Immigration slows as the economy slows and laws are enforced

The Census Bureau reports a dramatic slowdown in the number of immigrants coming to the United States last year, says an AP article:

The nation added about a half million immigrants in 2007, down from more than 1.8 million the year before, according to estimates being released Tuesday by the Census Bureau.

It goes on to say that the U.S. has added an average of about a million immigrants a year since 1990, legal and illegal. It doesn’t say if the number of immigrants tracked with the strength of the economy during those years. I don’t recall hearing of such an effect, just that the number has been rising in recent years. The drop is far more dramatic than the slowdown in the economy, which wasn’t much in 2007. So I conclude that it was indeed the enforcement of immigration laws that has caused most of the drop.

I’ll bet it was also the strong message sent with the defeat of the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Bill in mid-2007, when grassroots Americans overcame the efforts of elitists of both parties to give amnesty to illegal aliens and otherwise encourage more immigration.

But no matter how slow the economy, you can be sure that the refugee agencies and their friends in Congress will keep the refugees coming.

Fear growing: Russia to be a Muslim nation in our lifetimes

Right on the heels of the post I just wrote about the graying of Europe comes this story about Russia.

The Muslim population could outnumber ethnic Russians within 30 years.

Then here, uttered by some brave immigration activist in Russia is the truth that the worshipers of multiculturalism refuse to see:

Many ethnic Russians are terrified at the prospect of becoming a minority in their own country.

Alexander Belov, from the Movement Against Illegal Immigration, said: “History is a fight between races and religions.

“It’s the law of nature … people are used to being with people like themselves, speaking the language their mothers taught them.”

Read it all, it is fascinating (and frightening).  Imagine Russia a Muslim-dominated nation.

Graying Europe being taken over by Muslim immigrants

It is the hottest issue in Europe, and one we have mentioned on many occasions, but here now is an article I was surprised to see in a Seattle, WA newspaper.   From the Seattle Times

Some experts have gloomily surmised that it won’t be long before Europe is transformed, a place devoid of ethnic Greeks and Italians but teeming with Muslim immigrants who will forever alter traditional European national cultures.

[…..]

“Unless it corrects course within the next five to 10 years, Europe by the end of this century will be a continent after the neutron bomb: the grand buildings will still be standing but the people who built them will be gone,” Canadian conservative Mark Steyn wrote in his best-selling book “America Alone.”

If you want to enjoy beer and bratwurst at Octoberfest in Germany, go now.  If you want to watch Irish dancing with the girls kicking up their legs in short skirts, go now.  If you want to see some of the most beautiful art and sculpture depicting the naked human body in France and Italy, don’t put it off.

Perhaps what is most interesting to me in these reports about Europe is how Americans and the American press can report on the death of Europe from uncontrolled immigration and not see the same thing down the road right here in the US.

By the way, since we are on the subject of Seattle, it’s a good time to remind readers of the immigrant Muslim gangs growing in that city.  This post was one of our most visited in recent weeks.

Asylees: having trouble in the UK? Canada will take you!

We’ve been hearing lots of stories out of Great Britain and the rest of Europe too about immigration rules tightening.    Not to fear, here is a website called “Asylum Destitution Support Network” that instructs, among other things, on how to get into Canada.

If you are in the process of seeking asylum or been refused asylum in the UK, you will not be able to apply for asylum in another member country of the European Union.

However, if your asylum claim has been refused and the Home Office do not intend to remove you by force or cannot obtain travel documents to facilitate your removal, continuing to live in the UK with out the right to work or access to the normal benefits UK citizens are entitled to, life for you in the UK will be very harsh.

Likewise you may have made a claim years ago but Home Office has failed to make a final decision.

You may wish to find another country that will accept you as an economic migrant or refugee.

Economic migrants, by the way, are people literally flowing by the millions out of their home countries trying to find work (or a welfare security net).   This website instructs readers on all the programs available to them in Canada.

Refugee/Economic Admission Programmes

Many countries have ‘Refugee’ or ‘Economic’ programmes, which allow refugees or people seeking work to apply for entry into their country from another country, which is not the country of residence of the applicant.

Notably Canada, who have various schemes to facilitate entry for refugees and economic migrants.

For all the details, read on.

Lots of fraud among Iraqi refugee applications

The Associated Press reports:

AMMAN, Jordan: The Australian Embassy in Jordan says it and other Western nations are tightening their Iraqi refugee resettlement policy to eliminate fraud.

Embassy spokeswoman Tania Wilson says Australia rejects about 1,000 out of the 4,500 Iraqi resettlement applications submitted in Jordan and Syria every year due to fraud. The two countries host the bulk of Iraq’s 2 million refugees.

Most fraud involves fabricated documents or applications from Iraqis with illegitimate status.

Wilson said Sunday that several Western nations discussed several measures to combat fraud in a closed-door meeting in Jordan. She declined to elaborate on the nature of the measures.
