignty. It has added $800,000 to its previous amnesty spending of $3 million, since opening the borders to millions more hispanic Catholics is highly desirable for the bishops.

Not that it’s new for Vaticrats to work to subvert a nation that has been very generous to them. The Catholic hierarchy believe their organization supersedes mere laws and nation-states, particularly when the church sees a way to fill its empty pews. Immigration-fueled demographic change has supplied the Catholic church with more credulous worshippers, helpful to replace the many Americans who have left the church out of disgust with its pervert priest problem. (Around 10 percent of Americans are former Catholics, according to Pew research.)

‘Catholic Bishops promote national suicide’ a must-read at the Thinking Housewife!  Hat tip: Jewel

Christopher Manion’s 2011 Crisis magazine article, “The Catholic Bishops and Immigration Reform” is an indictment of the malfeasance of the “American” (italics entirely intentional) Catholic Bishops concerning immigration and the United States’ borders that is timelier than ever.  I highly recommend it as the execrable Charles Schumer, boy-idiot Marco Rubio, man-lunatic John McCain and light-in-the-loafers Lindsey Graham conspire with Barack Hussein Obama, the Democratic Party and the Republican establishment – bought by such as Sheldon Adelson and Mark Zuckerberg — to destroy the United States through their illegal-alien-amnestying, “guest”-worker-increasing, legal-and-illegal-immigration-increasing, immigration enforcement-gutting S. 744 bill.

Catholic Charities volunteer, Mark Krikorian, fired!

Mark Krikorian, himself from an immigrant family, is now director of the Center for Immigration Studies and was featured this past week in a Washington Post Style Section profile about his research and policy work in limiting immigration to America.  He volunteered his time at Catholic Charities (demonstrating there is nothing xenophobic about him!) and VDARE reports he has been fired from his charitable work in the wake of the WaPo feature story.

Krikorian’s organization writes policy reports and criticizes government programs, yet the Catholic elite (the “good” people!) can’t counter with good policy work, they must denigrate critics by calling them xenophobic or racist.

In Europe the Jesuits lecture/lobby too!

Be sure to have a look at this story from the Jesuits in Europe—Catholics knee-deep in government policy there too.  I wonder if they have a taxpayer-funded slush fund for their charitable work lobbying the EU (just as the Bishops take from Caesar in America? ) Does anyone know?

Tomorrow!  Call your US Senators and tell them to vote NO! on S.744!

See my post at Potomac Tea Party Report for more background and phone numbers.  Also, here is our archive on all the posts we’ve written at RRW on S.744.
