Big lie! US detaining large numbers of asylum seekers

23,000 Mexicans sought asylum in the US in first nine months of 2013 https://refugeeresettlementwatch.org/2013/10/25/more-than-23000-mexicans-sought-asylum-in-us-this-year-so-far/

One of many myths that the open borders crowd is trying to peddle is the notion that large numbers of poor persecuted asylum seekers are being locked up in American jails for years waiting for a court date for their asylum case.  Not true!

Just a reminder, there are two categories of “refugees.”  The term “refugee” is usually reserved for those largely designated by the UN around the world as in need of third country resettlement.  In other words, they have left their own country looking for refuge and the UN then determines they need to be sent to a Western country (or Australia/New Zealand).  The lions’ share of resettled refugees goes to the US.

Then there are the asylum seekers who get into the US on their own steam, either by overstaying a visa (tourist, foreign student etc.), or they come across a border by land, by sea, or by air and ask for asylum (usually after first being apprehended).  They are still illegal aliens!  If granted asylum, they become “refugees” for the purpose of getting taken care of through taxpayer funding, just like the refugees picked by the UN/US State Department.   Of course, as we know, a few states—-Maine for one—-give asylum seekers financial support even before they have been granted asylum/refugee status.

And, don’t forget we just learned that 70% or more of those granted asylum may be frauds!

The immigration lawyers, like those at the ACLU, are working overtime to make you think that large numbers of these asylum seekers are rotting away in American jails, but earlier this week, in one more story about Obama relaxing security screening for refugees and asylum seekers, comes this important bit of news!

Fox News:

Lawmakers, though, specifically cited a newly uncovered Immigration and Customs Enforcement document that showed thousands of asylum seekers were released while awaiting a decision. The document, obtained and reviewed by FoxNews.com, showed that in fiscal 2012, just 2,508 of the more than 24,000 asylum seekers were kept in custody.

[…..]

The ICE document showed that a total of 22,000 were released that year, though a few thousand were actually deported and a small percentage had their asylum requests granted. But thousands more were released on bond, released under supervision, or released under some other status. The document also indicates that officials may have lost track of some asylum seekers. Several hundred individuals are listed in a category that includes people who escaped.

Remember this number—20,000 and increasing each year are illegal aliens seeking asylum and are free to wander America and maybe show up for a court date.

For a laugh! Check out “The Samaritans” a mockumentary about NGOs in Africa

Scott Bartley (seated right), country director of the fictional Aid for Aid: “Many of you will ask who I banged to get this position?”
https://www.devex.com/en/blogs/49/blogs_entries/82828?source=MostPopularNews_5

Here is the story at NewEurope  (hat tip: Jewell).  Be sure to check it out and see the hilarious trailer!

Kenyan producer Hussein Kurji has created a mockumentary which humorously reveals real issues facing international NGOs. The show, titled The Samaritans, portrays Aid for Aid, a completely dysfunctional NGO.

The show, produced by Xeinium Productions, a Kenya-based production company co-owned by Kurji, is a comedic satire is meant to expose the sometimes dubious nature of large, international NGOs. It centers around the fictional Aid for Aid’s Kenya field office, which, as Kurji put it, “does nothing.”

[….]

Kurji explained how, after being asked to pitch a comedy show, he conceived The Samaritans as a mix of The Office and crazy NGO stories he had witnessed or heard from friends who worked with different organizations.

The show includes many of the critiques of big NGOs: the detached bosses who fly in from New York or London to try and micro manage operations in a country they know little to nothing about and lack of transparency or accountability about where and how funds are actually being used, among others.

Speaking of large NGOs out to save the world, I couldn’t help think about one of the largest in the US—The International Rescue Committee, one of nine major federal refugee contractors—and their glittery NYC media events  (at the Waldorf Astoria) and their superstar CEO David Miliband with his nearly half million dollars a year salary!

Maine: Asylum seekers being lured to Lewiston, Mayor says STOP!

More problems for Lewiston, Maine which became the Somali capital of New England more than ten years ago now (see Somali Migration to Maine: It’s the welfare magnet!)

Now we see that the asylum racket has Maine by the short hairs as one of the few states that gives welfare benefits to “asylum seekers.”   Most asylum seekers are illegal aliens or people who came to the US on a visa of some sort (tourist visa, student visa etc.) and claim that if they go home to their country they will be persecuted.  The federal government only provides welfare to those who successfully are granted asylum (they become ‘refugees’ with all of the taxpayer supported benefits).   We learned just a few days ago that 70% or more of successful asylum seekers may be frauds.

Mayor Robert MacDonald: “All these people are is they’re tourists.” We can’t afford them all!

Maine’s governor is attempting to take away the carrots, here, but immigrants are protesting.

In the meantime, Africans headed to Maine!

From WGME.com  (hat tip: ‘pungentpeppers’) Emphasis below is mine:

LEWISTON (WGME) — They’re called asylum seekers; people who entered the country on a visa, then declared they can’t go home. In Maine, asylum seekers are eligible for General Assistance funds. But Lewiston Mayor Robert Macdonald says they are gobbling up too much of his city’s budget. And he wants a local pastor to stop helping asylum seekers relocate to Lewiston.

Mayor Macdonald says “We can’t support them like that.  We don’t have that kind of money.” Mayor Macdonald says asylum seekers are costing the city too much money. He’s asked Rev. Jean-Pierre Tshamala, a former refugee of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, to stop encouraging asylum seekers to move here. He says it’s “really putting a financial strain on this community.”

Maine is one of the few states that help asylum seekers, by making them eligible for General Assistance. In the past six months alone, The City of Lewiston has helped more than 100 asylum seekers with expenses like food, rent, utilities and prescription medicines. The state does partly reimburse Maine cities and towns for the General Assistance funds they provide.

The federal government provides financial assistance to refugees who got approval in advance to enter the U.S. Asylum seekers are people who enter the U.S. with a visa, then say they’re unable to go home. So the feds give them nothing. Macdonald says “All these people are is they’re tourists. They’re tourists that have overstayed their welcome, I mean, overstayed their visa.”

Mayor Macdonald says Rev. Tshamala talked about bringing 60 asylum seeking families, now living in Portland hotels, to Lewiston. The mayor says if that happens, he’ll be forced to either cut services or raise property taxes. Mayor Macdonald says “We can’t do this to people. And I’ve told him, I’ve told the reverend this.”

Interesting that it’s a Congolese ‘refugee’ in Wyoming attempting to open that state to refugee resettlement.  And, just a reminder, last spring the State Department announced it will admit 50,000 Congolese to the US during the next couple of years.

We have an extensive archive on poor Lewiston, here.

Virginia: Government case collapses, Somali “pirate” seeks asylum in US

Court says Ali Mohamed Ali not a pirate, now seeking asylum in US!
http://thesomalian.com/us-dropping-case-against-man-accused-of-piracy/

Update February 19th:  Writers at NRO blast Holder for botching this case, here.

The case against a middle-aged English-speaking “pirate” ended and now the question becomes, can Ali Mohamed Ali get asylum in the US thus setting up the problematic scenario that the Guantanamo Bay prisoners have also posed for out legal system.  Try them in the US and if they aren’t convicted, then what?

We already know our asylum system is a mess—70% or more are frauds and cheats.

But there is more, did the Obama Justice Department screw-up?

From Politico (hat tip: Judy):

The failed prosecution of an alleged Somali pirate — and the fact that that failure could leave him living freely, and permanently, inside U.S. borders — is highlighting anew the risks of trying terror suspects in American courts.

Just a few weeks ago, Ali Mohamed Ali was facing the possibility of a mandatory life sentence in a 2008 shipjacking off the coast of Yemen — an incident much like the one dramatized in the film “Captain Phillips.” Now, the Somali native is in immigration detention in Virginia and seeking permanent asylum in the United States.

Ali, who was accused of piracy for acting as a translator and negotiator for a crew of pirates, was partially acquitted by a jury in November after a trial in Washington. Prosecutors initially vowed a retrial but decided last month to drop the rest of the case against him.

That’s just the kind of situation that opponents of U.S. criminal trials for Al Qaeda suspects caught abroad have long feared: The government falls short at trial — and the courts eventually order an accused terror figure freed to live legally among Americans.

“It’s a trial, not a play. You don’t know how it’s going to end,” said Cully Stimson, a former military prosecutor and defense official now at The Heritage Foundation. “Justice has all sorts of twists and turns. … It really has to be thought through at the highest level of government before we take action to bring someone here.”

One current federal terrorism prosecutor said the Ali case and the potential for his eventual release is another reason why foreign Al Qaeda suspects picked up overseas should not be brought to the United States but should instead be detained at Guantánamo or some other facility.

“It’s a significant risk … to say, ‘Oh well, we’ll just turn him over to the immigration service’” if a criminal case falls apart, said the prosecutor, who asked not to be named because he was not authorized to speak publicly. “You can’t count on the justice system working out just the way you want it to.”

Even some proponents of closing Guantánamo and relying on American civilian courts to prosecute alleged terrorists agree that the collapse of the Ali case highlights the potential downside of bringing suspected terrorists to the United States for trial.

Read the next section about other cases and the pitfalls.  Then back to Ali’s case near the end of the article.  This was a dumb move by someone in the Obama Justice Department!  Ali had a good claim that he was a hostage negotiator, an official in Somalia, and seems to have been an unlikely pirate!   No, not getting soft on Somalis!  Just something stinks about this whole government case!

The Ali case went off the rails for the government in the face of his claims that he was solely trying to resolve the hijacking of the M/V CEC Future — an event in which 13 crew members were held hostage for 71 days. While prosecutors contended Ali was “every bit as responsible” as those who carried weapons, the middle-aged English speaker, who had spent more than two decades in the United States, may not have seemed like an eye-patch-wearing or AK-47-toting type.  [What he was doing in the US for 20 years (refugee?) and not becoming a citizen is a question I would like answered.—ed]

By the time of his arrest in 2011, Ali was serving as education minister for an autonomous area in Somalia. Officials lured him back to the United States by inviting him to attend an education conference. He was arrested when he landed at Dulles International Airport.

My guess is that he will be granted asylum.

Question for the Left: ‘Does an increase in the number of leprosy cases in US add to multi-culti diversity?’

That is what writer, Jeannie DeAngelis, at American Thinker asked yesterday in a piece entitled, ‘Do Liberals Care if Third World Illnesses Infect Americans?’   (Hat tip: Judy).

Leprosy! Multicultural disease diversity coming to a town near you?

Apparently inspired by something Obama’s old pal Bill Ayers said about how we white Europeans are responsible for knocking off Native Americans about 500 years ago, DeAngelis asked that question.

My only quibble with DeAngelis’s otherwise thorough accounting of the rise in diseases third worlders are bringing to America is that she attributes the spread solely to illegal immigrants.

With a health issues category of 197 posts on the subject, I can assure readers that the diseases are not all coming from the ILLEGAL aliens, but many are getting through via LEGAL refugees (and other legal entrants) not properly screened,  or with no medical treatment follow-up.  In many cases refugees are even allowed into the US with TB and HIV/AIDS.

Blogger Jeannie DeAngelis at American Thinker (emphasis mine):

One of the favorite pastimes of liberalism is to try to inflict guilt on people of European descent for being part of a lineage that they believe, in the words of Bill Ayers at the Dartmouth Debate with Dinesh D’Souza, “murdered” the American Indians by way of contagious disease.

Calling it the “European Invasion,” liberals believe that prior to Christopher Columbus’ arrival American Indians were virtually disease-free.  Never mind that syphilis, which originated in the New World, was brought back to Europe, where spirochete bacterium was not present until after Columbus and his fellow discoverers returned in 1493.

The Columbian theory concludes that invaders from across the sea brought to the Americas the scourge of bubonic and pneumonic plague, chicken pox, cholera, diphtheria, influenza, measles, scarlet fever, smallpox, typhus, tuberculosis, and whooping cough.

Even though Indian tribes were slaughtering each other, lefties argue that their lack of immunity was solely responsible for American Indians dying en masse after exposure to infectious diseases, and are persuaded that 80-90 percent of the Native American population perished after Europeans landed in the New World.

Whether that scenario is truth or fiction, there remains a problem with the argument.  Liberals incessantly harp on the fate of unsuspecting American Indians being infected with European maladies, yet that outrage doesn’t jibe with their insistence that amnesty be granted to illegal aliens, some of whom carry diseases eradicated long ago from North America.

At the turn of the century, immigrants coming to America through Ellis Island were screened for disease, just as law-abiding persons immigrating via legal channels today require a medical exam as part of the process. Meanwhile, irresponsible politicians on the left, who portray Christopher Columbus as a marauding murderer, choose to ignore the influx of modern-day intruders carrying with them highly-contagious Third World diseases into the US.  [As I said, Legal immigrants/refugees are bringing in diseases too—ed]

[….]

The hypocrisy is stunning.

Leprosy increased from 900 cases in the US to 9,000 in 3 years!  Did you know that?

The Biblical scourge of leprosy, a “slow-growing bacillus…parasite with a tropism for peripheral nerves, skin, and mucous membranes…upper respiratory tract, anterior chamber of the eye, and the testes,” is also within our borders.  In 2002, there were only 900 total cases of leprosy in the US. In the next three years there were 9,000 , mostly in states with the largest immigrant populations.

[….]

Do those hostile to 15th century European exploration feel that although it was once rare in America, an increase of reported leprosy cases adds to the multicultural diversity liberals embrace with such affection?

[….]

So, once again the self-righteous left proves they are the champions of idiotic double standards.  They condemn European-descended whites for murdering Native Americans centuries ago, while arguing on behalf of illegals currently spreading a plethora of deadly Third World afflictions with the potential to infect and kill millions of Americans.

Yes, but you see in Leftists’ mean-spirited eyes we white people deserve it—it’s payback time!

There is more, DeAngelis tells readers about other diseases increasing in America and reminds you to think about those shopping cart handles the next time you grab one in ethnically diverse neighborhoods.

I have a question for Wyoming!  How are your health departments in Campbell County (Gillette) and Natrona County (Casper)?  Are they ready for the diversity of health issues coming their way?
