(Muslim) asylum-seeking hunger strikers: We want the right to stay in Vienna…

….and get a free education and be able to move around where ever we want.  Oh, and no deportation for those who failed to qualify as refugees in Austria.

This story is over ten-days-old and has been kicking around in my posting queue for over a week and just now I couldn’t find a follow-up—did they starve to death or did the Austrian government cave in?  Although, not exactly breaking news now,  it’s an interesting story when coupled with another report from the excellent international blog–-Gates of Vienna—on Vienna.

Here is the hunger strike story from Deutsche Welle (emphasis mine):

Political refugees in Vienna are starving themselves to protest against poor living conditions. The Austrian government wants the protest to end as soon as possible – but it seems there’s no end in sight.

In the dark, neo-gothic Votive Church near Vienna’s city center, weak winter sunlight filters through stained glass windows and illuminates the mattresses and blankets jammed into a corner. More than a dozen young men lie in the jumble of bedding.

“We got families,” says one of the protesters. “We got situations that people just don’t understand. We gotta make a change. We gotta make people understand.”

The protesters say they will starve themselves to death unless the Austrian government changes its refugee policy. They marched on the church from a refugee center 20 kilometers outside of Vienna. They say conditions there are overcrowded, that they receive only 150 euros a month ($198) on which to live and that many of them will spend years in these cramped quarters, sometimes with young families. Muhamed Numan, a 24-year-old from Pakistan, defines the group’s goals.

The two tall spires of the chalk-colored Votive Church dominate the cityscape of Vienna. (Photo: Votava / dpa) Vienna’s Votive Church has guards at the doors to protect refugees.

“The first is asylum,” he says. “The second is free education. The third is freedom of movement.”

They also want to stop the deportation of those who have been refused refugee status, as well as to erase refugee fingerprint records. The Austrian government says it is not prepared to meet those demands.

Austrians: no patience for those who bite the hand that feeds them!

“These demands, like the right to stay for everyone, like the erasing of finger-prints … lack any legal basis and don’t come anywhere near meeting EU regulations,” said Austrian interior minister Johanna Mikl-Leitner.

Austrian Freedom Party MP Norbert Hofer also believes that the asylum seekers’ message will not be well received in Austria.

“People have no time for someone who comes to Austria seeking protection and then starts demonstrating,” Hofer said. “In Austria we have done a lot. Between 2005 and 2010 alone we spent a billion euros on asylum provision.”

But, of course Mr. Hofer, they don’t care how much you’ve done in the past, the point is to bring Austria and all of Europe to its knees economically and culturally.

And, look who is here!  The Catholic Church supporting the Muslim ‘asylum seekers.’   What else is new!

The protesters are backed by aid agencies and NGOs, which have been criticizing the government’s asylum policies for years. They claim that accommodation for refugees is overcrowded and that the burden of care falls mainly on charities like the Catholic aid agency Caritas.  [I say let the Catholic Church use its vast resources for its chosen “charity.”   It is not the role of government to do so!—ed]

Think about it!  Over 300 years ago, at the Gates of Vienna, Christians turned back the Muslim armies about to over-run Vienna and march through the gates of Europe, and it’s today’s Catholic Church helping Muslims conquer Christendom now.

Refugee camp squatters were earlier evicted near Vienna

There is more here about a camp previously disrupted by the Austrian government.  Readers, we are seeing these camps all over Europe (here in Germany and here in Holland).   See also Greece, here.  These are not spontaneous and disconnected events, they mean to bring down Europe in our lifetimes.  The Islamists know history!

Demographic change has already come to Vienna!

Now, please visit “Babul on the Danube” at Gates of Vienna (a blog you should visit daily*):

Barely any students with German as mother tongue in Vienna

The nationwide statistics conceals the dramatic developments in Vienna, because German is hardly spoken in the primary schools of the federal capital. The district in Vienna where this is most blatantly visible is Margareten, where the proportion of immigrant children has risen to 89 % — that is, 924 out of 1038 children have as their mother tongue something other than German.

Temporary Protected Status protects criminals from deportation

But will Temporary Protected Status be rendered moot if Obama-Rubio-Ryan get their way?  The answer is Yes!  Everyone will be able to stay! (but they can now anyway!)

Just two days ago I told you that the push was on to give Temporary Protected Status to Malians in the US.  Most recently we granted TPS to Syrians.   Haitians, as we reported here, aren’t signing up in large numbers because they see the Obama-Rubio-Ryan Amnesty coming (more on that below).   And, those Guatemalans and their Leftwing open borders advocates are trying to get the designation as well (although they seem to have slacked off, waiting for amnesty perhaps?).  “Temporary” refugees, can get drivers licenses and jobs and every couple of years their “temporary” status is renewed.

The Center for Immigration Studies tells us here how hard it is to get rid of even the criminals who have TPS status.

Roberto Galo has been in the US since the 1990’s!

Last week ICE arrested Roberto Galo, the unlicensed Honduran who killed a young man named Drew Rosenberg in a traffic crash in November 2010, and is detaining him without bond. Galo’s arrest is appropriate but, incredibly, despite the fact that Galo repeatedly violated California driving laws and killed someone, ICE had to make an exception to its policies in order to take him into custody and seek his removal.

Galo is an illegal immigrant who has been living here legally since the late 1990s under a grant of Temporary Protected Status (TPS). Beneficiaries of TPS may apply for driver’s licenses; but Galo could not get one because he failed the driving test three times. Under immigration law, Galo no longer qualifies for TPS after having been convicted of two misdemeanors (vehicular manslaughter and unlicensed driving) stemming from his responsibility for the crash that took Drew Rosenberg’s life.

But under current policies, offenders like Galo are not supposed to be put on the path to removal. USCIS, which administers the TPS program, has directed its officers to try to reclassify some misdemeanors as “infractions” in order to allow these offenders to stay.

The Obama-Rubio-Ryan Amnesty of 2013

Appropriately, Mark Krikorian the Director of the Center for Immigration Studies, with USCIS cases like Galo’s in mind, asks Rep. Paul Ryan and Senator Marco Rubio, so are you planning to trust Obama to keep his end of the bargain as you pander to the ‘Hispanic’ voter.

Krikorian:

Sen. Marco Rubio has effectively endorsed President Obama’s approach to immigration, and that endorsement was in turn endorsed by Rep. Paul Ryan. Or, as Julia Preston put it in the New York Times yesterday, “Strikingly, Mr. Rubio’s principles did not sound that different from proposals for an immigration overhaul by Mr. Obama, Democratic leaders and a handful of other Republicans.”

So, in considering what can now accurately be referred to as the Obama-Rubio-Ryan amnesty plan of 2013, there’s one central question that Rubio and Ryan need to be asked: Do they trust President Obama to enforce the immigration laws in the future, after today’s illegals have been legalized?

If they answer “yes”, then they need to explain why they think he’d suddenly become committed to enforcement after four years of downgrading immigration law enforcement, and more generally acting as though the U.S. Code were a body of suggestions rather than laws.

[…..]

This isn’t some nit I’m picking — it’s central to the whole concept of “comprehensive immigration reform”. If you trust Obama to do the right thing, then, by all means, endorse his plan for amnesty, as Rubio and Ryan have done. But if you don’t trust him to keep his word, if you think all his statements come with an expiration date, then there’s no honest way you can back his approach.

For more on what Rubio’s (and no doubt Grover Norquist’s too!) “comprehensive” plan would do, visit VDARE and see what “Washington Watcher” says about it.  Here is one snippet:

In reality, because, as I mentioned earlier, there is no way to find out when an illegal alien first came to this country, an amnesty will certainly lead to more illegals crossing the border to take advantage of the new program.

It is safe to say that Rubio’s proposal appears to be virtually indistinguishable from what the Democrats want—except the delay in granting citizenship to the amnestied illegals.

Usually, Republican amnesty proposals at least pretend that they are focused even more on enforcement than legalization—but Rubio has pretty much given up even that pretense.

My theory: Rubio is willing to give the Democrats whatever they want—so long as the illegals don’t get (immediate) citizenship.

Back to TPS

I don’t see any other conclusion, if Obama-Rubio-Ryan get their way, everyone gets to stay and Temporary Protected Status is permanent (no more fig leaf), but for certain classes of illegal immigants it already is—Salvadorans, Somalis, Haitians etc.

Liberians had TPS for years and note that they are off the list, but no one deported them!

To be truly “comprehensive,” Rubio’s bill should include a repeal of TPS.  And, the diversity visa lottery too!  How about a moratorium on refugee resettlement as well until that 1980 Kennedy-Biden-Carter law has been back to Congress for reauthorization (something that has never happened).

New Somali President to US Somalis: Come back to Africa and help rebuild “your country”

This is the most exciting news I’ve seen in a long time.  The New Somali President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, visited Minneapolis on Friday with Omar Jamal in tow (more on him later) and asked Somalis to return to Africa!

Readers, this means that the pipeline of thousands of Somalis flowing from Africa to the US every year can now be stopped!  And, reversed!  Right!

From AP at the Edmonton Journal (emphasis mine):

MINNEAPOLIS – A day after the U.S. officially recognized Somalia’s government for the first time in two decades, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud called on Somalis living in Minnesota to help rebuild their war-torn homeland.

Mohamud spoke to about 4,000 people late Friday night at the Minneapolis Convention Center. Although most of his speech was in Somali, he said in English that it was, “the beginning of a new foundation.”  [Who knows what he really said because it was all translated for the gullible press by Omar Jamal—ed]

Omar Jamal, first secretary of the Somali Mission to the United Nations, said the president thanked the crowd in Somali and asked that they help rebuild the country with an emphasis on security, the economy and judicial system — either by returning to Somalia or from their homes in Minnesota. Minnesota is home to the largest Somali population in the U.S.   [that ‘from their homes part’ means sending money which became a problem when US banks were told by the feds to stop the practice in the wake of Minneapolis Somali ‘go to hell infidels’ trial—ed]

Jamal had travelled with Mohamud to Washington, D.C., where Secretary of State Hilary Clinton joined the Somali president on Thursday to announce the change in diplomatic relations. The U.S. recognition will help Somalia receive greater aid from the U.S. and international agencies.

After Friday’s speech, Ilhan Omar said he walked away with the feeling that there was a plan in place to rebuild her homeland.

“I felt like it was the first time in 20 years that we can see a light at the end of the tunnel,” said Omar, 30.

Amira Adawe, 34, added that she hopes the U.S. government’s recognition of Somalia will open the door to widespread international support. The president’s visit solidified her desire to return there and do what she can.

“It’s my country,” Adawe said. “I can’t wait to go back home and help.”  [We have already spent so much money on Somalis, maybe Rep. Ellison could introduce a bill to fund their airfare home!  It would probably prove more cost-saving than to pay for their education, housing, food stamps etc.—ed]

Think about it, we paid for over 100,000 Somalis to come to the US and resettle and paid for their social services, education, etc.; we paid dearly (remember “Black Hawk Down”) in blood; we paid for the military training that has for now pushed Al-Shabaab/Al-Qaeda out of Mogadishu; and yet some of those youths we raised at taxpayer expense had earlier left the comfort of their homes in Minnesota to join the jihadists and then we paid for the terror trials.  Is refugee resettlement a great program or what!

The AP continued:

On Thursday, Clinton said times have changed in Somalia and cited the militant group al-Shabab’s retreat from every major Somali city. The U.S. provided $780 million to African forces to help that effort.

Authorities say more than 20 young Somali men have left Minnesota since 2007 to join al-Shabab, a U.S.-designated terrorist group linked to al-Qaida. A Minneapolis man was convicted in October of helping funnel young men from Minnesota to Somalia to join the group.  [Just a little blight on an otherwise lovely story of American hospitality—ed]

The Minneapolis Star Tribune has another article with some more detail—like Rep. Keith Ellison’s role—so please visit the Tribune.

A few words on Omar Jamal

Only in America can a man arrested on immigration fraud charges (he was convicted but never jailed or deported) and in the US illegally rise to the level of working at the UN and meeting with Hillary (possibly Obama too, but it isn’t mentioned in these articles whether he got as far as the White House).

I first heard about Jamal in 2007 who I’ve affectionately dubbed the “Somali Jesse Jackson” because of his tendency to pop-up and be a mouthpiece for any Somali with a criminal problem just about anywhere in the US.  In 2007, when a Somali man was arrested for a “hallway” rape in a St. Paul apartment building, even though the assault was captured on a surveillance camera, Jamal was right there to proclaim the man’s innocence.

He popped up in the Denver Cyanide death story, and he was all over the Somali missing  Jihadist youths story (even quoted in the story when the FBI brought home the body parts of America’s first Somali suicide bomber for a decent burial).  He weighed in on the Christmas tree bomber story to defend the Somali kid.  And, when one of those Somali pirates came to NYC for trial—who was there?  You guessed it—Omar Jamal.  Then he has that gig at the UN.

Omar Jamal’s name comes up in 65 previous posts here at RRW since that 2007 hallway rape story.

For new readers we have resettled more than 100,000 Somali refugees to cities large and small in the US over the last 25 years.  See one of the most widely read posts here at RRW.  Large numbers went to Minneapolis.  In three years since 9/11 ( Bush years 2004, 2005, 2006) the number of Somalis arriving topped 10,000 per year.  Those refugees then began bringing in the family (chain migration!) until 2008 when shock of shocks! the State Department discovered that as many as 30,000 Somalis had lied about their kinship and weren’t related at all.  The State Department then closed the “family reunification” program for Somalis.  It has recently been re-opened for new and legit family members, but they have no intention of finding and deporting the liars.  Jamal isn’t the only illegal Somali in the US.

Oh no! Call for Temporary Protected Status for Malians

I was only kidding the other day (only 4 days ago!) when I asked how long it would be before the push would begin for refugees from Mali.  I didn’t expect it to happen this fast—a call for temporary “refugee” status for any Malians in the US already whether here legally or illegally.

Got a hurricane, an earthquake or Al-Qaeda and the clamor begins, and once granted “temporary” refugee status they never go home!  Just ask the Salvadorans or the Liberians or the Somalis or the Haitians.  And, no matter what administration is running Washington the temporary refuge becomes permanent.

Here is the “call to action” from the United African Organization (LOL! from Africa, no from Illinois!):

Dear concerned global citizens, get involved and support TEMPORARY PROTECTED STATUS for Mali! Over the last ten months, the situation in northern Mali has escalated, with the resignation of the Prime Minister and the inability of the government to respond appropriately to the destructive armed insurgency. Over 350,000 people have been displaced and many are unable to meet their basic needs as they struggle to recover from forced evacuations as well as the remnants of a severe drought earlier in 2012. Given the current situation, deporting hundreds of Malians from the United States would only exacerbate this volatile climate and needlessly place people perilous in situations.

Temporary protected status (TPS) designation for Mali would protect those Malians in the US that need stability until the violence and conflict in their home country subside. TPS would allow those who are eligible to live, work, and study in the United States until it is safe for them to return home. In addition, TPS would enable Malians to provide support and aid to their families and communities, offering relief to those affected.

You can make a difference by calling the Secretary of DHS, Janet Napolitano, at 202-282-8000 or find your local representative by clicking here: find your local representative. You can also send the White House a letter here.

They are so predictable!

Norquist goes to Kansas, dresses down Secretary of State Kobach on immigration

Editors note:  This post is cross-posted from my other blog Potomac Tea Party Report.  Although Norquist is opposing Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s efforts largely related to illegal immigration, it raises questions related to refugee resettlement as well.   Kansas is a prime destination target for refugee labor (mostly needed by meatpackers), so one wonders how they could be short of low-wage workers in Kansas. One would think that Kobach’s proposed bill would not in any way affect the legal immigrants other than to keep their wages up.  So, I’ll bet that the big money behind Norquist’s visit to the state is coming from the meatpacking giants (more available laborers=lower wages).

And, one more thing!    I have pages and pages of posts here on immigrant problems in Kansas. One of my favorites is the demand by Muslims in Garden City, KS (a meatpacking town) for their own publicly funded Muslim cemetery (see no assimilation even in death!)

Potomac Tea Party Report:

I know I am putting energy elsewhere these days [focusing more on refugees], but some things I can’t let go!  This is one.  I have a massive archive now on Grover Norquist and want to be sure it’s up-to-date.

It seems that Norquist was recently invited to Kansas to gin up the industry base (those looking for plentiful cheap labor) to oppose Secretary of State Kris Kobach’s efforts to get an Arizona-like law in place in Kansas.  Some of you may have met Kobach in Frederick, MD in May 2011, here.

Before I tell you more about Norquist’s trip to Kansas, please see just a few of our previous posts on Norquist, friend of Islamists.  See what Rep. Frank Wolf said about him on the House floor in 2011, here.   See what Pamela Geller (in Maryland last week, btw) said about him here.  From that 2010 post:

Pamela Geller (Atlas Shrugs) has written an incredible expose today at American Thinker about Grover Norquist, Americans for Tax Reform, charging that he has for more than a decade helped Islamic supremacists get positions of power in Washington.   She goes on to warn Tea Party activists that he is working to keep the Tea Party movement silent on issues involving national security and the war on terror.

And, who can forget that Norquist told Soros’ “Think Progress” that Shariah law was compatible with the US Constitution here in 2011.

For ambitious readers, here is our complete Grover Norquist archive.

Now back to Kansas.

From America’s Voice*, an open borders website, funded by George Soros, that has a new hero—Norquist!  (Emphasis below is mine)

Poor Kris Kobach.  It’s one thing to be maligned by people you hate and believe should self-deport, but it’s another thing to be called out by those who are supposed to be your friends.

Last week we wrote about how Kobach, the architect of state anti-immigrant laws like Arizona’s SB 1070 and Alabama’s HB 56, is determined to bring a similarly destructive law to Kansas.  The Kansas Business Coalition for Immigration Reform—which includes groups like the Kansas Chamber, Kansas Livestock Association, Kansas Farm Bureau, and restaurant, construction, and agriculture groups—was alarmed at what Kobach’s legislation could mean for the economic climate in the state, and sponsored anti-tax crusader Grover Norquist to come to the state and give Kobach a dressing-down.

Read it all!

I can only guess that now that Norquist’s tax fighting image has been so tarnished by pledge defectors that he is moving on to other areas (immigration!) where he might wield power.   I believe Norquist’s open borders goal isn’t to help the farmer milking cows and wanting cheap labor, it’s about getting his Muslim friends into the US.  Kobach stands in his way.
