For long-time readers of RRW this should not be a surprise. Our normal refugee resettlement program allows refugees screened abroad with both TB and HIV/AIDS to enter the country, why would we expect that somehow the unscreened are all free of infectious diseases. (Hey, sure is good that we have Obamacare to take care of them all!)
See our post in March about how the foreign-born represent most of US TB cases, here.
Here is the latest disturbing news from Todd Starnes at Fox News (Hat tip: Joanne):
Are the thousands of illegal immigrant kids housed in detention facilities happy and well fed — or are they living in disease-infested compounds shrouded in secrecy?
Well, it depends on who you ask.
The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) seems to think the children coming across the southern border are remarkably healthy. It’s a sentiment shared by BCFS — the Texas-based agency formerly known as Baptist Child & Family Services contracted to run camps at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio and Fort Sill in Oklahoma.
[….]
However, at least a half dozen anonymous sources, including nurses and health care providers who worked at Lackland, allege that the government is covering up what they believe to be a very serious health threat.
Several of my sources tell me that tuberculosis has become a dangerous issue at both the border and the camps.
Read the whole thing yourself (if you can stand it!). I’m weary of the invasion news! Tomorrow we need to return to some other refugee news items that have fallen by the wayside in the last week!
See all of our previous posts on ‘unaccompanied minors’ by clicking here (if you aren’t sick of it!).
And, don’t miss our ‘health issues’category with over 200 posts on the health problems of refugees.
She began funding legal work for the “unaccompanied minors” nine years ago!
Last night I was looking around to see if all of the federal refugee resettlement contractors were in on the lobbying campaign to Congress to get more money (your money) for their work with the ‘unaccompanied alien teens’ surging our border, and came uponthis story at the US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants(USCRI) website.
Digressing for a minute to explain to new readers, these nine federal refugee contractors are not simply privately-funded humanitarian do-gooder ‘non-profits.’
They are community organizers who advocate for open borders (they lobbied for S.744, the Senate ‘comprehensive immigration reform bill’) just as La Raza does, which they have a right to do, if they stay within legal requirements of their federal grants.
However, the part that pushes me over the edge, and it should you as well, is that these “charities” are almost completely funded by us through our tax dollars. One of them is as much as 99% funded by taxpayer dollars, therefore what they do is very much our business!
[See USCRI’s Form 990 for 2012, their total income was $35.7 million and you gave them $35.4 million—99% of their income is your money—only $246,576 came from private donations!]
As supposedly private non-profits, they are not open to the scrutiny of protections such as the Freedom of Information Act or even financial audits of what they and their 350 subcontractors do with their share of your tax dollars.
Here is a list of quasi-government agencies pretending to be non-profit charities that we would like to see become household names.
USCRI held a conference earlier this year in Washington, DC about the “children” (the unaccompanied alien minors) surging the border and in attendance were the First Ladies of Honduras, Guatemala and Mexico. See USCRI’s write-up here.
But this is what jumped out at me—Angelina Jolie got USCRI’s ‘unaccompanied alien minors’ program going 9 years ago, but you get to pay for it now!
Every year thousands of children, alone, vulnerable, and fleeing difficult and dangerous circumstances, turn up on U.S. borders. The migrant children most often are from Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, and Mexico.
USCRI’s program was established in 2005 with a grant from actress Angelina Jolie to protect the rights of immigrant children. The national program has grown to provide human trafficking services, migration prevention programs, and social work assistance. The Center has served more than 5,000 children in the U.S., and trained thousands of attorneys across the United States to represent unaccompanied migrant children in removal proceedings.
UN Special Envoy Angelina Jolie has every right to fund whatever she wishes with her private money, but since USCRI is effectively a government agency (99% taxpayer-funded) we can be critical of what we believe is a treasonous program doing potentially greater harm to America than anything ‘Hanoi Jane’ did in 1972.

Do Federal Contractors Plan to Bring Illegals Surging the Border to Tennessee?
Before Tennessee Sens. Bob Corker and Lamar Alexander voted YES on amnesty they were advised by border law enforcement that a YES on amnesty would likely result in a border surge.
Sen. Corker is the ranking member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee that has jurisdiction over the U.S. refugee resettlement program. Illegal minors crossing the border are treated as conditional refugees pending a deportation hearing where they may or may not show up.
Sen. Alexander is on the Senate Appropriations Sub-committee that approved $1.94 billion to help Obama with his border surge problem; an increase of over a billion dollars from last year. This money will be diverted from other social service programs. Federal refugee resettlement contractors are now complaining that they will be losing public money they use to support their refugee resettlement businesses. They are advocating that more public money be appropriated for their use.
Federal refugee resettlement contractor Catholic Charities that runs the program in TN does not currently resettle “unaccompanied alien children” (UAC). These are the illegals currently surging the border. 90,000 UACs are expected this year with estimates up to 150,000 in 2015.
On July 10th, resettlement agencies that do not currently resettle UACs, will be on a conference call with the Federal Office of Refugee Resettlement.
Why? Historically in Tennessee, refugee resettlement agencies like Catholic Charities have not taken UACs. But, more federal refugee contractors are needed to handle the surge. So the federal government is trying to find places to set up “emergency shelters” where the UACs can be housed.
Catholic Charities of TN, has said they plan to expand the federal refugee resettlement program in Tennessee. Since taking over the program they have increased the number of people being brought to Tennessee by 66%. They are paid for each person they bring to Tennessee.
Then they enroll their clients into TennCare which the citizens of Tennessee subsidize.
The state of Tennessee has absolutely no say about whether or how many people the federal refugee contractors bring. If Catholic Charities decides to say YES and open emergency shelters in Tennessee, it will be one more example of the federal government trying to force the State to fix a problem created by federal policies.
California Democrat Sen. Diane Feinstein said, “…my staff learned that many of the children were smuggled across the border after hearing radio ads promising they would not be deported…[and that], religious organizations are spreading the same message.” Also, border agents have recovered “cheat sheets”of prepared answers that will help avert deportation. Evidence of communicable diseases and/or affiliation with gangs like MS-13 do not bar minors from U.S. entry.
Residents of Lawrenceville, VA protested loudly enough against the opening of a shelter in their community, so the federal government decided to go elsewhere. Democrat leaders in Baltimore, MD also rejected plans for an emergency shelter.
Will that “elsewhere” be in Tennessee communities? Make your voice heard:
Tennesseans need to contact pro-amnesty Senators Corker and Alexander and your House representative and tell them the following:
• Secure the border before any other action is taken
• No emergency shelters for UACs to be opened in TN
• All refugee resettlement to be halted until the surge at the border is resolved
• No to amnesty

About that poster on Catholic Charities door: there doesn’t seem to be any mention of child welfare on their website. For the many new readers arriving here, remember Catholic Charities and the federal government make all the decisions regarding which refugees and how many are sent to Tennessee!
By the way, Tennessee has been labeled a “pocket of resistance”by the Office of Refugee Resettlement and its contractors.
See all of our coverage of the ‘unaccompanied minors’ invasion of America by clicking here. There are dozens of posts spanning several years in the archive.
VDARE posted a call to action last night for you to contact your state refugee coordinator this week and ask: are the unaccompanied alien minors(UACs) coming to your state?
And, by the way, the federal refugeecontractors have action alerts outthis week to their open borders activists to call Congress for more money for them (the children and the contractor)!
Hard information on the phony refugee (“The children!”) surge at the Southwest border is hard to come by. This is true even if you’re a congressman—when Jim Bidenstine (R- OK) showed up at a holding camp in his home state he was stonewalled.
[….]
Between the ballot boxes (months away) and “the streets” (rare to nonexistent in American history) there’s citizen pressure on our despotic elites and their kept bureaucrats.
This is where VDARE.com readers come in. Are swarms of “The children!” coming to your state?
If they are, your state’s refugee coordinator will probably be among the first to know.So phone “your” coordinator – contact information is below—and, politely, ask basic questions such as Where? When? How Many? and What’s it going to cost state and local taxpayers?
[….]
The week starting Monday, July 7 is the time to phone, as VDARE.com has learned that at least some of the coordinators will be on a conference call with the federal Office of Refugee Resettlement during the week. It will help if the coordinators are made to understand that many of their fellow citizens are very concerned.
Read it all for more information and to follow the links!
Here and below is a complete list of Refugee resettlement employees in your state, if you can’t get the coordinator, try one of the others especially see the contact information for “regional reps.” Even those “health coordinators” are going to be informed in light of the health issues the “children” will be bringing to the state.
